haha, of course, the girls first and middle names will be.....drum roll please...... Savanna Brooke. We love it but it is a bit out their....I totally understand and won't be offended if you hate it.

For boys we have it narrowed down to Harvey, Dexter or Riley I think. Although we may totally change our minds I guess.

Oh I'm with you Rache I don't think I could wait, I'm far too impatient, plus I would want to plan colours etc for the nursery. I know I'm way ahead of myself but I'm just so excited at the prospect of becoming someones mummy. Grin

HazleNutt · 21/12/2012 11:33

Ah names - quite an issue for us. I have a somewhat uncommon name, it's a pain to spell it every time and people still get it wrong, and I want to save the sprog from this. So we're looking for more boring common classical names

We live in France, so the name should be something easy to live with here. It should also work in my native language (Estonian) and preferably also in English because the sprog will obviously be very successful in their career and working as someone important in an international environment.

Here's the trouble - Estonian is a phonetic language, we pronounce everything exactly as it reads. French, as we all know, is not. So if there is a French name that I like, inevitably it would be pronounced totally differently in Estonian and/or English or would be spelled totally differently, if people hear the pronounciation first.

I guess we'll wait til we find out the sex and sit down with the lists then. Oh yes, I'm definitely finding out (so I have time to get used to the idea if it's not a girl) Grin

MotherOfCleo · 21/12/2012 11:35

We couldn't agree either, I liked Ruby, he liked Tiffany, I liked Spencer and he liked Sebastian......it's funny names I thought he would like he hated lol. He just laughed at the suggestion of Spencer, I guess it is a bit old fashioned..

HazleNutt · 21/12/2012 11:38

Oh I really like Sebastian, taht could be an option for ours (if it's not a girl). Not sure about Seb or Sebby as a nickname though..

janey1234 · 21/12/2012 11:39

DP wants to know but I don't... Not sure if I will be patient enough though!

Re names I keep suggesting loads of girls names that he likes, but he's not fussed for the boys.

I have loads in the running.. for girls i like Amelie, Emeline, Isla, Elsa, Evie... Plus loads more I can't remember right now. He likes Annalise a LOT. Really like Florence as a middle name after my Nan (still alive, and totally amazing at 93) but haven't dated suggest it to DP yet.

For a boy I like Finley, Oscar, jasper, Oliver, Louis and Gilbert... Gilbert btw due to Anne of Green Gables obsession as a kid! Harvey will have to be middle name due to a strange (but lovely) family tradition.

Sounds incredibly tricky for you Hazle - argh. Sounds like you need the time after the 20 week scan to come up with a name!

janey1234 · 21/12/2012 11:42

Ooh forgot we both like spencer though!

Love Sebastian too, but like you hazle hate seb. My nephew was nearly called Sebastian but they decided against it in the end due to that. He's called Austin now which I LOVE.

HazleNutt · 21/12/2012 11:46

I would definitely use Florence, beautiful name, but SIL got there first. Same with Oliver (Olivier here).
I love Elise, Elodie and Eloise, but none of them would work with my surname.
Alexandra might be an option, could be used in all 3 languages.

MotherOfCleo · 21/12/2012 12:05

See I like Seb but not Sebastian as I just think of the crab in Little Mermaid. I like traditional names like Ivy, Ruby, Florence (Flo), for girls and Austin, Ryan, Dylan etc for boys but I do think Savanna is usual and pretty, the name Harvey makes me think of Harveys brewery but it is quite nice, not sure on Harv as a nickname though.

We will no doubt change our minds a hundred times...

Rache1S · 21/12/2012 12:19

Because of my Elderberry status I am one of the last in my peer group to get up the duff so lots of the nice names have already been taken. I don't want a really popular name that half the kids in the class will have, but I also don't want an outlandish name which will hold him/her back as an adult when he/she is in the running to become Prime Minister. D'oh, it's so hard!!

So you'd prefer a girl Hazle? I think I would prefer a girl and feel a little bit guilty that I might not be as happy if/when he turns out to be a boy. I don't even know why I'm drawn to a girl but I just am. I have been reading up on nub and skull theories since the scan and both of these point towards it being a boy although you can't really see the nub properly. When I find out for definite I really hope I am happy whatever even if little girls clothes are so much cuter then little boys. Xmas Grin

janey1234 · 21/12/2012 12:38

I too want a girl and DP wants a boy. Think that's fairly common!
Having said that, when I found out my SIL was having a boy for her first (so the first time I was an aunt) I have to admit I was a bit disappointed secretly as I was hoping for a girl. But when he arrived I adored him and I still am completely besotted five years on. I sometimes worry that I might not love my own child as much as I love him - and my niece who followed three years later. So I guess what I'm saying is I know that when the time comes I'd be over the moon with either..

janey1234 · 21/12/2012 12:40

Oh and of my five closest friends, two are called Alexandra so I think it's a gorgeous name hazle!

HazleNutt · 21/12/2012 12:48

Rach yes, I would prefer a girl - like you, I can't really say why, maybe because I've seen more problematic boys than girls and it seems they are harder to raise and keep out of trouble? DH doesn't care either way. Although one of my best friends has this adorable boy I'd love to kidnap, so I guess I would manage with one of those as well.

As I'm not feeling sick, everybody of course goes "oh, it's a boy then!" but a little survey amongst my parent friends has not confirmed any connection between MS and sex of the baby.

janey1234 · 21/12/2012 12:50

My DSIL was sick as a dog (poor thing) with my nephew. All the way through. Hospitalised with it. So yes, think that it's a load of twoddle re MS and sex....

Quodlibet · 21/12/2012 12:51

DP and I have a few boys names that we both like - one which we are really drawn to - but very few girls names. We've both agreed not to talk to anyone about any of the names on our list!

For some reason (perhaps due to lack of MS) I am finding it far easier to envision a boy than a girl. We aren't going to find out though I don't think. I'm not really into the pink/blue thing so it doesn't make much difference to how we prepare, apart from making sure we have 2 strong names rather than one!

MotherOfCleo · 21/12/2012 12:58

I want a girl too....feel a bit bad but I do REALLY want a girl!!!!! Grin a boy would do though.

HazleNutt · 21/12/2012 13:05

Oh yes, I'm planning to avoid the blue/pink thingy as much as I can as well, I hate how people start treating even newborns differently depending on the gender. Seems that it is getting harder and harder to find anything that is not pink and sparkly or blue with tractors though - no matter if we're talking about clothes, furniture or toys. So if the second one is not the same sex, you would buy a whole new set of everything?

MotherOfCleo · 21/12/2012 13:53

Rache I totally agree, I want something different but not too different.

And Hazle I for one would definitely buy my daughter trains and tractors etc, I grew up with an older brother and I loved his toys, although I was never allowed to play with his dinosaurs....still hold that against him Grin

On a different note, I have some mild but quite strong cramping and twinging today, even the odd shooting pain. I'm only 3dpo so it can't be implantation pain but at times it is quite uncomfortable......has anyone else had this?

MotherOfCleo · 21/12/2012 13:58

Also did anyone have any thoughts on the name Savanna? Should I take the lack of comments to mean it wasn't liked? I don't mind, honestly, as it took me a while to get used to but I love it now Smile

HazleNutt · 21/12/2012 14:08

I think Savanna is pretty - just that my company has a facility in Savannah, Georgia, so this is what I would automatically think of, hearing the name. That's just me though.

MotherOfCleo · 21/12/2012 14:17

That makes sense, I originally thought of savannah grasslands in africa. Smile

ZombiesAreClammyDodgers · 21/12/2012 14:32

I like Savanna and got the south africa connection, but would personally have preferred Savannah with an H.

MotherOfCleo · 21/12/2012 14:41

a fair point zombies Smile glad you liked it though. Grin

janey1234 · 21/12/2012 14:44

I like it too, both spellings. To me the h makes it look a bit softer?

Rache1S · 21/12/2012 16:16

I think we all need to take abbreviations into account when name choosing. Even if we always use the full length version ourselves others will inevitably abbreviate. My boss is called Ian and even he gets abbreviated to I ("ee") would you believe?!! My DSD is Scarlett and she is called Scar by her mates which is bloody awful!
So I think Savanna/h is a nice name but you also have to like Sav/Savvy/Anna, etc.

HazleNutt · 21/12/2012 16:42

yes, Ian is obviously such a long complicated name Confused
