Anyone about to start/just started TTC number 2?

mrsm22 · 03/09/2013 20:35

Hi ladies, I am 31 and have one DS already. After my DS I went back on the pill but have decided to stop the pill and start TTC baby number 2 and wondered if anyone was also just about to start trying or just started and we could follow each other and share as we go along. I literally have stopped my pill last week for the 7 day break, and am meant to start taking it again tomorrow but obviously won't be, so I am very literally just starting to try for number two but am very excited! That's why I thought it might be nice to go through it with other people who are also trying. I have heard some people say that after your first baby you are more fertile but I am not sure so I am really not sure how long it will take this time. Does it usually not take as long second time round? It has taken a lot for me to decide for definite that I'd like another as I had an awful time in labour with forceps and 3rd degree tears etc which really scared me and must admit I'm terrified of another scary birth experience.

Amazing! !! Congratulations mrsm. Is there a pic on fb?

mrsm22 · 21/10/2013 21:13

Hi everyone, sorry have been getting DS off to sleep and have felt very sick tonight after tea. I had jets in my mouth for about ten mins and thought I was going to be sick but I haven't been (thankfully as I hate being sick). Stacks - have you seen your doctor yet or got a midwife appointment? Have you felt sick or anything? I'm terrified of getting morning sickness as I never had it with DA so don't really know what it's like. It just feels so strange, I'm still really in shock because I swear I didn't think for a second that I could be. So how far could I be? I had a withdrawal bleed after the pill at end of August and stopped taking the pill on 4th sept so that's nearly 7 weeks I've been off the pill but I tested if you remember on 7th October and got that really faint line so now don't know if that was a BFP. Funnily enough when I was at work last week I found my trousers felt quite tight and felt u had out a bit of weight on so what so we all think?
I'm sorry I haven't put a pic on FB yet Hungry, I don't seem to be able to. I've got a test in the bathroom ready for tomorrow morning. Will do it first wee and eyebrows get straight on here. I'm dying to tell my mum but DH wants us to keep it secret until 12 weeks and after the first scan x

mrsm22 · 21/10/2013 21:19

Hungry - I will test again in the morning and then ring the doctors. I think the bleed must have been a show like I had with DS, what else could it have been ? I doubt they'd send me for a scan x

Mrs, my friend did the same as you and it turned out she'd miscarried her DD's twin. Not that I'm saying it IS that, but if you bleed in early pregnancy they potentially will scan you just to make sure all is OK.

We definitely need a photo on FB though.

Who's next? Toothpaste? This is a bloody lucky thread. :-)

mrsm22 · 21/10/2013 21:36

Hungry - you have worried me about the bleeding. I hope it doesn't mean anything is wrong x

OP posts:
mrsm22 · 21/10/2013 21:46

Ok Hungry I'll ring and try see the doctor tomorrow. The bleed I had came after sex too. I have only been off the pill for 6 weeks, I don't reckon I could be more than 4 weeks, maybe 3 to 4 weeks at most. Will the doctor be able to refer me for a scan? I'm also rhesus negative blood type and my DS is positive so I will have to be careful with bleeds as I will need that anti d injection but I'm sure it's only after 12 weeks where there is a risk. Who was it that said that the fetus doesn't attach until so many weeks?
Hungry could be you next! I'll be on here first thing in the morning and updating you xxx maybe I should have bought one of those good tests that says hoe many weeks you are.

Wow congratulations to stacks and Mrsm! What wonderful news. Mrsm I'd mention the bleed to the dr just in case, but try not to worry. I had an early bleed with DD and as you know I had what I thought was a period before I realised I was pregnant this time round and all seems fine so far.
On a separate note, I just read that you got married at Langdale Chase, I went to a wedding there a few years ago, it's such a stunning venue!
I love that you've started a book club. I'm waiting to read The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks at the moment. My mum recommended it to me, but it sounds a bit heavy going and reading makes me feel sick (which is great as I have to read a lot for work). Has anyone read it? I think if I start reading anything serious I'll just zone out or fall asleep.
Good luck to everyone else, this thread is looking pretty good so far. I still can't get my head around my BFP after TTC for 2 yrs with DD. I hope everyone else's BFPs are not too far away.

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 21/10/2013 22:12

I was on my phone earlier so just turned computer on so I can do a proper. Oh. Em. Geeeee. That is AMAZING mrsm Grin It's your thread so it's only right that you got your BFP pretty early on. Donna - I'm glad things are going well for you too.

It doesn't sound like you need another test to confirm, but hey, if you've got another stick... Smile

Re scan, they sometimes send you for an early scan if needed. I got one automatically with DS because of my previous miscarriage and because of only having one tube they wanted to be absolutely sure it wasn't ectopic. If you want reassurance, asking the doc for blood tests might be easier. They do two tests three days apart to check that hcg levels are rising. I presume it is cheaper for the nhs that scanning so that might be an option for you.

Welcome peri Smile

IBelieveInEngels · 22/10/2013 06:24

Just took what I thought was the formality pg test...mw told me to take one 1 week after mc to be sure...and still bfp, so now am really confused!

I don't want to get my hopes up...perhaps the hormones are just lingering?
Going to give mw a call.

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 22/10/2013 07:14

Interesting ibeleive. Was it you who said you miscarried last Tuesday? That always sounded a little strange. Was it just one day of bleeding? (Sorry for prying) In my experience, mcs take weeks not days (but I appreciate it is different for everyone) I would definitely request blood tests or a scan in your situation.

Toothpastekissesno2 · 22/10/2013 08:03

I know this is not great to hear but my friend was getting a positive two weeks after her mc. I think the body can take a while to recover. Anyway it's worth checking for sure. I hope you are ok.

mrsm22 · 22/10/2013 08:58

Another BFP this morning and going to see the doctor at 9.30am so will report after xxx

Ahhhhh Mrsm! How amazing and exciting for you!!! Waiting impatiently to see this photo! Your symptoms have been pretty strange for a while now haven't they, now we know why! Its hard to tell how pg you will be, best bet is to get yourself down to the doctor and see what they think, if you find they're not very helpful maybe you could book a priority app with a mw? hello to the other preggers!!! (waves) bring us lots of good luck!

Toothpastekissesno2 · 22/10/2013 09:14

Mrs I would also buy one of those digi tests as atleast they give bit of an idea re weeks - goodluck

HungryHorace · 22/10/2013 10:18

Yay, Mrs! Good luck. :-)

IBelieve, I know of people who've had positive tests for more than a week also. I agree with speaking to the MW. Make sure you look after yourself.

IBelieveInEngels · 22/10/2013 10:39

I think it's just the hormones lingering as mc was the same as when I had before (one day of heavyish bleeding with 'bits' and cramping and then a few days of light brown discharge). Only 6 weeks so didn't expect it to be heavy.

last time i took a pg test 2 weeks after the mc and it was negative.

Line was much stronger than the one I had 2 weeks ago but my pg symptom (nausea) has disappeared.

Gave mw a ring and she's going to send me an appt for a scan this week to see what's going on.

Feel like I've already done my crying for that bean so not getting my hopes up.

mrsm22 · 22/10/2013 10:58

Hi all,
Well I have done another test this morning and very clear BFP. I got in with a doctor who was very unhelpful , didn't predict my due date or anything. She wasn't too concerned about the bleed as she said it was probably implantation bleeding and she said I would probably not two weeks on still be getting a BFP so she wasn't concerned about miscarriage . As my blood type is rhesus negative bleeding can be dangerous and I need to have anti D injection after any bleed I have (which I know from my first pregnancy as you can't risk mixing your blood if it's rhesus negative with baby's blood if there's a chance that baby might be positive blood type). Obviously there's no way of knowing baby's blood type til after birth but they give you an anti d injection as precaution to try prevent the blood types mixing. I apologise if anyone already knows all this however if anyone has any more knowledge of all this please do share. So there is a slight risk about my blood possibly having mixed with baby's during my bleed two weeks ago. I'm sure I once read that bleeding only matters after 12 weeks and that before 12 weeks anti d is not required but I don't know for definite so I am a bit worried. I've got my first appointment with the midwife on weds 6th November but the doctor is going to speak to her and see if she needs to see me any sooner. Everything should be ok I hope , just a bit complicated due to my blood type. Anyway on way back from doctors I bought an expensive digital test and it says I am 3 weeks plus so I and the doctor thinks I am probably 6 weeks.

IBelieve - sorry I hope you don't think I have been concerned just with myself. I think you could well be still pregnant.
Lucy and ATruth - thank you ladies, I am absolutely thrilled xxx how are you both?

OP posts:
IBelieveInEngels · 22/10/2013 11:29

No worries mrs - you have plenty to think about yourself!

Windywinston · 22/10/2013 12:36

Mrsm I'm so pleased for you. It sounds like your bleed was probably an implantation bleed. Dr Google insists that implantation bleeding cannot be more than a bit of spotting, which is why i dismissed my bleed (a whole day of full heavy AF and usual AF cramps and 2 days of brown spotting), but mine was definitely implantation bleeding. I don't know what the risks are of mixing blood during an implantation, but my instinct is it should be pretty low. I hope so and am keeping my fx for you.
Ibelieve, this could also be what you experienced, but I understand you not wanting to get your hopes up, sometimes it's easier to control expectations (if you can). I hope you get a scan appointment soon and get some answers one way or another, I know that the not knowing is agonising.
