Just found out you are pregnant after a previous miscarriage and too nervous to move over the to pregnancy boards? Freaking out about spotting, cramping, symptoms (or lack there of) and nervously awaiting your first scan? Here is a lovely place for lot's of support, hand holding and problem sharing.

Courtesy of owlbooty here are the Ten Commandments of the Freak Out Room.

  1. Thou shalt check thy knickers to the point of insanity until the baby actually arrives.
  2. Thou shalt also check the loo roll post-wipeage (sorry, gross, I know)
  3. Thou shalt bore thy physician and midwife to tears with the mentalling.
  4. And thy husband/boyfriend/family/neighbour's cat.
  5. Thou shalt obsess over the absence of symptoms.
  6. And the presence of symptoms.
  7. And the fluctuation of symptoms.
  8. Thou shalt pee on a vast number of sticks and keep ClearBlue and First Response in business.
  9. The day before any scan extreme mentalling is permitted without recourse to the Haddock.
10. Self-diagnosis with Dr Google is Forbidden.

The Haddock will be applied liberally to all transgressors.

Woo hoo thanx for the advice doo it did take a while but I did hear a very quiet heartbeat and midwife said it sounded good even heard a little hiccup, I have a feeling I'm not going to relax til this baby is in my arams!

Mitsouko · 03/08/2011 13:04

Thanks for your feedback Freelancegirl, much appreciated. I'm sorry to hear that you're worried - I really do hope that it works out alright for you.

I'm really in two minds about whether or not to take the route of being ignorant or informed - they both seem to have drawbacks. My common sense is just telling me to leave it (barring no bleeds) and hold out until 12 weeks, which would seem to give a more accurate picture of what's happening than a scan at 8-9 (which was the estimated age that I lost my last one).

But that's another whole month in which to get my hopes up, and I'd desperately like to avoid the shock if possible.

shellshock7 · 03/08/2011 13:30

stitch I've changed areas since my MMC and they do the booking in and 12 week scan at the same appt in my new area, so I won't see the MW until my appt on 19 August. Quite happy with that really as not much really happens at booking in except questions and form filling, may as well limit the time out of work!

Sleep is a nightmare for me a the mo, but because of snoring DH!! I banished him to the spare room just so I could get a good kip for a coupla nights last week Blush

biscuits and freelance if it helps my MS didn't start till between 7 and 8 weeks

kat great news re darker lines Grin

layla good news from the MW, what a relief

LAF that is great news Grin I'm made up for you x

mitsouko I had an early scan at what I thought was 8+4, was dated at 7+6 - there is a post from me on 24 or 25 July about how I felt at the time - basically, I wish I had waited, whilst it was a relief too see the heartbeat it hasn't relieved my worries and the stress it caused leading up to it was horrendous (I'd been doing ok up till then, trying to be positive) Sad I think (hope) the 12 weeks scan will be the one where I will feel sufficiently far along to have faith in the result and relax a bit? Hope that helps x

LAF77 · 03/08/2011 13:35

Hi mitsuoko the sonographers would be able to see something at 8 weeks. Before 6 weeks, it is hard to have a conclusive answer, but at 8 weeks, you should know if there is a baby in the sac with a heartbeat. Like freelance, I'd rather know sooner than later if there was a problem, but it is an individual choice. I think on some levels, your body knows when things aren't right.

Great news laylasmummy It is so easy to imagine bad outcomes when you have mc'd before, but hearing the heartbeat must be amazing.

I just checked the information from my scans from my third pregnancy. This baby is bigger at 6+2 than when I had my scan at 7+5 in December, so I am feeling some relief. I have an appointment to be scanned again in 2 weeks at St. Mary's, but I may try and arrange one for next week because I don't know if I can wait that long.

Thanks for all your support and reading my ramblings!

milkyways · 03/08/2011 14:09

Great news on the scan LAF! A brilliant start and hopefully a sign that things will be better this time.
Congratulations laylas! totally agree- I won't relax until I am holding my baby in my arms.

Sorry on my phone so will catch up properly tonight. Just want to quickly reassure biscuits(?) That symptoms can come and go as hcg levels plateau and rise, so keep positive.

LivinInTheMoment · 03/08/2011 14:46

Hello Ladies,
I can't remember if i posted on here or not.... but i have been meaning too. My memory is not great lately, so apoligies if i am introducing my self twice.. lol.
So my story is that i mc'd mid may, it was a complete mc. We did not wait for a period (as advised by the doc) and just ttc straight away, well when the bleeding had stopped.

I've not had a period at all, and took a pg test last week of June which showed BFP!

Have not got a clue as to when we conceived, but seeing as the test was positive on 25-06-11 I would guess I'm about 9 wks now????? If anyone can help with that I'd so appreciate it!

Finally got the courage up to book in for my early pg scan. Scan is booked for next wednesday afternoon. So excited, but nervous too. I keep checking my boobs for tenderness on nearly an hourly basis as that is the only sympton i have. Just checked them now, they are still tender, phew. I have not had any morning sickness. Also I am getting a little light discharge Blush the past week, is that normal?

Thanks ladies Smile

stitchinline · 03/08/2011 14:56

shellshock apparently they do mine a week apart so they do the bloods at your booking in and then the scan a week later so they can give results right away. I think my appointments are a bit early but thats because everyone thinks I am a week further on than I actually am! By my LMP i am 11 weeks but as I know when I ov'd I think I'm only 10 and the scan did confirm this.

Agree about trying to limit time out of work, when you add in my other consultant appointments I will have quite a few afternoons out over the next month.

thankfully dh is not a snorer - in fact is me keeping him awake with all my tossing and turning :o

LAF again am very happy about your good scan, it is great to see things have started so well

mitsuoko I wasn't going to scan early as was very happy in my little everything is OK bubble but I did freak out lots last week and so went for a private scan at 9 weeks. Was brilliant to see it all OK, good size with heartbeat and well attached with no signs of bleeding. Has made me feel loads better about it all - if I had to wait til 12 weeks I think I would have been a mess by then.

kat great news about a darker line

biscuits my ms also didn't start til later and it's still very intermittent now

yay for a good mw appointment laylas

Off to buy new pillows and more maternity tights tonight, wearing normal ones today and feeling so squished up

Blush but I did a very silly thing and bought a doppler the oher day and tried to use it last night knowing full well it is waaay to soon.

waves to doo, freelance, velvet and anyone else I've missed

stitchinline · 03/08/2011 14:59

xpost there

welcome livin

I think discharge is normal - well I've had plenty of it anyway Blush so I hope it is

sounds like you might be 9 / 10 weeks as that is about when I got my BFP and I'm 10 weeks today

LivinInTheMoment · 03/08/2011 15:14

Thanks Stitch :) I would love it if i was about 10 wks by now! I guess I will know for sure this day week, fingers crossed all the way.

I remembered another symptom that I'm having. I'm super tired all the time, hardly sleeping and getting up to pee at least twice each night, sometimes 3 times. Can't wait for that to settle down so I can get a full night sleep. My fiance can't wait either as he wakes too each time i get up to go pee!

Velvetcu · 03/08/2011 16:08

great news LAF and laylas

mitsouko I too had an mmc, found out at 12 weeks that baby had died at 7. We had a scan at 8 weeks and it was a huge relief. It hasn't didn't stop the mentalling but as LAF said in her post, at least you can start out with a small glimmer of positivity. I definately would not have been able to wait until 12 weeks.

stitchinline · 03/08/2011 16:41

Lily thinking of you for tomorrow and hope you are doing OK

Mitsouko · 03/08/2011 16:54

Ladies, thanks so much for your feedback, really helpful to hear such a range of thoughts and experiences. I've still not decided what to do. Will probably ring GP next Monday when I am 7 weeks, get an appointment and see what my options are.

Scans fill me with dread and bring back traumatic memories, as I'm sure they do for lots of you. I had to have about 4 following my MC as it was incomplete and I bled for so long. Ugh.

Good luck everyone, and hang in there...thanks again!

LivinInTheMoment · 03/08/2011 17:08

Mitsouko, I really agonised over booking my first scan. I actually had booked it for 2 weeks ago, but cancelled it. Wanted to wait a bit longer. So I am now booked in for next Wednesday. Its just so hard to stop worrying and what iffing.

If scans fill you with dread, (and yes i know exactly what you mean, me too) then it would do no harm to hold off on bookin it.

milkyways · 03/08/2011 17:48

Mitsouko Like some others who have said the same thing, I opted for an early scan so I knew at least if things are going wrong or right earlier.
With this pregnancy, I was a nervous wreck in the days running up to the scans. I was initially given fortnightly scans, which was slow torture, but after asking, the EPU gave me a weekly scan to cope better and I found it helped me alot.
Whatever you decide, will be the best for you. Some women (like me) want to know everything asap, whereas others may want to wait it out.

Congratulations livin! You made me laugh about the boob prodding! It's funny how I used to think I was the only one doing this, but then you start talking to other women who've had mc's and they're doing it too! Increased discharge is normal :)

Really really hating this hot weather. Last night was just terrible. I'm also thinking of getting a body pillow, but I just can't bring myself to buy anything else pregnancy related. I think my optimism can only go as far as a pair of maternity jeans and one top, which I got a few weeks ago.

lily06 · 03/08/2011 20:32

Thanks stitch, I'm doing ok. Not so much nervous about tomorrow as the wait for results. Appt is at 9.30 so at least I don't have much time to panic tomorrow.

Freezingmyarseoff · 03/08/2011 20:38

Hey Lily, I have been thinking of you too. Hope tomorrow is okay and of course it's the wait that's so difficult. I hope they manage to get the results through ASAP. Take care.

Waves to everyone.

LAF77 · 03/08/2011 20:57

OK, freak out time again for me, I had a phone call from St. Mary's tonight telling me that I have TEG in pregnancy. It is treatable with a high dose of aspirin, but I worry that maybe I should have been taking it since BFP and things could all go wrong now. I think I will have to get another scan next week for my own sanity to be sure that I haven't botched this pregnancy up.

bigmacandhappymeal · 03/08/2011 21:46

Just dropping in quickly to say hello to everyone. While lurking I saw living's post. Just wanted to echo what others are saying about increased discharge - it is completely normal. You just need to watch out for it becoming smelly (sorry all) or discoloured as this might be a sign that you have thrush as well :)

Big hugs to you all

freelancegirl · 04/08/2011 00:41

LAF you've got me googling TEG and pregnancy now. What did they say about it? I guess you didn't get that much time to chat. I reckon you will be fine though, the important thing is you have started to take it now. It seems that for some people they don't have it before and it just starts in pregnancy (I think...) so that means it has not had that much time to affect things.

I was a bit worried about the discharge too BigMac and Livin. Especailly as I had it last time and I miscarried. But it seems that it is a normal pregnancy thing as you said. Plenty else to mental about though :)

Yes Milky I guess although I have had the freak out of having inconclusive early scans this time, at least if it is going wrong I will find out early and then can work out what I will do about it. Hi Velvet, Stich Freezing and others and good luck with the scan for tomorrow Lily!

Biscuitsandtea · 04/08/2011 06:34

Morning, V quick one as still camping.

LAF what is TEP? Sounds promising that thy have managed to detect it relatively early? How did they pick it up so soon? Was it from the scan? Hope everything is ok for you. Oh, and so glad you got to hear the heartbeat yesterday too.

Thank you all for talking some sense into me yesterday. I was having a midnight panic the other day Sad. I mean I am sill worried that there are so few symptoms but ultimately there is nothing I can do at this early stage so I just need to tough it out for another fortnight. (Easier said than done Confused)

I think I will definitely have a scan at 8 weeks if no m/s by then as at least we could have everything managed. Will see how I feel if m/s has arrived - might see what m/w says about it at booking in.

Will need my booking in at 8 weeks because that's how you get in the system for a 12 week scan (assuming we can get that far Sad)

Hope everyone else is ok. Will catch up properly on Friday when I'm back on my computer xx

Biscuitsandtea · 04/08/2011 06:34

Sorry, TEG not TEP Blush

freelancegirl · 04/08/2011 08:33

Hope camping is going well Biscuits. Sorry you are still mentalling. I am exactly the same - no real symptoms except hugely bloated and looking pregnant! Very annoying to be looking pregnant when you might not stay pregnant. I am just having to wear baggy clothes when I am going to see people I don't want to mention it to.

I THINK TEG is about clotting and thrombophilias (?) but am not sure. When I was starting my own investigations I wrote a master list of things I think needed checking. I will post it below. My brother contacted me last night as his friends in Spain have just had their second mc in a row and I suddenly seem to have become Ms Miscarriage Expert. Oh well, if we can help we can help! Let me know if any of you have anything to add to this list:

NK CELLS TEST
CHECK THYROID HORMONES
CHECK FOR HIGH THYROID ANTIBODIES
CHECK SELENIUM LEVELS
CHECK VITAMIN D LEVELS
CHECK FOR PROGESTERONE DEFICIENCY - ALTHOUGH USUALLY SHORT CYCLES
CHECK FOR HUGHES AND/OR STICKY BLOOD
Antiphospholipid antibodies
Antinuclear antibodies

Thrombophilias:

Factor V Leiden
Protein C deficiency
Protein S deficiency
Antithrombin III deficiency
Acitvated Prothrombin C Resistance (APCR)
Methylene-tetrahydrofolate reductase MTHFR C677T, leading to hyperhomocytseinemia
G20210A prothrombin gene mutation

Not sure if TEG is within those, but now I want to try to find out!

greengoose · 04/08/2011 09:39

hello ladies.... can I hop on?! Im a nervous 5+6 today, and scared witless it wont stick after a MMC in Nov. (we found out after a little bit of spotting at 9 weeks). Ive posted a couple of times on the due March board, and in wild optimistic craziness Ive even been thinking about names. Then the next minute Im a mess, sure its not going to work this time, and checking madly when I wipe. Ive done 8 peesticks and four of them CBD's and its now saying 3+ (yeh). I dont think that means all that much though.
Ive got two DS, (8+3) and Im 38, so maybe Ive just had my run and am past my sell by date! This preg feels alot like the MC one so far, but then I thought that was OK until it wasnt. I also had spotting with both of my boys and early scans... so I cant really tell. (I also had more MS with the last one than with either of the boys... which my Mum said helpfully was because it would have been a girl... so sensitive)!
Great to have someplace to show how scared I really am..... I dont think Ill go for an early scan, but I night buckle in next few weeks...

stitchinline · 04/08/2011 10:50

hi greengoose welcome to the rather aptly named freak out room, this is definitely the right place to unload all your worries

Well I'm really confused, I thought my appointment thie afternoon was for booking in but I got a letter last night that gives me an appointment for booking in on Monday morning - same hospital but different location?? Hmm

Thinking maybe this afternoon is just for blood tests? That would be a right pain as means 4 appointments over the next 2 weeks and they take nearly a half day each!

Really struggled to find materniy tights last night - ended up at mamas and papas but they are meant for a big bump - not the too many pies one I have at the moment so finding them slipping down today.

harassedandherbug · 04/08/2011 11:18

Hi ladies,

Sorry, I haven't been on here for ages so no chance of catching up! I've mostly been on the Grads thread tbh.

I had my 20wk scan on Tuesday, and all was good, and we're having a boy!! I was convinced it was a girl...... lol!

Doo I think your scan is today? Good luck!

xx
