Welcome to our new shiny thread for February. The lattes and expressos were not quite hitting the mark so we have moved to the pub. Whether you need Diet Coke or stiff drink help yourself we have a tab going and hunky staff are very attentive.

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 18/02/2022 06:44

ive been awake all night in a lot of pain but this is not unusual for me the night before my injection is due. thankfully i can get a nap later once ive been for the injection and i dont have anywhere to be today other than that so i can stay in bed the rest of the day

TheDoveFromAboveCooCoo · 18/02/2022 08:25

@wildthingsinthenight

Ah no what a pain *@HerRoyalHappiness* that is so annoying. Well done for getting out and shopping though. *@Akire* that seems so unfair that you are now stuck in. Assume its been reported. How long does it usually take to fix?

Our front fence is hanging by a thread this morning. Landlord will not be interested Hmm
Gp has referred me to Pain Clinc today. Felt very "don't tell me tell them" at the appt.
What happened at a PC? I feel she has missed a few steps out and I should be at rheumatology or neurology first? No experience of a pain clinic before.

I did get what I wanted HRT wise though. Sort of. I 100% knew more than her which is scary.

Re pain clinic - the evil GP who tried to take my codeine away said she would refer me to pain clinic. Then got a letter a few weeks later with my neurologist copied in saying that GPS are no longer allowed to do pain clinic referrals and asking him to do it? Not heard a thing since.

Slept better last night thank god. Woke at 5 and then managed to get back off until 7. Hopefully today will be a better day.

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 18/02/2022 08:52

im waiting on a pain clinic referral as well, i wasnt aware that gps cant do it now so i hope theyve asked one of my many consultants to get it sorted! still awake after being awake all night

HerRoyalHappiness · 18/02/2022 09:53

I've got pain clinic in April. Rheumy referred me to them.

TheDoveFromAboveCooCoo · 18/02/2022 10:02

I'm going to ring neurology after this meeting and ask if they have had the letter from my GP and put the referral through xx

How long were you waiting for the referral?
HerRoyalHappiness · 18/02/2022 11:18

Not long to be honest, referred in September, phone call off pain team in October, appointment was meant to be January but they changed it to April

Akire · 18/02/2022 12:33

How is everyone with the storm? Seen loads families going out for walks with babies and toddlers in red zone! Even 2y on a balance bike someone people have no idea. Had someone’s garden fence and lots recycling bags blown about.

I'm working in my garden office and at one point I was genuinely concerned it was going to rip the roof off. It's so noisy out here, and difficult to concentrate on work
Akire · 18/02/2022 14:26

In the shed wow takes some guts! My windows have been whistle so least finally find out where the gap in seal is!
Feel really drained now but was up at 6am

@MedusasBadHairDay wow! You're a brave woman. I wouldn't be in no garden office in this weather. Far too cold

Hello. Can I join?
Axial spondyloarthritis here.
I see a few of you have mentioned pain clinics.

I've been. This is where you get sent to when you have chronic conditions that have no good solutions.

I've been. They wrote to my Gp and said they recommend I only take codeine as this was the safest and most effective solution as long term NSAIDS were giving me high blood pressure and not effective. The Chronic pain consultant I saw said codeine is the one which messes you up the least. It has the least impact on your body and mind.
He also wrote to the GP to state that I was never to be given Pregablin or gabapentine (can't spell sorry) as they would affect my ability to work (due to my type of work). And referred me into the extended Physiotherapist at the hospital.

This means a consultant has decided and now this is on my records, no GP can change my medication for pain without another consultants opinion. This is good for me as I don't have to worry about changes.

It is a lot quicker to get into pain management than rheumatology. My referral was under 8 weeks. Rheumatology took 35 weeks.
This was 2 years ago but still much quicker.

I found the chronic pain team really nice approachable and sensible. Their advice was great and they were so helpful. Unlike rheumatology who are crap rude and unhelpful.

I'm sorry to hear some of you are having battles to get basic pain relief.

It's nice and toasty out here, got my heating on and as it's south facing the sun is warming it whenever there's a gap in the clouds 😁

Post storm drinks anyone? Could do with large rum and Coke but kidneys will not thank me for it!

Thanks for the pain cliinc info everyone.
I hope my GP CAN refer and she hasn't made a mistake. I wouldn't be surprised...
Good to hear I might not have to wait too long.

It is fairly wild here but we are only amber. I am currently on a bus which is being battered by wind and rain. Can't wait to get home!

Oh no did you go to work today? That’s really good about pain clinic @thesootherfairy and warm welcome to our little thread Grin

Hi and a very warm welcome!

Similar issues here plus EDS. My consultant decided that pain clinic wouldn't be of benefit to me as he already knew I couldn't take NSAIDS, Celebrex, Naproxen etc for various reasons. He will overturn any attempt by GP to interfere with my high strength Codeine script. Yes, it's not good for people to be on long term (for undiagnosed issues) But, it is an exceptionally good medication with the least side effects. He also agreed it was a good thing for my IBS so win, win. Codeine is viewed as the Devil itsself by most GPs. But if you have a condition that needs effective pain relief, and you have a consultant in your corner, you shouldn't have any worries. It's horrible to have to fight all the time.

Nerve pain is a bugger. But the way I see it, is similar to you. Gabapentin and Pregabalin have horrid side effects. If you are allowed highest dose Codeine, without being questioned all the time then it will likely do more than Gabapentin or Pregabalin can.

The amount of folk I know who are on either Preg or Gab, but are denied Codeine is amazing.

Obviously we are all different and have slightly different issues / combination of problems. But hope you can all see what I'm saying.
