ChoccyPud · 17/04/2012 13:58

A positive thread for all those diagnosed with High or Very High NK Cells and looking to start TTC or already pregnant on Prednisolone and/or Intralipid treatment.

Newcomers very much welcome!

OMG! A Kitten! Grin. falls over with glee/jealousy. Grey and white too, how delicious. I've always wanted a grey and white cat. I've just been having a right old bawl and that little face has brought me a well needed smile Smile.

It's good to hear from you snoopy (both of you!). You sound like you're staying strong and being pragmatic about your situation. I'm pleased to hear that things are as positive as they can be so far. We're all rooting for you here. x

snoopygirl · 12/05/2012 15:30

Thanks all, He's so cute. He follows me everywhere bless him. Thought he would bring a smile to a few faces. x

PQ77 · 12/05/2012 16:06

Apologies in advance for scattergun post, am trying to remember everyone and everything I wanted to say and know I will miss someone.

Love, love, love the kitten snoopy! And great scan news so far too; sounds like you are getting really efficient care which must fill you with confidence. Here's hoping that spot on your pelvis is benign.

Coconut - will be lurking for news. Hope your water breaking went ok (hard to get that sentence grammatically correct...) . And comedy wishing you all the best for your EMCS or ELCS, as the case may be!

digi how is F and his tongue? Feeding better? Friends of mine have had to battle for that snip so I'm glad you managed to get it sorted so quickly. Please compile a list of tips for what to do with two...I am still lugging DS up the stairs to get him to bed and don't know what I will do later in pregnancy or post cs. Dh's suggestion (as the earliest he ever gets home is 2130) was to let him sleep on the couch!

duggs don't ever complain about being a misery (I think that's what you said) - let it all out! And kittens and ari too.

I think duggs asked what I added this pregnancy on treatment, after mc on first steroid cycle. Prescription medicine wise it was just upping the pred from 25 to 40 at bfp as advised by mr s (took 25 from ov). Vitamin wise it was adding selenium and slightly more vit d than what I had been on (self prescribed) - plus I took the full gamut of vitamins religiously for three months prior to conception which I hadn't done prior to the mc pregnancy.

In addition, I re-read dr beers book and self diagnosed high tnf-alpha because of my bad endometriosis (I think what choccy is going to be tested for). To naturally lower those cells prior to conception (and also nk cells) I cut out red meat, all alcohol, drank buckets of green tea and pure pomegranate juice and ate a whole avocado just about every day. No decaf coffee - dr beer says not good for nk cells and I had been having quite a lot if that (and no caff coffee of course).

I went to the scarily-named "prem[aturity] and high risk" clinic on Weds and was a bit intimidated to be seen by a Professor, his three doctor underlings and a midwife, all in one room. But they were lovely and will see me every three-four weeks for the rest of my pregnancy (on top of the regular consultant and midwife appts): apparently my slightly early birth with DS, recurrent mc, history of gynae surgery and weird shaped uterus make me a specimen worth studying! Am in yet another study of something or other (having graduated from the early scanning study). I guess this comes with being booked in at a big teaching hospital!

frozen I don't think I've said how pleased I am for your latest scan. though as I think greenolives said there's no such thing as a care free pregnancy for us. I hate being congratulated and am only telling people on a need to know basis - eg neighbour who is trying to set up a nanny share and found me being very evasive. I even told hr I don't won't to be on the leavers and joiners list for another three months.

By the way thanks to everyone for their support re my boss. I have been thinking about it a lot and it is taking up a lot of mental energy which I can't spare! This week's delights include taking credit for a report I had written (and then emailing me to say she didn't think it was worth correcting the misapprehension on the part of the person who thanked her copiously for my work), telling me to raise my profile as I only work part time and need to take on some big projects before I go on mat leave. And signing me up to write and give a presentation to c.200 people when I will (hopefully) be 7 months pregnant - again because I need some high profile tasks to focus on.

Sorry! That's all for now.

free hope you are having a lovely break, and choccy I think your holiday will do you a world of good.

Big hello to everyone else, sorry if I have missed anyone's news - can't scroll on this screen.

PQ77 · 12/05/2012 16:15

Ahhh, euro - conditions sound great for this month. Fingers crossed.

Remind me - have you had the laparascopic procedure where they look at your ovaries and uterus? Saw a friend and her ivf baby yesterday. She had asymptomatic endometriosis - so no monthly pain or anything but when they looked her ovaries and tubes were all scarred.

It can't be picked up on an ultrasound as they're not sensitive enough and everything can look completely normal.

Sorry if you've been through this already but so much of her story mirrored yours (same age, very fit and healthy, trying for over a year but no bfp) I just had to check.

Comedyworks · 12/05/2012 17:16

Really good to hear from you snoopy (and see the feline Snoopy!) so pleased that there has been a bit of positive news for you and fingers firmly crossed for future results. Take good care and let us know how you are doing when you feel up to it xx

Good luck coconut - hope the delivery is smooth and as painless as possible !!!

Thank you for all the good wishes they are much appreciated xx

ChoccyPud · 12/05/2012 17:48

Hi PQ all sounds good with you, you're getting loads of care and attention, and regular appointments mean less time to mental in between, I guess. Your boss sounds like the bullying bitch lady I used to work for in that now she knows you're pg she is making a particular point of pushing you and picking on the fact you're part time, piling on the volume of work/ stress level inherent in individual tasks. And who will only get worse if you have the audacity to resist or complain. Keep your chin up.

Snoopy no one could think Snoopy isn't gorgeous. What a lovely treat and it's great to hear all the progress you're making in terms of finding out what's going on in there. It all seems to have happened really quickly. Thinking of you a lot right now.

Kittens hope you're ok... Has AF made an appearance??

PQ yes it's tnf alpha he is looking at testing for, he's had a clutch of pre-6 week losses apparently. He'll decide if I should be tested as and when we see him next by which time he will have a few other people's results hopefully...

I don't have endometriosis (afaik), but on what I've read so far (not had time to get back to Dr Beer yet) there's a lot of mention of diabetes or insulin issues wrt tnf alpha. My Dad was diabetic, it's in the family but can never remember if thats type 1 or 2. Anyway, I'm beginning to wonder if maybe I'm moving to developing diabetes as Dad was about my age when he started having problems, though wasn't insulin dependant for some years. With all my funny eating patterns over the last 15+ months, the Pred, the side effects that could've been pg or Pred, eating little and often etc, I honestly couldn't tell if I have been getting hypos that I assumed were something else. Oh well. We will see.

Great pix Ari!

Waiting for Cocobaby to make his/her appearance...

Gosh - all life is here, isn't it? Such life-changing things happening on here at the moment. Snoopy I feel for you, having such new terminiology in your life - the oncologist, the different scans etc. Glad it it sounding good so far and hope the thing on the pelvis is clear too. We miss you and are glad you are keeping us updated! That kitten is just the most gorgeous thing ever! You could sell greeting cards with that photo.

PQ am pleased they are paying you due attention. You are indeed a fascinating case. What do they think the chances are of this one making an early appearance too?

In answer to duggs question about what I did differently. Pred (40mg) and intralipids were as before, added the hydroxy (two weeks before ovulation) and I self-prescribed selenium. I didn't do anything special with diet etc and just carried on as normal before pregnancy. Normal is eating reasonably healthy, no meat, but not abstaining from wine or treats.

choccy are you going to have a test for diabetes then? Have you had any symptoms? You are probably feeling so many weird body things that it is difficult to tell.

V impressed with Coconut's updating from hospital :) Hope it is all going well!! It will all be done and dusted soon and you will be sitting there with a new baby wanting all your attention.

Florence is bloody wonderful. It's so hot - 25-28 degree and although we only arrived yesterday afternoon it feels like we have had lots of time here. We've bascially been wandering around in the sunshine, sitting in cafes, spent much of today in the Botoli Gardens (lovely views, rather steep for walking so I had to stop regularly, have lots of water and also have a picnic in the park) and jut come back from a gorgeous meal. I had an inch of a glass of prosecco and a sip of DH's gorgeous red wine. Feel pretty walked-out as we have done an awful lot of walking, but I figure that it can't do the baby harm (hopefully?) as long as I stay hydrated and take regular breaks.

The other thing is I forgot to get more selenium before I came out here so am going to go four days without it. Again, I hope it won;t do any harm. AM pretty sure I must have built up a good level of reserve so far. Nowhere online can I find out recommendations on how long to take it for, so I was planning to take it for the whole duration, but am sure 4 days without won't make much difference? Any opinions on this welcome!

Getting up early to try to beat the queues at at least one of the museums so will sign off. Lots of love to all in this rather momentous week for the Pred Thread! xx

Coconutfeet · 13/05/2012 05:14

Just to update you, cocobaby safely delivered in the early hours. 3.66 kg. He's absolutely lush. I'm completely knackered but can't wind down to sleep. X x

ChoccyPud · 13/05/2012 07:25

Yay!!! Congratulations Cocofamily! Great news. I don't think I'd be able to sleep either. Oh It's so lovely to have babies arriving, keeps the hope alive. Much love to you all x Grin

free my point was I simply haven't felt "normal" for so long I wouldn't know if there was anything non Pred or pg related in amongst the symptoms! I guess I'm giving my body a chance to do its own thing for the next few months so we shall see. It is so weird though not taking a load of meds and supplements. Only two more days of 5mg Pred and I'll be pill free

Fantastic news coconut - congratulations to you and your family xxx

Abney · 13/05/2012 09:02

Great news to wake up to. Well done coconut. Gives us all hope.

Snoopy good news so far. My thoughts are with you and I hope the rest of your scans are OK.

GreenOlives · 13/05/2012 09:08

Thanks Congratulations Coconut that's fabulous news Grin I hope you are managing to get some rest now.

Snoopy So pleased that scan was positive Smile And fluffy Snoopy is absolutely gorgeous!

PQ The regular appts sound great, it may go some way to help with the mentalling! Your boss really does sound awful - I'm not sure how I would deal with her!

Free Florence sounds fabulous! Only 7 more sleeps until I head off to Majorca so I'm trying not to be too Envy of you in the sunshine! I'm sure that missing the selenium won't matter at all. I bet DH was over the moon when you sprung the holiday surprise on him.

I am 7dpo and trying not to symptom spot. I am glad to not be on the Pred but I will test fairly early so I can start it if I get a BFP. Happy Sunday everyone.

freelancegirl · 13/05/2012 09:17

Just also wanted to post this from yesterday's Guardian:

www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2012/may/12/miscarriage-saying-goodbye-services?newsfeed=true

lemonsherbet · 13/05/2012 12:13

Just wanted to say congrats on a new thread baby coconut

I also have some good news not pregnancy related but since I was so down last time I posted. My Aunt is slightly better and did not die this week. They are talking about discharging her next week, admittedly she will never recover but it is better than when I last posted. They are trying to get a hospital bed for her to go home to.

snoopy love the kitten. I have 2 cats and one is grey and white and similar to yours.

pq your boss sounds an absolute nightmare.

kittens and ari I am in a similar situation to you. Last miscarriage was in Nov and was so sure that when I got all of those answers from Mr S that everything was going to work out. Then unable to even get pregnant to even see if the treatment works. I have stopped everything this cycle aspirin and steroids and pregacare and the levothyroxine for my subclinical hypothyroidism. Just wanted to give my body a chance to reset. I also have joined an online diet club online having found out that I have gained 1st and a little bit since being on pred stuffing my face

duggs how are you doing?

duggs1976 · 13/05/2012 12:32

Congrats coconut hope u r doing ok!

lemon I'm not so bad. I have also gained a stone being 8 mths on pred and the last month high dosage. Sad I have finally weaned off pred and as it has not helped me at 40mg even with high nk cells diagnosis I won't be touching it again unless I miraculously get a bfp. I am still taking vit D3, omega 3 and have added selenium as u all seem to have started with this. I don't mind the vits. I am unsure about Pregnacare I might change to pre conception as I feel like a fraud popping Pregnacare each morning like a deranged delusional woman. I am on hydroxy - hoping the appetite suppressant part might help shed some pred weight too. I have no inclination to cook, or do any domestic type chore. Keep eating out or not at all ( proper food I mean I make up for not at all with toast or something equally lame). Must start to make an effort again now but still have waves of sadness as I am trying to come to terms with the adoption route ( with getting pg and carrying to term an unlikely "bonus"). Who am I kidding? But still I must try. snoopy and choccy seem to be resilient enough and I do like to hear the progress of everyone so I still log on here all the time.
Anyone know treatment for this TNF alpha ? Don't tell me pred, intrallipids and clexane or I will curl up and cry! ( but do tell me if that is the truth) as it means I've had it already. Thanks free and pq for your info. Hope u doing ok. Kittens I love them. Snoopy will keep you busy. Don't know where I'd be without dexter although he is naughtiest kitten I've ever knownWink

duggs1976 · 13/05/2012 12:41

Oh good news on lemons aunt too although not better, better than she was!
My aunt had a stroke a few weeks back and my folks still in china travelling so I'm visiting her next weekend in Wiltshire! She's doing ok it is more common than we realise as was a mini one. So many illnesses in here but imagine if this thread existed 100 yrs ago. With all that has happened over last century our eyes would pop out of our heads at what people used to go through!

eurochick · 13/05/2012 12:46

Woo hoo, congrats to Coconut!

PQ I had a lap when I was 19, so quite a few years ago now. I couldn't tell you now what it showed or tbh why they did it. It was when I was being investigated for PCOS and I guess they checked for endo too? I was nowhere near as well informed back then as I am now, nor was I as bolshie about asking questions and challenging drs, etc. I have wondered about endo as I have read that when investigated a huge number of "unexplained" people actually had it. I do have painful periods (although bizarrely those have eased since ttc) and IBS which can be markers for it. But at this point I think I would rather have a needle through the fanjo for IVF than another lap. My belly button looked like it had been sewn up by the surgeon's three year old after the last one! It took at least at decade for me to feel comfortable in a bikini afterwards. It was a mess.

Sorry you are still having a rough time with your boss. She sounds like a cow!

Lemon I've gained half a stone. I really must do something to shift it!

Free Florence sounds fab. The weekend in France did me the power of good. I hope being in Italy away from grey old England will give you a lift too.

Oh my word, Snoopy that is one cute kitty. I keep thinking about getting a fur baby to take my mind off ttc. I'd love a British Blue.

I'm glad the scans have been good so far and fingers crossed the pelvis spot will turn out to be nothing. It's good that you are getting it rescanned soon though - there is no point leaving it playing on your mind.

I had my second IUI today. Hopefully I will ov today/tomorrow. I don't hold out much hope that it will work, tbh, but you never know!

ChoccyPud · 13/05/2012 13:14

Duggs you sound really low today, I'm so sorry you've got all these thoughts rushing through your head. Have you thought about speaking to someone to help process the last mc and help you get ready for the next time and adoption etc? I know I'm a fine one to talk, I still haven't called any of the counsellors I've got numbers for, but still... Worth looking at?

The treatment for tnf alpha is humira, which I think someone on here has had before - Abney maybe? Two injections before you ttc, a month apart. Given that Hydroxy has the six week lead in period, it'd be fairly easy to build it in if necessary.

Fingers crossed for euro and Olives - we need some names in that first trimester!

OP posts:
digitalgirl · 13/05/2012 14:42

Congratulations to the coconut family on the safe arrival of your baby boy!!! Name? Piccies? (understand if you don't want to out yourself with such info) Hope you've had some rest. Those first few days where they sleep really well are for a good reason!

snoopy what an adorable little kitten! Soo cute!

lemon glad to hear your aunt is on her way home.

pq the regular monitoring sounds good. Glad your in safe hands. Boo hiss to evil boss lady.

free glad you're enjoying Florence. If you start getting an achy groin when you're walking that's a sign to slow down and take a break. It's the start of spd. On a less finger wagging note - yes yes to a pred thread tea round your new gaff! I'll bring cake! Grin

Very best of luck with the iui euro.

Fingers crossed for you too GO

choccy and duggs and everyone, yes it is unbelievable the things we have gone through together on this thread. I'm just pleased you're all still here posting and getting support from each other. I know I relied on this thread the most to get me through my pregnancy.

The weather here is beautiful and have just returned from the park and now both boys are asleep. I've had my lunch, folded some laundry and taking 5 minutes to just sit here and enjoy the peace. This is DH's last day doing Grand Designs and he's taking tomorrow off to spend some time with us.

Very much looking forward to hearing comedy and iggi's birth announcements this week Smile

batteryhen · 13/05/2012 17:45

Lovely news for coconut :) Many congratulationsxxxx

Only 2 more announcements to wait for this week then :) - and after brownie - free you are top of the list!!
duggs sorry you are feeling crap just now. I hate that feeling of sheer frustration :( I really hope you get some good news soon xx
snoopy Good news on your scan so far, I hope the rest of your results come back just as clear too xx
Good luck to euro too - I hope you OV tomorrow and this is your month - Fingers tightly crossed for you xx

Nothing happening here, just very hormonal and tearful over the silliest things ,but nothing to complain about xx

Hugs and waves to everyone else xx

Abney · 13/05/2012 17:48

Hi all, hope everyone is OK. Choccypud It wasn't me with the Alpha thingy. What is it? I am going to see Dr S tomorrow for follie scan. This is my 3rd SO scan and you may recall I had 3 good size follies the first time and 1 the 2nd time. I think I recall you have a lazy left ovary as well. This time it is my right ovaries turn so as I am on increased Letrozole 7.5 then I am expecting loads Grin. The horrible thing is I have a nasty feeling that there won't be any. You know what it is like whenever you are expecting something it never goes to plan.

I am going to ask DR S about Hydroxy. Do you think he will give it to me? What made him give it to you? Should I also ask about this TNF Alpha? I don't care how much it costs because if there is a next time I get a BPF I want to give myself the best chance of keeping it, otherwise the last resort will be IVF but that doesn't sound too promising given my age.

On the plus side after reading all of your posts about going on hols Envy I have now booked a holiday to Eurocamp South of France. DH does not like flying so haven't been on hols for a few years now (well not outside of the UK). A tip for anyone flying Easyjet. Flying from Gartwick £400, flying from Luton £160. Crazy I know.

ChoccyPud · 13/05/2012 18:31

Abney as with free and Ari he added Hydroxy after my first mc on Pred last December. Duggs is also on it now. He does different things for different people though depending on history etc so just because there are several of us on it, doesn't mean everyone is given it. Free's doing ok on it, I had another mc... Best to just talk to him about the best plan for you.

I wonder who it was who's had humira before then? No doubt she will turn up sometime and tell us all about it!

Waves to all. I'm off to enjoy the last bit of my weekend :)
