Anyone about to start/just started TTC number 2?

mrsm22 · 03/09/2013 20:35

Hi ladies, I am 31 and have one DS already. After my DS I went back on the pill but have decided to stop the pill and start TTC baby number 2 and wondered if anyone was also just about to start trying or just started and we could follow each other and share as we go along. I literally have stopped my pill last week for the 7 day break, and am meant to start taking it again tomorrow but obviously won't be, so I am very literally just starting to try for number two but am very excited! That's why I thought it might be nice to go through it with other people who are also trying. I have heard some people say that after your first baby you are more fertile but I am not sure so I am really not sure how long it will take this time. Does it usually not take as long second time round? It has taken a lot for me to decide for definite that I'd like another as I had an awful time in labour with forceps and 3rd degree tears etc which really scared me and must admit I'm terrified of another scary birth experience.

Hi All, great to hear from everyone Smile No news here either, still waiting for AF and wondering every day if /when she will show her face. It seems we are all in the same boat at the moment , it's a waiting game! I too really want to get pregnant before the end of the year when my little DS turns 2. I hate waiting!

OP posts:
utopian99 · 20/09/2013 20:24

Definitely another who feels the pressure for a bfp asap - ds is almost 9 months and we originally thought we'd start TTC at 6 months but house buying delayed plans..
Still no AF since ditching the pill but ewm as some of you kindly explained above might mean i'm.ovulating first?
Lots of fun has been had since pill ditched though, it must have really effected my libido as it's such a change back to what I always thought of as normal..

Metalhead · 20/09/2013 22:35

Sorry to hear you've had another BFN Kt1991. It must be really hard when you're periods are that irregular even when you've been on the pill.

I'm also feeling the pressure with regards to age gap, because we waited quite long to start ttc #2 it now means I really feel I have to get pregnant within a year or the gap would be too big. That said, I know I couldn't have started any sooner as I really struggled with PND for a long time and having two close together would have pushed me over the edge.

utopian99 · 21/09/2013 08:56

I do wonder at what the reality of two close together will be... We've had two restless nights due to a cold, and I'm knackered!

BetterNotBitter · 21/09/2013 19:34

Pretty sure this isn't going to be our month! Although that's not a big surprise, it is the first month!

AF due Thursday/Friday & been exceptionally premenstrual today hormone wise! Also thoroughly knackered for no apparent reason and generally feeling rubbish so looks like this won't be my one and only cycle of TTC!!

lucyjojo · 21/09/2013 19:40

Hmm, I just don't think we can win really when it comes to age gaps!!
How old is your first child Metalhead? Sorry to hear you had PND, that must have been such a struggle.
I do a little bit regret leaving it until now to start ttc for #2 seen as it's taking a bit longer than I'd hoped, but that said, I don't think I could have started trying any earlier really, it's nice to have some time back to ourselves as a couple now that DD is a bit older and easier to manage! Although toddlers are exhausting in a totally different way....
Colds are no fun, we're all just getting over one here, hope you have managed to avoid catching it yourself utopian99!

mrsm22 · 21/09/2013 20:32

Hi Lucyjojo - I agree with what you say about the age gap thing. I always wanted a 2 to 3 year gap as I think that is nice and close but also not too close. My DS will be 2 at the end if the year and I thought by coming off the pill at the beginning of September that I would have a good chance if being pregnant by or before DS's bday. I'm still hoping for that! How old is your DC? Like you, I couldn't really have started TTC any sooner .
Utopian - I think we came off the pill at around the same time, it's nearly 3 weeks for me so I'm not losing hope yet as I would expect it to be at least a month before getting AF. I just wanted to say that I also feel loads better and more normal since coming off the pill. I think I was a lot less bothered about DTD when I was on the pill and lost my libido a bit and I also feel a lot less stressed and more relaxed about everything. I really do think the pill makes or can make you moody and anxious and emotional, as well as less interested in sex. On hindsight I wish I had perhaps come off the pill in July or August but at the end of the day it's nature and nature will take it's course for all of us.
Hi Metalhead- sorry, how old is your DC again? It's hard remembering with so many of us now! I hope it happens soon for you and this time hopefully much different for you (without any PND)- well done for coming through it obviously very well and wanting another one.
Betternotbitter- let us know if AF appears. For the last few days I've felt a bit premenstrual too, bloated tummy, hair gone oily very quickly, headache, feeling warm and got a couple of spots I can feel under my skin on my chin (I never get spots) so keep thinking AF is coming but then no sign . Maybe she's trying to make her way...
Anyway I hope everyone is enjoying the weekend ! Tomorrow is my birthday (scary 32) so I may not have chance to get on here tomorrow ( not sure yet what the plan is with DH and DS) but I will try get on in the morning and if not, definitely Monday. X

kt1991 any test updates? Fingers crossed for you.

lucyjojo utopian metalhead it's so hard to work out the right gap! I've found it hard because I don't feel like my little girl is ready at this moment in time and I feel like the 121 with mummy & daddy is still valuable as she's so small still. But in 9 months time she'll be much more ready for a companion, especially if she keeps progressing at her current rate! And that's hoping it doesn't take too bloody long to conceive! It's a minefield.

mrsm I won't be on tomorrow so a slightly premature happy birthday from me, you share a birthday with my niece and I'm up at this hour baking a birthday cake which had slipped my mind until just before bed! Have a lovely day x x

utopian99 · 22/09/2013 01:35

better impressive dedication to cake!

Ovulation and pg test strips arrived today so I only wentand ttested both at 8.30pm. Unsurprisingly got negs on both, given came off pill 2 weeks ago but still slightly Sad at this. I am a moron, aren't I?

Hope everyone's having a good weekend! Happy early birthday wishes mrsm..

mrsm22 · 22/09/2013 11:47

Thank you BetternotBitter and Utopian xx

Utopian I done the same! I have all the signs Af is on the way yet I go and waste a test! I dont think its stupid well ok I do but its something we all do im sure especially at the start! Hope soon we get bfps and stop feeling Sad
Happy birthday mrsm hope your getting spoilt Wink!

Metalhead · 22/09/2013 15:03

Happy birthday mrsm22! I hope your two boys are spoiling you today and you can forget about the stresses of ttc for a while.

Sorry to hear you've been disappointed utopian but as you probably already know it would have been too early to test after just 2 weeks of the pill.

Coming back to the age gap, my DD is 3.3, so if I conceived this month we'd have a 4 year gap, which I think would be quite nice for us. However, I don't really want there to be more than 5 years between them at the most as I think they would be too far apart then to have anything in common for a long long time.

Added to this is the dilemma that the in-laws have just revealed they want to take us all on holiday next July or August, which will be just after or on new baby's due date if we conceive between now and Xmas. Really don't know what to do about this - I don't want to tell them we're trying in case it doesn't happen for ages, but at the same time I'd feel bad if they lost loads of money because we had to cancel our booking.

I think we'll just have to make sure this is our month so we know where we stand! Positive thinking! Grin

Kt1991 · 22/09/2013 22:05

betternotbitter took another test yesterday morning but still BFN and a week late now so think my hormones are completely mucked up! Had really bad cramps last night so was expecting to wake up to AF but nothing.

Happy birthday mrsm22 hope you've had a lovely day and maybe conceive as a birthday present!

Metalhead · 23/09/2013 14:58

Any sign of AF yet Kt1991?

I took my first ovulation test today, as expected it was negative with just a faint line but I've got a bumper pack so am prepared! Will start resuming dtd every other day as soon as my parents-in-law are gone tomorrow (well, probably wait until the evening...)

Kt1991 · 23/09/2013 20:00

When I checked earlier I had a few really light pink blood when I wiped but that's gone now!! So not sure if its AF/inplantation bleeding or just my body being really weird?! I'm so confused. Does anyone else have any updates?

utopian99 · 23/09/2013 20:34

Still nowt. Am trying mightily not to test just for larks - after ditching the pill I couldn't help thinking we'll be pg in matter of days, getting excited, testing way to early toget any result aanyway and then getting disheartened.
Am now leaving it another fortnight as have calmed down a bit I hope! Can you use ovulation tests any time though?

SoMuchFruit · 24/09/2013 08:08

Any news Kt1991 ?

Lucyjojo - 3rd month ttc too, it isn't much I know but I get that 'waiting' feeling too. Everything seems to be taking so long. And there are babies and baby things EVERYWHERE.

That's the soonest AF will be here (8/10) as my cycles can be irregular. I have decided there is no 2WW this month. Going to DTD eod until either she shows or I get a BFP.

The 2WW is a too stressy. I feel if I do it like this it's one of 2 things, either AF or a BFP. Unfortunately OH is away from 1st-3rd so hoping that's not when I ov. Typically it probably will be but all I can do is DTD in the morning before he leaves.

Stacks · 24/09/2013 09:57

No updates from me either, I only finished with AF a couple of days ago so I've not even ovulated yet. Still ages till a 2ww, plus the fact that as it was first AF and I'm still bf, she could come back anytime. Tomorrow morning I'm going to start tracking my bbt again.

I found TTC stressful last time, as society seems to tell you that you'll get pg instantly - accidents are so easy and common right? I remember thinking I was probably pg from dtd the first time without protection, just days after stopping the pill. It took 18 months in the end! I'm trying to be a little more relaxed this time, but that's easy for me to say just now as I'm not in a 2ww.

Kt - I hope it was just implantation bleeding and you get a bfp soon. What brand test are you using? The digital tests are notoriously slow to show a bfp, I think the super drug ones are meant to be really sensitive, as are "internet cheapies" from amazon etc (the ovulation sticks are good too). Far far cheaper than shop bought, but the same as they use in labs. I recommend them if you're likely to test lots.

mrsm22 · 24/09/2013 10:21

Hi everyone, thanks for all your birthday messages! Had a lovely day on Sunday with DH and DS. We went out for the day to a big park with farm and playground (not sure where people are located but we are in Leeds) and out for a lovely meal in the evening. How was the weekend for everyone else?
Utopian - I have a confession, I had to nip out Sunday morning and while I was out I picked up a pack of 2 pregnancy tests in tesco and stupidly did one when I got back Sunday morning . It's only 3 weeks since I've been off the pill, well tomorrow but I just thought 'what if' but sadly and obviously got a BFN. Did feel disappointed but DH really wanted me to do one just on case. I'm the same as you, I wonder if we can still check for ovulation without yet having a period. Does anyone know ? I'm thinking now that it isn't really that long til Xmas and I really wan to conceive by then, as we all do!
I agree with Stacks, you read and hear about how easy it is and stories where people got pregnant after missing one pill etc. We are DTD pretty much every day but I personally think that I am waiting for AF and that I probably won't conceive until after then. As someone above said before, and a doctor told me last time I was TTC you CAN still ovulate without having AF and get pregnant but usually a sign that you are ovulating is to have or get AF.

mrsm22 · 24/09/2013 10:32

Metalhead- Good news about your positive ovulation test, good luck trying and fingers crossed for you! As for a possible 4 year gap, I think that's perfectly fine. Re the holiday with your inlaws- definitely don't think you should tell them that you are TTC as it just adds more pressure . I suppose the question is , do you want to go away with them next July /August and if so I think for now you'd have to say yes and if you are pregnant by then depends how you feel about travelling. I personally don't like to go abroad or far from home in case anything happens but u would say yes for now ( if you do want to go) and then if you are you can always let then down. At the DVD of the day , these things happen and crop up and plus if they cancel enough in advanced they can probably and often not have have to lose their money as presumably they would still go? Just my advice anyway x

OP posts:
Metalhead · 24/09/2013 11:49

Thanks mrsm22, we have decided not to tell them as like you say it would just add more pressure. We'd love to go on holiday with them as it would be free for us and we had a really nice time when we went this year. I think if I was pregnant I'd be fine, but the thought of going abroad with a newborn fills me with dread!! Second time round is supposedly easier, but last time I wasn't really in any fit state to leave the house for a month, let alone go abroad... anyway, we shall wait and see what happens!

Just did another opk and the line is still quite faint, though possibly a bit darker than yesterday so I'm taking this as a good sign. Also -TMI warning! - I've been having quite a lot of stretchy cm since yesterday, so will definitely have to get DH to dtd tonight!

I'm sure you can do opks anytime, even before you've had AF after coming off the pill, it just means you could potentially be testing for a long time without getting a positive result. I'm using the cheap tests off Amazon, and if I understand it correctly they show a faint line for most of the month and then a darker line for the day of ovulation or just before.

BetterNotBitter · 24/09/2013 13:06

Re timing of ovulation tests, yes anytime goes.

Obviously, if you know where you are in your cycle you'll know roughly when to test but I had no idea what my cycle was doing when I had the implant removed. Tested after some ovulation symptoms & it was positive.

As far as I understand, you'll ovulate a few weeks before your period even when you've just come off the pill etc. so if you came of the pill 3 weeks ago, it's very possible you'll have ovulated in that time them you'll have a period if you haven't been lucky enough to conceive.

Does that make sense to those asking! Not sure if I've explained that very well!

mrsSOAK · 24/09/2013 13:29

Hello lovely ladies,
Just an update: AF arrived 3 days late Sad
It is much heavier than before (only 2nd period since removal of coil) and much more painful.
I am a little worried that my cycle might have changed and I am getting my fertile dates wrong because of it.
Fingers crossed for those of you waiting for AF!
