Welcome to our new shiny thread for February. The lattes and expressos were not quite hitting the mark so we have moved to the pub. Whether you need Diet Coke or stiff drink help yourself we have a tab going and hunky staff are very attentive.

@Akire it's so difficult to lose weight.
When we're in so much pain and mentally struggling (often due to the pain) and food is a reliable source of comfort, it's difficult to change that
But I found trying to dostract myself really works I have a book called create this book and it gives you different things to do on each page, like "create a pet" so you can draw an animal you'd like as a pet, or design an entirely new animal for example. I love it.

Akire · 01/02/2022 15:40

Thanks yes it is often reasonable all day then come the evening it’s munch munch. Not like can burn it off on 10 km run either

HerRoyalHappiness · 01/02/2022 15:43

Yeah, evenings are worst for me. I dont watch much TV and its so easy to sit and munch when I am watching it.
So I do things with my hands to keep them busy so I'm not eating.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 01/02/2022 20:15

I know there is a school of thought regarding the body being reluctant to let go of resources (fat) when suffering from constant pain. I'm in a position whereby I've found myself very overweight, yet I don't really eat that much. It is further compounded by the fact that I'm lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant and have to follow a low histamine diet. So many 'good' foods are out of bounds. I can barely tolerate any fruits. I largely live on chicken and rice. NHS has an awful habit of blaming weight for exacerbating health issues, but also being pretty useless to help. This is especially true if you have complex issues with food intolerances.

They are also deeply steeped in stereotypes. My Dad is 74 and weighs a very healthy 11 stone. Is super fit and swims every day, is a fisherman, an allotmeneer, walks the dog for miles. Doesn't smoke, drinks very little. His family history predisposed him to heart issues. He was 54 when he had his first heart attack. He's had 8 stents fitted. The last ones were 3 years ago. His Cardiologist said "There's no more we can do for you" and I'm pretty sure there was an assumption that he was just another unhealthy Brit who brought his health issues on himself. My Mum also has heart issues and was seen by the same cardiologist. Was basically told to fuck off and it was her own fault she had heart problems as she had the occasional red wine. He's a horrible, horrible man and is extremely judgemental.

Not sure what the point of my post is, other than to say I wish we had more help with our overall health. We surely deserve that because our pain renders us less able to 'shift those pounds at the gym'

Akire · 01/02/2022 20:31

That would make a lot of sense. I think we all have met our far share of nasty medically staff I certainly have nightmares of a few.

I've started calorie counting and have lost 1 stone 1 pound since mid November. I'm pleasantly surprised at how unrestricted I feel. I like The fitness Chef for tips and recipes. Obvs can't do any exercise bar a short walk on good days
wildthingsinthenight · 01/02/2022 22:15

Had my friend over today and we went for coffee and a short shopping trip.
Managed to pick up my basket awkwardly and now my wrist is on strikeHmm
Feel exhausted after a day of actually doing things. What's the het I'm up half the night??
I seem to be really rubbish at keeping up with this thread

wildthingsinthenight · 01/02/2022 22:16

Akire · 01/02/2022 22:54

Well done on weight. I’m short so I have to be on 1150 calories a day to lose a pound a week. If I eat more than 1600 I put on. Just because your short doesn’t mean your stomach feels fuller for longer.

Hi all,

Having a restless nights sleep. Am suffering with burning pains tonight.

Also, I'm going to see the doctor today so I'm feeling a bit nervous about that now. I'm excited too, of course, because of the potential of getting answers at last, but I just feel a bit apprehensive of what he might say, if that makes sense?

Hope everyone is having a restful sleep ❤️

@RainbowZebraWarrior so sorry to hear about your parents. that's shocking.

I agree with you completely ❤️

Hope you managed some sleep. Good luck at the gp today. I keep putting off calling mine. It feels like a bit too much. I feel like I have so much to say I'll need a double appt. Procrastinating central here.

Also I've started to get into a panic when my alarm goes off and I realise how exhausted I am. As in "how will I get through the day?"
So start off the day in a tizzy.
Immediately putting an audiobook on when I get downstairs helps to distract me a bit Hmm

Akire · 02/02/2022 09:24

Hope the doctors goes well and you get some answers. I find it helpful write down main questions. So if they say yes it’s X ask about meds and treatment. If they say alas we don’t know ask what meds and treatments are next on the list. So easy to be fobbed off and leave confused and rushed without a plan to do what next.

I do am putting off doctor visit. These days job and half trying get the appointment in the first place.

Yes writing stuff down is a good idea. Annoyingly they will only do telephone appts initially then decide if you need a face to face ugh. So I have a phone appt on Monday. I asked for a double as I gave so much to discuss. I don't do very good on the phone though as I get too anxious and end up rushing off! Anyway I can forget it now til Monday I suppose.

That is so frustrating! Hope you get through soon xx

You do have go in as project manager and be quite proactive (she says I’m bad for myself) have key aim you want addressing. Writing also helps when in there as I’ve often gone and said let’s change this and give you that. Then later realised only given you 2 not 3 things or changed wrong medication. Mine was changed from 3000ml of one med to 3000ml of Gaviscon instead of 800 ml bottle. Chemist was most bemused

Hi all,

Thank you so much for the messages @Akire and @wildthingsinthenight. 😀

Didn't get to see the doctor today unfortunately. But am going to book an appointment asap. Great idea about writing things down. I'm going to definitely do this as I have a lot to cover.

Ive got a physio assessment booked tomorrow so I'm going to see how goes. I've already warned them that I'm a bit sensitive so they know beforehand.

Haven't had much sleep today so I'm going to have a good relax tonight. I normally would be at college this evening, so it will be a bit of a change ❤️

OnwardsEverStridingOnwards · 02/02/2022 18:33

@HerRoyalHappiness how's it going? Hope you're feeling a little better ❤️

HerRoyalHappiness · 02/02/2022 18:35

I'm ok thank you. Finally got through to the GP after 47 attempts for DS1s respiratory review. So that will be on the 28th.
Luckily they've still prescribed his inhalers for now so he can take them on his trip to Wales

@HerRoyalHappiness you're very welcome. Glad to hear you got though to the doctors 👍🏻 I know it's a minefield trying to get in touch with them.

Glad to hear your DS got his inhalers too ❤️

Could feel my ankle going so I've strapped it up and hoping for the best. Yes I'm wearing Christmas socks. I'm autistic and they're my favourite socks Grin
