To POAS or not to POAS? That is the question!

Arsecrackers. Sorry TMI coming up but 6dpo and traces of pink on tissue when I went to loo. Would love to kid myself it could be implantation, but it was exactly the same last month and then AF arrived 8dpo. This is rubbish Sad

Sorry for mememe and self-pity, just starting to feel the Doooooooom here...should be 33 weeks pg and getting ready for mat leave now and instead I'm back to ttc and getting nowhere, with a useless luteal phase that I don't know how to sort out!!! Grrrrrrr....,

IzzyWizzyletsgetsomesparklers · 03/11/2010 18:25

PS nix you're evil!! Poor MrPink !!! Grin

Jamface · 03/11/2010 18:38

Hi Izzy,
Have you talked to your doctor about it? Could you talk with a nutritionist about agnus castus (and any other stuff) which could prolong it? I'm sorry, I can't remember if you go to acupuncture at the moment but that's helped to regulate mine again. I know it's so frustrating when your body just isn't being fair. I'm sure it'll sort itself out with time but maybe you can find a way of giving it a helping hand? x

p.s. just done a quick google and some people say B6 to extend luteal phase

OrangeToeNails · 03/11/2010 18:40

Thanks for info getdown and explains why I have no line today. Telling myself I won't test again until 1st AF

I'm doing the same with grapefruit juice when it's time, just saying it's "good for me"

Jamface · 03/11/2010 19:07

Just on subject of OPKs as well, I have never had a line darker than test, not even as dark I think, but am pretty sure that this is because I drink lots of water so bear that in mind if you're using them too (mine tell me to not drink too much and to try not to go to the loo for 4 hours before testing - impossible!) x

youremindmeofthebonfire · 03/11/2010 19:22

i need a slap. just done a hpt. neg. Sad and it's my due date in 25 days, so last chance to be pg before my due date. SadSadSad

meh.

IzzyWizzyletsgetsomesparklers · 03/11/2010 19:31

YRMOTB herewith a slap with large haddock and (((hugs))). Hopefully you're just testing too early? x

jam yep I'm on the b6, been a bit wary of agnus castus since reading mixed things on here, and I did go to the dr but she said she couldn't do anything, not even basic progesterone test, without referral to fc, which they couldn't do for "at least 12-18 months" given my age and that I'd recently been pg.

I am seeing the acupuncturist though who specialises in fertility and says she has a lot of success sorting out luteal phases and is confident she can help. She has also offered to write to gp if no luck by January-ish to ask them to do a prog test - she thinks gp could have done it but just looked at my note, saw a mc in July and dismissed me as neurotic. And I'm sure that was what happened. Now I'm not saying I'm not neurotic but I have identified a potential problem so I think they could have been more helpful.

However I have only had 2 sessions with acupuncturist so still hopeful she can help. Got to remain positive!!

fireworknix · 03/11/2010 19:41

Izzy bonfire sounds like we all need a big ((((( hug )))))

I drove down from Redditch to Bristol am now holed up in my hotel room having eated a huge haddock (saved the skin to wave at you bonfire but i will shove it out in the corridor 'cos you need a cuddle not a slap!)Incidentally, i followed the haddock and chips with a huge plate of nachos and garlic bread.... so much for the detox :( Angry

Shit.... have just realised i only brought my skinny, too small suit with me.... Hmm oops!

Oh and another point, i cried my eyes out this afternoon til it hurt :( snottered (likes the term owls) like a 3 year old on the M5!! Very wobbly this week for some reason, must be hormones surely? AF finished just left with pink jelly like substance :(

Izz bonfire i know i keep quoting TCOYF but i read the other day that during the first few cycles post MC your body is constantly giving off mixed signals etc when you think it may be OV, it may not be.... it doesnt seem to know what to do...maybe that applies to you fondant... although the temps wouldnt lie would they? Maybe you are ov twice and the book is wrong! Im certain i have ov twice in the same cycle a week apart!

izz hope it is implantation.... :) Sorry if its not, 6dpo AF is not good. Look into agcast? Supposed to help with luteal phase defect (sorry you arent defected, just the term) or agree with jam maybe try acupuncture?

Bonfire extra big hug for you babes xxxxx you may still be pregnant, may just be too early xxxxx FX

jam re OPKS i was getting faint lines for days, then i actually ov day 23/24 and the lines were mega dark. I drink tons too and have a weak bladder coutesy of crap pelvic floors!

To those GF Drinkers this month, dont drink too much, you may find yourself turning into slugs! Grin

Tahnks for the hugs ladees.... its helped :) not feeling quite so mis or maudlin now,,, but that could just be the banquet kicking in!!

AandRMum · 03/11/2010 19:48

YRMOB I think Lolly had a number of neg hpts in the days just before her bfp. It's all in there to play for. Looming dates are horrible. Big hugs.

On the Signs of ovulation thing on the rhs of this thread they said something about OPKs not being hugely reliable if you have a long cycle or irregular cycle ... I don't know if that explains anything about all the strange things happening with everyone's OPK ...
Anyone done the fern spotting oral OPK thing?

fireworknix · 03/11/2010 19:48

x posts Izz Angry at your GP why are they so wank? Has anyone read the lily allen thread? There is a lady on there daisy who has written a letter to the daily mail following on from Lily Allen article, and a letter written by another mum about late MC/stillbirth... calls to question the crap hospital procedures about refusing to test women etc ie prevention rather than cure- its being published on friday/monday!

If nothing else a high profile ceeeleb going through it will certainly help the cause! tho FX none of us have to go through it again x

fireworknix · 03/11/2010 19:49

whats the fern spotting oral opk?

youremindmeofthebonfire · 03/11/2010 19:52

I saw that oral ferny thing aandr, i thought i might buy myself one if not updiffed this month, they're on ebay for a tenner.Seems more doable to me than my temps.

Its good the DM are publishing! i will post the other letter being published :)

fireworknix · 03/11/2010 20:07

this is the letter by daisyJ on anpther thread..being published by DM

Dear Sir

Thank you for publishing Rachel Morarjee?s eloquent open letter to Lily Allen (3 November). She spoke from the heart about an issue that is rarely discussed and little understood. The common belief that a pregnancy is ?safe? after 12 weeks discounts the thousands of women (and men) affected by late miscarriages and still births each year, some of which might be avoidable if it were possible to implement a system of screening for women who were trying to conceive or in the early stages of pregnancy.

As anyone who has experienced it is aware, antenatal care is already something of a lottery in this country ? in some areas pregnant women see a midwife at around 10 weeks, in others not until after the 12-week scan. Even if comprehensive pre-conception screening were not an option, an extra test to check at an early stage, for example, for antiphospholipid syndrome, requiring low-dose aspirin as a treatment in pregnancy, would save hundreds of babies' lives every year. As it is, a woman usually has to wait until she has endured three losses before tests are routinely offered. Of course early miscarriage is incredibly common, and usually just a matter of bad luck ? nature?s way of dealing with a chromosomal abnormality in the embryo, a baby that never could have survived ? but this is no consolation to the women who go on to suffer multiple losses (at any stage) that could have been avoided had they been aware that there was a problem that might have been dealt with ? not an abnormality in the foetus itself, but something for which they themselves could have received treatment.

To pre-empt any argument over the expense of screening programs, I can only imagine that the cost of a few hundred thousand blood tests would be at least partially compensated for by the saving on the cost of scanning, treating and counselling those women who avoidably miscarry or give birth to still-born children every year.

I hope that if nothing else Lily Allen?s terribly public losses, and Rachel?s response, can serve some small purpose in beginning a long-overdue discussion.

Yours faithfully,

Etc

AandRMum · 03/11/2010 20:18

This is what the MN site says about Fern Testing

Believe it or not, the pattern your saliva dries in indicates whether you're about to ovulate. You'll need to buy a salivary OPK - basically a microscope - to detect if your saliva dries in a fern-like pattern.
"I have been using my saliva ovulation scope and had strong ferning yesterday but didn't manage SEX so did it this morning and had a negative result on the saliva microscope so looking poor for this month." decorativeD2Bmum

MummyAbroad · 03/11/2010 20:24

Hello ladies!

Sorry I've been absent for a bit. I've been feeling a bit like Nix was, didnt really know how to join in and the thread is so fast too - if you dither for a moment you loose your chance!

Anyway Pink sweetie, sorry about your ov crisis! Where is your chart? Lets see! Lets see! I totally agree with Izzy's comments and would have said exactly the same, FF doesnt lie (well at least not eventutally. Sometimes it changes its mind as you feed in new info) I suspect that CBFM does occasionally lie because part of the info it is using is what happened on previous cycles. Also an LH surge is not a primary sign of fertility (its not any sign actually) but temps and CM are primary signs so you should trust them. BUT panic shag for a possible second ov is a good idea - did you manange it? OK - here is something really controversial to read - detecting high LH post ov could be a sign of BFP www.peeonastick.com/opkhpt.html

sorry if I encouraging the addiction here, feel free to slap me with the fish but if I were you I'd say go pee on somethingGrin

MummyAbroad · 03/11/2010 20:38

Nix sorry you have been feeling wierd. Me too. Its just hard staying on top of it all the time I think. You do cheer us up tons on this thread though, so I hope this mood lifts soon. Thanks for Lily Allen links will read them in a mo.

Izzy pants about the lutueal phase. It could be something else though, so dont write everything off just yet. Are you taking your b6 alongside a multi vit or other bvitamins? I read that all B vits need other b vits in order to be absorbed properly. How much B vit are you taking? and when? (its better if you take two doses a day, instead of one) maybe up the dose? Have you tried progesterone cream?

Have you considered having that progesterone test done privately? It cost me about £130 in Costa Rica (actually this was a "hormone package" and included lots of other stuff like ovarian reserve to see if menaupause is approaching, tests for PCOS, prolactin etc) Maybe you could work out what you want to experiement with and for how many months, and then have a cut off point where you go and get help again. Your GP sounds rubbish, what about going back when there is a locum and tell a bit fat lie about how you hardly ever have periods asking again?

xxx

MummyAbroad · 03/11/2010 20:51

sorry for the disconnected posts by the way, I am racing to press "send" before DS presses "delete" Confused

YRMOTB Hugs for approaching due date. I found if was much worse a few days/weeks beforehand than the actual day. I had a hard time accepting that I didnt get the baby I wanted within the timeframe I wanted, but its a month after mine now and already I feel a bit more at peace with everything - almost as if the due date signalled the end of my grieving period. xxxx

Kat sorry about AF Sad Buggery pants.

right, I have swallowed my last bitter tasting contraceptive pill. Horray! tomorrow I am expecting a bit of a pant show seeing as my last period was 31 Dec 2009.Shock I am fully prepared to take one for the team and have enough AF so that none of you all have to! You all can have BFP's instead! Grin

Choccybick · 03/11/2010 21:01

Hi girls

Finally home and back "properly" online after a week in England and Ireland. Back to work and back to reality. Even AF arrived and didnt give me any chance to get fish slapped or POAS while I was away.
Time at home was okay, Grans funeral was a nice tribute to her, was lovely also to meet a good friends 4.w.o. baby. At least when AF arrived in Dublin I enjoyed the odd Guinness and glass of wine without having a bad conscience.

Sorry for me-me-me I will read through the last week and see what you´ve all been up to, Might pop back later after the apprentice.

just updating the AF stats so kat isnt alone down at the bottom
