Another thread for those who are waiting to try for a baby. It doesn't matter how long or short the wait; why you are waiting; or how many DC you have. All are welcome.

Old thread here.

I'll join this thread too, though I'm sure I'll be here a while. Found this thread due to broodiness, seeing pictures of friends spending their first christmas with their LO, and another friend's constant fb updates alternating between pg news and her greasy food intake (the amount of takeaway that woman eats drives me mental!).

I'm waiting until my OH and I can move into our own place, which due to my lack of employment and his self-employed (very low income) nature, is likely to be a while. We're desperately trying to improve our cashflow, but there's so few jobs around. :(

We are currently visiting his family, and a family friend asked when we'd start ttc, which got me even more broody.

I'm currently 24, turning 25 this year, so I know I've not got time against me, but I'd like to have 2 DC before 30, so I have the option of having a 3rd before 35. I also had a termination at 17, and have a friend whose partner conceived around that time, so whenever I see pictures of their little girl I can't help but feel she should be mine.

My partner and I both want children, so thankfully shouldn't take too much convincing after we get our own place - in fact I think it'll take more effort to persaude him to put a ring on my finger! We've been together almost 5 years, and numerous friends have started relationships and got engaged since - though I'm in no rush to get engaged, it feels like everyone is moving on with their lives and I can't even move into my own place.

Sorry for the huge introduction, but I feel better for the offload.

Also, Buddhagirl, my OH loves the name Tobias as well, can't get him to like any female names though...

LottieLouH · 05/01/2012 20:41

After reading through the thread and seeing how a few have moved onto TTC I'm relieved to hear I'm not the only one who's having to wait (although I have no patience)!

Awayinamangercooper · 05/01/2012 23:28

Sorry I've been missing in action over Christmas. It seems there are plenty of us left after all, I was starting to worry for a minute there! Welcome to everyone who has just joined us!

nenehoo I'm glad you enjoyed your epic snow adventure. Presumably this is coil out week now? Or is it already all systems go?? If so, good luck!

freckly sorry to hear about your DH's uncle. And what is it with our infuriating DHs and their ridiculous 6 month postponements?! Is he any closer to coming round do you think?

Good luck this month LydiaWickham!!!

Welcome Rockchick! I'm confused, will you be able to TTC from this summer? If so you can join us in the queue for the February 2013 bus! 9 months is a lovely age, it's good to hear positive reports from the Other Side.

thinking I have to say, this Christmas was much better than last, it might have just been where it fell in my cycle, because round OV I am always a basket case, but I think it was more that TTC is actually on the horizon now, so I felt a bit better about everything. Good to hear your DH is officially broody with evidence!

Awayinamangercooper · 05/01/2012 23:39

MrsTwinks I'm glad it all got sorted out in the end. 1 February is really close - do you know when your fertile time will be so your DH's shagathon can commence?! When is the holiday? Hope the work review went well.

Coveredinflour (good name!) welcome to the wonderful world of forums, hope you don't get suckered in and addicted forever like the rest of us! On the plus side it's very therapeutic to talk candidly with people who get it. We all think about babies constantly, so you're in good company!

Oooh I notice you are also planning to start on 1 February, we can race you and MrsTwinks! Grin

What does your doctor say about managing the vaginismus and simultaneously ttc? I'm sorry to hear that this is a problem for you guys, I hope you sort it out.

Hey Evilwater! How was your christmas and New Year? Mine was full of booze and karaoke, no children which is sad at Christmas, but we were all jolly nonetheless, even DH at times!

Awayinamangercooper · 05/01/2012 23:47

LottieLou welcome to the gang and also to the wonderful world of forums! I repeat the dire warnings about horrible addiction, but it's probably too late! Have you actually read the whole thread right back to 2009? Sobering reading I am sure!

I am always amazed when DHs are up for TTC, I wish it would rub off on my super reluctant DH. It sounds like you and your DH are me and my DH the other way round! Hopefully we will all be on the same page by June!

Nancy, Muffin welcome to the thread!

HeavensNetIsWide · 06/01/2012 07:00

Am about to go to work but wanted to say a quick hallo to all the new ones!

Evilwater · 06/01/2012 08:45

Hello away,
I'm glad to be back as I thought I would never DP would never want kids. It turns out he is just not ready. Yet.

My Xmas was booze filled and work filled. I'm exited about getting a brand new car, and it's a big hint!

Hope you all are well and your sprints are not dampened.

Ew

Awayinamangercooper · 06/01/2012 09:13

What's this big car business Evilwater? How many babies are you planning on having?!

LottieLouH · 06/01/2012 09:36

It's scaring me how quickly I've gone from not being sure to being completely obsessed. Also, I've always thought of myself as quite knowledgable but after reading this website I realised I haven't even got a clue about my cycle let alone everything that is due to follow. I've found myself secretly checking out prams on the web rather than understanding the 'science' bit x

chemiseblair · 06/01/2012 09:49

I am actually borderline worried about myself that I've even gone down this route but err, is there any potential risk to taking conception-aiding vitamins (the Boots own brand one so it's pretty much just folic acid, iron and magnesium) for an extended period of time?

My cycles have been bonkers lately (including a 45 day one; am 25 and always used to have very short ones so becoming deeply suspicious about her downstairs' activities...) and although I know going to the GP is the best idea, I have to wait ages to see one so thought... the vitamins might... help? I think I may have gone insane. Blush

(on the plus side they are on 3 for 2 at the minute)

chemiseblair · 06/01/2012 09:50

(Should add that am aiming to TTC this year but need to wait until I've passed my probation period at new job)

Awayinamangercooper · 06/01/2012 09:57

Don't worry you've come to the right place!

P.s. unsure and obsessed are not opposites, we all have our neurotic dithering days!

Awayinamangercooper · 06/01/2012 10:08

chemise I don't think you need worry about the vitamins, but I would check the labels just in case to see if there are any warnings about prolonged use. Folic acid doesn't build up in your system, so it will be safe to keep taking that.

As for your cycles, if you're worried that they are very erratic, see your GP. Have you been keeping a record of how much they can vary? I don't know any of your history, if you recently came off hormonal contraception that can send your cycle a bit haywire.

When does your probation period end?

chemiseblair · 06/01/2012 10:15

Probation should be over at the end of March- had a ludicrously long session so will have been here for blimmin ages by then, getting extremely impatient.

Haven't been on hormonal contraception for years (history of strokes in the family so doesn't agree with me) but did start exercising a lot more this year/take on a more stressful job/only started actually tracking my cycles for the first time a few months ago Blush and they've always been erratic so I suspect it's pretty par for the course alteration. Am going to see my doctor about it but they consider it an extremely low priority (which is fair enough, obviously there's a lot of flu and christmas backlog at the minute) so appointment is weeks away.

I have decided 2012 is the year for baby (or at least, conception thereof) as partner is older than me & time is becoming of the essence so I think I've just become completely overenthusiastic. Grin

Awayinamangercooper · 06/01/2012 10:20

Nancy you sound like me two years ago, desperate to start TTC but with quite a few i's that you'd dot and t's that you'd cross first if you had a magic wand. Meanwhile DP doesn't quite share your enthusiasm for throwing caution to the wind and TTC regardless, because he's not the same hormonal mess every month, longing for a child.

If I had the time again, and DH was up for it, I would still go gung ho into motherhood if I possibly could, because having to wait for a prolonged period of time when you're desperate to get started is horrible.

Having said that, I can see that there have been massive upsides to all the waiting. My debt will be paid off by the time the baby comes, which means I can take a full year's maternity leave if I want to. We're probably going to own our own home before the baby comes, which is something that I know was worrying DH, and which will give us much more security. I have a new job, which I like much better than my old job, and I will get enhanced maternity pay if I wait just a bit longer to start TTC - till June. Also, DH and I are managing to fit in a big trip around West Coast USA.

Now just have to hope I'm still bloody fertile!

MrsTwinks · 06/01/2012 10:20

Well holiday was for the end of march, idea being I was due on earlyin the middle of the month so optimum time. however cycle has gone alittle nutso as I ended up about 12 days late over christmas, so DH's shagathon holiday might turn out to be a woohoo we got a BFP holiday if i don't "right myself" as I have done before.

Review went really well, but wasn't so much a review as a promotion! Talk about timing eh?

Awayinamangercooper · 06/01/2012 10:21

MrsT are you updiffed?? Shock

Awayinamangercooper · 06/01/2012 10:23

Chemise yes it sounds like a doctor job. Are you charting, because I think charting messed my cycle up, stupid though that sounds.

MrsTwinks · 06/01/2012 10:25

nope.. BFN (and mega period after!) just late because of stress etc we think. No chance I was updiffed as nothing this month anyway as DH managed to pull his back out stupid boy

Awayinamangercooper · 06/01/2012 10:31

Oh I see so your cycle has slipped so your fertile time no longer coincides with the holiday! That's a shame. How did you feel about the pg scare?

LottieLouH · 06/01/2012 10:31

awayina I'm in the same position. Got a new job in October which i love plus better mat leave perks, we're hoping to buy a house this year, debts will be clear next month and have a massive holiday planned for June which is when TTC will start. I can't believe how naive I've been believing I'm the only person thinking about these things and holding on to TTC until the right time, I'm feeling so much more relaxed and relieved although slightly more obsessed.

chemise I'd love to be able to offer some advise but still trying understand these things. I think Doctors is best option, let me know how you get on if there's any interesting info to share

Awayinamangercooper · 06/01/2012 10:32

Congrats on the promotion by the way!

StuckInTheFensAwayFromHome · 06/01/2012 10:52

Hello all!!! Have a five minute break and this thread pops up and its nice to see familiar and new faces!!! Good wishes and vibes to all that are in this waiting room!

All getting a bit hectic here as we get ready for our trip to Canada in Feb, which has had the good effect of reducing some of the ttc impulses. Although this thread has got me thinking... maybe some of you know the answers?

How 'delicate' is pregnancy in the first few weeks - from what I've seen the 'safest' part is the middle trimester? Reason I ask is that we are away for 2 months and will be snowboarding - so a high level of exertion, potential bumps and mild knocks as I am good enough not to fall much but I will be pushing myself to improve so will probably have quite a few spills and tumbles.

Should we not risk starting TTC while on holiday? Our original plan was to wait till the second month of the trip. I'm now all dithering as to whether we should wait till we come back? Part of me also wonders whether in a wierd way I am getting nerves now that the time is nearly here?

Awayinamangercooper · 06/01/2012 13:20

Stuckinthefens I would start a thread in the conception forum to ask that question.

Evilwater · 06/01/2012 16:21

I'm hoping to get a greeenline Skoda estate. Yep going from a small 3 door to a massive 5. I think there will be plenty of room in the estate for prams and the alike.

The only problem is that all my saving are gone. So the by the time I get savings back we should be in time for some ttc.
