Another thread for those who are waiting to try for a baby. It doesn't matter how long or short the wait; why you are waiting; or how many DC you have. All are welcome.

Old thread here.

Hi all

Can I re-join? I have posted from time to time on one of the old waiting threads but the broodiness is hitting home big time at the moment so need a bit of support...

We're getting married in October 2012 and basically as soon as we have paid for that we can start TTC!! Even DP has agreed, and keeps saying things like "only 2 more Christmases to go then we'll have our own little family" and "can we go look in babiesRus at how much prams are?"....!!!

Thing is, now he's actually decided he can't wait for kids either, we're both just as bad as eachother pining at home for baby, going gooey over baby-stuff on TV, getting rosey-eyed at baby's first Christmas.... There's no way I could walk up the aisle pg, but we might just try for a honeymoon baby!!!

Not sure whether I can wait that long, good luck to all you other waiters who are watching the clock tick slowly...

Zara1984 · 26/11/2011 16:32

redstrawberry sorry to hear about your job problems - I've been through that kind of switch myself! Don't want to stir but is there any way you can go back to your old workplace? Or will sticking it out at your new place until you go on maternity leave be good career-wise (and then move on to somewhere else when you want to go back to work, if that's possibly timing/financially-wise?)?

jobcar You've got DH on board - that's the biggest obstacle over! Soon you'll have the wedding planning occupying your every thought... so probably good to wait until AFTER the big day to TTC! And it means that you have an extra incentive NOT to blow all your loot on the wedding (which, from experience, is an easy thing to do)! :)

Ok some updates for my situation... we are going to start TTC in December!!! How do these schedule changes keep happening you may ask?? I'm worse than Ryanair!! Well... mostly I keep getting over babycracked out and plead my case to DH. To get to starting TTC next month though, have had to make the following concessions for the month of December:

  • I do ALL of household chores next month
  • change kitty litter every day (wearing gloves and maybe a mask for baby-safety reasons - and as soon as I do get pg it is back to being his chore!)
  • I make him his favourite dessert every weekend until the end of the year (starting this weekend)
  • He gets full naming rights on DC#1. In fairness he'd probably get the final decision about a baby name anyway as he's much more fussy about those kind of things than me.

Ladies, what have I done?!?!? I've signed myself up for a whole lot of work in December! But I'm ECSTATIC and I think it's worth it (ask me again in a few weeks' time...)! I think I made a good deal.... Grin

Booked flights to Australia and NZ in late March and I have every appendage crossed tightly that I will have exciting news for friends and family by then.... come on CBFM, work your magic!!

Awayinamangercooper · 26/11/2011 18:38

Zara in case you are not joking and surely you are, aren't you a bit worried about what are you setting yourself up for? It's not just December you have to worry about!

Zara1984 · 26/11/2011 18:45

Awayinamanger probably only half-joking Wink

The chores and dessert are limited to December only.... Hey, I can handle that! When I was between jobs I took on the full-time domestic goddess role so it's nothing new. On holiday for part of December anyway.

As for naming rights... DH is very particular and forthright when it comes to this. He'd never allow our kids to be named something he 100% loved anyway, so it's a moot point. We've already got a list. This is the man who insisted on seeing my wedding dress before I bought it, and will tell me outright if he doesn't like my outfit. He's lovely and perfect for me - but my friends are constantly shocked because he doesn't buy into the concept of female sensitivities Grin

Awayinamangercooper · 26/11/2011 20:49

Aren't you sending the message that DC are 100% your project, rather than a joint one? I'd be worried he'd constantly be opting out of the nightfeeds and nappies saying "well you wanted a baby, this was your idea" etc.

Awayinamangercooper · 26/11/2011 20:56

I mean if that's something you're happy with, or if that was the plan anyway, by all means go ahead. Just throwing it out there.

nenehooo · 26/11/2011 23:03

Ah zara brilliant news that hubby's on board... I've been charting this month, and think i'm ovulating so last night I let my hubby know, joking that we should get some practise in. He didn't take it too well - so looks like I'll have to use all my wiley feminine charms when the time comes!!! Away I also see what you're saying, I was worried when my hubby proposed that he was doing it out of duress because I wanted to get married so much and had the same fears about telling him I wanted babies. In the end all it took was for me to tell him what I wanted and when and give him a financial breakdown - not much then! But that is how he sees things so it was necessary. But still, it does sometimes feel like we're held to ransom over our hormonal urges and that's unfair.

Ratata · 27/11/2011 01:59

waves goodbye I've been more of a reader than a poster here, now waving goodbye as we started TTC on our honeymoon (just back 2 days ago) even though we had planned for December. Wishing all the luck to everyone for when they start :) xxx

Awayinamangercooper · 27/11/2011 02:17

Ratata thanks for waiting with us and good luck with the TTC - and congratulations on the wedding!

CEDR · 27/11/2011 14:53

Zara- good luck! I'm nervous of the idea that your "DH" isn't ready for it without demands, I hope it's all in jest!

I would never try to persuade or force OH into TTC, but then I know that I'm young enough to have a bit of time left to wait and I'm luckily not obsessed. Well, only obsessed since we agreed to ttc! :-S

redstrawberry · 27/11/2011 18:28

I am really pleased for you zara looks like you are going to have your hands full and a very exciting December. Haha make sure you get these favours returned and more when you fall pregnant Grin

I had a chat with DH this weekend and I think we both agree it will make sense to stick to the new job (maybe I am not giving myself enough time to settle in) and then yes start a family. Have to wait till April as I will then be eligible for the maternity pay. I have started a slow cycle count down! 5 cycles to go :)

Awayinamangercooper · 27/11/2011 19:00

redstrawberry me and you both! Except I have to wait till May.

Ratata · 27/11/2011 19:49

Thanks awayinamangercooper

Good luck to all when the time comes :)

xxx

redstrawberry · 27/11/2011 22:02

awayinamanger i think i qualify for MP mid-April and my cycle predicts ovulation in early May...happy to have found someone else on the May boat Smile

Strange... I never felt this strong urge to start a family up until the last few months. its just taken over. I like babies but at the same time I am very non-maternal (not yet changed a nappy -eeek!) and this time last year was terrified at the prospect of having one and now I just have this mad obsession of charting, calculating the months (same as you stuckinthefens), dreaming about my own little family and lurking on this forum :)

TremoloGreen · 27/11/2011 22:28

Hi all :)

I'm a first-timer... been thinking about motherhood for about a year and a half, but just got serious in the last couple of months and had the talk with my partner, and he's up for it!

Unfortunately I've had a fairly crap health problem for the last year, needed minor surgery, waiting to find out if (but looking likely) I need another more serious operation - hospital next Mon. I'm going to ask the doctor how best to manage the problem/ surgery timeline alongside ttc. Fingers crossed!

So we're waiting until I'm well enough. My two best female friends are pregnant, broodiness has gone off the scale, welling up looking at babies and children while out with family today. Glad to find others going through the same thing, makes me feel less mad :)

I'm coming off the pill in the meantime to try and get my cycle back to normal. Probably time to get back in the gym and start eating healthily too (been playing the sick card for a bit too long)!

Good luck to all!

StuckInTheFensAwayFromHome · 28/11/2011 07:00

ratata good luck!

It looks like there's a few of us will be going for it in the spring!

I love the phrase babycrack, thats a new one for me but I instantly knew what it meant! But much worse than babycrack is seeing toddlers and little kids - just keep having to tell myself they're not always so cute and funny.

tremologreen fingers crossed for today...

(Meanwhile have just taken the marzipan chocolate stars out of the fridge from the left over icing - feel free to help yourselves!... Its the only thing I can think of to do with marzipan - drench it in plain chocolate!)

WeeSooty · 28/11/2011 17:49

Hello everyone

I have a wee question... If you are charting, taking your temperature... Does it have to be orally or can I get a thermometer that goes in my ear??

Confused
Awayinamangercooper · 28/11/2011 17:53

No ear won't work - it's not sufficiently accurate. You need to take temps orally or vaginally. I wouldn't fancy sticking anything in my ear first thing after waking up anyway!

Awayinamangercooper · 28/11/2011 18:14

redstrawberry all aboard the February 2013 bus!

WeeSooty · 28/11/2011 18:17

Thanks Awayinamanger. Orally it is then as I don't fancy sticking anything up my... well you know... Blush

Does it matter what thermometer I get? I bought a boots one that cost £10 but it has broken!! Was thinking of getting a vics one instead it looks ok.

Have found out my body temp seems to be 36 degrees.... Explains why I am always so cold!!!

nenehooo · 28/11/2011 20:02

I've been charting too! And most of my temps have been sub 36 degrees, which isn't even on the charts in TCOYF... Was starting to think I was wierd!!! My temp today is 36 and this is post ov according to cramps and cm so thought it'd be higher? I do sleep with my mouth open quite a lot tho... Think I may resort to (ahem) non-oral temping as it's supposed to be more accurate. Although if my hubby finds out he may leave the baby obsessed crazy wonder what's going on!!!

nenehooo · 28/11/2011 20:06

Ps my thermometer is just a bog standard sainsbury's one that cost £3... so maybe THAT'S why my temps are crazy?!

moggle · 28/11/2011 20:15

Zara that is so exciting!! Woo!! Btw, no need to wear a mask when doing kitty litter, toxoplasmosis isn't airborne. (assuming that's what you're worried about). Also, I've heard that when you get pg blood tests done, you can ask them to check for toxo antibodies, if youhave them, then you've had toxo before so can't catch it again. Obviously, don't tell DH/DPif that's the case, but means there's definitely no need to worry (about that, anyway..)

Awayinamangercooper · 29/11/2011 08:48

nenehoo it needs to show temps to 2 decimal places.

Zara1984 · 29/11/2011 12:21

Hello everyone!!

awayinamanger and CEDR - it's all good, DH is DEFINITELY onboard with TTC (ie it's not just my project) - he's been wanting a kid for the past 5 years! My offer of chores etc for the month was my half-in-jest way of getting him over the line. :D I did make him his favourite dessert on the weekend (don't think I'll be getting out of making it for him every week until the end of December) but he hasn't enforced the household chores or kitty litter bargain. :D He's very happy and excited!

moggle great info!! yes DH has not enforced my agreement to do all the kitty litter changes so he's still doing it - fine by me! You must be close to starting TTC if I recall from previous posts?

All those who are after a Boots digi temping thermometer - I'm not using mine since I bought my CBFM. Used it for about a month - temperature taken orally - disinfected with Dettol each time. Not sure if that is really gross or not to offer it - would happily give to to any of my friends but nobody is TTC - but I'm not using it, so will happy post to anyone that wants it!! I'm one of those de-cluttering types that likes to get rid of stuff if I'm no longer using it.
