TTC Super Ovulation...

duggs1976 · 17/01/2012 22:21

hey ladies,

There are a few of us who are ttc after mc's, however there will be ladies out there who are also ttc for the first time or second or third without success. If anyone is on, considering or had success on a super ovulation programme then do join us. How long did it take ? Did you try IUI with it.. ? Did you have PCOS?

Kicking this off and hoping some of you will join....

pebbles where are you off to?

suemays · 01/03/2012 12:26

I am waiting until Saturday to test. Feeling quite calm as I know if its not this month it will come eventually. Now I have my IVF plan I know that by June I will either be pregnant on SuperOv (hopefully not miscarried) or will be starting IVF. I am still feeling really tired but the sore boobs and nausea have gone so I am not expecting miracles!

snoopygirl · 01/03/2012 12:36

sue Calm is good. I glad that having a plan has helped you chill a bit. You know not to worry about the symptoms coming and going, happens all the time at different stages. But that's easier said than done I know.

skyper · 01/03/2012 12:39

hi ladies.... just gonna jump in here cos i dont know where else to go!!
quick history...pcos, ttc for 3yr seriously... (although no contraception used for 10yr ;)) ..husbands swimmers are grand, we are 31, em, the rest is below!!!:)

got a letter from my consultant two weeks ago telling me to start taking letrozole on my next cycle as im not ovulating with clomid..... the thing is they have never mentioned letrozole before, in fact the last time i spoke with the consultant she said to up the clomid from 100mg to 150mg, and if that didnt work they would add in metaformin.?!?!? so, unlike most of you on here i dont seem to ovulate at all.... :(

So to get a letter saying ive to do something which has not been discussed has completely thrown me..... and left me a little peeved!!! >:(
just wanted to know if anyone knows anything about letrozole...any success's, ive googled it, but obviously not having the chance to discuss this has left me with a million questions so any advice would be appreciated... what are trigger shots, what doses seem to work..anyone else using this even though they dont ovulate.....sorry for all the questions, but any info would be appreciated... feeling very lost :(

thanks :)

eurochick · 01/03/2012 13:51

Hi Skyper and welcome. I'm sorry that your dr has not discussed things with you properly.

I think all of the ladies on this thread ovulate and so are using Letrozole to try to induce superovulation (i.e. more than one egg). The results are actually much better when it is used for people who don't ovulate on their own (presumably because if you do there is some reason other than lack of eggs for non-conception). I googled some stats on success rates before I started on it but don't have the numbers to hand.

Letrozole (and clomid) can be used with or without a trigger shot. The dr that most of us are seeing uses it to make sure that where there is more than one mature egg, they are all released. The hormone in it is HCG - the pregnancy hormone. I've never looked up the mechanics of how that forces eggs out but somehow it does, apparently.

Although our circs are a little different to yours, we are all experienced drgu takers here (!) so we will try to answer any questions that you have.

snoopygirl · 01/03/2012 14:04

Hi Skyper

I have read aobut clomid not working for some and then people being tried on Letrozole to see if that works but I would be nice to have it explained to you. Have you tried getting back in contact with them?

I am under Dr Shehata NLC in Epsom and he has put me on 5 days of letrozole from CD2. It has less side effects that Clomidt hat's why he prefers to use it. Saying that everyone is different. No side effects at all a for me on it thankfully. First go on it I produced two follicles this month and am on 2ww. Letrozle 5mg dose. Which i will prob stay on as responded well. Some are on 7.5mg to boost things a bit.

You then take Ovitrelle trigger injection after folicle scan to see how many you have produced and doc tells you when to take trigger if the follicles are in between a certain size (14mm to 23 ish I think) and when to have sex! usually in the next 12-36hrs after jab depending on size. then away you go 2ww! Smile.

I think most of us are on 5 or 7.5mg Letrozole. This board is fairly new so not a massive record of sucesses yet but yesterday there were two bfp's with ladies on here yesterday so hopefully they will continue to be sucessful.

Oh and welcome!!

duggs1976 · 01/03/2012 14:29

skyper just wanted to add letrozole is what they use in USA. Has less side effects and is proven to be more effective in many trials x

Hi all, and welcome, skyper to the thread. I've been told and I think others on here will agree that Letrozole is 'better' than Clomid. Mr S says he's had much better results on letrozole. I've done 5 cycles on it and have just got pregnant, so there's one success, and we think sue is another success, though she's waiting to test again on the weekend. But it's not nice to just get a letter without any explanation - can you ring them for a discussion? euro explained the trigger shot as I understand it - it's to push out ALL the eggs that have matured, whereas normally your body only releases one.

sue it's awful waiting, isn't it!? We are collectively holding our breath for you.

snoopy so glad you got some sleep. Exercise is always good as well.

I'm feeling weird today. I don't feel like I have 'symptoms' per se, though I feel kind of breathless and what might be slight nausea? Though I actually think it's just caffeine withdrawal. I booked a scan with Mr S on March 17, which seems AGES away. I would be 6+4 that day, which might be a bit early.

Can we have a quick roundup of who's testing when? I am currently testing every day. Did another CB this morning and may need to hold off if my bank account is to survive.

Sue - Saturday
Euro - CD7 yesterday so testing early next week?
Snoopy - are you around CD7 and testing early next week?
Pebbles - testing in 12 days time?
Duggs?
Skyper?
Kittens?

Who have I missed?

snoopygirl · 01/03/2012 16:59

jaffa probably sneaky test next tue. Oh bloody hell sue I feel nervous for you! Hope your bearing up.

Sue - Saturday
Euro - CD7 yesterday so testing early next week?
Snoopy - prob sneaky test tues 6th at 10dpo
Pebbles - testing in 12 days time?
Duggs?
Skyper?
Kittens?

eurochick · 01/03/2012 17:03

jaffa I'm testing again tomorrow (9dpo) to make sure the HCG is gone. And then hopefully doing a "real" test on Monday (12dpo), so I can decide whether or not to stop the Pred and Progesterone.

snoopygirl · 01/03/2012 17:04

Sorry jaffa is CB Digi still looking good?

I still have vv faint line on stick so Ovitrelle almost gone.

jaffajiffy · 01/03/2012 17:30

Yep still 1-2 weeks, so I'll be going again until it's 2-3 and then 3+ (assuming it keeps going)

snoopygirl · 01/03/2012 17:52

I suppose that the only way to keep checking things are going in right direction jaffa aside having a hcg test? Where do you get your cb digi's from? They have them on ebay for £6.50 plus free postage with date of spet 2012 on them.

snoopygirl · 01/03/2012 17:54

Forget that!! Just checked amazon and they have twin packs for £6.50!!

jaffajiffy · 02/03/2012 06:45

Top tip, snoopy! I've just ordered a stash.

suemays · 02/03/2012 20:17

Well I caved in this morning and did another test and it was def a strong pink line! It's much stronger than the ones I had at the beginning of my chemical pregnancy and it's earlier at 12DPO so I hope it's a good sign. The nausea and sore boobs have subsided but I guess it's the high does preds masking it now. So ladies, looks like we have 2 superov successes this month! I am waiting for the rest of you to join us but at least we know it does work!!! I hope it makes you all feel a bit more positive that the plan can work. Also worried now as I will be 8 weeks (if I get that far) when we go abroad on holiday.

Have the intrallipids booked in for Tues so doing another test on Sunday just to check the line has got darker before I waste the money.

So who is testing next?

snoopygirl · 02/03/2012 21:17

Oh bloody hell!!!!!!!!! (sorry feel the need to swear) Sue So Happy for you Grin!!! Think it went quiet on here today just waiting with baited breath for you news!

euro next and then me I think. My line (re ovitrelle( is barely visible) so that will be well out of systmes hopefully by next week. Smile xx

snoopygirl · 02/03/2012 21:19

where are you going again sue?

eurochick · 02/03/2012 21:19

Probably me on Monday, but I wouldn't get your hopes up. I do not have any kind of BFP track record!

I'm glad your BFP has turned out to be both B and F, sue.

jaffajiffy · 02/03/2012 22:13

Wuhoo, sue! super exciting that super ov strikes again! Did you tell Louise? So, so pleased. And this was your 2nd super ov cycle right?

So Monday for snoopy then. Brilliant.

jaffajiffy · 02/03/2012 22:14

Sorry meant euro but snoopy is tues!

suemays · 02/03/2012 22:20

euro don't give up as this is the first month I had kind of given up think

suemays · 02/03/2012 22:25

Thinking it would be my month. I have even started the referral for a hysteroscopy and have been concentrating on going for ivf in the summer as was convinced I would never get a bfp.

We are off to Bermuda so really worried as its only in 4 weeks. Knowing my track record I prob won't get that far though.

I am convinced it's the acupuncture that has helped and am sure he knew last week I was preg as did something different to normal. Will ask him tomorrow.
