Argh i misled you oops, just checked on fertility friend and had to do a double take...BFN was yesterday morning, not Sunday so not quite so impressive god it seems likes ages ago!!

It's called Zita West guide to getting pregnant. She did a live chat on here a while back so thought she must be a reliable source. I wanted one point of reference as opposed to google as that can tell you whatever you want it to if you look in the right place. (not that it stops me googling!)

I have found it quite easy to understand and I do like it. She is a bit of a hippy I think though, section about Chinese medicine not for everyone (ie. me!) but I got it for £2.50 in a charity shop so defo worth it!

I think you can wear the man out though! Last month we peaked too soon and ended up DTD without the crucial element a couple of times. Whilst medically it might not have a negative affect, it must do something to their ability to keep going by doing it all the time!

Oh Nicola are you there? Do you have cramps? I've started to cramp this evening around my stomach, can't quite pin point but think its central. My boobs are sensitive and I'm in a stinky mood....crappy hormones!!

That diagram Nicola shared with us shows that fertilisation happens straight after the egg is realeased. I thought it took 3-4 days before the egg is fertilised...agh so confusing!!

I've been a bit crampy. Not so much today, but I'm a bit ahead of you. Can still feel my left ovary though, if you know what I mean?

MissM my temp dropped again :( However, I forgot to close the bedroom window so I woke up cold and don't know if that had an effect on temps. I guess time will tell!

I just couldn't face taking my temp every day!

I think I'm definitely feeling better today...no ovary ache and my mood has lifted. :-) I wonder if I'm building a baby, ha ha!

I need a definitive guide to conception, I think, if that diagram is wrong. :-/

Conception basics:

The egg will live for 12-18 hours after ovulation. Some people say up to 24 hours, but that is the extreme.

Sperm live 2-3 days inside the uterus, though again some people say up to 5 days.

If you dtd every other day you should catch the egg in time.

Implantation takes place between 6-12 days after ovulation. You will not get a positive pregnancy test until implantation has taken place.

Just as an aside, implantation pains and bleeds are the exception, not the norm. Only about 20% of women will experience this, do don't assume that you have to see it.

On the temperature front newbie, because you are taking a resting temperature (ie as soon as you wake up) it is very unlikely to be affected by external factors. It can be affected by illness.

Last night I felt awful, I was really bloated, I had a headache , my right side on my ovarie was aching , and today I got my first peak on my cbfm. I'm so happy :)

So do I now have 24-36 hours to dtd ?
