Cloclo, if ovulation was delayed then it will have an automatic knock-on effect on the arrival of ERTD.

As I understand it, the luteal phase (after ovulation, before ERTD) is always the same length for any one woman. Some people have 12 days, some are longer (shorter than 12 is not great as it does not give the egg much time to implant) but in each woman it is always the same. So if your ovulation was delayed by 3 or 4 days then it will automatically make your periood 3 or 4 days late.

Does that make any sense??!!

Cloclo15 · 20/04/2011 18:23

So is it possible that I got a positive on opk on day 16 then didn't ovulate on day 17? What happens if you don't ovulate? Do you still get a normal bleed?

weimy · 20/04/2011 18:26

Thanks for the cake! Af got me properly today very short cycle of 26 days but never mind. Gives me time to think about what I really want. xx

CaveMum · 20/04/2011 18:29

If you don't ovulate, you won't bleed. The hormones released by the egg when it matures are what causes the lining of the womb to thicken. If the hormones are not released the lining cannot thicken.
The lining is shed because the egg (which has not been fertilised) does not send out a chemical signal to the body that it is alive and well and ready to implant.

Cloclo15 · 20/04/2011 18:59

Ok, well I definitely ovulated if today is anything to go by then! That's a bit of a relief, but goodness knows what is going on with that blood test result.

weimy, are you thinking of stopping ttc? Make sure you don't make any big decisions in the grips of af will you? X

TomboyWife · 20/04/2011 19:59

I thought a one-off failure to ov would just cause AF to be late, as opposed to absent?

Sorry to those whom AF has got, and hope you feel better soon Josie. Sad

Today I feel really, really weird. I was sitting at my desk this afternoon reading the Guardian working and felt distinctly faint for a few minutes. That passed, but I've been tired, spaced out, and a wee bit dizzy ever since. I also feel strongly like AF is imminent even though she's not due for a few days yet. What do people think? Promising symptom, or am I just coming down with something? Confused

Imps7 · 20/04/2011 20:16

It does indeed sound like a nice juicy symptom Tomboy. What DPO are you?

CaveMum · 20/04/2011 20:17

Sounds promising Tomboy!

I may well be wrong about ovulation and ERTD, but going by my own experience the reason I have not had a natural period since last June is because I am not ovulating.

TomboyWife · 20/04/2011 20:54

Imps I'm about 9 or 10 DPO. If the pant snot was anything to go by, I laid an egg on Monday or Tuesday of last week.

Cave I'm guessing there's a difference between occasionally not ovulating and always not ovulating? I had several of what I assume were anovulatory cycles last year (very stressful time at work, frequent drowning of sorrows probably didn't help either). AF was always the same as usual when she arrived, even though her schedule was quite erratic.

TomboyWife · 20/04/2011 20:55

Oops, I can't add up. I'm 8 or 9 DPO.

LateToTheTTCParty · 21/04/2011 06:36

Thought it was about time the List was updated (last version of it was on 4 April!) I got completely lost trying to update as so much as happened, so can people update their own stats and re-post?

Good idea re: list Late - I was going to do it last week but realised that it would be a good two hour job! Did think about doing it your way though.

Thanks for updating the list, I have ben meaning to do it too but I've been at work so haven't really had enough time Blush

I'm still ill, it's gone back to my throat now! It better be gone by about 14th May cos that's when my next shag-fest should be Grin. Had a really bad night's sleep, thought the dog was dead at 1am then didn't get to sleep till about 3/4am so I'm exhausted and I'm going to my friend's wake later this afternoon if I can get away from work so it was a bad night and now it'll be a bad day Confused

Have tried to update this on iPhone, hope it works!

CaveMum · 21/04/2011 13:31

Afternoon all, apologies in advance for the me me me post.

I had my hospital appt for my HSG test this morning. Honestly I've never been so uncomfortable in my life! It is like a smear test (hate those at the best of times) except you have to lie there with the speculum in you for 15 flipping minutes while they fill your uterus with barium fluid and take x-rays.
The fluid filling your uterus feels like really bad period cramps and I've got to wear sanitary towels for a few days while all the liquid leaks out!

Anyway, the upshot is that they've discovered that my right Fallopian tube is blocked, though the left one and my uterus look fine. I've got to wait for my next appt on 10 May now where my consultant will give me the result of DHs sperm analysis and tell me the next step. I'm feeling fairly positive at the moment (give me a few days and it could be a different story!) - at least 66.6% of my bits are working ok!

Cloclo15 · 21/04/2011 15:21

Sorry you feel so uncomfortable - cramps are bad enough at the best of times, let alone with a speculum in! You are right to be positive, you are close to knowing what your next steps are and closer still to getting your BFP! Do you know why your tube was blocked? Can you have surgery?

I remember a few years ago I went in for an external and internal ultrasound about a matter that had been going on ages. The doctor told me to relax, I nearly yelled at him 'i'm bloody trying!' The whole thing could have been solved if they had just told me to get off the pill. It was the best form of contraception in the world for me - it made it so painful I couldn't do the deed! I'd never go back on hormonal contraception again, it isn't good for me.

JosieSmith1 · 21/04/2011 16:12

Glad you're feeling optimistic Crow but sorry you've got bad cramps. It's not a dignified process is it. Although it sounds like good news if everything is ok with the left side [busmile]

OP posts:
Imps7 · 21/04/2011 16:56

[busmile] [bugrin] [buwink] [bushock] [buhmm] [buconfused] [bublush]

LOVING the bunnies!!!

Cave that sounds horrible! What an undignified process! Well done you for getting through it - I am quite sure that I would have been sick at some point - the smear pushes me to the edge, I have to say.

It sounds pretty positive, so let's hope for more good news.

Not heard such bad stories about the pill before Cloclo - how nasty for you!

Thank god it's the weekend already! Am meeting up with a friend tonight for dinner. Am considering telling her about TTC - I'd really like someone in RL to talk about it and she'd be the best person. She hasn't got kiddiwinks (although her hubby is really keen to start trying) and she's not nosy or gossipy so I know that I could talk to her in confidence and without her just wanting all the juicy details to satisfy her own curiosity (not that I would tell her all details of course - OH would die of shame if I told her about his little problems last month!!) Dunno really, haven't made up my mind one way or the other. If we can't have children I'd rather that no one ever knew that we were TTC.

Anyone got any nice plans for the Easter weekend?

LateToTheTTCParty · 21/04/2011 18:14

Well done for getting through that horrible appointment Cave, I did think of you today [buwink] Hooray for your 66.6% of bits that are working! I'm sure the good doctors will up that for you - and no pressure on Mr Cave obviously.... [bugrin]

Imps I'm a bit [buconfused] about my temps - they don't seem to have come down to the level they were at before I last laid an egg, could that just be the warm weather? I am also taking my temp fagily (DH thinks I'm disgusting) so hoping for more accurate readings..... I look at Truff's chart and hers went right down when ERTD started, mine has just stayed up - do you think I should poas? [bugrin]

Happy Easter all! I for one am VERY [bugrin] not to be going to work for the next 4 days! Whoop whoop!

LateToTheTTCParty · 21/04/2011 18:16

btw, has anyone tried those fertility tests that you can buy on Amazon? DH wants to check his sperm motility without going to the docs, but if they're not accurate there's no point really, is there?

Imps7 · 21/04/2011 23:46

POAS POAS POAS POAS!!! Possibly no point, but do it anyway!!

I hear that fadgle (fadgil? fadgal?) temps are higher than oral temps so that could account for the difference - I think you can only compare once you have done two complete cycles in the same way. Hopefully though you won't have to do another cycle after this one!

Righto, off to bed - have an early start tomorrow!

CaveMum · 22/04/2011 08:35

Thanks everyone. Had a bit of a wobble last night and started getting way ahead of myself. A quick kippering from DH calmed me down though: he's definitely the sensible one in this relationship!

If there are any grads lurking that can give me positive similar stories it would be much appreciated!

Enjoy the long, sunny weekend all!

weimy · 22/04/2011 11:49

Hi all!

Hope everyone is ok:)

cloclo I am having a bit of a wobble and have decided it might be best to stop poas and charting and doing anything with any intent. I'm going to concentrate on the dogs and horseriding for a bit and just chillax.

Cloclo15 · 22/04/2011 12:19

Good idea - I intended to start temping in the morning but keep forgetting to do it and now not sure I'm going to bother. I wanted to see if I was ovulating but I'm sure it doesn't matter - the docs will be able to tell me! Ice been having a big wobble - keep bursting into tears and stuff but I definitely want this, so just got to keep trying :)
