A continuation of so many threads spent waiting to ttc that I've completely forgotten what number thread we're on.

If you're waiting to ttc, stop by and say hello! Smile

OP posts:
DarciesmumandTTC2 · 22/02/2011 12:30

My DP is quite happy about me taking folic acid :) think its settling in that this is happening esp after the ovarian scare at the beginning of the month

DarciesmumandTTC2 · 22/02/2011 12:31

I do recommend buying the mumsnet guides, i have them all from DD and they are brilliant gives so much information

JustShaggingForNow · 22/02/2011 12:58

Hmm - I have just started takig Folic Acid this morning. Was taking it last year when I thought that TTC was a little more iminent than it turned out to be and have only just realised that I will need to start it now if I want to start TTC on holiday!

Accorting to iPeriod it is exactly 9 weeks today until my April/May fertile period which will put me on the January 2012 bus! ShockGrinShock !!!

Now I've just got to remember to take the damn FA every morning...... I used to be so good whenIi had to remember to take my pill but now I don't have anythgin to take on a regular basis I am a bit rubbish. Better put the FA on the bedside table :)

Had my weekly cry to OBEM last night... how brilliant was the "geriatric mum" and her DH? too cute

JustShaggingForNow · 22/02/2011 13:01

Oh - forgot to ask... what are people's views on giving up alcohol when TTC?!?

I'm not a massive drinker on a regular basis but like a glass of wine after a stressful day in the office and have been know to indulge in the occasional (ok, not quite so infrequent!!!) jagerbomb fuelled, dancing on bars night out! Do I have to stop when we are TTC or can I just wait until I am (hopefully) upduffed?!?

DarciesmumandTTC2 · 22/02/2011 13:09

JS Is Iperiod on Iphone? I want to TTC same time as you which would put me on the Jan bus too :)

Well i'm doing it all by the book this time. With DD I didn't know I was preggers till I was between 18 & 21 wks, and during those months I was out drinking most weekends after a busy work week and DD is fine. As i'm planning it this time and I have several medical issues I need to do it by the book, esp as I want to give birth in a birthing centre rather than the main hospital.

JustShaggingForNow · 22/02/2011 14:11

Yup - on my iPhone. Been using it since I came off the pill and I guess it will be useful if I find ti hard to get upduffed. My cycles are all over the place and so who knows how long it will take me!

I am totally clueless on these things but would imagine that I would like to be in a hospital (in a private room as I think you can pay for your own room at the hospital I would be going to) and have access to every drug I could possibly need! I think I'd like to be able to use a pool but very much doubt that I'd get through it with just that! I'm probably in the minority these days but for me (and I'm not sayiong I am right) I think that if the drugs are there, why not use them when you need them!!

Am sure that NCT classes will try and knock that out of me so that I opt for a natural birth but I'm pretty stubborn and at the end of the day I'll do whatever I need to to get my LO out safely. If that's a CS, so be it.

I was an ECS and my Mum had a horrific time (I was very distressed and as it was so rushed she felt them cut her open to get me out because they had not given her enough drugs) but it hasn't harmed me!

What was your first labout like Darcies (if you don't mind sharing - I am a bit nosey so tell be to back off if it's too private) Any other who want to share their stories then please feel free as I'd love to hear different experiences.

JustShaggingForNow · 22/02/2011 14:12

Oh - and Darcies - we might be bus buddies!! Yay! Is it sad that i have already worked out my due date if we miraculously get upduffed on holiday!?

DarciesmumandTTC2 · 22/02/2011 14:35

My labour was a wonderful experience. 10hrs in labour a natural birth and all I had was pethidine and half a tank of gas and air. DD was born in her waters she looked like she was born in a bubble lol. If they had broken my waters when I first got to the birthing unit then she would of been a 5hr labour, but I wanted all natural. TBH the pain isn't that bad, if you tell yourself its going to hurt and the kid is only coming out one way your bodys endorfens kick in and take some of the edge off. Just next time I will express my milk into a bottle. I bottle fed DD but didn't use my milk and god did I pay for it afterwards felt like I had hot and heavy weights on my chest! I will bottle feed next time just express my milk and top up with formula. I know Breastfeeding is the best thing it just freaks me out.

totally against CS unless for medical reasons ie distressed baby. Will be alot worse post natel afterwards for you as can't do much for 6wks.

If I get PG before DP goes to vegas then I'll be a late dec, afterwards then Jan baby :)

Quodlibet · 22/02/2011 14:44

JS I reckon my policy will be to carry on drinking as normal until a pg is confirmed. On balance, I don't drink a massive amount anyway and I eat really healthily, am healthy weight etc. (Warning: Dampener statistics coming) From what I've read even if you manage to nail your fertile time, there's only a 25% chance that a pregnancy will result each cycle. Looking down the line, I personally will go mental if I'm expecting to be pg every month, rather than trying to get on with life as normally as possible and trying to take it as it comes. For me abandoning alcohol/caffeine etc and all the faff that would result would be a constant reminder of TTC, which I don't think would be good for me, iyswim?

I was thinking this morning about my fitness goals before TTC. I'm trying to get in as good shape as I can before as I've had back problems before and want to get my core and back as strong as possible to ward off possible problems. What's everyone else thinking on this front?

JustShaggingForNow · 22/02/2011 14:46

BF is such a contraversial topic on here - it's kind of funny. I always think that each woman should do what is right for her and her baby and not be pressured into FF of BF by other people. My mum battled with BF me (after a horrific birth) for 6 weeks and was made to feel like a failure when i didn't thrive. She switched to FF and she was happier and I did a lot better - how can that be wrong?

I also wonder on the CS and 6 weeks thing. Again - usiong my mum as an example as she is the only person of her generation who had one that I know well enough to talk to about it. She said it was unpleasant and that she was made to feel a failure by some poeple and told that she'd "had it easy" by others Hmm but that there was no guidance about not doing much for the first 6 weeks. I guess we are all a lot more cautious these days. I suppose it also depends on your body and how strong it is.

Your labour sounds like it was a good experience which is always nice to hear! I think I'll probably have some complications as I have a very small pelvis for my size and have also has a cone biopsy on my cervix but fingers crossed that whatever intervention I do need is simple!

DarciesmumandTTC2 · 22/02/2011 14:55

I could go without alcohol, can't go without my 5 cups of tea a day Grin

CS aren't easy post natally.

I have a small pelvis but you'll be surprised how it stretches to make room for the baby. DD was 7lbs6oz at birth anything bigger makes me want to cross my legs lol! I never went to any antenatel classes just told myself its only coming out one way its gonna hurt end of lol! one tip I have is to keep walking around for as long as possible (gravity) I walked around for 6hrs had to laydown as was shattered had no sleep in 24hrs as went into labour at midnight and hadn't actually gone to sleep by then lol.

JustShaggingForNow · 22/02/2011 14:56

Quod - I think we have similar attitudes to it but I just know that every month I will by symptom spotting and then probably crying when AF arrives!

On the fitness front, that was part of the reason that I wanted to get fit and so signed up for the half marathon. I walk to and from the station every day (about 1 mile each way) and then run 2/4 times a week and do yoga 1/2 times a week. There are so many stuides to say that the fitter and healthier you are the easier your pregnancy and labour will be. Yoga is particularly good as it strengthens the core and helps you manage your breathing (both of which I guess are handy in labour!!)

I was also keen to exercise during PG as it is a good way to keep your weight in check in a healthy fashion and there are also reported benefits of the LO being a healthier weight at birth and decreased chancecf of obesity in later life. You can;t start once you get PG and so I though if I started before then it would mean I could just carry on.

I'd also like to try and get my pre-PG figure back (I know this sounds vain but....)and I can't see this happening without some work during and after!! Wink

Quodlibet · 22/02/2011 15:33

Oh I'm sure I will be symptom spotting and crying too! But I'd like to keep life as normal as possible aside from that.

That is an impressive fitness regime! I'm really enjoying being able to exercise again after a couple of years of on/off back pain issues from a slipped disc and am finally getting some payoff (I do dynamic pilates and yoga, plus have recently got into the Shred as a convenient 25 minute fitness thing). I think you're right about trying to get as fit as possible before pg to give yourself as high a chance as possible of maintaining it during and after. I don't reckon it's vain to want to get your figure back after pg, who wouldn't want that! Plus I reckon that being good at physically challenging yourself and getting through it has got to be useful preparation for labour.

JustShaggingForNow · 22/02/2011 15:50

lets hope so!!
Someone I know has done a marathon and given birth and aparently the marathon was harder.... not sure what that means for a half marathon!!

just seen how appauling my typing was in that last post - I need to slow down and not try to sneak in posts whilst I am flat out in the office!!!

Lavendergirl · 22/02/2011 15:57

Hi all I've waited 3 years for the 'right' time, and this isn't the right time anymore as I'll be forty (argh) very soon. So am throwing caution to the wind an starting asap! My DD is 4 and a half and don't want an even bigger gap either. So which board to I go to now? TTC?

DarciesmumandTTC2 · 22/02/2011 16:26

I'm not really fit per se. However, I know I could do labour fine and get my body shape back in no time. so not to worried about it :)

LG welcome you can stay on this board and or join the TTC bus on the conception board.

RosyRosie · 22/02/2011 16:30

I daren't buy anything! I think I'll jinx it if I do....we just started buying things and being given things last time, and then, baby gone. They've been hidden away in the deepest darkest places ever since.....

Lavendergirl · 22/02/2011 16:59

Thanks Darciesmum, I'll keep checking in here as well as looking at the TTC as I can't remember what are the best things to do anymore. I've forgotten everything about pregnancy and TTC! I've just downloaded the iperiod app and set it up. Now just need to wait for a bit :-) I just hope i haven't left it too late. My DD keeps asking for a little sister of brother and patting my stomach as if to check. (argh)

DarciesmumandTTC2 · 22/02/2011 17:08

The things I remember about pregnancy is getting a very large bump, lots of heartburn and cravings for maccy ds hashbrowns and refresher icelollies lol.
as for TTC DD wasn't planned so have no idea there really lol.

DD keeps asking for a brother or sister and by the time this one arrives she'll be almost 7!

I a few friends have not had theirs till their late thirties, early forties so think you'll be fine :)

DarciesmumandTTC2 · 22/02/2011 19:23

You can never have enough with the milky puke and dribbles lol.

Capreece · 23/02/2011 10:06

I'm not buying anything, but I have knitted a couple of bits (ostensibly as small projects to practice my knitting... Hmm ) and my friend is keeping all her little boys' things for me - luckily I have no issues dressing little girls in green and blue if needs be! lol

Does anybody else veer wildly between desperately wanting to get pregnant and being totally terrified and feeling like you're being ridiculously conceited to think you could actually be someone's mum?

I seriously think then when we go for this it'll be like closing my eyes and jumping off a high springboard!

Capreece · 23/02/2011 10:25

Um. I just bought 15 pregnancy test strips on Amazon.

Blush
JustShaggingForNow · 23/02/2011 10:44

Capreece - do you think that buying the HPTs from Amazon is equivalent to taking a run up before jumping?

I have one HPT (froma pack of 2 after my strange symptoms in January) stashed in my knicker drawer as DH will never go in there! Can't wait to open it come May. I am going to need every ounce of willpower to not tests ridiculously early!!

Quod are we going to be 2WW buddies in May?

Quodlibet · 23/02/2011 10:53

Capreece, I feel exactly like that.
