Anyone about to start/just started TTC number 2?

mrsm22 · 03/09/2013 20:35

Hi ladies, I am 31 and have one DS already. After my DS I went back on the pill but have decided to stop the pill and start TTC baby number 2 and wondered if anyone was also just about to start trying or just started and we could follow each other and share as we go along. I literally have stopped my pill last week for the 7 day break, and am meant to start taking it again tomorrow but obviously won't be, so I am very literally just starting to try for number two but am very excited! That's why I thought it might be nice to go through it with other people who are also trying. I have heard some people say that after your first baby you are more fertile but I am not sure so I am really not sure how long it will take this time. Does it usually not take as long second time round? It has taken a lot for me to decide for definite that I'd like another as I had an awful time in labour with forceps and 3rd degree tears etc which really scared me and must admit I'm terrified of another scary birth experience.

Snap - I've had nothing at all blood-wise, but no idea what to expect when..

Just a quickie - has anyone changed drinking habits in advance? I only have the odd glass due to ds, but has anyone given up in advance?

donnas1984 · 17/09/2013 18:29

Like you I dont really drink much can go weeks without a drop. having a hangover is out of the questions with a little prima donna running around shouting for peppa pig every 5 mins! Have also started eating a little healthier!

Stacks · 17/09/2013 19:32

I don't really drink, so giving up is no chore. When trying for DS I would drink (if I wanted to) the day AF turned up (I'd also have nice dinner, chocolate and a rom com), and the few days after, then give up during the 2ww. However logically drinking during the 2ww shouldn't harm the embryo, as its not attached yet. It lives off the yolk sac for the first 6 weeks and isn't connected to your blood supply. Not that I'm telling anyone it's ok to drink, it's just not the end of the world if you do/did.

I think DH definately wants more bedroom action, he did day he wasn't sure if it was his brain or elsewhere deciding it was time to start trying Grin

Stacks · 17/09/2013 19:33

Also, yes, pill has a reputation for suppressing libidos.

mrsm22 · 17/09/2013 19:43

Hi Metalhead - glad your back is better and you've been able to go back to work. Lucky you working from home, that must make things easier when you have a new baby around. I was on maternity leave from December 2011 to December 2012 (was meant to be a year) but ended up managing to get an extra 6 months after that, so I only went back to work in June (3 months ago) and I'm working 3 days a week. BUT it was a battle getting part time agreed. They wanted me to go back full time but there was no way I was leaving my DS full time. I still find it hard leaving him on the days I do work but he has one day with his daddy and two days with my mum and dad so it works out well.

Utopian99- my DS was born on 28th December, just a day after yours. I don't really drink so I haven't had to give anything up, I haven't actually had a drop since before I got pregnant with my DS. I am eating extra healthily though.
Donnas1984 and Stacks - I've read that your libido improves when you come off the pill and I've only been off it for two weeks but I feel completely different since stopping taking the pill. My sex drive has improved and I also feel a lot less moody and stressed. I definitely wouldn't go back on the pill.

mrsm22 I too work 3 days a week, though luckily had no trouble getting it agreed. My company's very big on flexible working, but DD still goes to nursery when I work as I basically do a 'normal' office job, just not in an office, and can't look after a child whilst doing my work.

Re alcohol, I do like a drink and haven't given up what ttc, though I try to only drink at the weekends and not more than a couple of glasses of wine a night between ovulation and AF. I've also read what Stacks said though about baby not being affected by it very early on, so I'm not too worried about not giving it up completely at this stage.

mrsm22 · 17/09/2013 20:21

Hi Metalhead - how does your DD like nursery? I'm not sure what would happen if/when I have another DC as I think it would be harder for me going into the office 3 days a week and don't know if my mum would be happy to have two for me two days a week. My mum and dad are both retired and love having my DS but I think they also find it tiring sometimes. My DH is self-employed and luckily can pick and choose his hours so that is a big help. I too have a 'normal' office type job.

DD absolutely loves nursery! Mind you, we have been through some tough times when she didn't want to go and would cry every morning, but overall she's been very happy there and I think it has been good for her as she was very clingy and shy until quite recently, so it's nice to see her making friends. I also think it'll make the transition to school easier for her, especially as she'll only be 4 when she starts.

One of the reasons we waited quite long to try for number 2 was that we couldn't afford to send two to nursery though, and I couldn't be a SAHM. Childcare for two is definitely much more complicated than for one!

mrsm22 · 17/09/2013 22:10

Thanks Metalhead, glad your DD enjoys nursery. Must admit, since I've been back at work since June I have noticed a big difference in my DS. He used to cry if I left the room to go to the loo without him but now will happily stay with his dad or my parents. Right off to bed now as back to work tomo. Good night all and good luck x

Hi everyone,

Just wondering how everyone is doing and if anyone has any updates? I've been feeling a bit bloated the last couple of days and a bit like i might be due for AF but as yet no bleeding. Fingers crossed she comes soon. Hope everyone is ok. x

Hi mrs! No news here, still waiting for AF to bugger off completely, and then netx week I shall start using the opks I bought.

Until then I'm hoping I'm not coming down with another cold as I've been very sneezy today, and trying to have a relaxing weekend with the in-laws!

Hope AF makes an appearance for you soon.

utopian99 · 19/09/2013 19:03

No AF here, two weeks since ditching pill. Getting funny aches every now and then so keep thinking it'll arrive but no. Also (sorry in advance) stringy ming.. What does that mean? I remember it means something but having ds was very much a case of ditch pill, shag, repeat, so I'm not v clued up on all this!

Stacks · 19/09/2013 19:55

No news here either, though after a bad day with DS I was wondering how smart out decision for another cd really is..

utopian hehe, if you mean egg white cervical mucous (ewcm) is means it's time to get shagging!! It's the most reliable sign of impending ovulation, so get at it :)

donnas1984 · 19/09/2013 21:23

hey all bive had a right pishy daySad there were even tears at work today! 2 weeks off the implant and my hormones are bouncing off the walls. also getting a spotty chin area which if I remember correctly means impending af!

donnas1984 · 19/09/2013 21:28

also had anyone else forgot how awful you feel without your artificial hormones! im up and down like a yo yo!

BetterNotBitter · 20/09/2013 09:11

Hi everyone!

No news here really. Ovulated a week ago so now halfway through my first 2ww which is bloody awful!! Not going to go down the road of testing based on days post ovulation, going to wait a few week to see if AF comes. Tricky as it'll be first one since coming off the implant, before that breastfeeding, pregnancy and the pill. So all in all its years & years since I've had a proper cycle I suppose. I'm going off the assumption of 28 days I think. So I'll test if no AF a good few days after it should be.

Pretty sure this won't be our month though as wasnt really to grips with ovulation testing last time and sure by the time I got my positive I was a few days in. Also, ovulation happened to fall on my husbands first work night out since before our 20 month old was born. So we lost the night he went out and the full next day....I did warn him he was out of practice but the hangover was the worst he'd ever had! Typical.

SoMuchFruit · 20/09/2013 10:48

Nothing to report here. CD10 and have started out on plan to DTD eod since CD7. Going well so far, much fun actually. Frisky daytime texting and some new and surprising silky laaaahngerrie to come are making it very entertaining. Long may it last. I plan to DTD eod with a few bits of everyday until AF shows up which at the earliest should be 8/10.

I am a bit concerned about leakage (I posted on the Oct Bus thread for anyone who can be arsed to read my paranoid rambling) and lack of lots of EWCM. I have some but not loads IYWIM. I suppose some os better than none ?

Am already planning next cycle to include SMEP and Preseed. Dunno if I am being negative, pragmatic or trying to temp fate.

SoMuchFruit · 20/09/2013 10:49

*IYKWIM..

Kt1991 · 20/09/2013 12:56

My AF is 5 days late now, POAS on wed but was negative, so not sure whether to test again at the weekend or not? Thinking if it said negative 3 days late, probably means AF will come sometime soon Sad. I’ve still been getting period cramps nearly everyday so will see!

BetterNotBitter · 20/09/2013 14:29

kt1991 5 days late? Id be testing again!!

Kt1991 · 20/09/2013 14:59

I'm not sure if its just because I don't get regular periods though :/ I don't want the disappointment of another BFN either Sad.

Metalhead · 20/09/2013 16:27

I admire your restraint Kt1991 - I'd probably have used at least 5 tests by now!! If you can wait a few more days and see what happens, that's certainly not going to do any harm and might save you a wasted test, but if AF still hasn't shown by the end of the weekend I'd definitely re-test. How irregular are your cycles usually?

lucyjojo · 20/09/2013 18:22

Hi everyone!
Kt1991 have you tested first thing in the morning? Hopefully you'll get a +ve result soon!
I am full of positivity this month, it is my 3rd month of ttc which I suppose in the grand scheme isn't much, but everyday that you're waiting...waiting...it feels like a life time doesn't it! We are ttc everyday if we possibly can until I'm pretty sure ovulation period is over, so another week or so, then eod maybe and I will be crossing my fingers! I'm due for AF on 8/10 as well SoMuchFruit, we can go through the long wait together! I'm really hoping to get a positive result before my DD turns 2 in November, does anyone else feel the pressure to get pregnant again as you can see your DC growing up and getting bigger every day?

Kt1991 · 20/09/2013 18:28

Metalhead I must admit I did do one earlier and again BFN, so will test in the morning probably Sunday/Monday although will probably say the same. lucyjojo test I did on Wednesday was in the morning, but possibly too soon? When I was on the pill because of my PCOS too I was getting a period every couple of months, so I’m worried it’s going to be the same off the pill too. Last period before I came off the pill was mid May! (came off Mid July) Metalhead so I think I will have to get some ovulation tests to check I am deffo ovulating.
