Hi Kezia. The first day of my last period was 5th June, so 5 weeks on Sunday by the way medics work it out, although really only a couple of weeks.

Midwife was predictably useless. "All pregnancies are different" etc, which I know. Basically they've booked me in to see midwife properly at 8 weeks and will see if they can get EPU to scan me then because of my history. If I start getting strong consistent symptoms before then I won't be so worried.

The thing that bugs me is that if you're even passingly well informed about the issues you already seem to know more than the midwife! - she didn't know the difference between a FR test and a CB digital - i.e. that one just says pregnant/not pregnant and one indicates how many weeks since conception.

Just a long wait til the end of July.

How many weeks are you? x

SlightlyBabyCrazed · 08/07/2011 11:53

Morning all,

AuntieDoris - did you buy the monitor new, or secondhand? If 2ndhand, it may need resetting, but I got pretty much lows all month the first one - it isworh sticking with it, once it works out your cycle it will give you highs and peaks - if not after 3 cycles - go to GP as it may be you have some underlying issue - I did and since starting simple meds I now appear to ovulate around day 12-14 each month.

Just updated my stats as the witch arrived over night oh well Wine for me tonight :( CD1 this is my month Smile

Keziahhopes · 08/07/2011 19:26

Oh Elm we are almost the same, first day of last period was 4th June - so I think 5 weeks on Sunday too, if I have used the right internet tool. Afraid not able to see midwife till week 8 so know nothing. Due to having had a stroke this year, blood clotting probs etc I get a scan at 8+3 I think it is. Really had to fight for that though, but need it because was told need aspirin if they see a heartbeat. Am afraid we have booked a private scan as I can't wait that long (in case lose it in the 2 weeks we can see a heartbeat) - it is "only" £75 which for me is worth it - and much cheaper than IVF!!! It is with pro-scan as nearest to us in next city.

Sorry Elm that midwife not much use - I don't think they are that interested until they can "do things" much later on.

cross posted
OK ive officially gone crazy!
Just been looking at the positive pregnancy tests on fertility friend and looking at ones which were positive 9DPO in the hope that IF i poas i'd get a positive....i'm nuts arent i??

raspberrytipple · 08/07/2011 21:02

Hello Keziah, thank you for your note yesterday, you are right in that I really think I am stressed at the moment but I am really over thinking everything, taking everything to heart - put it this way, someone said something ever so slightly mean to me the other day on an internet forum (not this one) and I was late for work because I cried so much! I just need to chill out so am going to look into acupuncture/meditation etc and see if that helps, maybe even yoga Hmm Grin Its useful to know what tests they would do too at this point. We are both ok lifestyle wise, fit healthy etc and don't smoke although I consume coffee by the pint load and we do drink but not all that much. However, I'm feeling much more relaxed now, mainly because there is beer to be drunk tomorrow night Grin so if nothing else that will be a perk!

I am however, having to repeatedly tell myself to stop thinking about my friend who I am sure is pregnant, she keeps avoiding a meeting (because they always involve booze) so I'm guessing she just isn't ready to 'come out' yet. But, its not a race, and that doesn't mean there is one less baby to be claimed if she is pregnant. But, thank you, you made me feel much calmer!!! Hope you are doing ok

boba82 · 09/07/2011 11:38

izzy STEP AWAY FROM THE HPTS!!! As a recovering POAS addict I can safely say early testing only leads to heartbreak. Wait until day AF due at least! x

kezia Massive hugs and whispered huge congratulations!! 34 months hey, gives me hope to stick with CBFM for a bit longer!! Can I just ask, you said that you used DHEA, I'm confused??? And there I go again chasing a 'magic' formula!!!
Am on day 16 myself - got peak yesterday and today but got in laws staying so but difficult!! Managed to dtd thurs x2 and yest x1 but no luck today so far!!!! You have to laff otherwise u'd go mad!!

(pls can someone change my stats??) Cycle 15 of CBFM. Got gynae appointment on 28th July, getting nervous, terrified they are going to say game ova but thats another story!!

raspberrytipple I've been there too and Kezia is absolutely right (usually is!) I'm learning to accept the dark days more and know that in a few days it'll be ok and i'll focus on getting my peak again.

boba hows you? Made me laff when you said poas addict - wonder if there's a support group for us and a ten step programme to wean us off??

Loup its gone quiet......

Waves to all others, and hopes that life is treating you well whilst chasing the dream.

Tilly xx

LisaJayneS · 09/07/2011 12:00

Morning ladies - would you mind if I crashed your thread to ask you a question? How does the CBFM work? What does it actually do? I have a Duofertility monitor and so far have not been terrifically impressed with it. Other than not having to manually take BBT first thing in the morning before I so much as BREATHE, it doesn't seem to be doing much of a job of predicting my ov (3 cycles in so far). Also it only tells me when I've ov'd about 6 days after so not much use? If it also doesn't then predict the ov with more accuracy I'm not sure what use it is. Yet to be impressed.....

It ALWAYS thinks I will ov 14 days into my 28 day cycle so doesn't seem to take account of previous ovs having happened at different times in my cycle. Anyway just wondered what the CBFM did? Am I right in thinking it costs about £100?

Thanks
Lisa xx

LisaJayneS · 09/07/2011 12:02

Also, a follow up question (if I may ) - do you have any views on how effective the CBFM is if you have pretty regular cycles? I have a pretty spot on 28 day cycle but not 100% sure when I ovulate in there?

Thanks
Lisa xx

izzybizzybuzzybees · 09/07/2011 13:05

Hi LisaJayneS,

The CBFM measures your fertility in two ways. It detects a hormone called oestrogen which is responsible for the ferile EWCM mucus that you see before impending ovulation. When it detects a rise in oestrogen the monitor displays a HIGH ferility reading.

The second thing the monitor detects is LH (luteinizing hormone), this hormone surges immediately preceding ovulation. When the monitor detects the LH surge it displays a PEAK reading, which indicates that ovulation will occur within 12-36hours.

The monitor is good in that it detects both these HIGH ferile days and PEAK fertile days so that you know when to dtd as it were.

I highly rate it. I used it for 3 cycles before getting my BFP when ttc#1 and feel it really helped me as i ov any day from cd17-25!!

I'm not sure how helpful it would be in someone witha regular cycle as it is likely you would ov on same day each month but i like the way it basically tells me when i need to dtd with minimal effort, its also uselful as it tracks your cycle so you know exactly where you are and it even flashses when you can expect your period.

All in all worth the money IMO. I bought mine fromamazon and they delivered quickly and are very reasonable considering they are RRP at £100+

Hope that helps!

LisaJayneS · 09/07/2011 13:44

Oooh thanks - they are MUCH cheaper on Amazon - might make it worth a try. We are so desperate to avoid the cost and stress of IUI or IVF Sad xx

raspberrytipple · 09/07/2011 16:28

Thanks Tilly. Although I think I am now now 9DPO and have an uncontrollable urge to poas!! Have felt sick all day, knackered and my boobs hurt. I'm sure I can make up some more symptoms by tonight too!! Think I'm going mad :(

tillydream · 09/07/2011 17:32

raspberrytipple You're not going mad hun - you're just aching inside and we're all on this thread 'cos we know what's that s like! I'm like you and poas as much as I can!!Blush. For me if its a negative, i spend a few days accepting it before it arrives and then I'm 'ok'. i tend to crash harder if I wait for it, but then we're all different and we have to do what works for us!
Sending hugs and don't give up hope.....ever! xx

Keziahhopes · 09/07/2011 18:53

Tilly - thanks. Sorry not DHEA I meant Zita West's Vital DHA. Oops, typed it wrong!!

Hope gynae appointment goes well. Is it your first? If so my first NHS one I felt llittle was done, they have to order more tests - a repeat Semen Analysis, repeat blood tests, a recent smear and ordered a transvaginal scan to check health of uterus, ovaries etc. then a 3 month wait to see them again, with more tests ordered. Useful, but lots of necessary tests and waiting is ahead if like what I had.

LisaJayneS · 09/07/2011 19:04

Hi Keziahhopes - Just read your message and that sounds exactly like what we are going through with the NHS referral. Had one appt at the start of May and all those tests you mentioned were ordered then should have been a 3 mth wait to see them again but they brought our appointment forward so we are seeing them next week.

Can I ask - did you end up having treatment with the NHS or did you 'go private' and if so (excuse the number of questions to follow!), how do you do that? I have no idea how to go about getting into a private fertility clinic? Does it make a difference to the price? Do they re-order all the tests you've done before? We will have to pay anyway as we have a DS but have been trying 18mths this time with no success so really want to just get things going if we are going to have to pay anyway.

Sorry for totally unloading so many questions on you but this is probably my BIGGEST question just now.

Thanks
Lisa xx

izzybizzybuzzybees · 09/07/2011 19:04

Hi,
Hope you've managed to resist posse rasperrytipple?
I've went out and bought a twin pack of first response tests, will prob do one on the morning when ill be 11dpo so not too ridiculously early is it??

How is everyone else? Hope the witch isn't causing too much pain and havoc!

izzybizzybuzzybees · 09/07/2011 19:05

Posse??? Stupid phone that was of course poas!

LisaJayneS · 09/07/2011 19:05

Also, keziahhopes I notice from your earlier post that you are pregnant? Congratulations on that - was it via treatment or did you get lucky? Either way huge congratulations and GOOD LUCK xxx

Keziahhopes · 09/07/2011 19:09

LisaJayne - hi great they moved it forward! Sadly no NHS treatment for IVF, IUI etc if you already have one child. I would recommend staying with NHS whilst they do the tests - unless you can afford to pay for private treatment if they find say a problem with your uterus that needs surgery etc. The good parts of NHS tests are the checking of uterus, blocked tubes and surgery needed for any issues. What they don't do is give fertility treatment if you have one child.

We have no children, 7 years of ttc (34 months very seriously) and one NHS cycle of IVF. It failed, then 3 months later a natural miracle! Very early days . Thanks.

LisaJayneS · 09/07/2011 19:15

Ahh that's lovely Keziahhopes - have everything crossed that you have a smooth pregnancy. I thought there would be no NHS treatment for us - but as you say we are sticking with them for the tests. I suppose I may as well get as much for free as I can before I am bankrupted paying privately lol!

I guess they would just refer us to a private clinic at the relevant time would they?

Sorry - I realise this is totally of the CBFM topic - apologies ladies for hijacking! Have spent all afternoon looking at CBFM online - waiting for DH to get home to try and convince him to let me waste more money!!

Hope you're all well - Izzy good luck tomorrow with your test - fingers crossed xx

boba82 · 09/07/2011 23:56

Hi tilly I'm fine thanks. I really was a POAS addict! CB made a million from me during the 19 months we were TTC! Maybe we should start a 12 step plan/thread to kick the habit. The CBFM prob makes it worse - getting to POAS every morning! [hsmile]

OP posts:
izzybizzybuzzybees · 10/07/2011 09:18

Oh well, not good news from me this morning. I poas and got a BFN :-( shouldn't really have expected anything but there's always a wee bit of hope waiting for result isn't there??

raspberrytipple · 10/07/2011 09:25

Hiya izzy sorry about your BFN, maybe just to early? I managed to resist as I only have expensive digital ones which I am saving to pee on when I know I am deffo pg so I can actually see the word 'pregnant'.

I would like to second bobas suggestion of a 12 step plan!!! It's what we all need!
