Hi I'm new to the conception boards. Is anyone else planning to start ttc in November or december and wants to join me on a new thread?
DS has an appointment at GOSH on 25 November, we are waiting to get that out of the way before ttc number 2!

I'm going to ttc in December or January. It will be dc4. And then that is it. Dh wants to try for a girl to get two of each but I don't really care either way.

It's ridiculous - the other day I heard dh's cousin is having twins in April and I felt the most enormous surge of jealousy.

titferbrains · 04/10/2010 20:47

Winky, can I ask how many siblings you have?

I'm finding child-rearing quite trying but also very joyful at times. I am terrified by the prospect of doing it all again 3 more times but I would LOVE to have a big family. I love the thought of a massive family christmas.

WinkyWinkola · 04/10/2010 21:10

I'm one of 5. I'm the only girl too.

Dh has one sister. He gets terrified at the prospect of 4 kids too.

It is intimidating at times but I reckon it's just like having your first child - you need time to find your way and then it falls into place most of the time. I'm definitely stopping at 4 though as I suspect my pelvic floor will not take any more punishment! Grin

The prospect of big family gatherings thrill me too but I'm making no presumptions as to how my lot will get on as adults. Relations between me and brothers aren't the greatest.

But my rationale is that I would like my children to have each other to turn to when their parents are gone.

titferbrains · 04/10/2010 21:30

interesting, thanks for posting. I think I should have been born jewish, I just want lots of big family gatherings with a lot of hugging and an excuse to feed loads of people 3 times a day...

WinkyWinkola · 04/10/2010 21:34

Lol! Dh is Jewish and he's one who's flinching at the prospect of another!

Hi newbies, good to meet you! Maybe we can have a more exciting thread come Nov/Dec Grin

Just out of interest - which of you have arranged pre-conception appointments (if that is indeed what they are called) with your GPs?

I have held out thus far as my GP tends to be a bit dismissive with this kind of thing - not that I've had appts for this before! - and I'm already taking folic acid, so I'm not sure what he can add?

I've stopped taking my other vitamins as they include vitamin A and of the prescription meds I've been given (for asthma, migraines and sinus problems, plus contraception) I've only needed to take my inhaler of late.

The one baby book I've ever read did mention an early check up, but it mentions STD checks and the like. I've no reason to believe there's a problem, so should I just wait?

I am not neurotic, honest! Hmm

100years · 05/10/2010 20:03

I am seeing the Dr on Friday, more as a check as to what I can take when/if I get pg and while trying, I am on all sorts for migraines and am not sure if any of them are suitable, so I suppose that is a pre-conception appointment.

I too am on the folic acid and have been since Aug.

Actually, I was at the GP with my DD the other day and mentioned I was trying, and she said they are see more cases of rickets Shock and so she advised a pregnancy vitamin rather than just Folic Acid. I have had a few issues with very heavy periods so am planning to have a blood test to check everything, and then take advice accordingly about what vitamins I may need.

So prob best to mention to doc if you have any issues at all. I can arrange calls wiht my docs, you could always do it that way if you don't want to see doc face to face.

titferbrains · 06/10/2010 09:45

To clarify, GPs are seeing rickets in mothers AND children, hence advice to take a pregnancy vitamin.

I actually do have a 'weight problem' not that I am worried about myself as I am pretty fit, do at least 4 sessions of moderate to hard exercise a week of anything from a 30 min session (swimming) to 3 hours (biking) so I may not be in the right weight bracket, but I have lost some weight and I am exercising and probably fitter than I ever have been. I may have to do some convincing the Dr that this is the case though :( I hate first impressions. I used to have Binge eating disorder, and no longer have this, my eating and mental health is much better than ever. I think if I can show where I was and where I am then doc should be happy, and I plan to keep up the exercise and healthy eating right through pregnancy

asouthwoldmummy · 06/10/2010 20:08

Titferbrains and theseboots - I used to also suffer from very heavy periods and it took us 2 years to conceive DS. I have recently discussed ttc with my GP who has said don't leave it longer than a year to go back for tests.
I was also quite overweight and have lost 3.5 stone since ttc DS so not sure if that also could have had anything to do with it?! I've been on the pill since before losing weight so I don't even know if my periods are still heavy and erratic!

titferbrains · 06/10/2010 20:14

100years and SWmum, well done on fitness and weightloss! I get up every day with a million excuses for not exercising, fact is I'm pretty lazy and need someone standing over me to get me to exercise...

Not sure if weight impacts on heavy periods...?

Doctor has requested "full bloods" so presume they test for anything that might affect TTC, iron and vitamin levels etc.

SW mum when do you exercise? Never have got my head around doing it with a toddler. I have childcare once a week and am always loath to give any of those precious hours up to exercise

100years · 06/10/2010 20:15

asouthwoldmummy glad you have a GP who is helpful with regards to tests if TTC take a long time, I know some can be a bit of a nightmare, thankfully not most

100years · 06/10/2010 20:18

titferbrains once you start doing something you actually feel you want to do more, I feel more energetic now than I did before, yes this prob has something to do with the loss of weight, but it's a disproportionate amount ie I feel fitter than a loss of 2.5stone would have made me feel.

Both me 'n' him exercise and we have talked about what will happen, he is happy to 'let me out' to bike or whatever when I want to, and I will be the same about him going out.

titferbrains · 06/10/2010 20:44

I've always heard you should see yr doc after a year of TTC, and a previous GP told me it can take up to 11months to conceive, so not to expect a miracle after 1 or 2 months...

asouthwoldmummy · 06/10/2010 21:16

Titferbrains - I don't exercise!! I try to walk a lot though and would recommend weight watchers to anyone!

My previous GP was a useless tosser which is why we left it so long! I changed when DS was born so he could have a better one!

I reckon I will end up walking loads more when (look all positive it is gonna happen one day) baby eventually arrives, lots of walks out with the buggy :o

Feeling really tired today, have been awake off and on since 6am, OH got up at half past as he was wide awake, I'm never wide awake so I stayed in bed and snoozed for an hour till he came and woke me up proper. Only 3 hours till I can go back to bed :o Working tonight so have a pre nights snooze for a couple of hours. Shift work is crap in one way and good in the other, the excuse to have an afternoon nap is the best thing ever!

Sunshine28 · 09/10/2010 12:50

We will start trying to conceive #2 in January. Sadly we lost our first when I was 15 weeks pregnant (only last week) so we would like a bit of a gap to get fit, loose some weight (:)) and mentally prepare for it. I have always had extremely irregular periods, sometimes nothing for 6 months, though got pregnant the first time without really trying, so hopefully it will be the same second time round. Looking forward to hearing about all your progress over the coming months xx

asouthwoldmummy · 09/10/2010 13:15

Sunshine - nice to meet you, I'm really sorry for your loss.

Hi all, can I join? I have a 2 or 3 month window in which to conceive, starting in November! Will explain more when I have a mo... DS1 just woken up! This will be (hopefully) number 2. Can't wait, am so excited, but also nervous/ apprehensive/ etc!!

CheerfulYank · 10/10/2010 07:54

We will probably TTC in November or December, can I join? We have one DS (3 yrs) and I've been ready for another for...oh, about 2 and a half years now :)

We plan to adopt at some point and we actually started filling out the papers, went to an orientation, etc. But I feel like I want to have one more biological child and I'd like to do that while I'm still in my 20's. I'm a bit nervous because I was really depressed from the 6th month of my pregnancy til DS was about 2 months old. I'm just fine now and not taking meds or anything but I worry about it happening again. Do any of you have experience with PND?
