Does anyone else have a wrapping paper "theme" for each person and then change their mind and re-wrap everything?

i have a differant paper for each dc, Santy wraps in his own paper obviously, boxing day presents are differantly wrapped, dp's family people i'm not overly pushed about get lidl paper, other peoples kids get disney paper and dp and i have seperate paper.

[hides in shame]

globaljen · 17/12/2009 13:27

We have a theme - a 'whatever is left over from last year' theme! And each person gets wrapped in whatever is closest to hand at the time. Amazon boxes count as wrapping so they are left 'au naturel'. We used to wrap our stocking pressies in newspaper but now we have kids their hands get filthy, so we use the magazine supplements to wrap stocking stuff.

My only 'theme' is that I have a TOP SECRET roll of paper that is used for 'Secret Santa' presents, my kids are too sharp for me to get away with using our 'own' paper!

Sainsbury's has a 1/2 price wrapping sale on today (plus cards, lights, ornaments etc). Got some lovely metallic purple paper that will be great for the 'girlie' birthdays throughout the year - should have bought more come to think of it!

no

dh and I squabble over who does the wrapping then end up wrapping really badly and running out of paper and using plastic bags and newspaper

wrapping presents is a pita

in fact, shops that wrap for you go up 1000x in my estimation at this time of year

bebejones · 17/12/2009 13:54

I sort of have 'themes', DH tells me off for spending more on paper & ribbon than on gifts.

Children get the cheapy bright coloured paper as they just want to get into the gift as quickly as possible!

This year presents are wrapped in a selection of red & gold papers. With gold wired ribbon & red paper ribbon & either a gold or red tag. The main wrapping paper this year is this one. I take massive pride in my 'work' and each present takes ages to wrap! I am very precise anal about it all! I know I am very very sad!

theyoungvisiter · 17/12/2009 13:57

hang on hang on hang on.

You WRAP stocking stuff? Surely the stocking itself is the wrapping?

[more evidence of barkingness among mners]

christmaseve · 17/12/2009 13:57

I would prefer to receive a badly wrapped fabulous gift that a specially wrapped dud.

No don't have themes just normal wrapping paper and everyone's presents are wrapped the same.

cantmummyhaveabreak · 17/12/2009 14:00

DC's all have different wrapping paper so their piles of presents all match, and it's easier to tell who's is who's...

Then stocking presents are in a different wrapping paper but with tags on.

And joint presents and presents off santa again in different wrapping paper so i can tell what is what (saves writing a million tags out!!)...

THEN, all the presents for family & friends is in a different wrapping paper and gift tagged and have sticky bows etc on and are placed under the tree. Wrapping paper has to match decs on the tree to go underneath.

Though i'm not that anal about presents given to us matching... just that the ones i do match.

Also DH is strictly banned from wrapping as he is bloody awful at it- so anything he gets me HAS to be in a gift bag as he knows it upsets me to get very messy presents that he's taken 2secs to wrap when i spend so long making sure his is perfect!!

I thought I'd try and make an effort this year and do something craftsy, so I bought some brown paper from the Post Office, the plan being to decorate it with delightful red, potato-printed hearts.

Needless to say, it looks fucking terrible.

SantaClausIsComingToGlasvegas · 17/12/2009 14:23

my theme is 'wrapping paper that I bought in the sales last January and squirrelled away until now' It matches my Christmas card theme. (although does not match my Christmas cards). I do wrap neatly though - a Saturday job in Boots many years ago taught me the invaluable wrapping rule - don't use too much paper.

tanmu82 · 17/12/2009 14:29

i do like the gifts under the tree to coordinate - don't like pressies wrapped in cheap paper at the front! This year I decided to use brown packing paper with turquoise or gold ribbon and bows. Got the ribbon and bows from the 99p shop and packing paper is left over from some crafts I did earlier in the year. It looks fab and v chic. Also has cost next to nothing

Ooh i do this.....my theme this year is christmas of yesteryear....i have wrapped all presents for under the tree in brown parcel paper from the post office then wrapped gold ribbon with big flourishing bow...

then added wired holly or mistletoe to the centre....

i have used brown luggage labels as my gift tags and written in flouncy handwriting.....

they look absolutely feckin amazing and are bringing me RIDICULOUS amounts of pleasure when i gaze at them....

rather alarmingly i nearly skinned one of my (much loved) cats when they knocked the pile slightly askew...

Scout19075 · 17/12/2009 15:20

Define theme.

I wrap groups together -- all of the nieces/nephews in one paper, siblings (of mine & DH) in another, parents in another....

Oh geez, I sound OCD! LOL

bebejones · 17/12/2009 15:34

lol at potato! I used a rubber stamp one year to print snowflakes on brown paper, took ages but did look fab! Wrapped them up with wired ribbon & tassles.

Boodleboot, I too love a nicely wrapped gift & my cats get yelled at for even sniffing the presents under the tree!

SantaClausImWorthIt · 17/12/2009 16:32

Boxing Day presents?!

MaMight · 17/12/2009 17:05

Decant washing up liquid???

MamaGoblinUpTheGingerbread · 17/12/2009 17:06

I used to be madder than a box of frogs, etc, about wrapping - would spend a silly amount of my christmas budget on matchy matchy paper and ribbons and bows - maybe three different papers that went. Often bought long lengths of fabric ribbon for tying up (at least you can reuse the stuff!). Needless to say, this was well before the advent of DS...

Last couple of years, I've bought cheap and cheerful, recycled paper from Oxfam/nicer stuff from Waitrose in the post-christmas sales, and I couldn't care less if it doesn't match. Ribbons? What ribbons? Just makes it more of a DS-magnet to pull apart.

My PIL, on the other hand, buy a different horrible paper for each person and thus save on gift tags!

Willy, sorry, but I don't like your Ikea paper. It's too 80's for my taste! do you also have a black-- christmas tree?

MamaGoblinUpTheGingerbread · 17/12/2009 17:10

Arse.

that's black christmas tree

Clary · 17/12/2009 17:17

bebejones @ paper costing £4 for 3m.

Did you see how much my Aldi stuff was? Didya?

(and it's really nice quality, honestly!)

YY santa sack presents are wrapped. Mine always were as a child

Bucharest · 17/12/2009 17:34

I even looked at White Company paper which costs about £4 a sheet.

Then I did slap myself around a bit.

Earthstar · 17/12/2009 17:56

I use real ribbons - that's my luxury and I like that they can be re-used.
If it is a small present I often use pages from a magazine or flier to wrap with, I think it's kind of cool.

Apart from that young kids get fun paper and the adults get more sophisticated wrap.

The presents live below the tree but I like a mixture of papers because I think the same one looks a bit dull. I do wish that I had forethought such that I used colour coding as follows:
presents to take to my mums house
presents to take to dps mums house
other presents

as we are likely to leave something behind at some point!

BlingLoving · 17/12/2009 18:01

Oh, I always have a theme - but not per person. It's my overall Christmas wrapping theme. Tends not to be expensive - one year I made it African themed with brown paper and brasswire and bits of coloured glass. Another year I did red tissue paper with some of those glass flat marble things that you put in vases and some glitter. I spend a lot of time planning my themes and it makes me weirdly happy. This year I'll be using brown paper, raffia and silver spray paint to paint stars.
