Anyone about to start/just started TTC number 2?

mrsm22 · 03/09/2013 20:35

Hi ladies, I am 31 and have one DS already. After my DS I went back on the pill but have decided to stop the pill and start TTC baby number 2 and wondered if anyone was also just about to start trying or just started and we could follow each other and share as we go along. I literally have stopped my pill last week for the 7 day break, and am meant to start taking it again tomorrow but obviously won't be, so I am very literally just starting to try for number two but am very excited! That's why I thought it might be nice to go through it with other people who are also trying. I have heard some people say that after your first baby you are more fertile but I am not sure so I am really not sure how long it will take this time. Does it usually not take as long second time round? It has taken a lot for me to decide for definite that I'd like another as I had an awful time in labour with forceps and 3rd degree tears etc which really scared me and must admit I'm terrified of another scary birth experience.

Congrats windy!
I'll wait a month I think then and if no AF then poas (just in case) and if no bfp then check for ovulation. Took 2 months trying first time but as we're still bf plus solids I know my chances might be lower..

utopian99 · 14/09/2013 20:21

There's a lot of abbreviations in that last post!

donnas1984 · 15/09/2013 14:04

TMI ALARM!!
The past 2 days I have had major ewcm like tonnes of the stuff coming out like the cervical plug before you go into labour! I dont remember this the last time we were ttc? But opks are neg.
I know ive only just came off the implant but 4 yes 4 of my bump buddies from first time round are already pregnant!
Wasn't going to obsess but looks like its already stared!

BetterNotBitter · 15/09/2013 18:06

donnas same happened to me but I had positive ovulation test the next day.

One thing possibly re ovulation tests, it says on my tests never to take them first thing (def not first urine of the day) and generally to wait till after 10am. It also says not to go crazy with drinking fluids before you take them as the more diluted your urine is the less ovulation will show up.

You probably already know this, sorry! Just thought I'd share anyway as I'd assumed same protocol as pregnancy tests and the day I got a positive ovulation result around 11am, I'd had a negative at 7am the same day!

BetterNotBitter · 15/09/2013 18:08

Also donnas I was alarmed re ewcm as it was more than I'd had for my plug before labour!! I know we both came off the implant so I'm wondering if that's what causes the volume?! Wierd!

donnas1984 · 15/09/2013 18:33

betternotbitter thank you for replying ill do another test tonight and hopefully get a positive results. Think im more worked as ive had no bleeding since the implant came out and most people seem to have had something. suppose it is a waiting game in the end! fingers crossed for you and for everyone else ttc xxxSmile Smile

Hi everyone. I'd like to join if I can, I just got my AF back after having my DS (9m now) and its got me thinking about TTC #2. It took us 18m to get pg with DS, so I'm hoping this time will be much quicker. You are meant to be more fertile for second babies, but I think only for the first year. Also, you can be more fertile right after stopping the pill, so if you want to get pg ASAP you can try dtd every other day even before you get your first AF.

Unfortunately DH isn't quite on board with TTC yet, but I figure I've got till the end of AF to convince him. He definitely wants 2 DC, it's just DS has only been sleeping for 2 weeks now, so he's worried at the potential exhaustion of two! He definately wants to dtd though, he's had hardly any for the last year ;)

Congratulations winston :)

Metalhead · 15/09/2013 19:50

That's interesting re the ovulation tests BetterNotBitter, thanks for the tip! I haven't used them before so probably would have assumed you do them first thing like pregnancy tests, but will do them later on in the day now.

donnas1984 · 15/09/2013 20:04

stacks welcome! me and dh were 2 years ttc dd she will be 2 in November and im broody as hell lol! fingers crossed we all get bfps soon xx

mrsm22 · 16/09/2013 10:56

Welcome Stacks! My DS will be 2 at end of December and it will be 2 weeks on weds that I've been off the pill for just two weeks. Interesting what you say about possibly getting pregnant before first AF. Me and DH are DTD every day znd have been for the last two weeks/10 days and I feel in limbo waiting for AF. I'm worried that I'm not ovulating until I get AF but have also read that you can conceive after coming off the pill before your period comes so who knows?! I am wondering how long to leave it to do a test, should I give it 8 weeks of coming off the pill if I don't get AF to do a pregnancy test, just I'm case?
I'm sure your DH will come round to the idea too. We also would like two DC and our DS sleeps in our bed and we are always tired. I think it just comes with being parents. Good luck to you as we'll x

Donnas1984- also feeling really broody especially as it feels like winter is coming now and all the Christmas stuff starting to be in the shops etc. I was about to have my DS at Xmas (2011) so it reminds me.

SoMuchFruit · 16/09/2013 11:28

Congratulations Windy that's so exciting!

metalhead - this non-regular cycle business would have your mind fried. I am also trying to be smart and work out the cross over days of all the various length cycles. I am trying not to be obsessive but it's creeping up on me.

Everywhere there are pregnant people and in an insult to injury way, this morning the tactless bitch lovely lady in the shop was telling me about the reasons I shouldn't wait to long to have another child and how LO must be lonely.. I wanted to shout 'I'M BLOODY TRYING' at her. Unreasonable, I know.

mrsm22 · 16/09/2013 11:55

SoMuchFruit - it will happen when we're not all stressing/thinking about it. My DS is 21 months at the end of this month and I get really annoyed when people say things like 'do you think you'll have any more ' in that way. I get asked every time I see my nan so last week I told her in secret that we were trying. Just to stop the asking!

donnas1984 · 16/09/2013 12:26

mrsm22 You are totally correct! I fell with my dd the same month I got my referral to the infertility clinic. I had given up all hope! im just hoping to get my cycle in order soon!

Metalhead · 16/09/2013 13:56

I've pre-empted nosy questions by telling my parents we're not having any more! (This was back when I genuinely felt like that though).

I've had to take the day off work as I seemingly pulled a muscle in my back trying to get off the sofa this morning and couldn't move or stand up straight for about 4 hours! The pain has eased a bit now, but I still feel like I need a zimmer frame to move around... not very conducive to ttc! At least I'm still waiting for AF to pass, so we're not in prime baby-making territory at the moment.

mrsm22 when I came off the pill after many years I had a period after about a month, then fell pregnant in my second cycle. I would just wait say 5 weeks and then take a test if AF doesn't show, but don't be disappointed if its negative.

utopian99 · 16/09/2013 15:05

Hi Dec thread buddy!

Interesting what you say about the chance of getting pgbbefore AF. Has only been a weekish since I ditched the pill but would love to skip AF altogether if possible...

Stacks · 16/09/2013 16:43

Back when I was TTC for DS there were a few people who's dr had actually put them on the pill to aid getting pregnant! I've no idea how or why it might work, and it's not mainstream practice.. Still, you're in with a chance even if your AF hasn't shown up yet. Don't get your hopes too high though.
I think I'm going to go down the temperature tracking route. I did it with DS, and found it massively reduced my stress levels. My temp stays steady from AF to ovulation, then spikes (proving I ovulated, and can stop dtd), and stays high till the day AF shows up when it drops again. If you're pg it stays high :)

Stacks · 16/09/2013 19:46

I ran out of nap time earlier, so had to cut my post short. Wanted to say also thank you for the welcome :)

I don't think I'll tell anyone we're TTC this time, though I think it helps that friends and family aren't really expecting it yet as DS still seems so young. It's a really personal thing to talk about and ask someone, I don't know why it's so prevalent. I always find it a bit like being asked "are you having sex often?" Which from parents/grandparents is just weird!

Metal - I hope your back is fully recovered for dtd. Sofas are dangerous things ;)

Utopian - hey I'm glad I'm not the only dec mum thinking of another :)

Windywinston · 16/09/2013 21:00

Thanks all for your congratulations. I'm still in shock, I honestly thought it would take years like last time. It just goes to show there's no rhyme or reason to TTC, we just have to keep DTD!
I'll keep popping in if that's ok, hopefully there'll be lots more BFPs soon.
Metalhead I hope you had a good holiday.
mrsm22 those Anti D injections don't sound like fun, but at least this time you'll know what to expect I guess.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you all, its the least I can do when you brought me such luck.

Metalhead · 17/09/2013 09:24

Thanks Stacks, feeling much better this morning so hopefully everything will be back in working order for my fertile window!

Windy I had a lovely holiday, thank you, only slightly marred by the arrival of AF on the last day (but at least I didn't have to feel guilty about the wine I'd drunk...)

Stacks · 17/09/2013 09:40

DH said this morning he thinks we should start trying for dc2 this month!! Though he also said we'll stop trying around Christmas time, and start again next year if we're not successful. We definately don't want another Christmas baby (DS was born on Christmas Day), but we'll see when we get there.

I wonder if we'll be able to manage dtd eod we've only managed once since I was pg with DS. My cycles could be all over the place for a while as I'm still bf DS quite a bit.

mrsm22 · 17/09/2013 11:22

Hi everyone,
Stacks- Wow, Xmas day baby! What was your due date with your DS? My due date was 16th Dec and my DS was born on the 28th Dec, so just missed Xmas day but before New Years. I think having a baby around Xmas is lovely although if I got pregnant by Xmas this year I think a September baby would be nice. My bday is on Sunday so a new baby would have a bday the same month. Great news that your DH has come round to the idea of TTC!

Metalhead - how's the back? Are you back at work?
Windy- we are all so happy for you and would love you to keep popping in, whenever you like to let us know how you're getting on. How are you feeling?
I agree with Stacks about telling people you are TTC, it is a personal thing and I think it adds pressure. I haven't told anyone. Well I told my nan but only because she will have forgotten already. Two weeks tomorrow for me with no AF but I think it is early days.

Metalhead · 17/09/2013 12:06

Good news Stacks - do you think DH was persuaded by the prospect of more bedroom action...? Grin

I know what you mean about not wanting a similar due date, if we conceive this month DC2 would be due pretty much bang on DD's birthday! But you can't let that stop you I think, this could be the month for us after all.

Yes I'm back at work mrsm22, much better than yesterday though my back still gets very stiff and achy when I sit down for too long or move around too much... luckily I work from home so don't have to commute and can take a short break whenever I need to!

utopian99 · 17/09/2013 16:14

Great news stacks, good luck with DTD! Dh and I have been finding inventive ways to manage around ds' sleeping patterns anyway, but since coming off the pill I seem be thinking about it more (not in connection with ttc, just the sake of it.) Is the pill known for suppressing libido?

windy would be good to hear your updates, maybe you'll be our good luck knocked up fairy. Smile

Ds was December 27th so we definitely don't want another Christmas baby. It was nice for us but I feel birthdays might be harsh on him. Will stop TTC from Jan to april if unsuccessful I think. Hmm, that sounds like a lot written down..

donnas1984 · 17/09/2013 18:04

utopian99 I feel the same since coming off the implant, ive even been sending dh some cheeky txt msgs at work Blush and I've not done that for years lol! im hoping Af doesn't show its been 12 days since I got it removed and no symptoms or anything! most ppl seem to have had spotting or something but zilch! early days I know but you can help over think things xxx
