New thread ladies, pull up a pew.

OP posts:

I should add that I am in the minority - thankfully most people I know have better birth stories than that so fear not. And most people managed to get to term before popping them out!

At the time I was too exhausted to do anything other than lie on my back (2 nights of no sleep plus the monitors) but I think now that had I been in a position to try the various things we'd learned at our nct class then I might have had an easier time of it. It was all going OK apart from actually getting him out at the end!

Seriously fear not - bear in mind too that it can't have been that bad as I wanted to do it again! Well, technically I was prepared to do it again to have another baby which is a slight difference but I was at least prepared to do it again.

I am not the norm :)

I'm actually thinking of going to the nct classes again firstly to meet people where we live now and secondly to sort of relearn what it should be like - I feel my experience may have coloured my memories... I do hope I can manage not to snort with derision when we get to the labour part.......

farfallarocks · 05/10/2011 18:02

Just popping in to say late was thinking of you the other day and wondering how you were getting on, sounds very promising, all brooking for you!

I totally understand the not wanting to test thing, let the mentalling commence!!

Biscuitsandtea · 05/10/2011 18:08

Not long to wait now Late, and the later you are (no pun intended) the more likely we are to see that much awaited BFP. And it would be fair to assume you'll partake in a bit of mentalling after the bfp too so the further along you are when you find out the better in my book!

dreamfeeder · 05/10/2011 19:08

biscuits, I know a frightening number of people with a thrid degree tear- 3 at a baby group I went to out of 12 (inc me), a good friend, and a friend's wife... Makes me paranoid they're on the up!! I was the same as you, midwife trying to get DD to bf on one side, obs guy trying to get me to sign theatre consent and get me moving on the other...as she was born after induction 57 (!!) hours after my waters broke and I didn't go into labour. all extremely a bit traumatic.

imps, sadly, I have so little time for housework now, plus you're in way more so you see it more... Today, I am knackered and persuaded DH to look after DD for 2 hours, and used my time to dust and vacuum upstairs, clean 2 bathrooms, and mop hall and room with floorboards downstairs. I have to say I would have quite like a sit down and brew, and look on mn, or read a book, but if I don't use this time to clean, it seriously doesn't get done, despite my good intentions for evening cleaning, the energy's always gone by then!!! I used to be so houseproud, sigh. It looks ok ish now, but if I only had more time!!! Plus, I have serious love for me new Brabantia rotary dryer I just got from amazon ( my dad was worried when I spent a good few minutes discussing its positives on the phone...) Plus DH says I am not, absolutely not allowed a cleaner, boo! I'd even have it for xmas....

late sensible plan. Don't believe anything bad will happen just because of last time. We're totally Brooking No Argument about this. Here here biscuits. I was 5 weeks when I tested, helps the time pass!!

go go go all you SWI-ers!!!!! See a rat? SMACK IT HARD!!

Biscuitsandtea · 05/10/2011 19:12

Oooh yes, agree with Dream - Late - no need to assume anything will happen this time round just because of last time, but I also know that won't stop you mentalling.

We are brooking no arguments left right and centre though - firstly for that BFP and then for a super sticky bean!

LateToThisBabyMalarky · 05/10/2011 20:38

Ladies, you are all lovely and wonderful, thanks so much for all your posts Thanks
After DH, you will be the first to know on Saturday morning (don't expect it to be early though - can't believe what time some of you guys get up to PIAR Wink)

OMW, I am sitting here absolutely BAWLING at Pride of Britain, and it's only just started! Blush

Imps, I am going to be relentlessly positive and congratulate you on the first day of your pregnancy Smile. Once the laptop is closed I will be cursing AF under my breath of course Wink

I have to confess a weakness for kitchen gadgets - let no-one come between me and my mandolin! Grin And I love the run-up to Chrimbo with all those demos of gadgets & knife sets in the kitchen departments of John Lewis etc - how DOES one live without one of those things that turns a cucumber into a pretty twist-garland and a carrot into a rose?!

NinjaChipmunk · 05/10/2011 21:16

and what, pray tell, is a mandolin??? It sounds useful.....
glad you're feeling positive if slightly teary late

Biscuitsandtea · 05/10/2011 21:17

I thought a mandolin was some sort of lute-ish guitar..... Confused

dreamfeeder · 05/10/2011 21:26

the mind boggles at what a mandolin is doing in late's kitchen...

NinjaChipmunk · 05/10/2011 21:41

I thought so too biscuits maybe her dh serenades her whilst she makes dinner?

musicalmrs · 05/10/2011 21:42

Maybe Late likes to serenade her kitchen gadgets?

Brooking for a sticky BFP Late!

Ignoring all these lovely stories about tearing. Anyone would try to think you're trying to put the rat smackers off!

...maybe that's what the mandolin's for...

LateToThisBabyMalarky · 05/10/2011 22:00

Ladies, welcome to the first day of the rest of your lives. I give you......

(drum roll)

The Mandolin

Grin Grin Grin

LateToThisBabyMalarky · 05/10/2011 22:03

And for those of you with standards....

the John Lewis offering

Imps7 · 05/10/2011 22:16

Oooh kitchen gadgets, my favourite topic of conversation, apart from whirlygig washing lines and general laundry chat. There are loads of gadgets that I just couldn't do without, but here are my top five (in no particular order):

  1. Measuring spoons - what was my life before measuring spoons?
  2. My stick blender with mini chopper (snigger snigger) attachment
  3. Baking beans - perfect pastry not quite every time!
  4. Global knives - you will not realise how quick and easy chopping stuff up is until you use these
  5. Silicone spatula, both small and large. Never again will you waste a scrap of anything with this bad boys - and they won't scratch your pans/tins.

My mandolin almost makes it onto the list but I don't use it often enough to justify its inclusion. What do you tend to use yours for the most, Late?

DizzyKipper · 06/10/2011 06:31

Sorry to post and run ladies, got to get to work soon but just needed to moan quickly before I did. I still don't think I've ov'ed! CD19, temp is 36.39. It was 36.1 yesterday so I'm hoping that that was my pre-ovulation temp and now my temp is going to start rising (even if only by 0.2 increments!). So if anyone wants to give my ovaries a good yelling at and tell them to get on with it I would be most grateful. HURRY UP YOU LAZY COW! I've a short work day tomorrow so hopefully will be able to catch up with everyone properly then.

Imps7 · 06/10/2011 07:15

Message to Dizzy's ovaries: HURRY UP YOU LAZY COWS! How dare you keep Dizzy waiting? POP THAT EGG, DAMMIT.

farfallarocks · 06/10/2011 08:17

Nips in to say dream good luck with the scan!

dizzy ovaries for God's sake we can;t wait around forever you know, get cracking!

Received the letter from the consultant today with a list of tests and where to go as well as a letter for a pelvic scan. Obviously when they do that they will find out I am actually preggers and tell me off for wasting their time Grin

imps also love the baking beans, amazing things.
My favourite kitchen gadget still remains the wine bottle opener

Biscuitsandtea · 06/10/2011 08:25

Yes good luck Dream

Can't wait for the pelvic scanners to send you away with a flea in your ear for wasting their time Farfalla Grin

Also hope that once you are proven pregnant your wine bottle opener doesn't seize up from lack of use while you're pg Smile

Biscuitsandtea · 06/10/2011 08:26

And to dizzy's ovaries - SORT IT OUT FOR GOODNESS SAKE - we've got babies to make don't you know - grrrrrr

PopcornMouse · 06/10/2011 10:49

rotfl @ far's favourite gadget.

I have to agree. Mine would be:

  1. My wine thingmajig (I did once cut the tip of my thumb off with a normal corkscrew, don't ask me how I managed it Confused )
  2. My Anthony Worrel Thompson blender missing it's lid insert because I managed to blend it into little pieces
  3. My nespresso machine 4..... actually I think that's it unless DH counts as a kitchen gadget

My cleaner is downstairs scrubbing while I'm on MN working, it feels a bit weird tbh! Confused

My temp's taken a dive today, a bit earlier than last time, so I'm going to whip out my OPKs at lunchtime :o

PopcornMouse · 06/10/2011 10:53

...I have always fancied a mandolin though, to make potato bakes :d

PopcornMouse · 06/10/2011 12:31

O.M.F.G.

I LOVE MY CLEANER. She is a goddess. Things that have never sparkled, are sparkling. My floors are free of grit. My tiles are white, white I tell you!

Sod a trial, she's a keeper. I'd go so far as to say I'd sell my kidney to fund my cleaner habit. :o

NinjaChipmunk · 06/10/2011 12:37

Ha! glad you like popcorn I'd love to have a cleaner.

How is everyone today?

dreamfeeder · 06/10/2011 13:26

Quick post as were out in rain with sleeping dd. Scanned. Twins!!!! Both looking good and bang on dates. Explains my mega vomming a bit better. Very excited, but 3 under 19 months, how will I manage!?!

Will check out labelling ASAP.

[Grin]

dreamfeeder · 06/10/2011 13:26

Mandolin that was meant to say...
