Donor IUI?

MinnieMooMoo · 09/10/2013 15:12

Hello! Just looking for a group/quiche to join but not really sure where I fit it.

I'm intending to go it alone and have Donor Insemination by IUI starting in January providing my investigations all come back clear.

Any one else in the same boat, or has done it alone in the past?

Sounds good Kwick

I'm on my way home. Went to clinic this morning who scanned me and my largest follicle is only 12mm.

So I gather that means I'm at least 4 days off ovulating?

I'm actually pleased on the whole as I really want to do this cycle and am glad I haven't missed it.

Chemical pregnancy must have delayed everything.

taydex · 02/03/2016 12:02

Yay! That's excellent news. Don't be worried about it taking longer. This last cycle I did was the longest one of the 5 (7) that I have done and the only one that's worked. Maybe the slower the grow the more viable they are?

If you need some more ClearBlue strips I have some spare I can send you... PM me if you want them and I'll pop them in the post.

taydex · 02/03/2016 12:03

Oh, and they tend to grow at roughly 1 mm a day (perhaps a little more, 1.5 mm maybe) so yes, I'd say 4 days or so. Well, that's based on mine and something I read in a book/online so could well vary. x

INeedNewShoes · 02/03/2016 12:25

Taydex that's really kind of you. I'll take you up on that offer. I'll pm later when I'm home (find using mumsnet on my phone a bit tricky).

And thanks for sharing your experience. This is reassuring as I was wondering if the slow progress might be a problem.

I need to read up on optimum follicle size etc. I've realised I know nothing about it because my clinic don't scan as a matter of course. They just go on LH surge. Their stats are good so this must be sufficient!

CautionHormone · 02/03/2016 13:14

Hi ladies! Hope you're all feeling alright.

newshoes, sorry about you being so far off from ovulation, but at least you know you haven't missed it. Will you be going back when you are ovulating or will you leave this cycle?

booboo I went to the doctors Monday :) they said they're checking for 'masses' on my ovaries. I'm hoping it's nothing, but I had my bloods done in November when I went after not having one for two and a half months and my hormones we're alright(ish) Hmm can't work it out!

taydex, six weeks Friday?! Ah how lovely. I'm glad you've not got any symptoms, because you could be as sick as a dog... But like you said, it still could come! No more news from the docs yet. Just have to wait until tomorrow to ring to book a scan (it takes three working days for the referral to go through) so I'll know when I'm having it done tomorrow. Thank you for asking though, lovely :)

kwick I'm glad theyre coming along nicely. Do you know when egg retrieval will be yet?? Also, may I be rude enough to ask what your symptoms were when you had an ovarian cyst? Xx

taydex · 02/03/2016 16:47

Shoes - My clinic usually likes follicles to be 18mm+ but they're happy (ish) with anything 15/16 mm upwards. Not sure if that is standard or just my clinic.

Cuation - If I think about it too much I convince myself that my tummy is feeling weird, but mostly I think it's just hunger. I guess if your body is busy growing a baby it'll need a few more calories! Fingers crossed you get an appointment soon - keep us posted.

pickle162 · 02/03/2016 17:08

Hey all,

Wow all been busy with posts, stupid thing has stopped sending me notifications-don't know why it happens every now and again
So shoes will you be able to go back in a few days to have it done?

Thanks all for well wishes, I feel like I have tonsillitis type pain in throat at mo and worn out from all the crying I did yesterday and hospital said soft tissue damage so just got to wait for swelling to go down.feel a bit low about it all but I'll get over it!
Hope everyone is ok x

Kwick709 · 02/03/2016 18:23

That is pants pickle I am really sorry that you have to deal with this - hope you feel better soon.

shoes I am so pleased you did not miss ovulation! My clinic has 18mm as the line for IUI and IVF - but the lovely scanner lady told me they will take all the eggs they can, just anything below 18 is not likely to be mature - so will not fertilise.

caution so when I was 19 which was only 2 years ago which was 22 years ago I was seeing an osteopath for my back problems. She said that she could feel a tenderness in my womble area and suggested I get a scan. I saw my GP who insisted on doing a pregnancy test even though I told her it would be the immaculate conception! I had no symptoms. I was put on a wait list for a scan - this was August, scan happened in October - they found a cyst on my right ovary. By the time it was removed it was the size of a grapefruit and had completely "eaten" the ovary. I had to have a major op to have it removed. Medicine has moved on since then but my advice would be to have the scan asap so you can know what is what. You have to have a plan Stan!

All systems are go here - clinic rang me earlier - I am to inject ovulation trigger tonight and egg collection is on Friday am!!!!!

Kwick709 · 02/03/2016 18:29

taydex I completely get the record keeping and I may have only thrown out all my used OPKs and pregnancy tests the other day when I realised that was a step too far
I write notes in my phone and then email them to myself to ensure they survive if my phone does not....
I say whatever keeps you happy!

pickle162 · 02/03/2016 18:35

Eeek kwick how exciting, happy egg collecting day for Friday!!!

Kwick709 · 02/03/2016 20:13

Fanks pickle... I am trying not to freak out!

CautionHormone · 02/03/2016 21:38

taydex you're right, your body does need a few extra calories! But the weirdness could also be because of your bun in the oven.. Who knows! I'll definitely keep you posted on the scan :)

kwick ah seriously?! It's crazy you didn't have any symptoms with such a big cyst. Because I was tender on the lower left hand side the Dr didn't want to press about too much so has left it up to the scan to detect anything. My lower back aches, but that could also be because of the degenerative disc I have... It's so hard to distinguish if it's ovaries or my DD... I phone to book my scan tomorrow, I'll let you know when it is Wink. Ooh egg collection on Friday?! I'm so excited for you!!

Bless your heart pickle. Soft tissue damage is sore anywhere, but must be 10x worse in your throat/neck! X

taydex · 03/03/2016 10:34

Good morning ladies,

Pickle - Mine does that too, stops sending notifications randomly so I have no idea there's been activity on here. Weird... How is the sore throat? Is it starting to feel any better yet? Has the swelling gone down at all?

Kwik - Your posts really make me laugh. I love the crossings out Smile Oh, and I've never heard it called womble area! I am totally stealing that!!! I bet you're getting excited about the egg collection. I hope it's not painful. I have no idea, I've tried to avoid looking up more than I need to right now to be honest (in denial that one day we might use IVF!). I still have all my +ve preg test sticks, does that make me weird? Have you used the Wunderlist app? You can have it on your phone and PC etc. Whatever lists you write upload to the cloud/internet/some magic I don't fully understand and you can access from any device. I am a bit of a list fan in case you hadn't guessed!

Caution - I'll get on with those extra calories. It's fine if they're all in the form of chocolate, right? Managed to convince myself this morning that my tummy's not quite feeling right (in terms of stomach I mean and potential feeling a bit sicky), but actually I think it probably has more to do with the curry I had last night! Or it's psychological - the more I think about it the more I feel a bit dodgy. If I forget about it I feel fine. Maybe I'm just a little bit nuts...!

Shoes - Any news?

I definitely haven't been playing online on Amazon this morning, listening to some really cute CDs where they take normal music and make it all lullbaby-y.... I also definitely did not look at any of the baby clothes in the sale in Sainsbury's last night. No, that would be wrong...

CautionHormone · 03/03/2016 13:15

Taydex - extra calories in terms of chocolate is most definitely ok! Wink.
Haha you made me laugh - maybe it's the curry, maybe it's not! Soon you'll be reminiscing on this time when you had no symptoms - I bet they'll come by the shed load soon Grin.

Been trying since 11:30am to get through to book my scan... Still haven't got through! I am getting so impatient Angry

taydex · 03/03/2016 14:33

So far I have been MADE to eat crisps and ginger biscuits. Not my choice, honest guv! He he he.

I chatted to my Mum earlier and she said she felt a bit queasy with both of us for about 2 weeks from 6-8 weeks. I think I'd be happy if I got away with that! Smile

Any news on the scan? Reminds me, I need to call my GP again, I keep getting bounced from pillar to post (GP said no not us, call midwife... midwife said not us yet, get GP to fill out a form... the saga continues).

CautionHormone · 03/03/2016 15:46

Ah that's not too bad taydex! I'd be happy with that too :)

Yep, finally got through to book my scan. They said they had no appointments, and that I have to wait for a phone call or a letter from them with my appointment...!!! Angry
I'm so bloody angry, especially because the doctor doesn't send you for ultrasounds for no reason. I could be waiting weeks/months! I'm going to go back to her tomorrow and ask what I should do. I've been having more pains again today too. Just my luck!

CautionHormone · 03/03/2016 15:56

Oh & in regards to your GP/midwife, don't let them take no for an answer!!! It's always strange how the first 12 weeks are most important yet nobody seems to want to see you Hmm

taydex · 03/03/2016 16:38

Finally got through to my doctor's surgery and the earliest appointment I could have is Tue 15 March. Good job I'm not ill then! Hmm Ah well, I'd best practice being patient...

taydex · 03/03/2016 16:39

And yes, I did consider telling the receptionist I had some concerns/worries to bump up the queue a little LOL. Didn't actually do it though, I'm sure there are people ahead of me who really are poorly.

INeedNewShoes · 03/03/2016 18:52

Caution that's hopeless. Did they give you any idea how long the wait is? You can get ultrasounds privately from £100 (£200 including consultation with doctor). If you're really concerned it might be worth it?

Taydex how frustrating to be passed from pillar to post. I'm sure it won't matter waiting a couple of weeks for your dr appt. Many women wouldn't even know yet that they're pregnant at this stage in the normal course of things! Though if you're anything like me you'll be chomping at the bit to get the wheels in motion (ooh check out my double metaphor).

I'm now back to square one of waiting for my LH surge which I'm guessing might turn up on Monday or thereabouts. I could go to a local clinic and pay £100 for another follicle tracking scan but although that would show whether things are progressing I'd still be just waiting for LH. We're all having to exercise our patience, aren't we!?

Kwick709 · 03/03/2016 19:20

wow you guys have been busy today!

Taydex glad you find my posts funny - we aim to please Grin I cannot claim credit for term womble though that comes from another thread I am on that has its own language!
I must look up the wunderlist thing although I do not use the cloud as far as I know
you have been busy online Hmm

Confessions from my end: I just had a lamb sharwma and it did not even hit the sides... I have a ferocious appetite this week!

Caution I agree with shoes - consider going private - worth it to know what is up.

Taydex doesn't your clinic do a follow-up with you before the NHS kicks in? Maybe you did that already and my amnesia has made an appearance again Confused

shoes hang in there - for sure you will get surge pronto and then can leg it back to Copenhagen! You said you were using one of their donors... would you like to share more details - like how did you choose? Sorry - I am very curious having had to chose a donor myself.

pickle how are you feeling my lovely?

I am soooooooooooo tempted to have blow out and buy some new bras... I do have some M&S vouchers to use... BTW am I right in thinking that when preggers you are not supposed to wear underwired bras? And do any of you lovely ladies know how I can get rid of white deodarant marks from my boobage holders? For some reason the one I am using currently leaves marks...Envy

pickle162 · 03/03/2016 19:40

I got a really good wireless bra the other week-was in debenhams tho, it was in the dd+ range I think...very similar to a Freya version but cheaper....I didn't get it cos of poss getting pregnant just coincidence
I'm ok,worked out this morning that of lie on back my throat completely close and can't breathe but can feel improvements, altho very fragile, had staff meeting today and think I cried about 9times,very embarrassing but couldn't deal with anything minutely negative sent my way.gonna take time to get over I suppose

Kwick709 · 03/03/2016 19:53

oh sweetie it sounds like a hard time pickle please take it easy and look after yourself.

I just went thriugh M&S site and put in basket what I think is my size (40G!!!) then I did the tool thing and they say 42E but nothing available in that size that I like Envy

CautionHormone · 03/03/2016 20:00

Shoes - I have no idea how long the wait will be. I did ask but they wouldn't say, all they'd say is 'as soon as possible'. That doesn't help me any though, does it? Angry
I am considering going private. The local fertility clinic does scans, so I'll have a look at their prices maybe. I am a little concerned because of the twinges I'm getting and the lack of periods... I'm going to book an appointment tomorrow to see my doctor regarding what went on today, she herself seemed concerned so she may send me for private but I won't have to pay for it, if that makes sense? Or she may be able to hurry it along a bit. I'll keep you all updated :)

I'm gutted you still haven't had your surge yet. What will you do when you get it? Are you going back to Copenhagen?

Kwick I have no idea regarding underwired bras and pregnancy... I haven't heard that one before! Is it your scan tomorrow? Or is it egg collection tomorrow?! I've completely forgot what you said! Either way though, good luck :)

Taydex - 15th March?! That's chaos..!! Sounds just as bad as my surgery, the pre-bookable appointments are always like three weeks away Hmm hopefully it'll come round quickly for you :)

Pickle, bless your heart. Sending lots of positive vibes your way.

Hope you're all having a nice evening ladies. Xx

CautionHormone · 03/03/2016 20:33

The only way I can explain the pain on my left hand side is like when I had appendicitis, but this comes and goes - my appendix pain didn't! Hmm
