Donor IUI?

MinnieMooMoo · 09/10/2013 15:12

Hello! Just looking for a group/quiche to join but not really sure where I fit it.

I'm intending to go it alone and have Donor Insemination by IUI starting in January providing my investigations all come back clear.

Any one else in the same boat, or has done it alone in the past?

shoes what a bummer!!! I think you should get on the plane. Try holding a wee for 4 hours or use FMU and test again but still go. Are you taking an ovulation trigger? How long are you going for?

INeedNewShoes · 28/02/2016 20:19

Thanks for the moral support Kwick

No trigger - completely unmedicated.

I've got a hotel booked for tomorrow night. My return flight isn't booked until Wednesday to give me the leeway to stay another night if necessary (and I've worked out that if you hold your nerve you can book hotel rooms cheaply on the day as the prices go down dramatically so I'm confident I'll be able to book a hotel room for Tuesday night if necessary).

My guess is that I'll get my positive OPK either at midnight (I'm so determined to hold my wee!) or first thing in the morning then I can happily get on my flight. I'll once again be facing the decision of whether to do IUI a bit too early or a bit too late.

booboo16 · 28/02/2016 20:22

Congratulations TD! Oh, how exciting! You must be over the moon Smile

Thank you Kwick & TD Flowers I will ask the nurse about the OPKS & the clearblue ovulation detector! We have our appointment for our booking scan, but that date may change depending on when I ovulate this month. I usually ovulate cd 12/13, but I ovulated cd 15 last month. I am currently on cd3, and they have taken it that I will ovulate cd 14 this month. If I ovulate earlier I will have to ring them & get an earlier appointment for the booking scan. Complicated! At least we are nearly there! Did they say anything to you about the risk of twins?

Kwick709 · 28/02/2016 20:23

wow... completely unmedicated! I did not even know such a thing existed! Please try not to get too stressed - that might delay things more. Lots of calling mantras and deep breathing. I will be thinking of you and sending you lots of positive thoughts.

booboo16 · 28/02/2016 20:26

INNS Oh gosh! Are you travelling abroad for IUI? Fx you know more soon! There is nothing worse than being in limbo land!

INeedNewShoes · 28/02/2016 20:45

Yep, to Copenhagen, for lots of reasons. I've got a list of justifications for my clinic choice somewhere. When I'm at a loose end in the airport tomorrow I'll dig it out and post it here.

Right, I will keep calm. I'll get on my flight in the morning and whatever will be will be.

Thank you IUI support group!

booboo16 · 28/02/2016 20:51

Best of luck INNS! Wishing you all the best Flowers. I usually don't ovualate 12 hours after a positive OPK, but I know everyone is different. I hope everything works out for you & you will be in my thoughts tomorrow x

booboo16 · 28/02/2016 20:52

**I usually ovulate 12 hours after a positive OPK, nothing more or nothing less.

taydex · 28/02/2016 22:56

Shoes I agree, get on that flight. Even if you've not had the surge yet. You have nothing to lose. The flight and hotel are paid for. Oh, and Copenhagen is a lovely place to spend some time. Try and relax and look after you. Best of luck. I have my fingers, toes and eyes crossed for you. I look like a d*ck but who cares Grin

CautionHormone · 28/02/2016 23:04

Good luck with your IUI NewShoes. I'm sure everything will be fine - positive thinking!

booboo welcome to the thread :)

Taydex - I'm so glad you're at your parents :) and I'm glad you've told them - of course they'd be over the moon! X

CautionHormone · 28/02/2016 23:05

Ps, going to the doctors tomorrow about my periods... Hopefully that'll enlighten me as to why they're so shockingly irregular!

INeedNewShoes · 29/02/2016 07:17

I hope you have a useful dr appointment Caution

If anyone sees my LH hanging around, I'd be much obliged if you could put it on a flight to Copenhagen. I'm just about to take off and it hasn't made an appearance.

taydex · 29/02/2016 08:58

Good luck Shoes. I'll keep my eyes peeled. It's probably down the back of the sofa... x

Kwick709 · 29/02/2016 09:31

Best of luck shoes hope the surge makes an appearance!

caution hope Dr appointment goes well.

I just had my scan - 5 follicles, one at 14mm :) I am going to carry on with my "I am" statements as well as drinking copious amounts of milk Grin... Trying to forget that have to travel on 9th so not long for everything to happen...

taydex · 29/02/2016 12:43

Kwik - that's great news! Keep up whatever you are doing, looks like it's working a treat. Just a note on the milk front, I discovered at the weekend that Prezzo do a delicious white hot chocolate. I'm not normally a hot chocolate fan but this one you get a latte glass with white chocolate buttons in the bottom and a jug of steaming milk. Pour the milk in and hey presto, yumminess in a glass (licks milk moustache off) AND more of that milk we're all supposed to be drinking loads of. Mmmm...

CautionHormone · 29/02/2016 14:39

NewShoes I so hope you get your LH surge whilst you're in Copenhagen... I'll keep my fingers crossed and my eyes peeled Wink.

kwick I'm so pleased your follicles are coming on nicely! Definitely keep up with your "I am" mantra. It seems like it's working :)

Thank you for your well wishes for the doctors. She seems concerned because I'm young, and because I haven't had a proper one since September. She's sending me for a scan - I have to ring up Thursday to book it. She's looking for masses on my ovaries Hmm Blush.

Hope you're all well. X

booboo16 · 29/02/2016 16:24

Good luck Shoes! I hope your lh surge has decided to make an appearance Flowers.

Thank you Caution Smile Good luck with your appointment tomorrow! I hope your doctor listens to you! The first appointment I had with my fertility clinic left me in tears, but I was lucky enough to meet a lovely understanding doctor thereafter. Some of the doctors have no empathy, whilst others simply don't listen.

Kwick Yay! That is great news Grin Looks like your body is listening to your positive affirmations!! Flowers When do you have to go back?

INeedNewShoes · 29/02/2016 17:16

Caution try not to worry too much - there are any number of things that could be meddling with your cycle, and many of them are less scary-sounding than 'masses'. Hope you get a scan appt soon.

Kwick your scan sounds really positive. Fingers crossed that things keep looking good.

I think I might skip to IVF after this IUI attempt.

Still patiently awaiting my LH surge. If it doesn't show up by tomorrow morning I'll have to make a decision to stay another night in case it turns up, or cut my losses and assume I missed my LH surge and come home. Hmm Sad

On the bright side my hotel has 'wine hour' so I've just had a lovely glass of wine at no charge. I know some might not agree with drinking pre-IUI but I think the pros outweigh the cons for me today!

Kwick709 · 29/02/2016 18:05

shoes go for it! No issue with drinking now or during 2ww. I really hope you are surging as I type!

caution it is very reassuring that you will get a scan. Most things can be sorted and at least you will have
a better idea of what you are dealing with. Do you know what type if scan?

I have drunk loads of milk today and I may be feeling a bit sick

My next scan is on Wednesday so I am going to have another fertility boosting meal tonight and make another yummy soup for tomorrow. I may even dose my breakfast scrambled eggs with cayenne pepper tomorrow to encourage more uterine blood flow!

INeedNewShoes · 29/02/2016 18:22

Kwick if you happen to have a Waitrose nearby you might like to try the Duchy organic blue top milk that comes in a pint size bottle (one step bigger than the usual little bottles).

I switched to full fat milk a couple of months ago to support my conception attempts and for general health reasons and this particular Duchy milk is absolutely lush - cream forms on the top like the old fashioned doorstep milk - yum!

Kwick709 · 29/02/2016 18:31

Sounds yummy shoes no Waitrose near but I do always try to get organic whole. You need to have the fat in the milk to absorb the calcium.

taydex · 29/02/2016 18:32

Caution - Try not to worry. It's good that they're taking a look to see what's going on. Plenty of these things can be worked with to allow people to conceive. Please don't worry.

BooBoo - I've had the same experience with doctors. I actually now demand to see the 1 specific doctor at my clinic when I can. He he he.

Shoes - Hang on in there. Maybe the wine will help the surge? Ooh, wine! I miss wine. I think I will drink small amounts but not quite yet. Each to their own I say. I don't see anything wrong you having a glass of wine, sounds like you need it, and it is free... I had a sneaky glass somewhere in my cycle and doesn't seem to have done me any harm. There's no judging here, right ladies? I might write on here all the things I did that may have not stuck strictly to the rules at some point, show you need to take it all with a pinch of salt and don't get too stressed about it all.

Kwik - I hear you with the milk. I over did it one day. Now on just milk on my cereal and a glass sometime during the day. If I can find decaff latte I'll have one of those too but the posh stuff at my work is only full caff so I'm on lovely instant decaf. Mmmm. He he. Anyway, sounds like whatever you are doing is working a treat! Smile

taydex · 29/02/2016 18:34

I agree re the whole milk but can't stand the taste (I've got too used to the low fat), if I'm drinking it on its own it has to be semi skimmed for me. Not as good re conception and baby growing but has to be better than no milk/skimmed/me throwing up cos I can't stand the full fat, right? Wink

Kwick709 · 29/02/2016 18:39

taydex have you tried goats milk?

In terms of drinking I think a little every now and again is fine - my mum drank Guiness with me she also ground up egg shells for the calcium which she later found out had been dipped in arsenic but we won't dwell on that

CautionHormone · 29/02/2016 20:27

Thank you ladies. I know there's a number of things that could be playing a part - I've recently had bloods though, and it's not thyroid or anything like that, hence why she's sending me for a scan. We'll find out soon enough though what's causing it, just hope I'm not booked in months away! Nope I have no idea what kind of scan it'll be kwick - she didn't say anything else apart from she's sending me for a scan & they're looking for masses. I guess that's worst case scenario, eh?
It was tender when she pressed on my lower left stomach, which is why I think she's sending me for further investigations. Time will tell!

kwick let us know how your scan goes on Wednesday. What is it for?

shoes, I'm sorry your LH surge hasn't made an appearance yet. What CD are you on? When do you usually ovulate? Don't worry about the wine - it won't hurt to have a glass, surely?!

taydex how've you been feeling? Have you any symptoms yet!?

Xx
