LAF77 · 27/09/2011 08:52

Just found out you are pregnant after a previous miscarriage and too nervous to move over the to pregnancy boards? Freaking out about spotting, cramping, symptoms (or lack there of) and nervously awaiting your first scan? Here is a lovely place for lot's of support, hand holding and problem sharing.

Courtesy of owlbooty here are the Ten Commandments of the Freak Out Room.

  1. Thou shalt check thy knickers to the point of insanity until the baby actually arrives.
  2. Thou shalt also check the loo roll post-wipeage (sorry, gross, I know)
  3. Thou shalt bore thy physician and midwife to tears with the mentalling.
  4. And thy husband/boyfriend/family/neighbour's cat.
  5. Thou shalt obsess over the absence of symptoms.
  6. And the presence of symptoms.
  7. And the fluctuation of symptoms.
  8. Thou shalt pee on a vast number of sticks and keep ClearBlue and First Response in business.
  9. The day before any scan extreme mentalling is permitted without recourse to the Haddock.
10. Self-diagnosis with Dr Google is Forbidden.

The Haddock will be applied liberally to all transgressors.

lady that is such great news :)

LAF I felt my baby kick around 15-16 weeks - little flutters.

BlueCrane · 06/10/2011 14:53

lady Grin at you scan and the space-prawn!! Glad you enjoyed the cake even if the heartburn spoilt the memory of it slightly!

lime congrats on getting to your milestone! My bean didn't get past 5-6 weeks last time and I am 6+2 today but won't be calm until I see it on the scan and heartbeat in a couple of weeks time (blighted ovum last time)

digi I'm really not looking forward to going into the scan room - any scan room that is - as that's where we found out our sad news last time. DH is dreading it too and work have just told him he can't have th day off! Thankfully he works shifts and providing everything goes to time then he can be there but if they're running late then it's all gonna be a bit stressful!

LAF a lot of it is about trying to stay positive and think differently this time around and trying to find positive in as much as possible - I didn't have much in the way of symptoms last time but when I'm feeling super sick this time I keep telling myself what a good thing it is!!

Right...back to work! Can't believe how much better I feel today after going to bed at 9pm last night!! Will be a late night out with the girls tonight though so anticipating feeling rough tomorrow!!

shellshock7 · 06/10/2011 17:16

Livin have you had your hospital appointment yet?

Lime just post whenever and whatever you like / need to...I don't think you anyone gets offended by me me me post...and I find a haddocking is welcome every now and then!

Lady great news re scan (and cake!) Smile

LAF I thought boy cos of the upwards angle....but everyone else says girl as it is parallel to the spine, as per this website?!? baby2see.com/gender/study_ultrasound.html Only ten more sleeps till scan so don't know why I can't wait, but I can't!!

Sorry you had a rough time with the doppler, I have learnt to out it away and try again with a very full bladder after times like yours...weirdly it is getting harder to find at the mo as well, I assumed it would get easier??

Velvetcu · 06/10/2011 18:28

can't remember if I've said this before but for those nub theorists - I had a private scan at 12 weeks by one of the leading experts in nub theory. He has only been wrong twice in the last 20 years. He said we were having a boy and that it was very clear from the nub position. We are having a girl :)

Moominsummermadness · 06/10/2011 18:58

AAAAAARRRRGGGGGGGHHHHH!!! (sorry, that was me freaking out about the 12 week scan tomorrow!!) Thanks Digi, will post on here as soon as I get home from the hospital

Mouse, welcome, and we're all here for you.

Lime, sorry to hear you've not been feeling great, I found your skype comment hilarious.

Lady, lovely news. And glad you ate some cake!

Velvetcu · 06/10/2011 19:07

Good luck tomorrow moomin pre-scan freakouts are perfectly acceptable. What time is your scan?

Moominsummermadness · 06/10/2011 19:20

Thanks, Velvet, it's 1.30pm. Don't know how I'm going to get through the morning at work first!!!

KatAndKit · 06/10/2011 19:34

Ooh moomin good luck tomorrow! All my scans have been at 9.00, the next one will be at 8.30 I don't think I could concentrate on doing any work before a scan.
Will be thinking of you tomorrow and looking forward to hearing about it.

googietheegg · 06/10/2011 19:44

Hello all, how are we getting on? I've been basically freaking out today as I had a tiny pin prick of blood in my knickers, which is how my mmc started last time. I went to the hospital and I've got a scan tomorrow, but from the internal the doctor said there's no sign of bleeding and the cervix is closed. WTF does this all mean?! Anyone had this before?

KatAndKit · 06/10/2011 20:00

I've had it every pregnancy. I believe it is the irritable cervix thing. I understand you freaking out though. It is the natural response to seeing blood. Good luck with the scan - hope you are worrying about nothing, have all fingers crossed for you.

LAF77 · 06/10/2011 21:57

googie the same thing happened to me a couple of weeks ago. It happened after I was, ahem, straining on the loo. It seemed to come from the front, but was probably related to the back. Hope all is well with you tomorrow.

good luck moomin my 12 week scan was in the afternoon and I had a total meltdown in the morning. Try to find something repetitive that doesn't require a lot of concentration to do in the AM, cos I'm sure you'll struggle to focus on much.

Thank you both, I'm trying so hard not to freak out but I keep checking my boobs are still sore and if my nipples look pointy!! I'm thinking a closed cervix is a good sign right?!

Moomin - good luck!

Biscuitsandtea · 06/10/2011 22:05

Good luck for scans tomorrow Googie and Moomin

Thinking of you both xx

digitalgirl · 07/10/2011 07:41

Good luck to googie too. I had a tiny bit of spotting shortly after having sex - was so stressful seeing that as all my mc's have started in a similar way. But the scan reassured me all was well - fingers crossed it's the same for you.

moomin everything crossed.

stitchinline · 07/10/2011 10:06

Sending happy scan wishes to googie and moomin

shellshock pillow is definitely growing on me. - just took a bit to get used to I think.

2 weeks til my next scan and I am going to be climbing the walls. Still not feeling anything yet which is freaking me out. Btw I found out at 16 week scan it's a pink one. Wondering what they will say at the next one Smile

googietheegg · 07/10/2011 10:44

Thanks so much for the reassurance - this place is great. I've been trying not to think about the whole thing and then a bit of blood comes and I'm mentally.
Does anyone know if a closed cervix now means no miscarriage, or can that come later and it's still all happening? We haven't had sex tbh, so it's not that.

digitalgirl how are you getting on now? Your advice is always very wise!

LAF did you have a scan afterwards? Are you all fine now? Needed the haddock?

kat thanks, I hope you're right. How are you?

KatAndKit · 07/10/2011 11:00

A closed cervix means that you are not definitely going to miscarry. Obviously it doesn't prevent your cervix from opening later. but think positive, if it isn't happening now, then every day that passes your risk goes down. Even proper spotting/bleeding does not necessarily mean miscarriage. The odds are well in your favour.

You can get the cervical irritation thing without having sex. Have you had any thrush or anything to upset things in there? If you found the pinprick of blood by rootling around up there it could be that it was your fingernail!

KatAndKit · 07/10/2011 11:00
LAF77 · 07/10/2011 11:17

Hi googie I had a hospital appointment a few days later, where I got to see my baby in an unexpected scan, so my mind was at ease. A closed cervix means that you are not miscarrying. When the cervix is open, there is nothing you can do to stop the miscarriage, so you aren't miscarrying now, if it is closed.

Every time I go to the loo, I check for blood. It is a reflex. Someone used the loo at work yesterday and there was some blood in the bowl when I went in after. I started retching and nearly brought up food. I just can't cope with it.

Oh laf that sounds rubbish.

Moominsummermadness · 07/10/2011 14:41

Hello ladies,

It's the worst news, I'm afraid. Baby died at 7 weeks and 4 days, so a week after I saw it on the previous scan. It was just awful, I could see that there was something wrong straightaway. There was a large sac, but a tiny baby. I've got to go back to EPAU on Monday morning, to discuss whether I want to wait to miscarry naturally or have surgery. I will opt for the surgery, as it's already been there for 5 weeks (although the midwife said that the shock might make it come away), but I don't really know what to expect as the other 3 miscarriages I had were very early and happened naturally.

Gutted.

scarletfingernail · 07/10/2011 14:45

Oh Moomin I'm so, so sorry Sad

I know there's nothing anyone can say or do to help when it's as raw as this.

I hope you're being looked after and that you have lots of support in RL.

You know we're here for you if you want to continue talking about it.

KatAndKit · 07/10/2011 14:47

Oh moomin I am so so very sorry. Gutted must not even begin to describe how you must be feeling. this is such a cruel way to find out aswell.

If you want information about the surgery I will be happy to talk to you about what to expect.

Sending hugs and thinking of you at this horrible time. Where are you up to with testing? I hope you get some sort of answers. Take good care of yourself and I hope you are being well looked after at home.

Moominsummermadness · 07/10/2011 14:53

Thank you Scarlet and Kat. We were given no information at the hospital at all, just told that we had two options, but they didn't explain anything about the surgery at all. Just gave me an appointment card for the EPAU and sent us on our way. I haven't had any testing at all, because although this is the 4th miscarriage, I haven't had 3 in a row.

I will sign off here now, I don't want to upset anyone else who may be worrying about it happening to them too. I wish you all loads of luck, and healthy, happy pregnancies with lovely babies at the end. I hope that I will be back before long. xxxx

BlueCrane · 07/10/2011 14:54

moomin so so sorry to hear your news Sad
