TTC first baby

Hello all! DH and I are TTC our first baby, I'm 31, he's 32. We've only been trying for a month so it is extremely early days but I'm so excited at the prospect.

DH may have some fertility issues (picked up on a scan) but I was pretty convinced it was going to be a BFP straight away as I had so many symptoms - but that shows how much I know! Blush

Is anyone else TTC their first baby? Please join and keep me company!!

Remember that each person has a different pain threshold. My mum basically used to say "HTFU" and after my surgery, the nurses kept asking me when I was going to be cut open because I was walking upright and normally.

I made a point of walking a little bit every day - the first week was sore but it wasn't that sore that I look back now and say I couldn't do it again

Hello, I have been lurking for a couple of weeks now and thought it was about time I say hi. I am 30 as is my DH and we got married last August. We have been together 10 years.

I stopped taking my pill in April and had my withdrawal bleed as normal. We have been ttc no.1 ever since. I am now on cd46 and beginning to lose the will to live. I know that it's relatively normal for the pill to take a while to get out your system but jeez the waiting is so annoying. I don't know whether I ovulated or not and haven't had any symptoms of anything. We have been dtd every other day or so. I have taken a few hpts and all BFNs. I have been taking Pregnacare conception since stopping the pill.

DH is really relaxed about it and is firmly of the belief that it will happen when it happens. I on the other hand have wanted a baby for the last couple of years but have been waiting for him to be ready. Now we are trying I just want it to happen. But I guess that's normal too!

I have borrowed a CBFM to use when my AF does finally show but will be poas discreetly as DH might freak out using it straight away.

Anyway that's me and my story. I hope I can join you all and wish you all the very best of luck in your ttc quests. Who knew that actually getting preggers could be do darn difficult!!!

Sorry to ask what may be a dumb question but how are you all working out when you're most fertile? Is there a way I can work this out while I wait for my first AF to arrive? I thought it was with OV sticks but after reading recent comments I see this is not the case.

Newbie2 · 06/06/2012 15:26

Hi Maclairey,

It's sounds like you and me are in a similar boat! I've also been waiting years but had to wait for DH to be ready! He didn't want to start trying until we got married which I do agree with it jut felt like a long time because we've also been together along time like you.

What is a CBFM? Should I get one!? I'm willing to try anything while DTD every other day.

redstrawberry · 06/06/2012 15:46

Hi newbie and maclairey

I will jump into your boats too as I have been waiting for years to start ttc, came off the pill a year back - DH not ready, started trying last month, with all the stress of symptom spotting, timing it, planning to dtd on fertile days, working out fertile days with OV calculators online and CM changes BUT ended up with 3 BFNs and a heavy AF at the end of the month.

Lesson learnt and new approach for TTC is to not symptom spot or try and plan it as per fertile days as you never know what your body is actually doing.

Weird thing these bodies are... so we are just going to DTD EOD till AF arrives and not worry too much about OV.

redstrawberry · 06/06/2012 15:48

maclairey coincidentally I am 30 too and DH and I have been together 11 years now. I really want to be a mum and yes TTC is just so mentally consuming. I think I would be really lost without these MN threads to obsess.

Maclairey · 06/06/2012 15:50

Hi Newbie

My DH was the same, wanted to be married a year before we started trying. I managed to persuade him that we should try a bit earlier though because it might take a while!

CBFM is the Clearblue Fertility Monitor. You can buy it on Amazon for about £60 (£99 in Boots) and the sticks are £20 for 20. Because I am an impatient sod I was contemplating buying one and then my pregnant friend offered to lend me hers. I have no idea if/when I ovulate and they seem to be a bit more of an accurate alternative to opks. Read the reviews on Amazon they are quite positive. My friend got pregnant in the second cycle of using hers so hoping that her luck passes over to me. Although i need AF first!

Maclairey · 06/06/2012 15:53

Hi redstrawberry

It is mentally consuming and I tend to easily get obsessed with things.

FC we get our bfps soon!

xx

Pinkie29 · 06/06/2012 15:56

Just reminded me about my fertility monitor and sticks that I bought! Upstairs unused!

KickingUpQuestions · 06/06/2012 16:00

I will have em!! ;)

The thing is that it's mentally and emotionally draining for everyone. We're all here because we've all been trying for absolute ages to fall pregnant.

When you start clocking up the months and you're looking at every conceivable idea on why you haven't managed it, you eventually find ways to not obsess.

Otherwise you go mad

Maclairey · 06/06/2012 16:03

Congrats on your BFP pinkie. I hope you have a happy and healthy pregnancy. It must be a weird feeling, extreme happiness but (if you are anything like me) a little worried too. From what I have read that seems to be quite normal.

xx

Newbie2 · 06/06/2012 16:32

Maclairey, with the monitor do you have to know when your last AF was or can you start on the first day of your very fist AF (since coming off the pill?) I've just read the Amazon reviews and it does look good! I like the feeling of being in control as I'm naturally a bit of a control freak! I think that is why I started using the OV sticks so early on.

Maclairey · 06/06/2012 16:39

Hii Newbie, it says in the destructions that you need to wait 2 cycles after coming off the pill. I am guessing this is due to accuracy if your cycles aren't sorted out. But I figure that I am too impatient to wait for 2 so will start using it when AF arrives and prepare myself that I might not get a peak in the first month.

I just feel like I need to "do" something to try and find out what's going on with my body!

Newbie2 · 06/06/2012 16:40

Also - Maclairey if you're 42 days in your cycle have you not been tempted to take a pt? Just a thought.

Newbie2 · 06/06/2012 16:41

Oh sorry Maclairey I didn't read your thread properly. I see that you have taken a pt!

Maclairey · 06/06/2012 16:42

I am on cd46! Have taken 4 hpts and all BFNs :-(

Maclairey · 06/06/2012 16:42

:)

Kittenkatzen · 06/06/2012 16:46

kicking they won't stick a needle in my spine anyway will they???? will they??!?! only for an epidural surely, not standard procedure??

Kittenkatzen · 06/06/2012 16:47

oops, sorry forgot to say welcome to maclairey.....hope AF puts an appearance in for you soon.....

Newbie2 · 06/06/2012 16:48

Maclairey - Hmmm I wonder if it asks you to enter the date of your last AF like the online calculators. I so know how you feel and I'll probably end up buying one on Amazon too lol If only I'd known the complications when you start and I would have come off the pill before the wedding!

Maclairey · 06/06/2012 16:52

Thanks Kitten! Me too! Hope your trip to the docs goes well.

No it doesn't do the Newbie. You don't put any info into the machine, you just turn it on on the first day of AF and then pee on a test stick when it asks you to. You then put the test stick into the machine and it reads your hormone levels. It will then give you a low, high or peak fertility reading. You usually start peeing on sticks on cd6 and then it will ask you for between 10 and 20 sticks depending on the length of your cycle.

That's my understanding of it anyway.

xx

Maclairey · 06/06/2012 16:54

Newbie have a look on the clearblue website, it has the CBFM instructions on it. That will give you an idea of what it entails.

xx

KickingUpQuestions · 06/06/2012 16:55

I thought that's where they gave an epidural?

Crap I don't know. I didn't think they stuck a needle in your spine for a section either so I have no idea :D

Leftwingharpie · 06/06/2012 16:58

Another one with a reluctant DH here! It's our third wedding anniversary next month and it's taken me until now to persuade him to try. I've had 22 cycles since I came off the pill - if it's not out of my system it never will be! I've done a bit of charting while I've been waiting and will probably track my temperature rise post ovulation, but I'm relying on my Persona monitor to pinpoint my fertile days. DH is very relaxed about the whole thing to the extent that if he doesn't feel like DTD it doesn't matter and we can just wait till next month. He's driving me crazy!

Leftwingharpie · 06/06/2012 17:00

What's all this about needles? Confused
