Having difficulties ttc#2?

Lychees · 13/09/2010 15:00

After chatting on another thread, I've discovered that quite a few of us are having trouble ttc#2.

It's difficult to find much support in RL; people tell you that you should be happy as you already have a DC [I really am!] and unless they've been there, they don't really understand why it's so upsetting not to be able to get pregnant again so I've created this thread so we can share and we have a place that we can rant/vent/moan/support each other......

Sorry for the unimaginitive title ... marketing is not my area of expertise Smile!

FYI, I'm 36, DH is 38, we have DS who is just over two and a half and we have been ttc#2 for 13 months.

We have had bloods and SA on the NHS and an internal scan and AMH privately and so far, our status is unexplained sub-fertility. If I don't get my BFP this time, next month we'll be having another SA and HSG privately.

Luce interesting about your periods - since I had DS mine have been strange too - just heavy day and then a couple of days of spotting, this month mine was heavy for about 18 hours and then 2 days of very very light spotting.

lychees how did your hsg go?

cerealqueen · 27/09/2010 23:04

Dear All
I have a BFP.... still can't believe it, especially after the negative last week.

We did make some changes about how we were TTC after I read some advice in a book. I'd seen on a number of forms book called Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler so I ordered it. It was a few weeks in before I realised I'd bought the wrong book, 'Take Charge of your Fertility' by Heather Welford. Well, I quite liked the book I'd bought and read it anyway. There was a personal experience on the book by somebody who had overheard a gynaecologist telling a patient the recipe for becoming pregnant:

Have sex after your period has ended, abstain until 14 days before your next period, then again 48 hours later. Apparently its to do with the mature sperm being more able to penetrate the egg because they are better at penetrating it.

Anyway, in the book, it refers to this 'recipe' being quite successful. I hadn't read it anywhere else so maybe its well known?

In addition I took 75g of asprin after we started trying this month because I'd read on other forums it helps the womb lining thicken which is good for the egg implanting.

I really really hope nobody minds me relating this as I don't know if either of these things made any difference, I just know that at 42, thinking it might never happen, I am pregnant.

Plus, to anybody still breastfeeding, I still am (once a day) and for a while I did think it was causing me problems (that and my age).

On fish slapping tales, last week (after negative) I spent the morning with heavily pregnant friends who were not only ranting about their parents (I've lost both mine) were also talking about having a third! I only had frozen fish fingers and a tin of cod roes in the house but in my head I'd liquidised them and put the concoction in their tea. Grin

Fingers crossed that its all OK.

Luce I'm thinking the same about implantation bleeding? Any other news?

Good luck everybody, I'll keep you posted.

X

Congrats to you.

Another day another person blocked on fb. She did have a tough time with DS but I don't need to know about baby on board badges on the train thank you very much. Rant over.

Whenisitmyturn · 28/09/2010 10:06

Congrats cereal Smile

Lou I'm with you! Good luck with your FC appt. Is this the first one?

Luce2006 · 28/09/2010 11:33

Hi there!!!! well, went to the Surgery to collect the referral for the Prolactine blood test and was told that I can't get it unless it's the Dr who request it...uhmmm was told a different story last week when I called to complain and was told theyr were going to tell the Dr I wanted the prolactine blood test and to go back early this week to collect the referral!!!Angry
Also asked when I was going to get the letter for DS second round of MMR and was told that they don't send letters and I had to book an appointment....well, It's not what I was told at the begining of the summer double Angry Gosh, this Surgery is really starting to get on my nerves!!! you speak to one person and he'll tell you one thing and when you go and talk to another one then you'll get told a different thing. I had to force myself to stay calm.....
Still no AF here...My temp has gone up ( but then I haven't really been temping this wek cause I was fed up with keeping charts noone bothers to have a look at)...
8RD and Cerealqueen I did think about implantation bleed but the timing is just not right. We only had sex once this cycle and it was on day 21 very late and the spotting started on day 24 in the afternoon so wouldn't it be too early????also never got a real positive on my OPK but I'm still getting a line on them Hmm Seeing the Gyneacologist tomorrow so I"m hoping he'll shed some light on what's going on
8Cerealqueen* MASSIVE CONGRATS on you BFP Grin

Lychees · 28/09/2010 12:01

Cereal, congrats on the BFP ... yay!!

lou, good luck for the FC appointment.

Rubberduckies, hope you feel better soon ... there's a lot of it going around now.

Babybarrister, good luck for second round of IVF.

Plumblusher, welcome. Any news yet?

Luce, your surgery sounds like a nightmare. Can you move?

Hi everyone else I haven't name-checked.

My HSG was fine yesterday; it wasn't too uncomfortable and I didn't get any cramps, just a bit of spotting and I got the all clear. DH has to go for a second SA tomorrow as morphology was not checked the first time around by the NHS. And then we will have had all the tests [which, so far, are indicating unexplained secondary sub-fertility].

I am hoping the HSG will make me a bit more fertile for the next few months so that we don't have to consider spending on IUI and Clomid which was the next step recommended by my consultant.

Hello, would you ladies mind if I joined you?

Bit of background for you- We are ttc no.2 for a long while now and have been to docs and got told to take folic acid and have intercourse. Seems to not be at all bothered because I already have a child.
We have already had fertility treatment to convieve ds so I know we have problems and the cheek she had. We havent told anyone we are trying again yet. Seeing my private doc tomorrow to see what she says (I was going about my lack of OV then somehow I OV'ed all by myself!)

I am on the 2ww- its hell. Too early to have symptoms yet.
Duff-I am so sorry to hear of your MC. Be kind to yourself.
Cereal-congrats on your bfp. I have also been known to check tests from the bin!
I hope you dont mind me posting :)

allthatjazz · 28/09/2010 12:42

sorry that should say *conceive not convieve we cant seem to do that either!

lucysnowe · 28/09/2010 13:32

Hi all

Can I join too? This is a really good idea for a thread, I really appreciate it, it's come at just the right time for me - went to music group with DD (2.6) on Monday and everyone was either pregnant or on their second and third. One pg mum asked me if DD was my first, a perfectly normal question but it almost made me cry.

Have been trying for a year or so, had a m/c in Jan and have PCOS, so it's not ideal. Am thinking of asking for Clomid next cycle if nothing transpires from this one.

allthatjazz, fingers crossed for the 2ww.

lucysnowe · 28/09/2010 13:34

Oh and reallygrumpy it looks like I am in the same position as you re metformin, it worked like magic the first time around but no joy this time, it's really got me down!

Lychees · 28/09/2010 15:00

Welcome to the fish-slapping madness, lucysnowe and allthatjazz!

allthatjazz · 28/09/2010 16:01

Thank you lychees :) im comforting myself with a slice of lardy cake. Hey lucynowe I know exactly what you mean. Nearly everyone at one of our groups is pregnant. On the upside I look tiny next to all those baby bumps, an excuse for more cake I reckon. leaves you with a large selection of cakes

8rubberduckies · 28/09/2010 17:54

MASSIVE Congratulations Cerealqueen, that's great news!

Luce maybe it's time to change GP surgery? I was really hacked off at mine after I gave birth to DS, and couldn't be happier with the one I'm with now. Good job, because I'm there so bloody much at the moment I should have my own chair Wink. Still feeling rough, but temperature has come down to a more normal level and can now swallow food Smile

Welcome new faces, looking forward to hearing your stories of fish-slapping and the ensuing BFP Smile. Lucysnowe I've been taking Metformin since April and nothing, am going to up my dosage as I have not been able to until now, because doing so gave me too much of a jippy tummy, but have been prescribed some slow-release tablets, so apparently it's easier then.

8rubberduckies · 28/09/2010 17:56

PS Lychees have been meaning to ask you what HSG is? I'm new to all this ttc jargon as am only just starting on the assisted conception route, and hope I have not asked too simple a question....

skinnymalinkylonglegs · 28/09/2010 20:05

massive congratulations cereal. I got a bfp last night too. Got another one this morning, so think it really is positive. I'm trying not to get too excited just yet after my mc a couple of months ago, but still so happy.

I know i haven't really posted much, but i just wanted to say how brilliant this thread has been - it's been great just to share a bit of what happened to me and know I wasn't the only one struggling.

I'm keeping my fingers-crossed that everything's going to be ok and good luck everyone - hopefully there'll be lots more bfps soon :)

Luce2006 · 28/09/2010 20:45

ohhh, lots of lovely new people Smile Hi all!!!!!!
skinnymalinkylonglegs congratulations on your positive!!!!!!!!!
Lychees and 8RD I"m very tempted to move tbh...but I've been told that the Dr I'm seeing on the 5th is really good so I"ll wait for that appointment and then I'll make up my mind

Still no AF here ( but then I had 1 cycle of 35 days in June so it could just mean that I'm for another long one ) cervix keeps changing position...arghhhhhh,very little CM but not dry as I usually get before AF Confused very confused!!! Appointment with the private Dr tomorrow evening and can't wait to see what he thinks!

pointsmakeprizes · 28/09/2010 21:49

Congrats to cereal and skinny.

Chin up girls, it will be all our turns eventually!

Let us know how you get on with your appt luce.

I have contacted counselling for infertility - not sure what to think they just said they would write to me with an appointment - i am grateful for it but would prefer an appt that would be convenient for me? Oh well will see how it goes and when I will get seen.

soupmaker · 29/09/2010 09:35

cereal and skinny congratulations. Fab news. Keeping everything crossed for us.

Hello everyone else. Keeping things crossed for more BFPs.

8rubberduckies · 29/09/2010 10:16

Congrats Skinny!! Smile Smile Smile

allthatjazz · 29/09/2010 11:07

hi ladies, congrats skinny
Just been to see my private doctor been seeing her for years, the only person who actually understands where I'm coming from and just 'gets me' as some cool trendy people would say. Dp could learn a lot from her.
Having really odd pains 3dpo- possibly just gas but hey.
Hope everyone else is ok.

Luce2006 · 29/09/2010 13:22

Good afternoon!!!!
allthatjazz so glad you have a Dr who CARES! it seems that there aren't loads of them around......

Remember I went yesterday am to collect the referral for the Prolactine blood test that was never done? Wel, just received some post and there it was a referral for blood testHmm only thing...she didn't specify which test I need to have done Confused she just put infertility investigation....Good thing my period hasn't arrived yet so I won't miss the next cycle and the chance to get the test done. I'll ask the Dr tonight what he thinks sthe Dr I saw last time should have put on the referral.....

Lychees · 29/09/2010 14:06

Congrats on the BFP Skinny!!

8RD, a HSG is a test where they put a dye through your uterus and Xray you to check that you have no blockages in your fallopian tubes.

Catch up with you soon [DS wants to play].
