First clomid pill popped last night

After more than a decade of fertility problems/miscarriages and then 2 miracle kids, we are embarking on our last ditch attempt for #3. It may be greedy, it may be foolish but we would love to have a bigger family. i don't seem able to get pg without intervention so clomid has been prescribed again.

If it doesn't work then I think we will finally have closure on a very long fertility journey. Even if it DOES work then it will be another miracle if I can hang on to the pg. I have had 7 m/c over the years.

We are very very lucky to have our 2 dcs but fingers crossed the lucky pills have one more dose of baby dust inside.

twolittlemonkeys - you sound just like me Grin. Lets hope we get that third little monkey each.

Good luck with the test when you finally cave in and do it.

Jebel · 04/07/2011 15:21

happy I ov'd really early, on CD12 the first cycle and CD9 the second cycle that I took clomid. I have a regular cycle normally so I think clomid just makes it happen faster for me. I don't think early is all that normal though.

twolittlemonkeys · 05/07/2011 09:48

Well today's CD30 so I tested first thing and....... nothing. Not a whiff of a BFP. Guess I'm out for this month. Am starting to feel some cramps so AF is probably on the way. It's not over til the fat lady sings though, so just have to patiently await the arrival of that unwelcome visitor then try again. Good luck to those still in the race!

MrsHY1 · 05/07/2011 12:46

twolittlemonkeys how many DPO are you? Do you know? Apols if you've already answered that in an earlier post. You never know - quite a few people get their BFP 15 DPO or later, so as you say - not out of the running yet!

As for me - am really confused! Had a lot of EWCM on Sunday and I've had panging in my left ovary since then - but still no smiley face OPK and no temp rise. Also the EWCM went away yesterday. Had a bit today - but (really sorry for the TMI here) but not sure if it's actually EWCM or if it might be a bit of leftover Conceive Plus lubricant from our BDing on Sunday night!?! Blush

Jebel · 05/07/2011 16:08

mrshy1 I get EWCM usually two days before I get the smiley face and am often a bit dry by the time it occurs. Also remember that the OPKs are not fool proof and sometimes you can just miss the peak time but keep testing and keep BDing!

monkeys it isn't over until the nasty aunt sings, fx for you. My sis didn't get a BFP until 17DPO.

twolittlemonkeys · 05/07/2011 22:42

To be honest I don't know how many dpo I am. Clomid regulates my cycles to an extent - first few cycles of it gave me a 28-29 day cycle but my last one was 33 days. If AF fails to show I'll test again on Friday. Getting a BFN today makes me feel less guilty about all the rides I went on at Thorpe Park at the weekend! Grin Although when I threw up after one I did wonder whether pregnancy could be the cause of me being sensitive as I normally love rides. (In actual fact I'm probably just getting old!)

I'm sure our bodies just try to trick us! Can't really help MrsHY1 as I don't use OPKs (I spent too much energy getting obsessed with ttc#1 so am trying to keep a lid on it this time!)

hippychick66 · 06/07/2011 11:56

lol @ twolittlemonkeys throwing up after the ride - what are you like? I really hope it was all down to hormones though.

I used to love rides and even did Bungee jumps in my youth - alas, now I am a totally mummsy mum who wont go on anything Blush

hippychick66 · 06/07/2011 12:07

Just started to watch the programme about the sextuplets born recently in Oxford. She took clomid Shock Are we ready for this girls??? Grin

MrsHY1 · 06/07/2011 17:40

Fxed for you twolittlemonkeys! Ovulation is still eluding me- despite the promising ewcm on Sunday and Monday. Don't think I've missed it either- as temp still down. Don't know where it is!! Still getting the odd twinge in my left hand side so hopefully it's forthcoming... X

emmaloupolman · 06/07/2011 19:43

i watched that aswell hippy i am also a twin so a higher chance 4 me 2

twolittlemonkeys · 06/07/2011 20:57

I'm still cringing at my behaviour over the weekend tbh Blush. What I didn't mention above was that I threw up at the (busy) train station. In rush hour.

Still no sign of AF. The idea of twins doesn't strike me with dread (it probably ought to), but anything more makes me Shock There is an 8-10% chance of multiples if Clomid is successful. I don't know whether the chance increases with the dosage of Clomid though. I'm on 100mg (was on 50mg when conceived DS1).

Keep up the SWI MrsHY1, whether or not you get a temp rise. Fingers crossed eh?

Jebel · 07/07/2011 08:38

My doc has said twins would be highly undesirable for me as have an odd shaped uterus. I am not sure I wanted to know that as imagine the constant worry I would have if in that clomid 8-10%.

Apparently J-lo, Angelina, Mariah etc all had clomid babies

MrsHY1 · 07/07/2011 11:55

Hello
The twin thing is interesting isn't it - in some ways I would love a pair (!) but in another I would worry about their health, my health, finances, if we'd have to move house, whether I'd ever get my body back, etc.!

Twolittlemonkeys it's sounding really positive isn't it. Keep us posted!

Well - got my smiley face this morning! DTD last night, Tues night, Sun night. Am going to an awards 'do this evening and won't be back until late so there's a chance we won't DTD tonight (even I'm not so cruel that I'll wake OH up just to have sex) but will be able to tomorrow night. Do you think we'll have it covered? On second thoughts, I might sneak one in tonight if he's still looking semi-awake!!!
x

emmaloupolman · 07/07/2011 14:20

i am excpeted to ovulate between today and tuesday hubby is away now till monday Sad fingers crossed i ovulate late this month

Jebel · 07/07/2011 19:00

mrshy1 - my gynae always says to do it night of smiley face and the next night and the next night (I never manage the 3rd night) so if you can get him in the mood, I would go for it.

emma fx for you ov is a little late.

I am nearly at the end of my 2ww and am fairly sure this month it is very unlikely as only DTD once. I get back home on Saturday and have decided to stop drinking until the end of Ramadan which is 1.5 months away. Nothing to do with religion, just booze is harder to come by during Ramadan and most of my friends will be in the UK all summer so I'll be able to be a hermit. Think I owe it to my body if I am taking all these drugs to get me pg. Alcohol is the expat curse.

twolittlemonkeys · 08/07/2011 14:09

Dammit, tested again today and BFN. Where the hell is AF? I'm beginning to think my body's becoming resistant to Clomid - First of all 50mg worked - clockwork 28 day cycles with OV around CD14/15, then didn't so switched to 100mg which worked for a cycle or two but now appears to have failed to make me ovulate. Confused Can't even ask for a scan/ blood test as the fertility clinic at our hospital closed down so I'm taking the Clomid unsupervised - the lovely nurse who used to run the clinic prescribed me 6 months' worth just before she left.

Jebel · 09/07/2011 19:02

Sounds frustrating two. I am paying through the nose (outside uk) for my treatment but I do feel slightly in control as I have regular monitoring to check I am ovulating.

Am fairly sure af is coming tomorrow for me.

KEA · 10/07/2011 22:07

Hi All, haven't logged for ages as was trying not to think too much about it all but wanted to share some info..

My first round of clomid induced ovulation day 20 but cycle was 27 days(have had short luteal phase for 2 years since Ttc). So this cycle I asked if I could try progesterone to extend cycle (despite various previous blood tests saying progesterone ok). Nurse told me to get on with it morning & night after high fert on monitor. This involved waking up at 5.15am! Anyway it worked and I got a BFP last week.

So if you think your cycle is too short ask about progesterone. I took Crinone gel which you insert for 2 weeks post ovulation & I am now continuing for a further 4 weeks. Interestingly hospital prescription was £18 but private prescription from GP was £48! Hope this helps.

Jebel · 11/07/2011 08:27

Congratulations KEA and good to know progesterone worked for you. I am taking it also but in tablet form. Finished last one on Saturday morning so expecting AF any moment unless by some miracle I am pg. Now 15 DPO. Progesterone has extended my luteal phase to 14 days in previous months so I can't help but be a little hopeful. I have no symptoms, don't feel like AF is coming at all.

MrsHY1 · 11/07/2011 19:35

Oh Jebel I've got everything crossed that this is your month!! And congrats too Kea.

Update from me - I definitely ovulated at some point on Friday (got my smiley face on Thurs) as I had my temp rise on Saturday morning. We did DTD on the Thursday night after all, so I've got everything crossed that we catch the egg.

Saw a private GP this evening who is happy to prescribe me more Clomid at 100mg - she's given me two more cycles at 100mg then we'll review - with a view to prescribing three more (the hospital were always a bit funny about increasing my dose as I was ovulating anyway - REALLY late though, so I didn't fit into one of their protocols). I have agreed that next cycle I'll have follicle tracking to make sure I've not developed loads of dominant follicles, so am going to a private centre in London.

Am also going to have a 7dpo progesterone test - the first time I've been offered one - to assess whether I could also benefit from progesterone tabs (reckon I can given my naturally short LP and spotting).

So am feeling pretty positive right now :-)

emmaloupolman · 11/07/2011 20:54

Congrats kea
I have taken 5 months of clomid and only alowed one more month so i might mension that next time i go to the gp

Jebel · 12/07/2011 09:38

that's good news mrs.

I had a sliver, a glimmer of hope this morning. So so so faint so just don't want to get excited and have had 2 chem pgs before. Going to my doc this eve for a blood test if I can.

twolittlemonkeys · 12/07/2011 12:48

Sounds promising Jebel, keeping fingers crossed for you! MrsHY1 sounds like things are going well for you too! Congrats KEA.

I'm on CD37 and still nothing. Will do yet another HPT tomorrow though I strongly suspect the Clomid hasn't made me OV at all. Really cross as going on holiday on Friday and can guarantee the witch will turn up and stop me going swimming or something. Grrrrr.

As I'm not being monitored in any way I was wondering - ought I to try increasing my dose from 100mg to 150mg? Didn't notice any difference in symptoms going from 50mg to 100mg but now it appears 100mg no longer works - perhaps my body is becoming resistant to it? If it was working as it should then I'd have had AF by now surely?

Jebel · 12/07/2011 19:41

two it is tricky and after today am at a loss to understand it all.

Blood test negative. I did read some other reports about sainsbury's tests showing a thin line but being false positive. It does say in instructions that line should be equal width and mine wasn't.

Am all of a bother as doc has gone as far as saying that from ultrasound she doesn't think I actually ov'd. Am wondering if I actually got a false positive smiley face and therefore started on progesterone too early which prevented ovulation. This just occurred to me so didn't ask doc. Anyway doc is saying I should start daily injections when af comes as didn't ov this month on clomid. I am unsure. It is hard to know living in a land of anything goes regarding drugs and treatment whether it is the right thing to do. My only reference point is nhs which is cash strapped so holds back and is the opposite of here.
My treatment seems so much more intensive - I have only done 2 cycles of clomid.

Anyway. Off to mull. Good luck all.

MrsHY1 · 12/07/2011 22:11

Twolittlemonkeys: What a pain for you. I know what you mean about the faff of OPKs and temperature charts (I'm fairly certain this was you but forgive me if not!) but I must say I've found them invaluable in confirming my ovulation. If I were you, I would be inclined to increase the dose as it worked for me. But I must admit, I don't know whether resistance to Clomid is possible or whether you've had an unlucky cycle?

Jebel - I'm really sorry about the negative bloods and the query on whether you ovulated. That sounds really odd to me - I wouldn't have thought you'd have got a false positive smiley - I've heard that happening to ladies with PCOS but I thought that was resolved with Clomid. Could it be that as you say, you may have been gearing up for ovulation, but it took more than 36 hrs to happen and the progesterone stopped it in its tracks? How many dpo did you start the progesterone?

What dose of Clomid are you on? I'd say it's worth a cycle on 150mg or 100mg to see if that makes a difference. And maybe temp chart so you can be sure that O has happened? (as you can probably gather I'm a bit of a charting fan!)
