Ummm, it measures progesterone, doesn't it, which is also required to sustain a pregnancy? Maybe something about the higher the number the better from that point of view? As in, you would have a problem if you ovulated but didn't have the progesterone.

The Day 21 blood test confirms that you have ovulated. It measures progesterone which is released by the Corpus Luteum (the bit left in your ovary after the egg has ruptured). Low progesterone (anything under 10 I think) means no ovulation.
The progesterone is released for about 14 days as the CL dies off. If you're diffed the HSG being released takes over. If you're not, your temp drops and your uterine lining sheds.

God I'm going to ace my Equine Repoduction module on this course aren't I?!

CaveMum · 14/02/2012 07:45

Of course I didn't mean HSG did I?! That's the nasty dye test!

I meant HCG, which of course horses don't have as that would be weird Wink

blonderthanred · 14/02/2012 10:59

Or HSC, which is what the schoolkids in Neighbours do.

eurochick · 14/02/2012 11:00

I'm not sure what a blood test would add if you have already seen a corpus luteum on the scan. Maybe just that prog levels are high enough to sustain a pregnancy?

PhoenixFromTheFlames · 14/02/2012 13:15

That's what I was thinking...what are the progesterone levels in relation to cycle point when ovulation was confirmed.
No mistaking Droid for anything else this time...stuff of horror movies Confused

eurochick · 14/02/2012 13:34

Mine too Fee. It can't be healthy that I make my bathrooom look like I have been slaughtering pigs in it once a month, can it?

sinkingflameofhilarity · 14/02/2012 17:57

Howdy folks.

Jewels I think it must be prog as well. I think fancy centres who actually pull their finger out scan and prog together can be how they monitor. Have they not on prev cycles?

I'm still trotting along. Day 38. No sign of droid. Am going to toilet approx every 37 min to check. Wish my bloody hormones would just do their fecking job. Arse.

PhoenixFromTheFlames · 14/02/2012 18:16

Nope, definitely not good. Will be having a romantic ish dinner with MSB including some bacon. I need the iron you see! It gets less romantic doesn't it? Previously I've slaved over dinner and worn sexy undies, tonight they don't even match...not that he'll be getting anywhere anyway. Thanks Droid.

Northey · 14/02/2012 18:24

Well, my chap (boyfriend, not cowboy leg wear thing) will be working till 11pm, and will be brain-racey and exhausted when he gets in but as this is the first time we'll have seen each other fr a fortnight, and there's a teeny chance I might ovulate to a normal timetable this cycle, I shall be insisting on a valentine's shag.

He'll have to fight his way through my leg hair, mind.

Sechsy North Grin

HWHNN is working away, as usual. We kind of did Valentine's at the weekend, minus the cards as he hadn't been near a shop! I told him not to send me flowers, which he usually does, as they seem to treble in price at this time of year. He can send me them when I'm not expecting them!

So tonight's romantic meal consisted of last nights leftovers with the cat staring at me for scraps Hmm She's now asleep on my lap whole I watch Gok and later Big Fat Gypsy Wedding Grin

BTW, love how the gender selection thread has become a BESH reunion!

Northey · 14/02/2012 20:05

BESH are choosy and capricious. We may be barren and desperate, but we defend to the death our right to retain gender preference!

And been deleted! Wow. You're like one of the cool naughty girls at school.

PhoenixFromTheFlames · 14/02/2012 21:31

I chipped in too. Old friends made me laugh! bugs had a post deleted by MN ummmm Wink

CaveMum · 14/02/2012 21:34

But there was nothing offensive in Bugs' post!

Perhaps OP is just a tad oversensitive, as are we barren-ers apparently Wink

eurochick · 14/02/2012 21:37

You rebel, bugs.

I glanced at the thread early on. I am now staying away cos I am not in the mood for a fight. Unusually.

Droid is still visiting so Mr euro won't be getting any tonight. This time last year I was in Paris, with a view of the Eiffel Tower. Note that was I, not we. I was there for work, for two weeks. So being in the same country, just not able to dtd, is a considerable improvement.

Northey · 14/02/2012 21:38

I wonder what happens - do they write to bugs and tell her why?

Northey · 14/02/2012 21:43

Your professional life sounds so glamorous, euro Envy

OP posts:
PhoenixFromTheFlames · 14/02/2012 21:48

I think.it sounds glam on the surface Northey, but I suspect euro finds it tough being away from monsieur Euro especially in special occasions.
I can't believe that Op did an aibu thread about the other thread. It's like dobbing people in at school....

Northey · 14/02/2012 21:55

Well yes, I kind of suspect so too.

Am going to be asleep before shag at this rate.
