The old thread seems to have run out of room... I'm hoping this works as a continuation...

Hi All, I'm back at home after a very long morning in the hospital. In for 8am but not in the surgery until 12.20. Very thirsty!
They only got 8 eggs so I'm feeling a little disappointed. They're talking ICSI which in my view isn't great, but I don't know all that much about it. Everything is crossed now that a good number fertilise tomorrow....
blacktreacle have you called your nurses? You may just be having a reaction to the drugs, but it's worth checking to find out.
I'm off to bond with the sofa & an episode of Glee before DH returns with DS.

Thanks blacktreacle, I might try that of things don't move soon. I am trying to eat plenty of protein as I've been told but think I might have to intersperse it with fruit and fibre and stewed prunes!

Teds77 · 25/10/2011 22:34

Hi Clo glad you're home and does sound miserable - feeling bad about suggesting the call but think it's best to be safe. I was really constipated too, to the extent that when I did eventually manage to get some.. err... movement, it was like giving birth Grin

bugsy I'm not really sure about the doses as I've not mixed menopur and gonal f - sorry not to be more helpful. I'm on 300 units of menopur and my AMH is 2 so a fair bit lower than you.

Pinkforboys · 25/10/2011 22:42

It sounds like you're having a really miserable time cloclo. I'm finding the meds are making me constipated and bloated too- I'm into comfy sweats and unbelted jeans...but it's like being authentically pregnant not just pupo! I've had it since before the progesterone. Not resorted to prunes...yet.

Let me know if you find anything that works!

Meanwhile I'm trying to distract myself by planning a 40th birthday weekend away with friends. Any advice on weekend rentals within 3 hours drive of London would be a welcome Grin

Clo how gastly for you hope you get good news with scan tomorrow. now I come to think about it did get constipated on progesterone just did not put 2 and 2 together!!! hope you get some well earned rest tonight

Cloclo15 · 25/10/2011 22:53

Teds don't feel bad, my DH was determined to call anyway and I'd rather be safe than sorry. I will ask at the scan tomorrow if there is anything I can do about bloating/trapped wind/constipation. If I'm honest I usually have the opposite problem so I'm not used to this.

On a positive note my lower abdomen feels a lot better already, so I think everything is healing nicely.

The doc said my vomiting could have been due to anaesthetic or all the hormones floating around or simply from being prodded about so much the day before.

As far as meds go, I was on 150iu of Menopur each day. Not sure what my AMH is - what is that?

blacktreaclecat · 26/10/2011 06:23

AMH is antimullerian hormone and is an indicator of ovarian reserve and likely response to Stims. With 31 eggs on 150 menopur yours is likely to be normal/ high. If you have PCOS it can come back high as well.
HTH

Cloclo15 · 26/10/2011 07:01

Thanks blacktreacle. I know all my hormone results came back normal so I'm guessing that was as well or they would be bound to have mentioned it.

How are you feeling now on your TWW? What day do you test?

blacktreaclecat · 26/10/2011 14:13

The NHS don't measure it you have to pay privately. As I say with 31 eggs you don't need to worry.
2ww- 7 days post blast transfer. Feel fine, just normal except for progesterone induced constipation etc. Full of cold and not taking anything except paracetamol. Having an afternoon in bed.
Trying not to think about it too much and keep thinking at least we got frosties.
Hope you are feeling a bit better today
Xxx

Cloclo15 · 26/10/2011 15:07

Sorry you are feeling poorly blacktreacle.

I went in for my scan today. My ovaries are, in the words of the nurse 'massive, and squashing my uterus into submission' and I have a fair bit of fluid around them which is causing the discomfort, but she showed pics to the consultant and they aren't concerned enough to stop the transfer, though goodness knows how they will do it if my uterus is all squished.

My bloating from the progesterone is still awful, apparently this will be better after I can start using the pessaries vaginally after egg transfer.

Overall I feel very uncomfortable and amazed that anyone could be back at work two days after EC - I'm still not sure I'll be alright next week, especially since a bizarre side effect seems to be car sickness believe it or not!

zeebee1 · 26/10/2011 15:34

Clo POOOR you.... sounds like a rough old ride you and your ovaries are on!
Is your Embryo transfer sill set for Saturday? It's amazing how ones insides seem to recover fairly quickly after each stage they've been through!
Have you decided how many you will put back?

I had to collect more delightful pessaries formt he hosp this morning... i must say I am pretty used to stuffing them up Blush now!! It's funny because I think I can feel my uterus shape changing each time i insert them - sorry definately TMI there!!!! Blush Blush...defiantely constipated and then - like someone amusingly descibed on here - feel like i'm giving birth when I finally go!!!

ANYway --- we have our first scan booked for 10th Nov - where we might - if all goes to plan (FINGERS CROSSED) see the little heartbeat/s - it will be week 7 by then!

Waves to all

Cloclo15 · 26/10/2011 16:29

Hi zeebee I think we will only be allowed to put one back.

Just had a phone call from the embryologist and I'm a little bit disappointed, though obviously we have a way to go. 4 of the 18 haven't gone on to divide. Of the 14 remaining, of six grades there is only one grade 1 (excellent) quality, 7 grade 2 (good) and the rest grade 3 (average). I was really hoping we might get more better quality - are these grades normal?

They are getting put away till Friday afternoon now to get to blasto stage. I'm starting to think we might not get anything to freeze at all, and also feel a little upset as I'm wondering if the fact they stimmed me to produce so many eggs has affected the quality? :/

zeebee1 · 26/10/2011 17:46

Hiya clo - not sure re stimming = less quality - i've never heard of that and believe me i've read A LOT of books (as i'm sure you have) Wink
The embryos are amazing and so seem to divide very quickly in the final stages - well thats what seemed to happen for us. we weren't told what "grades" they were - so perhaps you are getting more info that you actually need to know (if you KWIM!) all you can do is keep positive - have you got any relaxation tecniques you can do before transfer? I found that really helped - i was a pent up headless chicken the morning of my transfer - deep breaths are the way forward I think.... good luck Smile you will be fine.... don't worry.
xx

Cloclo15 · 26/10/2011 17:56

Thanks zeebee - I know I'm probably panicking prematurely but it's hard when you get given information like that and you don't really know what to do with it as you have nothing to say what will/won't work etc

blacktreaclecat · 26/10/2011 18:07

I wasn't really told about the grades on day 2/3, just how many had dropped out. Taking them to blastocyst will give you a greater chance. If an embryo doesn't reach blast in the lab, it wouldn't have in you either. The culture media and incubators are very good now. With that many embryos going to blast will mean you get the best one transferred and you may well still get frosties. We managed 2 blast frosties and we only had 8 left at day 3 and we had PGS to weed them out further.
I am starting to go mad now wondering if it has worked and am really worried this awful cold will ruin our chance.

Cloclo15 · 26/10/2011 18:20

blacktreacle hang on in there, you had a really good quality blasto transferred and I'm sure people get PG with colds all the time, just take care of yourself and make sure DH is waiting on you hand and foot :)

I am feeling a little more upbeat now DH has come home, I missed him today because he has looked after me so well. Mum and dad are coming up to stay for a few days tomorrow so hopefully that will take my mind off things a bit.

I have so much marking/schoolwork to do and can't face any of it yet as I feel so rough, think I might have to have a go in the morning though or I'll have a terrible backlog!

Fluffycloudland77 · 27/10/2011 13:52

Hello ladies, I havent posted on here before but I had an IVF specific question. When your gp ref you for NHS treatment did you get a choice of clinics? our pct still funds one cycle so I want to go to a clinic with a good success rate.

zeebee1 · 27/10/2011 15:50

Hi fluffy and welcome to our lovely thread...
Re gps.. We live in Clapham in london and our gp just said that Guys in London bridge was where we would be going. I think it's all about where your borough will fund you to go?
good luck
zb

Cloclo15 · 27/10/2011 19:13

Hi fluffy, we were referred to the CRM in Coventry after a dodgy blood test and they diagnosed our problem so it was assumed we would have treatment there. We went from diagnosis to treatment in less than 3 months. I don't think there is anywhere else in this PCT that provides the service. You might have more options if based elsewhere maybe.

bugsylugs · 27/10/2011 19:52

Hi Fluffy. In theory patients have choice in reality most PCTs have preferred providers and in some cases will only fund to those places. In South Staffs default is to Burton but actually there are a few choices so check with GP or even the PCT. Check out the HFEA site and if you have a preferred choice ask your gp if you can go there if declined you can always ask the PCT but do not get hopes too high. Best of luck

Hi all

marmitemad · 27/10/2011 20:59

evening ladies,

haven't been on for a while as been very busy at work.

we had our initial consultation today at The Lister and it's all go for long protocol on day 21 (10 days time - eek!).

left there with the down regging spray but need to get the other drugs from my satellite clinic where I will have scans.

it all seems very real now we've started handing over the dosh, really hoping it all goes well as we should get the results just before Xmas

FatimaLovesBread · 27/10/2011 21:12

Hi Fluffy

I was automatically referred to our nearest centre in West Yorks which act as a satellite clinic but actual treatment is at Manchester CARE, however we received horrible treatment at our referral which meant my DH doesn't want to return there. Through patient choice we are now referred to Jessop's Sheffield which I researched through HFEA and other forums. There should be no problem still getting our funding from our PCT but time has yet to tell

blacktreaclecat · 28/10/2011 07:57

Hi it is 14 days post EC now and I feel so scared. Really think it is a bfn. No symptoms at all except a bit of pink/ brown discharge sometimes and occasional tummy cramps. No breast tenderness or anything. Really wish I could just test and be out of my misery but trying to hold out until Sunday.
How is everyone else? Cloclo how is your ohss?
Xxx

zeebee1 · 28/10/2011 09:00

blacktreacle it's sooo hard just waiting isn't it's the longest days ever... Think all those symptoms are v normal... Good luck on Sunday and until then keep busy busy busy.
Zb x

Cloclo15 · 28/10/2011 09:48

Only two more days blacktreacle, it'll be worth waiting till the weekend at least.

I am in quite a lot of pain, but it's not from my OHSS I don't think - its from the excruciating trapped wind! I've never felt anything like it - it wakes me up groaning every night and I can't yawn, laugh or cough properly because of it. I'm bent double at the moment over my hot water bottle. I know when people start using the front entrance it eases - I hope this is the case, but I'm not allowed to till after ET. I am worried that ET is going to hurt because there can't be much room in there what with super-sized ovaries and gas filled intestines!

Sorry to moan so much, I feel like a right misery and I know it's all potentially for a good cause, I'm just feeling really fed up and tired after another disturbed sleep :(

zeebee1 · 28/10/2011 09:54

clo so sorry to hear that. I too was in awful pain with the pesaries between EC and ET. I ended up putting them in my behind and the pain was much better. After ET I was able to put them up the front and no pain! I think it's because your insides are in a bit of trauma aftter EC and I Think it's normal to feel the pain you are in. Horrid tho - I know only too well...
