Anyone about to start/just started TTC number 2?

mrsm22 · 03/09/2013 20:35

Hi ladies, I am 31 and have one DS already. After my DS I went back on the pill but have decided to stop the pill and start TTC baby number 2 and wondered if anyone was also just about to start trying or just started and we could follow each other and share as we go along. I literally have stopped my pill last week for the 7 day break, and am meant to start taking it again tomorrow but obviously won't be, so I am very literally just starting to try for number two but am very excited! That's why I thought it might be nice to go through it with other people who are also trying. I have heard some people say that after your first baby you are more fertile but I am not sure so I am really not sure how long it will take this time. Does it usually not take as long second time round? It has taken a lot for me to decide for definite that I'd like another as I had an awful time in labour with forceps and 3rd degree tears etc which really scared me and must admit I'm terrified of another scary birth experience.

Well, that's the annoying bit utopian. I average a 29.5 day cycle so I generally work out AF's arrival on 29/30 day cycle. So if she hasn't shown up by 11/10 I will think about testing.

I would like to be a POAS addict but I fear for my sanity if I start down that route so I generally only test when AF appears to be good and late.

Metalhead · 13/09/2013 11:15

SoMuchFruit you sound a lot like me! AF got me too today, about 4 days earlier than I expected. But my cycles have also varied in length by almost 10 days over the last year, with the average being 35. I've been taking the same approach of trying to DTD every other day and calculating when I should ovulate based on my longest, shortest and average cycles, but as this doesn't seem to have worked so far I think I will give OPKs a go this next cycle. 'Tis all very frustrating...

BetterNotBitter · 13/09/2013 12:34

I just got a positive ovulation test! So relieved as thought it could take months as only had implant removed a week ago!!

I was sure I was last night (major signs) but test confirms it. Hurrah!

fifi669 · 13/09/2013 13:09

Once the implant is out you're back to normal straight away, there's no delay

mrsm22 · 13/09/2013 19:53

Hi all, how is everyone doing? Looking forward to the weekend?
Kt1991- nice to hear from you again. I hope you're starting to feel a bit better?
Lucyjojo- my DS will be 2 in December and I'm same as you, would like to be pregnant by Xmas so that I'd give birth September next year ish and before my gorgeous DS turns 3. I've always thought a 2 to 3 year gap is nice (although age gaps don't matter at all, just being blessed with two healthy children is what matters).

Somuchfruit - sorry that AF has shown her ugly head! Hope you are ok? You sound very organised with your dates. Is it better to DTD every day or every other? I've noticed most of our gang on here say every other day but I wondered if there was more chance with DTD every day? I know it's not always possible!
Pencilsandprams- lovely to hear from you again! How are you? I hate the waiting too! I'm still waiting for my first period to come and am just praying it comes soon so that I know everything is ok and hormones out of my system. I know what you mean about going bonkers. I went shopping today with my mum and my DS and I treated myself to a new winter coat and two new jumpers. The whole time we were out shopping, I kept thinking 'if I get pregnant, will I fit in the jumpers, and will the coat be big enough?!' Mental when I'm probably not even nearly pregnant!
Donnas1984- did you say you had a friend who fell pregnant without even getting AF? That definitely gives me hope!

Hey I am also ttc no.2 , my dd is 4 months ! I may be crazy but it feels right for us ! Good luck to everyone :)

mrsm22 · 13/09/2013 21:00

Hi Nocturne123- gosh yes you must be crazy! Only joking, if that's what is right for you then that's great. Wishing you all the best of luck!

Betternotbitter- well done and very happy for you with your positive ovulation test. Can you or anyone else explain what the ovulation kits are and what you do etc? I know what they are for obviously but I don't know what you do, is it something you wee on like a pregnancy test and does it say yes or no sort of thing or does it tell you what day and time? Sorry for sounding thick but I've never even seen one.

OP posts:
lucyjojo · 13/09/2013 21:46

I am not so sure about the ovulation kits either, so some advice and info would be much appreciated! I think it's time to start using them too, AF got me today, I pretty much knew it was coming as I had all of the usual symptoms in the lead up, but its still never nice to see your suspicions confirmed! That brings me round to cycle 3 now, perhaps its meant to be this month - if I do get a bfp in October my due date will be my birthday!

mrsm22 I know what you mean about age gaps, I've been obsessing over what is the perfect age gap for about 6 months! But obviously a healthy bouncing baby is all that matters in the end really.

mrsm22 · 13/09/2013 22:20

Lucyjojo - totally agree, and hopefully one or some of our 'gang' will give us some helpful info about these ovulation kits. I too would like to avoid if possible but mainly because I assume I'm not ovulating until I get AF and from what I've read it could be months til I get AF after stopping the pill. I absolutely hate waiting for anything.

Having looked them up online the kits look like poas type things which measure a hormone that spikes with ovulation.. The ones I've seen just shows pos/neg, not day or anything though, but I've not bought or tried yet as figured no point for a month after coming off the pill..

BetterNotBitter · 14/09/2013 08:01

Yeah, I use wee on a stick ones! There are other ways you can do it, I've seen lots about thermometers but I dont use those ways!

The ones I have detect the hormone that you have a surge of just before you ovulate & say that once you have a positive you have 24-36hrs to conceive. I'm sure there'll be different ones around.

I wasn't initially wanting to go down the ovulation testing route but my doctor suggested doing it for the first few months until I get track of my cycle/it regulates.

Hope that helps!

Kt1991 · 14/09/2013 08:27

mrsm22 thank you feeling a lot better now. Can get back to DTD! Waiting to see if AF will get me tommorow though. Have you had any symptoms to indicate your AF might be coming at all? I was the same kind of glad I got AF last month after coming off the pill so I could work out my cycles.

mrsm22 · 14/09/2013 10:54

Thank you Utopian99, the ovulation kits sound straight forward so that's good. Like you, in only recently off the pill (11 days) now so like you, it's probably a bit soon.
KT1991- no symptoms yet to show that AF might be on her way. I'm a bit worried now because I came off the pill in August when trying for my DS (August 2010) and I conceived beginning of march 2011, but from coming off the pill in the August it was about 5 months til I had a period. Hope it's not the same this time. I won't be going back on any hormonal contraceptive again.

mrsm22 · 14/09/2013 11:02

KT1991- meant to say I'm glad you're feeling better. You came off the pill mid July was it? Can I ask when you first got AF after stopping the pill?

Thanks also Betternotbitter- I've not even seen an ovulation kit. Hoping I get my AF soon as otherwise getting an ovulation kit might be a bit pointless.

So ladies, I've had no more bleeding, and two BFPs!!!!!
I'm still in shock, after last time I was prepared for a long wait again, so this has completely floored me, in a good way.
I think this thread must have been lucky for me.
I hope you all get your BFPs soon xxxxxxxx

farmerswifey · 14/09/2013 13:26

Huge Congratulations Windywinston - Really pleased for you! Lets hope we're all joining you over on the anti-natal forum soon :)

Metalhead · 14/09/2013 14:09

Many congratulations Windywinston - I thought it sounded positive from what you described!

Hopefully this will be the first of many BFPs on this thread.

mrsm22 · 14/09/2013 16:00

Huge Congratulations Windywinston! That's amazing news and I'm very happy for you. I also hope we'll be joining you soon. Please do keep in touch with the rest of us on here, we'd hate to lose you. xxxxx

BetterNotBitter · 14/09/2013 17:06

Yay!! Our first BFP!! Congratulations!!

mrsm22 · 14/09/2013 17:31

BetterNotBitter - hopefully now we'll all follow suit and watch each of us join WindyWinston as we get more BFP's and we can support each other through the next phase, when we get there x I think it's lovely as well as Windywinston took so long TTC first time round. Just goes to show to can never tell how long it's going to take.

Ovulation sticks ordered, so I'm ready to get serious once AF has buggered off!

Incidentally, AF seems to have become much more painful since we've started ttc - anyone else had this? I used to be ok most months, cramps of course but nothing too bad, but the last two months I've had to take paracetamol and ibuprofen for the first two days just to be able to function at all!

Kt1991 · 14/09/2013 18:28

mrsm22 Hope its not that long a wait for you this time! Got my period exactly a month later! Was suprised to get one though, as I have PCOS so never have regular periods anyway. Hoping thats my last one for a while though! Wink. Congrats Windywinston!

Kt1991 · 14/09/2013 18:29

Metalhead Yes mine was really bad last month, really didn’t feel like going to work because of the pain! Must be because were not using any contraception.

mrsm22 · 14/09/2013 19:43

Thanks Kt1991, that's really good that you got AF exactly a month after coming off the pill. Let's hope I'm the same, should be 2nd October if that's the case for me. I'd be really happy if she comes that soon like yours. I'd also agree with Metalhead, periods will probably be worse not on any contraception. If you think that's why a lot of people go on the pill initially, to help the pain and heavy periods. Good luck to everyone, we've had some good luck today from Windywinston so perhaps we've created a lucky thread x
