Just found out you are pregnant after a previous miscarriage and too nervous to move over the to pregnancy boards? Freaking out about spotting, cramping, symptoms (or lack there of) and nervously awaiting your first scan? Here is a lovely place for lot's of support, hand holding and problem sharing.

Courtesy of owlbooty here are the Ten Commandments of the Freak Out Room.

  1. Thou shalt check thy knickers to the point of insanity until the baby actually arrives.
  2. Thou shalt also check the loo roll post-wipeage (sorry, gross, I know)
  3. Thou shalt bore thy physician and midwife to tears with the mentalling.
  4. And thy husband/boyfriend/family/neighbour's cat.
  5. Thou shalt obsess over the absence of symptoms.
  6. And the presence of symptoms.
  7. And the fluctuation of symptoms.
  8. Thou shalt pee on a vast number of sticks and keep ClearBlue and First Response in business.
  9. The day before any scan extreme mentalling is permitted without recourse to the Haddock.
10. Self-diagnosis with Dr Google is Forbidden.

The Haddock will be applied liberally to all transgressors.

Wow hairy 35 weeks, when did that happen??! Grin

hairytaleofnewyork · 17/12/2011 19:46

Oh, about 33 weeks ago Grin

PieMistress · 17/12/2011 21:18

I still lurk on this thread! Xmas Blush Have got my 12w scan / nuchal test on Monday morning and totally and utterly bricking it.

googietheegg · 18/12/2011 01:22

pie huge luck for tomorrow morning - it'll be lovely to hear your good news. Well done on 12 weeks!

Twittwooo · 18/12/2011 07:59

Congratulations on getting to 12 weeks pie and I hope tomorrow goes well! Try not to worry too much, although we all know how hard it is. x

LAF77 · 18/12/2011 08:56

Hi ladies! Can I join you please? I think I'm 5 weeks pregnant after mc in august (bled 11+4 but baby measured less than 5 weeks). Have 2 y/o ds. Surprised how freaked out I am. Convinced myself in the week my thyroid is overactive (it isn't. I am on thyroxine and had a slightly funny test so wasn't completely irrational but my Gp now must think I'm crazy). I'm also worried that my boobs aren't hurting. Is it possible to be pregnant without sore boobs? Occasional nausea and feeling bloated but that's it for symptoms. How do you survive the first few weeks??

Glad I checked my post, I had an operative thyroid and my books weren't sore, silly phone.

PieMistress · 18/12/2011 19:47

Hi tumble and welcome! I didn't have sore boobs when I was pregnant with DS, nor with this pregnancy really (although it's still early doors). My nausea also vanished at about 10 weeks so i'm very nervous things have gone wrong.

Thank you for all the good luck wishes for tomorrow googie, twitt, LAFF , it really means a lot! It's at 8.45am (managed to change it from 3.30pm so get it out of the way sooner!). I am also rapidly approaching the due date from the baby I m/c (23rd December) so my emotions are all over the place at the moment. Am also panicking about my age (39) and IF the baby is alive what kind of nuchal risk result I will get. I was 37 when I had DS and don't remember panicking quite so much about my age then

free am so happy to read you've seen a heartbeat! That is amazing! Go Girl & Mini Free - hang on in there! :) :)

hairy I can remember when you were in single figures! 35w is AMAZING! mini hairy will be here in no time at all! :)

knitter If all is well with baby I will be holding out as long as possible before telling anybody and won't be putting it on FB. If it were to all go wrong I'd rather only have to tell close friends/family/colleagues rather than the mass on FB (as much as I do love FB!

jetstar 14w is a brilliant milestone! That feels miles away from my 12 weeks!

confu3ed I could very easily become a scan addict, have only had one at 9w which showed a baby and heartbeat but that was a very very long 3 weeks ago. I actually contemplated one this afternoon as am bricking going back to the hospital tomorrow where they told me i'd m/c (different ward thankfully)

Sorry for not name checking everybody, I hope you are all well :) I am going to pamper myself with a facemask, enjoy a pizza and try to sleep (mmmmm) although my mind is racing at a hundred times a minute just now. At least i'll know one way or the other by 9am!

LAF77 · 19/12/2011 06:29

Good luck this AM, pie I'll be thinking of you. Well done for moving the scan. Waiting around all day is the worst!

PieMistress · 19/12/2011 10:12

There is a baby! He/she is measuring 12+4 :) It was so stressful though this morning as traffic was horrendous so we were late! There were tears shed too. Luckily the sonographer was really lovely and spent ages showing us our baby. Now a long 10 days wait for my nuchal result!

KatAndKit · 19/12/2011 10:17

Yay for fantastic scan news piemistress am so glad it all went well.

Twittwooo · 19/12/2011 11:06

Great news Pie, that's wonderful! I hope you get your nuchal result soon, I'm still waiting for mine and my scan was over 3 weeks ago! I'm hoping no news is good news. x

PieMistress · 19/12/2011 11:30

Thanks peeps! twitt they said to me that if they didn't get in touch then I can assume I'm low risk but i said that I want to know my actual risk statistic so they will give me a phone. However I've been warned that because of my age (39) there is a good chance it will be high risk.

Velvetcu · 19/12/2011 12:21

Lovely scan news pie Grin

KnitterNotTwitter · 19/12/2011 13:42

Great scan news pie with the Nuchal results make sure they give you your background risk and calculated risk... My background risk was 1:99 and then fell to 1:2000 once they'd added in the bloods and measurements. I got a lot of comfort from knowing the way it had dropped from 1:99... where as if they'd just told me 1:2000 I would have worried that it wasn't as good as it could be!

Having a minor freak out today - my bump seems to have shrunk and sagged and I don't feel at all pregnant... don't remember this from when I was pg with DS... anyone else? I'm 18 weeks today so thought I would be past the fluctuating symptoms stage...

Twittwooo · 19/12/2011 15:34

Knitter I don't have any advice I'm afraid, but sorry to hear you're having a minor freak out. I think our bodies are changing and stretching so much at the moment that it's possibly just that, and you may have had some bloating which has now gone down. My bump is getting there, but feels different every day and at different times of the day if that helps.

I also had a tiny freak out last night - I woke to feel my stomach was really hard, on the left hand side of my bump, and I had some light stomach pains or cramping too. I'm not sure what it was, but I did a bit of googling (never the best idea) and there's some evidence to suggest it could be early braxton hicks, but at just over 16 weeks it seems too early. Any ideas? I'm trying not to worry too much, but every day there seems to be something niggling away at me!

I also phoned today about my nuchal results, as I expected them last week. I was told at the time that if I'm high risk it will be a phone call and if I'm low risk it will be a letter, but today I was told that the results should have gone to my community midwife! I called them and I'm waiting for them to get back in touch. So, for those of you who are waiting, bear in mind that this could happen!

PieMistress · 19/12/2011 19:45

knitter is your background risk just based on age? Will need to google and see what it is for a wrinkly 39 year old! I know i'm a few weeks behind you but my belly has definitely been increasing/decreasing in size over the past couple of weeks. When I was pg with DS I pretty much had zilch symptoms. Sorry to hear you are stressing, if you are really worried I would go and speak to your MW just for reassurance.

twitt I would chase too, 3 weeks is an awfully long time to be waiting! We aren't telling anybody until 16w (if poss). I can remember stretching and tweaking type pains with DS (especially when I would change position in my sleep and they would sometimes wake me up) but it was just my body adjusting xx

Twittwooo · 19/12/2011 20:27

I think it probably is just my body adjusting Pie, and I hope that's the case with you too Knitter.

The midwife got back to me - she had checked my notes and I am low risk, so we're really pleased. She didn't tell me the actual statistic, but I don't mind too much about that. Apparently there is a letter in the post, but it goes via the midwife team so that, along with the Christmas post, is probably why it's taking a while.

Welcome Tumble, and sorry I didn't say so earlier! It's lovely to have somebody new on the thread. I didn't have many symptoms at 5 weeks, so try not to worry. My opinion is that is is definitely possible to be pregnant without sore boobs, especially at the 5 week stage. If you have nausea already that's probably a good sign, mine didn't kick in until 6 weeks. My fingers are tightly crossed for you, I hope everything goes well!

confu3ed · 19/12/2011 21:07

Freelance - congratulations, 8 week and a heartbeat is great news :)

LAFF thank you for the advice, the waiting is so tough!!

Welcome Tumble! My symptoms got stronger at around 5 weeks and by 7 there was no mistaking them although on and off. As Twittwooo says try not to worry symptoms do not always kick in early.

Congratulations Pie that is fabulous news and what a great Christmas pressie :)

Knitter hope you are feeling better this evening?

Twittwoo that is a long time to wait I thought the results were pretty quick. I guess I will find out soon enough, my 12/13 week scan is on the 4th of Jan. Stay away from google with these things, I swear it just panics me. Still cannot stay away though when doubting things myself!

Well I paid for a scan on Saturday and there was a healthy pregnancy measuring 10 + 2, got pictures and listened to the heart beat. So reassuring! I think that I need to stop panicking so much as I have had scans at 6,8 and 10 weeks all perfectly healthy with heartbeat. Tough though, but will try harder! Only 2 weeks till my next scan and after that will have to chill as I cannot afford £75 each time I need reassuring!!

One thing that I am worried about is coming off the progesterone, does anyone have experience of this? Can it cause you to miscarry?

Festive waves to anyone I have missed Xmas Smile

KnitterNotTwitter · 19/12/2011 21:08

pie my 1:99 risk is age (36) plus the fact that i've had one Downs pregnancy already... There is a chart here on the Downs Syndrome website to save you googling - only to be used by people who haven't had a Downs pregnancy already though...

Used my doppler as soon as I got home tonight and found the heartbeat pretty much straight away - phew.. don't know what bean/bump is doing... actually I suspect it's mostly my brain playing tricks on me :)

tumblebug · 19/12/2011 22:27

So lovely hearing happy scan news, congratulations!

Thanks all for the reassurance. With the pregnancy I lost, I had symptoms from about 3 weeks the tiredness and nausea had mostly gone by about 6 weeks. Sore boobs went a few days before I started bleeding, very noticeable when I woke up one morning without pain.

I think with DS my symptoms started much later and the positive pregnancy test felt very out of the blue (as did this one). It's hard to remember so long ago though! So trying to be positive.

So busy at work today anyway, so haven't had time to think about it too much.

digitalgirl · 20/12/2011 20:30

Just delurking to reassure twittwoo that I've been having braxton hicks since about week 12 (am 23 weeks now and they are much stronger!). I also had them with ds from week 9. Rock hard bump accompanied by a crampy feeling which then subsides and bump softens. I usually make sure I stop whatever I'm doing and just relax till it stops.

Waves to all familiar faces that know me and newbie faces that don't!

jetstar · 21/12/2011 12:26

Congratulations to pie Smile I am 42 and the basic risk for downs is 1:60 but my adjusted risk is 1:1000 ish this time which is lower than my risk for my dd who I had at age 40 (was about 1:370 ish) So..... you may get good news!
After a baad week last week, I seem calmer this week and am trying to keep busy. Have been thinking about a doppler but have been advised by midwife friend not and I do feel it might make me more mental. Which ones have you guys got though? Wink
Happy vibes to everyone and thanks for all the kind words Xmas Grin

CatAmongstThePoppies · 21/12/2011 15:26

Hello everyone,

Sorry I?ve not been around for a while ? it?s been quite a stressful few weeks. Morning sickness took over my life for a bit, then I got flu and was laid up in bed for a couple of weeks, obviously panicking that the virus or my high temp would cause a mc. We had a great 12 week scan, which was such a relief, only to be told a few days later that we were high risk for Down?s. It was such a shock, as we?d had a normal nuchal fold measurement, and I?m 31 so age-based odds are around 1 in 800. We made the difficult decision to go for a CVS, which has a 1% chance of mc, and we?ve now had the results back, which thankfully show everything is fine. This last week has definitely been the most stressful time of my life!! I?m still a bit sore from the CVS, but taking it easy ? midwife has told me to take this week off work, which seems a bit over the top, but I?m not complaining! And more exciting news ? we found out we?re having a little girl! Grin Feels a bit strange knowing so early on, but obviously they can tell the sex from looking at the chromosomes after the CVS.

I?ve had a good catch up on the thread and am so happy to hear everyone else?s good scan news ? digi, fishandjam, twittwoo, JezzaJ9, confu3ed, LadyMaybe, googie, Pie. Congratulations on your engagement LimeFlower - hope the wedding plans are going well!

Welcome to all the newbies/lurkers ? congratulations on your pregnancies!

Ostrich78 · 21/12/2011 19:41

Hi all,
I'd like to join you too please? I'm hoping I'm 10 weeks tomorrow, I don't have a scan date yet as I've only just been to see the doctor on Monday (rubbish new receptionist!!!) and worried about boobs not aching much or feeling sick and I have a small belly (worried it's not huge as I already have a ds - silly I know but still.....).

It's lovely to read the happy and positive messages but I can see that the worrying never ends!!
