Just found out you are pregnant after a previous miscarriage and too nervous to move over the to pregnancy boards? Freaking out about spotting, cramping, symptoms (or lack there of) and nervously awaiting your first scan? Here is a lovely place for lot's of support, hand holding and problem sharing.

Courtesy of owlbooty here are the Ten Commandments of the Freak Out Room.

1. Thou shalt check thy knickers to the point of insanity until the baby actually arrives.
2. Thou shalt also check the loo roll post-wipeage (sorry, gross, I know)
3. Thou shalt bore thy physician and midwife to tears with the mentalling.
4. And thy husband/boyfriend/family/neighbour's cat.
5. Thou shalt obsess over the absence of symptoms.
6. And the presence of symptoms.
7. And the fluctuation of symptoms.
8. Thou shalt pee on a vast number of sticks and keep ClearBlue and First Response in business.
9. The day before any scan extreme mentalling is permitted without recourse to the Haddock.

10. Self-diagnosis with Dr Google is Forbidden.

The Haddock will be applied liberally to all transgressors.

Hi everyone,

Can I join you guys? I just had a BFP after a MMC in March, I am happy obviously but scared too - not quite sure how to react to be honest, spent the weekend trying not to think about it but am now in full panic mode!

On the practical side, I had the MMC at 10 weeks and was told the baby stopped developing at 8 weeks...can I request a scan at 8 weeks or do you have to wait for the usual 12 week dating scan?

Hi shellshock welcome to the thread and congratulations on your BFP!

You could find out where your nearest Early Pregnancy Unit is and give them a call to find out if they will make an appointment for you to be scanned or whether you can go to a walk-in session. At the one I go to you can self-refer (i.e. walk-in) and asked to be scanned if you are feeling anxious - especially if you have had a previous miscarriage, but I know from some of the others on this thread that not all EPUs will do that. Otherwise you could maybe ask your GP to refer you? Good luck with everything!

Welcome shellshock, I'm sure you'll get very well looked after here . You can certainly request an earlier scan, from what I've heard it very much depends on your area. My trust wouldn't offer anything extra after my first m/c so I had a private scan at 8 wks the second time. This time I've been very lucky as I'm under a consultant and so started with fortnightly scans.

ladybid twins. is that new news or am i just reading to fast and missing bits?

welcome shellshock congratulations. My epu didn't do walk in's and only seemed to scan if i had a bleed so as ladybird said it is very dependant on the epu.

Hi cep sorry you didn't have a great weekend, I hope your dh is making it up to you. :) I already knew I was having twins, so no surprise for me, but I possibly haven't mentioned it on the thread for a while.... They are identical twins, which are the most high risk so I'm even more nervous than usual - mc is 5 times more likely than with a single pregnancy as well as lots of other horrible possible complications... however, no more mentalling for me about that (for today at least...!)

I've had a bash at the list so that lara will be pleased with us for keeping it up to date . It's great to see how big the numbers are getting on the grads thread - very exciting and something for us all to aim for!

shellshock like the others have said, early reassurance scans vary from place to place but i think the norm after 1 mc is no. Your best bet is a walk in EPU. Or, as someone has suggested visit your gp if your worried you never know.

I had a bit of bleeding and pains early on so got an eary scan at 6 weeks then had a private scan at 10wks (although turned out to be 11)- i mc at 12, but baby measured 9 wks.

lady double yay for little beans doing so well and for having great scan. 17 days is not so long. you'll be fine. Put the doppler away though!

Hi to everyone else.

Just a quick catch up. After my mentalling over the weekend ( thanks for the haddocking girls) I bit the bullet and got a scan today.

it was all good my bean was there witha heartbeat measuring 7+3 so pretty much bang on dates.
I know I have a long way to go but feeling slightly lighter today knowing that at least it is there (unlike last time).

Hope everyone else is ok.

Brilliant news for scanners yesterday

I'm still here lurking too. Have been away and am now back and wondering wtf to do about another scan. Really don't want to go, am petrified, I feel less pregnant. Haven't booked in, and don't intend to until after another scan,
just had that one private scan at 8 weeks.

hairy hope you had a nice break did you go anywhere nice? You really should get scanned if you don't want to book in until you have. You're getting near 12wks so will need to book in soon to get you nhs scan, as you often hadlve to wait. Could you ring epu and beg to be seen? Although understand that's probably last place you want to go. Maybe get a private scan in next week? Feeling less pg from 9 weeks is normal and to be expected. Placenta kicking in makes ms ease.

hairy it's normal to be feeling less pregnant, although bloody scary!! What are you epu like?? Might be worth a word with them. I think you have to book in to get an nhs scan! My epu scanned me at 8 weeks as I refused to book in without knowing all was ok.

collie have you decided re: pram?? We're trying to stay away Sat night (if we can a hotel that doesn't cost an arm and a leg!) and have a day out to celebrate dd's birthday next Tuesday, so I'm hoping we can go via a pram shop to have a look .

yrmotb my edd may be Dec but I'm banking on an early Jan baby too! My dates make my dd 28/12, and dd was 10 days late.... I think it's a dead cert personally.
