9 days late for AF but 2 x BFN. Anyone else been through this?

I am now 9 days late but have no BFP Sad
I did a pg test early morning on 3rd Jan = BFN. I then did a second pg rest after work on 4th = BFN. Both tests were 'first response - 6 days earlier'.
I'm now very confused and worried. Really thought I was pg but now not so sure.
I have no AF symptoms either. Very tired and struggling to concentrate, bloated stomach, occasional cramping and have been peeing quite a bit. Have felt a teensy bit queasy occasionally but why the BFN?
Has anyone been through this and got a BFP eventually?

I had two -ve tests when I was pregnant with DS. I went to the doctor because I had all the normal pg symptoms (queasy, sore boobs etc) and she simply shrugged off the test results and said if you have all the symptoms then you are pregnant. I took a test just before my 12 week scan because, although by then I was starting swell a bit, I was still worried that I'd get in there and it would all be a false alarm, and that was the first positive test I had.

So when the tests say that they are over 99% accurate, it's a load of rubbish (at least in the case of a negative result)? Why don't they say that in the leaflet? Thanks for sharing FamiliesShareGerms. Massive congratulations Girraferama and Purple!

FamiliesShareGerms · 11/01/2013 10:43

Well, I guess they can be 99.999% accurate if I am one of the 0.001%!!

PurplePoppySeed · 11/01/2013 11:04

Thanks everyone, I'm on day 37 now which is 10 days late, but I've had symptoms since about 28th dec and been sure I was preg since NYE! I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for everyone on here waiting and if I get a chance later tonight I'll try as update those stats as it is nice to know who's where.

123234345 · 11/01/2013 11:04

True! But I didn't realise it was quite so common to test negatively at first before a positive test.

purplefairies · 11/01/2013 11:27

I think it's also because the 99% assumes you have regular cycles and know exactly when you ovulated. If you can't be sure when you ovulated then I suppose you can't really be sure when your AF is really due (applies in my case anyway)

JellyBeanDavey · 11/01/2013 12:17

I have a theory. With first morning wee, it's more concentrate and that's why you have a better result. So if I don't drink much (which isn't a surprise) hopefully it be a better result? Bcos it's using more 'bodily' fluid??

Girraferama · 11/01/2013 13:13

Haha, I think it's due to the body clock - I'm sure I read somewhere you generate more of the hormone when you are asleep..?

blizy · 11/01/2013 13:33

Just popping on to congratulate all of the bfp's! Lets hope for some more....

JellyBeanDavey · 11/01/2013 13:34

My best friend just said the same thing. Now I feel really young lol

Talking of age, if you don't mind me asking, how old is everyone? I'm 24 Sunday.

I feel I've gotten to know everyone, but when I think back, I only know about your cycles and nothing else LOLGrin

mrsstewpot · 11/01/2013 16:25

Congrats on the BFPs! Hope we get some more!

I don't know why there isn't more awareness of this happening. Certainly doctors don't seem to know it can happen in my experience.

I'd be interested to know how your due dates compare with your estimated due date after your 12 week scans. Please come back and update!

In the meantime, good luck and congrats again.

PurplePoppySeed · 11/01/2013 17:32

On accuracy - I once had a false positive doing a test at the doctors, apparently that almost impossible, so I can only assume they gave me something contaminated to give my 'sample' in. Turn out rather than pregnant I had a very large ovarian cyst!

Age - 31 Blush

Still keeping hopes up for more BFPs over the weekend :)

PurplePoppySeed · 11/01/2013 17:33

Oh good idea, we should def do due date updates too, though I guess if we all get BFPs we an also join the September thread :)

leo16 · 11/01/2013 21:01

So great to hear the good news! Hope there is some more on the way.

Thanks purplefairies, I guess I will just have to pay more attention for any signs at the moment.

MumVsKids · 11/01/2013 21:08

Fingers crossed for all of you waiting for your BFPs :)

JellyBeanDavey · 11/01/2013 23:09

Got me a FRER! And ill be testing tomorrow morning! Had a very queasy moment half hour ago, wasn't sure whether I was gona be sick or passing out. Anyone else get that?! Very strange

123234345 · 12/01/2013 00:05

See you all tomorrow morning!

bluefreckles · 12/01/2013 07:45

Hey everyone. Just come on to see two BFP's - congratulations! Grin

I'm away at the moment and unable to test but needless to say, still no AF.

Girrafe/Purple - how many days late were you when you got your BFP and how many BFN's had you already had?

123234345 · 12/01/2013 08:15

Another BFN for me! I'm off on holiday so see you all when I get back. x

Girraferama · 12/01/2013 08:40

Hey blue I was about 20 days late! I'd done about 6-7 tests bfn, the most recent being 6 days before my BFP. The main thing that made me do another (because by then I had actually given up) was constant hunger and constant indigestion (on top of still being v tired). We have still been Dtd so I can't be sure if I'm very early from that or if the BFPs just didn't show before (more likely)

JellyBeanDavey · 12/01/2013 09:06

A bfn for me again :( I had a choice between an Asda early predictor (which stated its measured at 12hcg) and a FRER (which didn't state at all) and I wish I went for the other cos I found out it only measures at 25hcg Hmm I'm either going to look at peeonastick.com or order some cheapies. Have a doc app on wed but it's not my own doc Hmm

JosephineMarch · 12/01/2013 11:09

Hello all! This is my first ever mumsnet post, but I saw this thread and just wanted to reiterate what others have said - it's not over until AF sings!

Last Saturday I was at cd49. Tested once but was BFN. Was cursing my long, irregular cycles and pondering whether to see the doctor. Had some odd signs in the week (indigestion, sides of boobs sore) but sternly told myself it meant AF was on the way - and even allowed myself a beer.

Yesterday morning I was bowled over to get a BFP. Now wishing I'd actually taken the folic acid sitting in the cupboard! I'd advise anyone who's still waiting for AF to treat their body as if pg, because you never know!

bluefreckles · 12/01/2013 17:32

Hey all. Well I've just got home and have some browny/pink spotting. Could this be an implantation bleed, even at this late stage?
It doesn't feel like AF. No pain...

Elektra83 · 12/01/2013 19:34

Oh bluefreckles I came on here to see how you were doing! I think you should definitely test tomorrow morning! Or now

bluefreckles · 12/01/2013 20:12

Just did another cheapie test - BFN... Sad
