The (updated)(again)(again) 'rules' from our Just Shagging Originator for the Viroids:

Maintain a relaxed attitude at all times - drink if you want too, especially on your birthday (or when you've had bad news). Thread precedent dictates if you drink to excess you will get a BFP (but not recommended). (But it does work).

Covet thy husband and enjoy every minute. Shag at every opportunity - shag-capes and awesome superpowers optional.

Keep acronym-age to a minimum! EWCM is now to be referred to as 'pant snot'. Try not to get sucked in by Fertility Friend (at least for a while), but knowing where you are in your cycle and furkling for pant snot is most definitely allowed.
OV is ovulation - I'm allowed to forget what date I've OVd, feel free to join me on that one!

Bunting is to be put out for any small victory, thread-parties are held regularly and hugs are always welcome! Grin

Once you have your BFP, feel free to hang around and share your wisdom and virtual cocktails with the JSers.

Keep us up to date with gossip!

Most of these rules are well and truly broken!! But we try to chill - honest

Wow Pan, that sounds fantastic, well done (did I mention that DD arrived at 8months 1 week?- would stash your hospital bag in someone's tuba or something).
I am hoping to avoid watching any rugby this weekend, but think it's a slim hope. Will have to fit JSing around that, hmph.
Fingers crossed ALOT for you Bambam and hope that you've just got a shy little bean in there who doesn't want to announce on sticks yet.
And Penguin think we're cycleish buddies (I was Saturday, you Monday, no?) so fingers crossed for us for this cycle.
Hope that back at work is okay Josie and would be brilliant if you had a sneaky pregnancy. Maybe mention to doctor if they are talking meds and see if they'll do a blood test for you?
I went to a Ballet Fit class last night. I always wanted to go to ballet when little and my mother wouldn't let me unless the class would accept my little brother too. And back in the '80s in ruralshire they would not. But now I am fully fledged v malco adult and can dance where I like when I like. So off I trotted. It was hilarious. Barre exercises were okay but then we had to learn a routine. Some of the girls were good and took it seriously, but I was more in the herd of elephants gang. Gosh, I found it tricky. I am fit, but not v supple or co-ordinated, so was a proper challenge. Not sure whether it was actually a workout yet, but was a good laugh for me at least. Zumba this weekend as well, just call me twinkle toes!!

JosieSmith1 · 15/03/2011 11:35

Caramel that sounds fab! I did tap when I was younger but was pathetic at it! I was always shoved at the back because I never knew the routines so just tried to copy everyone else Blush I'm hoping for a sneaky pergnancy but think I'll be disappointed Grin Can you imagine how my colleagues would laugh if, after all the commotion I've caused recently, I was pg all along Grin

essenceofSES · 15/03/2011 11:40

You lot make me Grin

Josie - I'm also hoping that England slaughter the Irish and seeing as DS will be with me on match day, I'll be getting him to cheer for England too :) (Much toDH's disgust!)

nickel - DH is going out straight from work on Thurs. Will have to have (unplanned of course Hmm ) sex Wed, Fri and Mon evenings. I'm expecting to ovulate next Tuesday so hope that will cover us!

Caramel - I'm v impressed with your dancing! I gave up ballet aged 6 for piano lessons as I am not at all co-ordinated!

Right must get on with work! Catch you later!!

nickelbabysnatcher · 15/03/2011 11:45

caramelgirl · 15/03/2011 11:53

hahaha, I am definitely in the pathetic league- thrown out of recorder class aged eight and made to mime in senior school choir (they needed the numbers but not my tunelessness!).

Josie I think that you should focus on how embarassing it would be if you were pregnant and then maybe Murphy's Law will kick in and make it work out. And, hang on a darn minute, Murphy is an Irish name so surely St Patrick should fix it, no?
Essence I don't get how people with a small person have unplanned sex anyway. Tho' I get the giggles when it is v planned which I fear is not a mega turn on for poor DH. Just seems a bit sperm donorish.

No work to get on with but kitchen tidying up to R2- cool as, me!

nickelbabysnatcher · 15/03/2011 11:59

you'll get there, caramel - i do belly dancing, and at the start, I was flumoxed as to how my body could move that way, but now I'm quite good!

And that's horrible what they did for you in the school choir - they shouldn't do that to children. They should have either not taken you, or taught you how to sing properly. Angry

babylann · 15/03/2011 12:46

Hello everyone, I've been very busy so haven't been able to keep up! I'll have a proper read later as I'm on my phone but just thought I'd update that we went to register at the doctors last night and I've been advised to go on the pill to regulate my periods... A bit annoying obviously but seems to be the best idea.. The problem is though that I had pre-eclampsia with dd, which means if I go on the pill I have to have my blood pressure checked every fortnight for the first few months! Oh well, all for the greater good I guess. Does mean ttc is kind of out of the window for a few months :(

nickelbabysnatcher · 15/03/2011 12:53

what an odd suggestion.
Did you explain that you were TTC?
Confused

caramelgirl · 15/03/2011 13:01

hmmmm, babylann, not a medical person at all, but am a trained nutritional therapist . Obviously, don't know anything about your medical background, so hope that this isn't too presumptuous or rude. It's just that I've seen a few people with hormonal balance issues which the pill did not help, but instead messed up a bit more. For instance it can mask symptoms by chemically regulating periods, but may not have a long term effect. You do often get a fertility boost just as you come off it, but it can also lead to zinc/copper imbalances which could potentially affect fertility/immune system.

How open to hippiness are you? Would you consider seeing a qualified herbalist (think some are medical). I saw one to help regulate periods/hormones before conceiving DD, but can't get hold of her this time so am on agnus castus and trying to find someone else who looks trustworthy (I am a bit of a snob, last one was NatSci from Cambridge so thought she wouldn't be too mystical).

Also are you on a general good diet (low GI, aiming to balance blood sugar to keep hormones in good shape)? You could do these alongside pill if you thought best to be on it (tho' you'd need to tell herbalist - you can always check any supplement/medication/herb clashes yourself at www.solgar.co.uk/healthnotes/healthnotes.asp)
Hope this isn't too intrusive and hope that it helped to chat with doctor anyway.
Nickel, s'alright, I'm not too scarred by it- turns out that I sing alright, just quite low. Our teacher wanted to teach at boys' school but he'd been banned from there Hmm so he tried to make the girls sing like pre-pubescent boys. Lots of us croakers had to mime at concerts etc.! Looking back that does seem a bit weird, eh?
Hope haven't outed self with bossiness and revelations re: tunelessness...

caramelgirl · 15/03/2011 13:51

sorry if that came across as bossy, I've been trying for four cycles so clearly don't have all the answers at all - wish I did!

vallinnapod · 15/03/2011 14:32

OK, I really shouldn't be here but am still slightly in denile at 15+2 so just keeping all bases covered.

I also wanted to jump out to say to Babylann please, please question your doc re: the pill. Those oldies on the board know my story well but I came off the pill after 11 years and haven't had a natural period since. I was then diagnosed with PCOS (which the fake periods the pill gives you had masked) and in the end fertility drugs (Clomid and Letrozole) had no effect and I ended up going for IVF. This is obviously really extreme and I don't blame the pill for any of it but if I had been aware of my PCOS issues I would have tried to sort it out more 'naturally' before TTC.

As I say, my PG is due to IVF but I do not discount a low GI diet and metformin helping massively (as well as acupuncture)

As you can tell I really lived the JSing mentality but the lovely ladies took me in any way Grin

nickelbabysnatcher · 15/03/2011 15:29

caramel - he sounds odd. He should have found each of your voices and worked with it.
Shame I don't know you IRL, i'd get you to sing (i'm not an expert, though!)

NervousNelly · 15/03/2011 22:11

Evening all.

Just wanted to say I was symptom spotting today Wink. It was a ridiculous thing to do, given I'm only 6DPO, but why let that ruin the fun? So I came up with heartburn, and chose to ignore the fact that I'd eaten a lasagne and chips for lunch, followed by a latte and a brownie. Grin.

Also, forget to mention something very alarming. I was playing Words with Friends on my iphone, and the person I was playing against played "Viroid". EEK Shock. Are they on here??? Or have they outed me? By the way if anyone fancies setting up a game, PM me your username and I'll happily play with you .

Hope all is well in Viroid-land :)

babylann · 15/03/2011 23:45

Thank you for the advice everyone. I've been thinking about it all day and decided you're probably right. I don't want to go on the pill as it might mask a more serious problem.

Because we were registering at the time, I didn't actually get a prescription on the day. I had to book another appointment to see the doctor (also got to go for blood tests on an unrelated matter) so I'll have a more in-depth conversation about it then.

I didn't mention that I was trying for a baby. To be honest, every person who works at the surgery uses English as a second language and it makes it really difficult to communicate with them. Usually I just want to get the conversation over and done with as fast as possible...

And I'm such a coward. I HATE going to the doctors. I do fine until they whip out the blood pressure monitor - perhaps it's a trauma from the pre-eclampsia days where every BP check was bad news... My blood pressure is fine, but within a second of it being put around my arm I start freaking out worrying about the results and that makes my heart rate shoot up. Yesterday it went up to 135bpm... obviously very bad when it's not supposed to be higher than 80. Every time I go to the doctors, they get side tracked by my alleged heart rate problems and I get probed and prodded about it and signed up for scans and ECGs and they ignore what I actually went for in the first place.

A couple of months after DD was born, I went about my blood pressure medication, and it set me off on an adventure of medical diagnostics including an MRI, chest x-ray, ECG, ultrasound just because my heart rate was high. I keep explaining to them that when I test it at home, it's fine, I just get extremely anxious at the doctors.

I've never known myself have such an awkward reaction to any situation in my life. I get really hot, my face goes bright red, my heart rate shoots up and (weirdly) my wrist starts itching and I scratch it until it goes bright red and almost starts bleeding, all in the 5 minutes of one GP appointment. But they just think I've got a heart problem and send me off for more tests again.

So anyway, yes, I'll tell them I don't want to go on the pill and want to know what is wrong with me down there. I get a lot of pains in my pelvis (usually on the left side but occasionally on the right or sometimes both sides) which always makes me say "my ovaries are hurting". I get a lot of ERTD symptoms even when I'm nowhere near my due date. Pain in my back and legs, which reminds me of when I was in labour. And obviously the absence of periods on a regular basis, and then unusual periods when I do have them. I think it's important I find out why rather than just trying to get it fixed.

But no doubt I'll be sent off for tests on my heart again and leave without any answers Grin

nickelbabysnatcher · 16/03/2011 09:56

Okay, here's what you do.

when you're feeling calm, and resting, take your pulse.
It's easy to do, just put your first and middle finger on your wrist, at the side where the thumb is. You'll feel the pulse.
then count it for 15 seconds and multiply by 4. That's your pulse in bpm.

Write that down on a piece of paper.

On the same piece of paper write down all your concerns.
All of them - the fact that you had pre-eclampsia with your last baby, the fact you are TTC, the irregularity of your periods, mid cycle symptoms, stress when you have your blood pressure taken etc.

Then when you go to the doctor, give him the piece of paper.
Tell him they are your concerns.
and that that's your normal resting pulse

babylann · 16/03/2011 10:24

Yeah that's a great idea, thank you. :) Generally pulse is exactly 80 when I test at home, which still isn't great I've heard, but significantly less worrying than 135 ;)

nickelbabysnatcher · 16/03/2011 10:31

I think mine's about 80 too, and I have very low blood pressure.
So it sounds fine to me.. :)

JosieSmith1 · 16/03/2011 10:37

Babylann I have kidney problems so when I was younger in particular (about 4 or 5) they monitored my blood pressure regularly and it was always high, until one day I said to mam that the beds they made me lie on in the gps scared me cos I'd had 4 operations and I associated them with that experience. Mam asked the docs the next time if I could sit on the seat instead and from then on it's been fine. The anxiety of being on the bed made it shoot up. How annoying for you, especially when you know exactly why it's happening and they still don't listen!

Having a bit of a down day today but I know that and so can employ some strategies to get through it and tomorrow is another day and if I can go down so quickly, I can come back up just as quickly so gonna keep reminding myself of that today. There's no quick fix but at least I know what's going on and can deal with it much better

babylann · 16/03/2011 19:37

I'm sorry to hear about your kidney problems Josie but you're exactly right, it's very annoying!

Horrendous ERTD pains at the moment, maybe it's finally rearing its ugly head.

BamBam21 · 16/03/2011 20:05

Hi viroids. Sorry I've been missing.

Glad to hear you went to the doctor babylann, but I agree that the pill would be a quick fix for the doctor to give you, and they need to investigate properly so you can get on with TTC.

ERTD finally came yesterday lunchtime. I woke during Monday night with hellish cramps, and it's been pretty sore ever since, but hopefully will be gone in the next couple of days.

Went to see my mum today (she knows we are TTC) and she told me that perhaps we were "adopting the wrong position" and that maybe I could try popping a pillow under my bum!GrinShockBlush Anyone else had TMI-style embarrassing advice from their dear old mum?Grin

panpipe · 16/03/2011 22:03

Lol at your mum Bam! No embarrassing advice from my mum (they don't know we're ttc) but apparently I was conceived quite quickly so my dad does take pleasure in boasting about how "I barely needed to take my trousers off and your mother was pregnant!" Actually since it's only taken 2 months for us maybe we're a very fertile family!

JosieSmith1 · 16/03/2011 22:09

Babylann, it doesn't really bother me now except I've only got one working kidney, doesn't really cause any problems now.

Sorry you've got bad ERTD Bam. Haven't had advice off mam but she did tell me a story once of when she and dad first started dating and for their first time she puton some 'female deodorant' and it made all her hair down there stick together BlushGrin

I feel like I should be due ERTD any minute - getting weird cramp type feelings and I've been drinking loads of water recently Hmm but no signs of oving Confused

babylann · 16/03/2011 22:25

The other day my mum joked to me that she and my dad use the "rhythm method". I don't even know what that is! Is it withdrawal?

She was joking anyway, she's had her tubes tied, but it still made me a bit Blush

nickelbabysnatcher · 17/03/2011 10:16

babylann - it's using your temperatures to work out when you're least fertile - kind of the opposite of what we're doing!
Grin

I took my pulse last night - first time was 76 and the 2nd time it was 72.
not bad, then.

babylann · 17/03/2011 10:39

I've written my list now :) pulse was exactly 80 last night, as usual, but I thought if I write down my pulse every night from yesterday until my appointment, that's a bit more evidence anyway. Feeling a bit more confident about it now that I've got my little piece of paper to go with.
