Just found out you are pregnant after a previous miscarriage and too nervous to move over the to pregnancy boards? Freaking out about spotting, cramping, symptoms (or lack there of) and nervously awaiting your first scan? Here is a lovely place for lot's of support, hand holding and problem sharing.

Courtesy of owlbooty here are the Ten Commandments of the Freak Out Room.

  1. Thou shalt check thy knickers to the point of insanity until the baby actually arrives.
  2. Thou shalt also check the loo roll post-wipeage (sorry, gross, I know)
  3. Thou shalt bore thy physician and midwife to tears with the mentalling.
  4. And thy husband/boyfriend/family/neighbour's cat.
  5. Thou shalt obsess over the absence of symptoms.
  6. And the presence of symptoms.
  7. And the fluctuation of symptoms.
  8. Thou shalt pee on a vast number of sticks and keep ClearBlue and First Response in business.
  9. The day before any scan extreme mentalling is permitted without recourse to the Haddock.
10. Self-diagnosis with Dr Google is Forbidden.

The Haddock will be applied liberally to all transgressors.

How weird- I couldn't find the thread to start with!

Had my booking appointment with GP and then midwife today, they were both very nice and understanding about me being a bit wobbly about it all. The midwife was asking about my plans for the birth (I had a homebirth with DD3), and I told her that at the moment I can't actually imagine that I'm going to have a baby at the end of this! I saw a fleeting look of concern, but she was good about and said that she would leave that part for now, and we can discuss it nearer the time.

AmandinePoulain · 07/02/2012 20:24

Congratulations piglet Smile, I remember you from the common room Smile

Well done for taking that first step moomin Smile

I finally heard from the mw this evening, she's doing my home visit on Friday, which means bloods next week, and she'll send in a request form in for my scan so I'm guessing that'll be the week after next - eeek!

Moominsummermadness · 15/02/2012 11:09

It's gone very quiet in here! I hope that it's because nobody feels the need to be doing any freaking out!

I've had my 12 week scan appointment come through for 12th March, I'm now 8+1. Hoping that the next few weeks go by quickly. Have been feeling very sick (and throwing up some days- Monday was so bad that I had to come home from work), but I can't help having a little wobble every now and again. I had a nightmare the other night about losing my pregnancy symptoms, then having a MMC, I woke up and prodded my boobs to see if they were still sore! I guess it isn't very long ago that I had my MMC, and while I'm very happy to be pregnant again and hoping that everything goes ok this time, there is still 'the fear' lurking inside me.

Hope everyone else is ok, and that your pregnancies are going smoothly!

AmandinePoulain · 20/02/2012 12:04

I've had a lovely scan this morning. We've got a little wriggler measuring 13 weeks which is slightly ahead of my dates Grin and no bleed seen Grin

panpipe · 21/02/2012 16:37

Aww congrats Amandine that's lovely news. Hope you can begin to relax a bit more now.

Moomin I read somewhere the other day that your dreams can be a lot more vivid during pg so hopefully it's just your overactive hormone imagination playing tricks on you. I can totally agree with you though about that 'fear' still lurking away in the background.

I had my 16w MW appt last week and heard a lovely heartbeat. I think the MW was a bit taken aback when my first reaction was "oh good, it's still alive" - see comment re constant fear above! I know it sounds a bit mad having now seen a very lively bean and heard it again, but I still can't help it!

I've been having a bit more of a worry over the last couple of days as I've been having periody-style cramps and shooting pains. Wondering if this is normal or if I've got to the stage yet where your ligaments start stretching? Yet another thing to add to the freak-out list!

Moominsummermadness · 21/02/2012 19:42

Amandine, lovely news, so happy for you! You too, Panpipe, I understand why you had that reaction though! I guess it's something that a lot of pregnant women take for granted, but hearing the heartbeat when you've previously miscarried, is amazing. I really hope that I get to that stage- it seemd so far off at the moment!

Counting down the weeks til my scan- was feeling a bit worried today at work when I didn't feel much nausea all day ( depsite throwing up first thing!), but it came back with a vengeance when I got home- it's been a struggle to cook dinner for DCs, DH work's til 1am on Tuesday nights. I think I'm just going to have a bath now and have an early night, when I feel like this the only thing that seems to help is going to bed!

Have you ladies all had the flu jab? I had it yesterday- I feel as though my arm is going to drop off! Immediately after I had it I started worrying that it might not be as safe for the baby as they say it is. I need a big slap with the haddock.

Moominsummermadness · 21/02/2012 19:44

Oh, and Panpipe, I got stretching pains with DCs from around your gestation. Try not to worry (says she, the chief worrier!).

confu3ed · 23/02/2012 14:01

Congratulations on the scan Amandine!
Just a quick one from me as at work on my phone. Had 20 week scan yesterday and all it very good, a bit bigger than due date but not enough to change it. Oh and team blue which we are thrilled about! Finally starting to feel now, I am huge and having a boy :0) x

Moominsummermadness · 23/02/2012 19:43

Congratulations on the 20 week scan Confu3ed! Lovely news.

I've not had very good day. I woke at 3am for one of my many nightly trips to the loo, and noticed that I'd had some bleeding. Was only light, and brown, so presumably old blood, but after not having any for 3 weeks, very worrying, especially as it happened last time and I had a MMC. I called the EPAU (had been instructed by them at 6 weeks, should I have any further bleeding to self-refer, and community midwife reiterated this). They were awkward at first, saying I needed to go to GP for a referral, but when I dissolved into tears on the phone, explained that I had been told to self-refer as last time GP was very unhelpful and would not refer me, she said reception would call me back with a scan appointment. So I've got an appointment at 9am. Very scared about MMC again, but am still puking for England and feeling exhausted. Only the scan will tell me what I need to know, I guess.

jetstar · 23/02/2012 22:06

Congratulations to everyone on the good scan news!
Fingers crossed for you tomorrow Moomin Do you have someone to go with you?
We have had a few traumas here this week but still ok so far, agree with you all re. the worrying. If it was an Olympic sport then I would be the gold medallist! My midwife said something the other day that reminded me that the worrying doesn't and after the baby arrives - you just have something that you can see to worry about! So I guess I'll have to learn to live with it Smile
I am thinking about doing a course in Natal Hypnotherapy (to help with the stress!), does anyone know anything about it?

Moominsummermadness · 24/02/2012 13:28

Thanks Jetstar, I had the scan, MIL came with me (took us about half an hour to walk down the corridor, as she was a community midwife until 2 years ago, and everyone wanted to stop her and chat!). All is well, straightaway I could see the little baby, waving its arms and kicking its legs. They've put me at 10 weeks, 2 days, so 6 days further on from 6 week scan, but more in line with my dates (spot on infact). They said that the cause of the bleeding is a small haematoma under the sac, they aren't worried about it as it's so small compared to the size of the baby. I'll probably get old bits of blood coming out in dribs and drabs, so at least I know to expect it. Was very relieved, and have a lovely pic to show DH later. Will try to relax a bit until 12 week scan!

Your midwife is right, you will always worry about something, especially if you are that way inclined, my DH tells me off for it all the time. You can't help it though, but Natal Hypnotherapy sounds good. I don't know anything about it though, I'm afraid! Anything might be worth a try.

Moominsummermadness · 24/02/2012 13:30

That should have said 6 days on from 6 week scan dates!

panpipe · 24/02/2012 14:00

That's great news moomin; very relieved for you!

AmandinePoulain · 24/02/2012 19:18

Great news moomin Grin

Okay, new worries of the week (now my scans finished with I appear to need to find new things to mental about Hmm) - my placenta is anterior. Which didn't worry me at all until I let dr google get involved - now I'm terrified of the placenta adhering to my cs scar and causing bleeding and meaning I'll need a hysterectomy. Someone slap me please Grin. Plus my friend's son has hand foot and mouth, which in very rare cases can cause a mc. I saw him on Sunday and don't remember if I've had it before, even though I've got zero symptoms I'm still concerned. Anyone got that fish handy?

PieMistress · 24/02/2012 20:55

Sorry I haven't posted here in ages! I normally posted on the other TTC/PG after MC thread but I haven't been doing that much either as it's been head in sand time really!

Had my 20w scan last week and all looks to be fine (at the moment!) I still find it hard to believe I might have a baby in June and 6w before my 40th (another reason for me to freak out being an old mare!!). I finally told work at 21w although to be fair most of them had guessed as it's quite obvious now!

Great news on your 13w scan amandine. I've never heard of your new worry about an anterior placenta and CS scar? I think it's very common to have both so please don't worry! Are you going to have another CS or go for a VBAC? I had an EMCS with DS after a 30hr labour and failed forceps as he got stuck so am hoping I get the option to have an elective CS this time as his birth was really awful for both of us. Poor mite was badly bruised but made it out safe and sound which was the most important thing. Sorry for the total tangent there!!

Great to hear that all is well with bubs moomin you must have been worried sick. phew xx Do you have a date for your 12w scan or did they give you a due date based on that scan?

panpipe I was exactly the same at my 16w appt! I recorded the heartbeat on my mobile phone I was so happy! I've been seeing the same MW I saw through my first pregnancy and with the MC and she's been amazing and totally understands my fears. Doesn't stop me blubbing at every appt though!

jetstar I found acupuncture amazing for helping my stress levels. I fluctuate with being incredibly stressed because of work and worrying about baby then trying to get a grip and relax! One of my chums had a natal hypnotheraphy CD and really rated it for helping her to relax.

confu3ed we must be due at a similar time? I'm due 28th June. Congrats on being team blue! How exciting ! We have decided not to find out (they won't tell you anyway here, you have to pay privately for a gender scan). ooo lots of names discussions for boys! With DS we really struggled and took 3 days after his birth to finally decide on a name but we have one already if this is a boy, don't know why we didn't like it first time round but do now? Must be the hormones!

Congratulations on the new arrival piglet :) :)

How many weeks are you lollopy?

Sorry if i've missed anyone! Catching up with the Brits from Tuesday and enjoying a pizza! I've put on so much weight - eeks! Although was already a stone heavier when I conceived due to comfort eating after the miscarriage!

Moominsummermadness · 25/02/2012 10:29

Thanks ladies!

Congrats on the 20w scan piemistress. Halfway through already! I have got a date for the 12 week scan, it's 12th March, so not long to wait. I got the appointment thorugh surprisingly quickly after my booking appointment, think my GP was on the ball that day, I got a flu jab letter the next day, and my maternity prescription exemption certificate a week later! I'll be having the nuchal fold test during the scan, although I'm already mentalling about that now!

Amandine, try not to worry. It must be really common for ladies who have had previous c-sections to have anterior placentas, as it's one of the normal positions for the placenta to be in. From what I've read, it's very rare for it to cause problems. Have a little dose of of the haddock Smile. I need to give myself a slap too- DH went to see his family for a night of drinking and socialising last night. In between my evening puking trips to the bathroom, I used Dr Google to look up haematomas in pregnancy. Despite the reassurance I'd had from EPAU, I couldn't help the mentalling! Why do we do it to ourselves!!!

AmandinePoulain · 25/02/2012 17:27

moomin, I had a heamatoma too at 6 weeks, there's no sign of it now. I still occasionally have some pink or brown cm which always freaks me out a bit but it is all fine Smile
