Hi I'm new to the conception boards. Is anyone else planning to start ttc in November or december and wants to join me on a new thread?
DS has an appointment at GOSH on 25 November, we are waiting to get that out of the way before ttc number 2!

Hils the clearblue digital one is brilliant, dont bother with the boots/tesco ones as i couldnt read the two Boots ones i used, they were rubbish - good luck Grin

oo all this symptom spotting takes me back to when i was TTC - i was on a MN thread then too, how lovely!

BTW i will be 38 in January, we have decided that if i am not PG by the time i am 40 then we shall stop, i know two years is a long time but i know people who have tried for much longer. I also dont want to be cracking on 60 with a stroppy teenager!

tokyo i wonder if your DH is like mine in that he doesnt want me to get too excited and talking about things in case i/you get disappointed? i am sure he is excited too but blokes tend to keep it in - i am sure that is what it is

ArabellaRose · 14/10/2010 14:16

Don't forget to keep us updated Hils if you cave in and buy a preg test!! And lots of luck!

Hi all - a bit of a random question but I will start trying to conceive most likely in Jan, but would like to get a thermometer and start trying to track my ovulation etc. over the nect few months. I have really irregular periods so not even sure where to start. Can any of you recommend the best thermometer to get and also the best way of tracking it? Sorry if I sound a bit clueless! x

asouthwoldmummy · 15/10/2010 18:07

Sunshine- the first day of your period is Day 1 of your cycle(CD1). The last day of your cycle will be therefore be the day before your next period.

You need to record your temperature daily as it will rise slightly when you ovulate (which I think should be around day 16). You're fertile from a few days before until a couple of days after ovulation, but the best time for sex is before ovulation (which is why charting is important). I think that's correct!

There are ways to tell by looking at cervical mucus as well apparently. I didn't take ttc that seriously with DS but it took us 2 years, so I will be this time!

Hils, any luck?

Time is moving v e r y s l o w l y at the moment, for work based reasons as well as the December deadline! My new boss is so far being very considerate and has set up meetings to help improve my job description and develop my career. Hopefully I'll get the chance to enjoy all of that before I make any surprising announcements at work Smile.

What are you ladies up to this evening? I'm baking a spiced pound cake for my hockey team tomorrow and doing some stretching to try to sort my dodgy knee. DH left at 3am today for a 4-week stint overseas.

asouthwoldmummy · 15/10/2010 21:06

DH is at work and DS is in bed so relaxing with my knitting and MN! Good to have some peace!

So will you start ttc when your DH comes back ghosteditor?

100years · 15/10/2010 21:06

I'm feeling sorry for myself as I am supposed to be away with my OH but I am not well enough so I am home alone. :( Hoping to feel a little better tomorrow and if so will join him then, but if not I have a weekend all alone doing nothing feeling miserable and grotty.

Yep time is moving slowly for me too, but I keep reminding myself it might only be x days till AF gets here and then it's all systems go

100years · 15/10/2010 21:07

I want to knit, but I can't remember how to cast on and cast off so I am here twiddling my fingers Wink

ghosteditor · 15/10/2010 21:52

100years, poor you! Hope you feel better soon.

hey southwold. DH and I are waiting until Dec or Jan to start TTC, just because we said we'd wait until the end of the year (we got married earlier this year). I came off the pill in August so I'm taking folic acid and getting used to a pill-free life again for now. My skin is definitely suffering from the lack of the pill, boo. But coming off the pill has had some libido based benefits Wink.

what are you knitting?

asouthwoldmummy · 15/10/2010 22:02

Ghosteditor- congratulations on getting married! I'm knitting a jumper for my DS but I think it's going to be huge, he may have to have it next year!

I hope I get some libido-based benefits, DH will be pleased!

OP posts:
ghosteditor · 15/10/2010 22:22

thanks! we had so much fun at the wedding, was brilliant!

I learned to knit when I was little but have definitely forgotten everything I know. lots of my friends have recently taken up knitting though so am hoping they'll teach me when I have a bit more time.

my husband has been rather impressed with the new pill-free me! (I've pretty much been on the pill for our entire seven year relationship). It might not be the pill at all (could be the idea of TTC) but things have definitely been different for us. We're using condoms atm but quite looking forward to getting rid of them too!

Cake is complete! Have been foam-rollering my quads in preparation for the match tomorrow and cats are Hmm at the angst-ridden noises. Ouch!

asouthwoldmummy · 15/10/2010 22:30

My best friend is getting married in June and has asked me to be a bridesmaid. Providing ttc doesn't take too long I could potentially be 6 months pregnant, she'll love me when it comes to dress fittings!

Hi all! Me and DP officially started TTC this month but I don't fancy our chances of getting pregnant first time! But I secretly have my fingers crossed....:)

ghosteditor · 15/10/2010 22:45

hi fran! good luck with a first time conception! when will you know either way?

franjam · 15/10/2010 22:50

Well (not sure what the correct acronym is...) I am due on next Friday and I'm pretty regular so should know not long after that :)
I'm new to working out ovulation and all that but I used a couple of ovulation calculators and spotted when my CM changed (ew!) so we got on with it!

ghosteditor · 15/10/2010 22:58

Grin bin the acronyms, I don't like them Grin. good luck for next week!

I think mr-ghosteditor and I will struggle with conceiving because he's out of the country for the next four weeks and then from christmas eve Sad until Jan 14th. I'm also our of the country in January with work! First quick glance at the MN ovulation calendar indicates that his overseas tips overlap almost exactly with ovulation dates! Maybe he planned it...

franjam · 15/10/2010 23:04

Thanks ghost!

What a bugger about your dates :(

Still - it means you can enjoy a drink or 5 over Xmas and New Year and then start trying Wink

ghosteditor · 15/10/2010 23:09

yep, a bit gutting but it won't stop us trying Wink

I'm attempting to avoid too much conception planning when we are first trying. If it takes a bit longer then I might start paying more attention, but DH is in the military so doesn't have much choice about when he goes away. Thankfully his longest trip is 4 weeks, and he only does about three of those a year. Think it would drive me mad worrying about exact ovulation dates if he had to be away.

LittleOne76 · 15/10/2010 23:22

Hi everyone. I was just reading through some of the more recent posts thinking it's so nice there are these boards/threads where we can share our thoughts about this stuff. I find I have random TTC thoughts throughout the day. The majority of them make me smile and feel happy when I think about starting a family but every now and then I have a moment or two of panic/fear where the thought that I might never get pregnant but just don't know it yet enter my mind.

Do you guys experience this too?

Spiced pound cake sounds lovely...so autumny.

ghosteditor · 15/10/2010 23:30

The cake is a hummingbird bakery recipe, is yum! I try only to bake when I can share with my hockey team, otherwise I end up scoffing the whole giant cake by myself, which kind of cancels out all the running around.

I agree littleone, I'm not ready to share any of this with anyone other than DH at the moment - not family, and not my friends, most of whom think we're too young (I'm almost 27, as are most of my closest friends, but we're all at very different stages of life/career/relationships etc). Certainly not colleagues! So it's grand to let out a little of the obsession here with like-minded individuals.

asouthwoldmummy · 15/10/2010 23:39

Franjam - good luck!

Ghosteditor - DS bought me that book for Mothers Day. The banana loaf is a bit too nice!

Littleone - try not to worry too much, I'm sure you'll be fine! Just remember it's meant to be fun trying (for the first few months anyway)! It took us 2 years last time but I was very overweight and we were both stressed (we eventually conceived on holiday in the lake district). I just hope losing the extra weight is enough to help this time! If it takes 2 years my DS will be 5 :(

100years · 16/10/2010 11:01

Morning everyone.

No better in fact I'm actually a bit worse :( Can't speak without coughing and getting very out of breath :( Poop.

Re the libido effects of coming off the pill, I can't comment on that as I haven't taken the pill for many years, but mine is higher than my OH's LOL I don't know where they get the idea that it's the women that say no. Shock

I too am secretly hoping for a first time conception, but I don't really expect it to happen like that. I'm carrying too much weight and although I am fit and (usually) healthy I think they weight may play a part in it. Still I'm going to carry on doing what I am doing now forever including when pg, so if it takes time it takes time. I shall enjoy the shagging trying

asouthwoldmummy · 16/10/2010 12:06

100 years- I think we're all probably hoping for a first-time conception. If I get one I'll probably find out a couple of days before Christmas, would be a great present!

OP posts:
100years · 16/10/2010 12:15

The way my cycles are if I did get a first time then it would be around my birthday :S If it's a no then I am bound to be a bit upset, I just hope if I get AF I don't get it on my actual birthday. Hey ho, no point in worrying about these things now, we are still using those rubber things

ghosteditor · 16/10/2010 15:42

southwold, yes, all the recipes are dangerously tasty! A friend bought me the book last christmas, 4 months before my wedding Angry! Fortunately the dress still fit, but I've piled weight on since the wedding, the book must be at least partly to blame.

100, hope you've picked up a bit by now, but REST!
