Anyone about to start/just started TTC number 2?

1000 replies

mrsm22 · 03/09/2013 20:35

Hi ladies, I am 31 and have one DS already. After my DS I went back on the pill but have decided to stop the pill and start TTC baby number 2 and wondered if anyone was also just about to start trying or just started and we could follow each other and share as we go along. I literally have stopped my pill last week for the 7 day break, and am meant to start taking it again tomorrow but obviously won't be, so I am very literally just starting to try for number two but am very excited! That's why I thought it might be nice to go through it with other people who are also trying. I have heard some people say that after your first baby you are more fertile but I am not sure so I am really not sure how long it will take this time. Does it usually not take as long second time round? It has taken a lot for me to decide for definite that I'd like another as I had an awful time in labour with forceps and 3rd degree tears etc which really scared me and must admit I'm terrified of another scary birth experience.

Ooh, I missed about your POAS, Stacks!

Can we have a tandem POAS thread in the morning?!

donnas1984 · 15/10/2013 17:48

Hey everyone on the mobile so its hard to see everyone's updates. Stacks fx for your bfp also can I join the fb page?
On holiday just now and ms has started I think? neither up or down with dd but I can't move without feeling sick can think about food without feeling sick... is this what ms is like or do I have a bug haha xx

Metalhead · 15/10/2013 18:30

Hi, thanks all for your kind words! I didn't mean to sound so negative in my last post; I don't really think I'm a terrible mum, it's just that I have to work quite hard at it whereas to some people it seems to come more naturally.

Will look into creating a 'fake' FB profile to join the group when I get a minute.

FX for those poas tomorrow morning! I'm getting impatient again already and it's only CD3... Everything seems to go sooo slowly at the moment, it feels like I'm constantly wading through treacle.

Metalhead · 15/10/2013 18:32

Oh, and that might well be morning sickness donnas! With DD it wasn't so much morning as all day sickness for me... lovely! Hope you have a nice holiday anyway.

mrsm22 · 15/10/2013 19:48

Donna - I never had ms when pregnant with my DS but I'd say it definitely sounds like it, I hate feeling or being sick so I hope you're ok. Have a fab holiday, where have you gone to? Definitely join our FB page please so we can see your scan pics etc. We are all very excited for you. x
Stacks- are you going to poas tomorrow? If so, wish you all the luck in the world for a BFP!
Metal - I'm getting impatient too. Every time we DTD I am thinking in my head, will it be this time! It's so annoying having to wait. I just wish it would happen soon, it would be the best Xmas present.
ATruth - are you poas tomorrow too with Stacks !
Where's Hungry tonight ? How are you Hungry?

hi, can I join? I'm 28 and my husband is 35. We have a son who is 2.2 years old and have been trying to conceive (stopped taking the pill) for 3 months, nothing yet!! Also had a traumatic birth first time around so has taken a while to come round to the idea of a second. Still worried about the birth to be honest, but going to give it a go!!!

HungryHorace · 15/10/2013 20:15

Mrs, I'm here, lying on the sofa with DD feeling sorry for myself :-( Do you think it is tiredness causing my sickness / dizziness / headaches?

I need to do chores but feel like I'll keel over so have decided against it. :-/ Not like me at all.

Donna, PM me your name / email address so I can find you on FB so I can add you. And yes, that sounds like MS (ha! Misleading name!).

HungryHorace · 15/10/2013 20:16

And hi to Spider!

Fx you get your BFP soon. :-)

Toothpastekissesno2 · 15/10/2013 20:23

Hi all - lots to catch up on! I have just had the smiley face on the opk so have sent a pic to my dh. I think he might be staying at work now! Haha
I am Soo impatient too. My cycle is 35 days plus so feels like so much pressure when the tiny window happens! Where is everyone else in their cycle? Mrs u are in the o time I assume? Xx

donnas1984 · 15/10/2013 20:40

Mrsm ive gone to a place called Ribby Hall Village its quite near Blackpool so were taking dd to sea world tomorrow. I'm from the west coast of Scotland so wasnt to far a drive.

Hungry uve pm'd you.
Been sick again so im now off pizza steakpie and chilli. running out of dinners hahaxx

mrsm22 · 15/10/2013 20:50

Hi Hungry - I would defo say that tiredness is causing you the headaches and dizziness! My DS has always been a bad sleeper and honestly I don't know how I used to get through the day on literally no sleep. I still get up now on barely any sleep and I don't know how I get through the day. Think my body must be immune to no sleep now. When my DS was the same age as your DD I found it really hard bring knackered all the time and felt like a zombie. My advice would be to eat a bit more to fuel your body when you're tired and sleep or at least rest when you can. Not easy I know! x
Donna - have a lovely holiday, sorry about your sickness. Is it arrowroot biscuits people suggest or ginger? I've heard ginger biscuits are good for ms x
Hi Toothpaste - yes get DTD and fingers crossed!
Spider - hi and welcome! Yes do join our gang! I am just turned 32 and like you have come off the pill to try for number 2. I stopped my pill beginning of sept so this is my second month of TTC. Like you, I also had an awful birth experience which totally traumatised me and scared me to try again but now am willing to risk it again. My DS was born healthy and well which is the main thing but I'd hate to have another scary birth. My DS will be 2 at the end of December.

Donna - my DH is from Scotland.

OP posts:
Metalhead · 15/10/2013 20:53

Sorry to hear you're feeling rubbish Hungry - I always feel absolutely dreadful when I'm sleep deprived.

Hello and welcome to Spider!

Toothpaste I've also got quite long cycles (though they have been getting a little shorter recently), it's so frustrating isn't it?

Bit annoyed with DH tonight as we'd said we'd cut out alcohol during the week to boost our chances, and yet he's had a beer yesterday and today (it was just the one, but still...)

mrsm22 · 15/10/2013 21:04

Hi Toothpaste - sorry just gone back and read your comment. Will it be o time for me? It's hard to tell as I don't know how many weeks it will be til my next AF but I was looking at the calendar earlier thinking it could be this week. How long is ovulation period usually?

OP posts:
mrsm22 · 15/10/2013 21:06

Toothpaste - pressed send too soon. I am waiting for my DH to come home from work too, will have to try and DTD every day this week just in case it is that window x

Hi all sorry for being absent but ds has had a horrible ear infection so busy making him better poor thing, and haven't DTD for at least a week or feels like it, rarggg

Would like to join a fb group, hope I get a scan to share eventually, 4 weeks+ and still no AF. Sad

stacks eeep when is your poas? There are few from our Dec babies lot now, I feel left behind!

Toothpastekissesno2 · 15/10/2013 21:21

Are u doing opk or trying to do less pressurised without? I thought I would be all casual and see what happens but after month one I'm already peeing on sticks...so not good at this released see what happens thing! Grin So now I'm trying to dtd every night this week. I'm sure dh is getting nervous of my stalking him! I will leave him alone come the weekend! It's different second time round I'm finding as we don't usually have sex as much as we used to so feels bit more like we are trying trying if that makes sense!
My sis is going through ivf and has just had two embryos implanted so it's strange with us trying at same time in such different ways.
Fx we have a cpl of bfps in this group soon!
How long did everyone take with no 1? X

mrsm22 · 15/10/2013 21:48

Hi Toothpaste - I feel the same, we definitely don't DTD as much as we used to before DS so I know what you mean, it does feel more like you are trying trying! When trying for my DS I came off the pill and was pregnant 7 months later. I don't think that's bad after over a decade on the pill but I don't know if your first is anything to go by, is it usually an indication? Oh Toothpaste, are you going to join the FB group? If so, you should pm Hungry, the leader of our FB group! It's just a bit of fun x I'm not using OPK's or anything yet, just trying to DTD as much as poss and hope for the best!

mrsm22 · 15/10/2013 21:50

Hi Utopian - it was 4 weeks and a couple of days for me and I got some bleeding and had what I think was a light first period! Hopefully you'll get AF soon ( I mean that in the sense of you'll know you've ovulated etc). Is your DS any better?

OP posts:
ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 15/10/2013 22:05

Welcome newbies Grin

mrsm22 · 15/10/2013 22:09

Hi ATruth - So sorry for your BFN! We've had a few of those now ( me included two weeks ago if you recall)! I hope you're ok. Try not to be too disappointed, I think we all want it a bit too much. x I'm going to bed soon as got work tomorrow sadly!

OP posts:
ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 15/10/2013 22:13

I'm ok. Just catching up on the bake off...

mrsm22 · 15/10/2013 22:26

Don't be too disheartened x speak tomo

OP posts:
HungryHorace · 16/10/2013 02:37

I really think an FMU POAS is needed this early, ATruth. And if you have late implantation you could be pregnant without enough hcg to get a positive test. If, for instance, you have a 10 day luteal phase but don't implant until 12DPO, you won't get a positive test until 4-5 days after your period is due. Which is why early tests only work if you implant around 6-8 DPO on average length cycles.

Utopian, PM me your name / email address and I'll add you on FB. :-)

We failed to DTD before DH went to work, but just did it now! Dedicated.

We are coming up to my fertile period so need to attempt every day from Friday. Like Toothpaste I'm on the hideously expensive OPKs already and will start using these on Sat. I like the reassurance of a smiley face!

I was on some form of contraception (pill / injection) for 17 years before TTC DD. I got pregnant in cycle number 5, which I feel was pretty good as I was almost 36 then.

I'm 37 next month so will see what happens this time.

I managed to scare myself about secondary infertility the other night. Must step away from Google at 4am!

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 16/10/2013 07:23

That is dedicated hungry!

I haven't poas today as the cramps are back so expecting af later. Just got up nice and early with ds so been enjoying lazy breakfast and Bob the Builder rather than rushing around like crazy like normal.

Have a good day all x
