Just found out you are pregnant after a previous miscarriage and too nervous to move over the to pregnancy boards? Freaking out about spotting, cramping, symptoms (or lack there of) and nervously awaiting your first scan? Here is a lovely place for lot's of support, hand holding and problem sharing.

Courtesy of owlbooty here are the Ten Commandments of the Freak Out Room.

  1. Thou shalt check thy knickers to the point of insanity until the baby actually arrives.
  2. Thou shalt also check the loo roll post-wipeage (sorry, gross, I know)
  3. Thou shalt bore thy physician and midwife to tears with the mentalling.
  4. And thy husband/boyfriend/family/neighbour's cat.
  5. Thou shalt obsess over the absence of symptoms.
  6. And the presence of symptoms.
  7. And the fluctuation of symptoms.
  8. Thou shalt pee on a vast number of sticks and keep ClearBlue and First Response in business.
  9. The day before any scan extreme mentalling is permitted without recourse to the Haddock.
10. Self-diagnosis with Dr Google is Forbidden.

The Haddock will be applied liberally to all transgressors.

Hi,
I hope everyone's well. I'm feeling very deflated - just found some pink stuff post wipe :(

googietheegg · 22/12/2011 16:58

Hello cat and ostrich - welcome! Ostrich, pink can be totally normal so don't panic unnecessarily, although I totally know how worrying it is.

I'm now 19 weeks and hopefully all is well, although I'd have a reassurance scan every day if I could. I've had the odd split second sharp pain in my fanjo last couple of days - has any one else had this? I just don't know what pains are normal baby stretching and what isn't. I've had plenty of fluttery kicks too so that's got to be good.

PieMistress · 22/12/2011 16:59

Hi Ostrich and welcome to the thread. Please try not to worry (I know, easier said that done when you've had a m/c before!). How much was there? Any chance you can get up to your EPU for a scan to try and put your mind at rest? Have you DTD recently? It might be cervical erosion perhaps from that?

PieMistress · 22/12/2011 17:00

googie I get those sharp pains too, they last for a second and are like a sharp stabbing pain down there, but I was getting them very occasionally before I got pregnant so am not worrying too much at the moment?

googietheegg · 22/12/2011 17:08

Thanks pie - have you asked anyone about it? I'm in France and there isn't really anywhere 'walk in' to get reassurance that I know of.

I had my cervix checked at the scan last week and all was fine, so I'm worried that an incompetent cervix can just 'happen'?! God this is all sooooo worrying!!!!!

Ostrich78 · 22/12/2011 20:54

Thanks for the welcome ladies.
We DTD this morning, it was only a tiny amount of pink so it could have been that (thanks pie x). I just thought the worst but feeling a little more positive now seeing as the pinkness has gone. For now.. ahhh!

Googie that's lovely you're feeling flutters, it must be very reassuring x

PieMistress · 22/12/2011 21:43

googie haven't asked anybody no ..... I have been getting them infrequently (ie/ less than every 2 months) on and off for a while and just one of things I've not thought too much about as it only lasts for a split second?? Maybe I should! Where abouts in France are you BTW? I lived there on/off for 4 years in my early 20s :)

ostrich ahhhhh, that might very well explain it! I've read cervical erosion can be quite common.

CatAmongstThePoppies · 22/12/2011 21:54

Ostrich glad the pinkness has gone, things like that are really scary. Fingers crossed it stays away!

Googie I've never got as far along in pg as you are now, so don't have any direct experience. But, all throughout this pg I have had random pains of all sorts and everything has so far been ok. I think because there's a lot of stuff stretching and nerves sorting themselves out your body can sometimes complain a bit!

Quick question - for those of you who've had more than one scan, which one do you use for working out how far along you are or your due date? I've had three scans so far (around 8, 12 and 14 weeks) and they've differed by up to 9 days. I would use the 12 wk one, but it was the most unlikely - it would mean I ovulated on day 5 of a standard 28/29 day cycle, which I know didn't happen. Day 5 I still had AF and we definitely hadn't DTD by then! Based on EWCM I think I ovulated around day 12 or 13. Should I just take an average of all three scan dates?

PieMistress · 23/12/2011 08:29

cat did they put your due date on your notes after the 12w scan (it's normally the offical dating scan?). My due date has been brought forward a week which is very surprising as I chart/use OPKs so know that I didn't ovulate on CD7! Plus I also had a scan on CD14 that showed I hadn't ovulated yet and the sonographer said to go home and SWI that night! Same thing happened with DS but it was only 5 days and not a whole week forward (and he arrived 5 days 'late' but bang on the date I expected him to based on my ovulation date!). My concern with it being a week ahead is that it's very likely I'll have to have another CS and they normally do this a week before your due date so in theory that will be 2 weeks earlier than he/she should be born.

Sorry for the waffle! Feel like i'm getting waaaaaay ahead of myself here in even letting myself think about the birth just yet!

Anyway! To summarise they should have put a date on your pregnancy notes and this is the one they will use ...

LimeFlower · 23/12/2011 14:12

Hello everybody:)
Sorry for not naming and replying but just finished work and looooaaaads to do at home,so just popped in to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and pg uneventful one Xmas Smile

Twittwooo · 23/12/2011 14:34

I just came on to do the same as Lime. Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas - I hope everyone has a lovely, relaxing time. xx

PieMistress · 23/12/2011 19:15

Merry Christmas everybody too!!

I phoned for my nuchal results today but weren't ready :( They did say it would take 10 days from Monday but I called on the off chance. I was hoping to share our news at Christmas but will hang fire, just in case.

Now .... what is the concensus again on smoked salmon? Xmas Smile

PieMistress · 23/12/2011 19:29

Hi amandine !! I remember you from one of the other ttc after m/c threads (I think!) Congrats!!! What a fantastic Christmas present!!

Today is the due date of the baby we m/c in June so it's been an emotional day here :(

digitalgirl · 23/12/2011 19:57

amandine/Tina congratulations!!!! What a fantastic (if a little nerve-wracking) Christmas present. Very very happy for you!

Waves to all, hope you all have a very relaxed Christmas.

KnitterNotTwitter · 23/12/2011 20:53

oooh - congratulations amandine/tina what a lovely xmas treat :)

Twittwooo · 23/12/2011 23:16

Conrgatulations amandine and welcome. Lovely news!

Pie, I've already eaten some smoked mackerel pate, which also contains smoked salmon. I have read that smoked fish is okay. I know pate isn't supposed to be, but I'm not classing this as pate as such, it's really just fish mixed with soft cheese as far as I can tell! I hope I'm right. It's not even Christmas eve and I can already tell festive food is going to be tricky!

CatAmongstThePoppies · 23/12/2011 23:39

Welcome Amandine and congratulations on your BFP! Xmas Smile

Pie Hope you managed to get through today ok - due dates are really emotional times aren't they? Thanks for the advice re. the multiple scans and different dates - looks like it'll be the 12 wk one they'll use for me. I'm not really thinking about due dates, it's more that I want to be able to count the weeks and have a mini celebration at each new wk I get to!

Pie/Twittwoo I've read mixed advice about smoked salmon so am playing safe and steering clear, but it's probably fine. I just know if I had it and felt a bit dodgy afterwards I would be paranoid for the rest of the pg, so am saving myself the stress - plenty of other things to freak out about instead!

Ostrich Hope the pinkness has stayed away today.

Merry Christmas to everyone!

tumblebug · 24/12/2011 00:10

Merry Christmas from me too!

Amandine congratulations! Try not to freak out too much, enjoy Christmas (says me - big panic last week, calmed down a bit now probably due to distraction!).

Smoked salmon - I read somewhere it's ok, that's good enough for me! I think pate's a bit dodgier though, even veggie. More to do with processing / storage than the actual ingredients, and past incidents. I get round this by making it and not storing too long!

AmandinePoulain · 24/12/2011 08:15

Thanks for the welcomes! Smile

What are everyone's thoughts on baby aspirin? The research is so mixed and I can't decide. The fertility specialist we saw in the summer was non committal and said it wouldn't do any harm but I can't imagine my gp being impressed! With Christmas I won't be able to see anyone until next week either Confused

hairytaleofnewyork · 24/12/2011 08:57

amandine cgratulations. After 3 losses I've been taking 150 aspirin (I'm now 36 weeks and supposed to stop). I don't know. If that is what has helped this time, but the consultant said it is not harmful and that I should take it from getting a bfp.

AmandinePoulain · 24/12/2011 11:14

I've just taken an aspirin after mulling it over and driving dh demented! Grin

Thanks hairy, are you the same hairy that was so kind after my mmc on the mc board way back in February? If so, thank you, you really helped back then. Good luck with the last few weeks of your pregnancy Smile

LAF77 · 24/12/2011 14:22

Amandine you are right, there isnt conclusive evidence and opinions on aspirin. Some books, chemists, GPs will advise against baby aspirin (75 mg) but like hairy I am on 150mg of aspirin until 34 weeks. I've been diagnosed with high MA levels in pregnancy after investigations at St. Mary's hospital recurrent miscarriage clinic.

Aspirin thins your blood and could inhibit the implantation of the placenta, but alternatively, blood that is too "thick" will also prevent the placenta from growing.

So, I wouldn't advise you either way, but just wanted to add my experience to your questions.

jetstar · 24/12/2011 14:33

Hi Amandine, I am another one who is taking 75mg aspirin (I'm 15 weeks). I was advised to start taking it by consultant after my miscarriages and some investigations and my next pregnancy resulted in my DD! So I am in the pro camp! My MW this time said there is no harm in taking it and it is helpful for a variety of conditions.
And I eat smoked salmon (but no pate) Smile

Have a Calm and Happy Christmas everyone! Xmas Grin

PieMistress · 24/12/2011 16:37

I can't offer any advice on the asprin amandine, sorry. I don't take it and didn't really think about it? I am taking plenty of B vits though (especially B6).

I've eaten smoken salmon before in this pregnancy (at a wedding and a christmas dinner dance) and it's given me a real taster for it! I think the FSA website says it's fine, AFAIK there is a very very very mild listeria risk but that's it?
