Having difficulties ttc#2?

Lychees · 13/09/2010 15:00

After chatting on another thread, I've discovered that quite a few of us are having trouble ttc#2.

It's difficult to find much support in RL; people tell you that you should be happy as you already have a DC [I really am!] and unless they've been there, they don't really understand why it's so upsetting not to be able to get pregnant again so I've created this thread so we can share and we have a place that we can rant/vent/moan/support each other......

Sorry for the unimaginitive title ... marketing is not my area of expertise Smile!

FYI, I'm 36, DH is 38, we have DS who is just over two and a half and we have been ttc#2 for 13 months.

We have had bloods and SA on the NHS and an internal scan and AMH privately and so far, our status is unexplained sub-fertility. If I don't get my BFP this time, next month we'll be having another SA and HSG privately.

Another birth announcement - baby #2 when their baby #1 is barely a year old and I've got a big black cloud hanging over me again Sad. I hate texting and FB Angry.

Sorry for being Envy ... happy for them but Sad for me.

It never gets any easier hearing other pregnancies and births does it? I have a sense of dread everytime I hear the phone go, hear a text message come in or open up FB.

It will be you soon Lychees - fingers crossed tihs month. Forget to wish you a happy birthday the other day - hope you had a really nice day.

Panda I would def temp this month, last month if i had gone with ewcm alone i would have thought i ovulated on around day 14 but going by my temps i didn't ovulate until day 26 which was correct as AF came exactly 14 days after that. Not that any of it actually got me pregnant!

thumbdabwitch · 25/01/2011 17:15

Hello again - just been for my blood tests for ?ovulation. Not sure that my GP is fully on the ball about this, as she wants them done on day 10 and 14 Hmm but we'll go with that to start. She has referred me to a gynae but the earliest appt I can get is June!Shock I'll be months older by then and I haven't time to hang around.:(

Weird though - I've been using the Ovulation Method (mucus testing) and I have a feeling I am ovulating early. Even though I am on a short cycle (26 days), if my mucus is to be believed, I am ovulating on day 8 - which makes my post-ovulatory gap a bit long. It could be wrong but hey! it was worth starting the SWI yesterday just to be on the safe side.

Fingers crossed... one of my friends used it and it worked within 2 months, after a year of nothing (she's 40 and has just had her baby).

thumbdabwitch · 25/01/2011 17:20

Whoops - forgot to say Happy BIrthday to Lychees for the other day, and you're allowed to feel :( and Envy - it's natural.

Also hello to QueenOlive and Kimmie.

QueenOlive - I am always amazed that GPs seem to ignore the possibility of PCOS so often - I had a friend who was diagnosed with it in her late 20s, after years of problems, by a locum - her own GP had refused to consider it because "only women in their 40s got it"ShockHmm[idiot]

Another friend has just had a total hysterectomy after eventually being diagnosed with severe endometriosis - she has had 3 DC and problems for years - but was mostly dismissed as being a hypochondriac. The doctor who finally found and diagnosed it certainly didn't think so - he had her into hospital the following week and took it all away!

These things aren't that uncommon - why are some GPs so reluctant to consider them as a possibility? Hmm

PictureThis · 25/01/2011 23:26

Hi girls. Well this month is write off for us. Mum died on Sunday night SadSadSad so just not in the mood for anything. Just concentrating on getting through each day at a time but to be honest even that requires energy that I feel I don't have. I hope this is a good month for some of you.

thumbdabwitch · 26/01/2011 04:07

oh PictureThis - so :( for you! Were you expecting it or was it out of the blue? Very very sorry to hear it anyway.
unMNly (((hugs))) to you - it's so tough dealing with that loss.

PictureThis · 26/01/2011 08:43

It was anticipated but still very hard dealing with the aftermath. She was diagnosed with bowel primary with liver and lung secondaries 15months ago. We were told in November that treatment was no longer an option and up until boxing day she was to all intents and purposes well.
After that she deteriorated and was admitted to hospice two weeks ago. Even in there though she rallied to the point where going home was discussed. Sunday was the total turning point and she required lots of pain relief and sedation. She never woke up Sad

I just miss her.

Lychees · 26/01/2011 08:49

PictureThis, I'm so sorry about your loss, hun. I can only imagine how hard it is losing your Mum. Thinking of you .

Big hugs to PictureThis and belated happy birthday to Lychees.

Thumbdawitch your doctor sounds clueless but at least you are in the system. I was told with the gynae you could keep phoning for cancellations. Luckily we only saw the nurse and didn't make it to the consultant but was a good piece of advice.

thumbdabwitch · 26/01/2011 09:32

HalleLouja - I wish I had said to them "phone me if you get a cancellation" - I should ring back and say that.

Picturethis - it's very hard - I lost my mum when I was 19w pg with DS. She had bowel cancer with lung PEs and liver secondaries, and was terminal but we only found out 8d before she died. It was very tough - I do feel for you. :(

HalleLouja · 26/01/2011 09:39

Or just get the number for bookings and bombard them after you have had blood tests. They probably have lots of people after cancellations. Think people do get pregnant and no longer need their places.

thumbdabwitch · 26/01/2011 09:43

i have the number - I had to make the appt myself, but it goes straight to the gynae herself (am in Australia before you start wondering how you can get the same!)

HalleLouja · 26/01/2011 09:59

Argh that is a pain but good in many ways. In that case your plan of action is better.

pointsmakeprizes · 26/01/2011 20:13

picture i am so sorry to hear about your mum, sending you big hugs, i don't think you can fully prepare for this regardless of how much time you have.

Lychees · 27/01/2011 10:56

Just a quick update .... the IUI didn't work for us this time and I got a BFN today [my offical testing day] so it's on to another attempt next month. Still no AF though so I guess I'm not quite out yet Confused.

OP posts:
thumbdabwitch · 27/01/2011 14:04

Sorry to hear that, Lychees. :( Hope the next one goes better.
I have been given the name of a herbal person here, apparently 3 friends of the person who gave me her name have used this woman and got pg within 3m - so she's probably worth a go. I have her details, just have to make the appointment now...

pointsmakeprizes · 27/01/2011 20:17

lychees that is really bad luck, will they be able to get any feedback on why it didn't work?

Lychees · 31/01/2011 20:33

I've emailed my consultant to ask some Q's. Hoping to hear back from him soon.

AF is still not here even though I'm definitely not pg so can't start on cycle 2 of Clomid yet Sad.

How is everyone else doing?

OP posts:
QueenOlive · 31/01/2011 22:06

Very sorry PictureThis - puts everything into perspective. :(

Sorry that the IUI hasn't worked this time Lychees. Don't you just hate those few days between a negative test and arrival of AF. Feels like you're in limbo.

Thumbdawitch- Thanks for the examples of rubbish GPs. It is really mad that they just let you hang on for so long when its quite clear that there's something wrong.

I've just taken my 1st course of Clomid, following my op. Lots of side affects, but I'm totally confused about whether or not I should be hopeful, or whether I should be sceptical about our chances.

littleshamrock · 01/02/2011 09:37

I'm very sorry to hear about your mum picturethis, as queenolive says sad events like this really put things into perspective.

Lychees, how disappointing your IUI didn't take this time, hope the consultant has some feedback for the next cycle.

Lychees · 01/02/2011 17:54

Hi All, my consultant was happy that Clomid had the desired effect. In his opinion, we were just unlucky this time. Success rates are lower than with IVF so must bear this in mind next time. I'm not ready to go down the IVF route yet, emotionally or financially.

Where is everyone these days? Lots of us have gone AWOL ... I hope it's because they got their BFPs. We are certainly in need of some here.

How is everybody else doing?

daisy18 · 01/02/2011 18:57

Am still lurking..... Hoping to have a HSG next month. Saw consultant very quick on NHS, was only 2 weeks from referral to getting appointment - was very impressed. Consultant seemed positive despite DH low counts - he wants to check tubes as said sometimes c sections can cause scaring and adhesions. We'll see - getting more dissapointed as the months pass though..:(
Hope everyone is well, x

Choccie75 · 03/02/2011 14:04

Hi everyone, i decided to try and stop thinking about all this too much so haven't posted for a while!

Still no BFP but visited a FC this month and had all base line tests done. It all came back OK apart from AMH results which were lower than expected but still good if we need to go down the IVF route!

On day 3 i had 8 follicles on each ovary which i think is quite good, at day 16 i had one lead follicle at 14mm and i OV'd 4-5 days later which was a late OV for me Confused Anyway we bd at the right time i think so fingers crossed!

DH now needs to go an get checked, i've told him i'm not doing anything else until he does!

Picture - i'm so sorry for you that is so sad Sad

Lychees - next time will be your time!!

The consultant told me to wait another 6 months and then try ov meds but i don't know if i can wait that long!! Do you think my GP would prescribe if i took my results?
