Does anyone else have a wrapping paper "theme" for each person and then change their mind and re-wrap everything?

Ha ha MP, I knew this had to be you! I have bought lots of ribbon to try to keep up with you, but I won't be re-wrapping them, once is Enough!

Oops! Bloomin' phone

I have an overall wrapping colour scheme. This year it is yellow, green and blue paper (a three-pack from Ikea) and Y/G/B ribbons but always contrasting. DP who will be DH in three days was or was is or maybe just when I asked him earlier this evening to use the same scheme to wrap his present to me as otherwise it will be obvious to the rest of the family that I bought all the presents and he just got me mine.

We unwrap one or two main presents between church and lunch which are labelled (oh I forgot the labels, they're red and from Paperchase) to [you] from [me]. Then in the evening with Christmas cake we have 'tree presents' which just have a name written on the wrapping paper and they're supposed to be from FC.

I am also wrapping presents for our parents and bridesmaids/Best Man for Saturday and the colour scheme is beige paper (Ikea again) and red wired wide ribbon. Except that I totally misjudged how far a 2m roll of posh ribbon goes and spent an hour going to three branches of Clintons in central London today trying to find more of the same. Gave up and got some totally different wide red ribbon from Paperchase. I will have to not look at the gifts when I hand them over or I will come over all funny.

I am, for example, nuts.

I am at this thread! I buy nice wrapping paper, just so happens to be gold and silver this year, but if I run out then I will just buy some more and not worry about whether it matches.

I don't do ribbon, bows, cinnamon or any of the rest of it.

I do however have a big bag that all my giftwrap, cards, tags, sellotape etc live in - it makes me happy to look at it.

plumpud · 16/12/2009 22:47

I theme and ribbon and add extras .. I love wrapping. I even sometimes put awkward shaped things in boxes ( that I make omg ).. and have matching themed shred and sparkles!

I have been known to re-wrap if it doesn't look perfect.. but I never change theme

Not for individual people. But I do like the presents to match the tree.

The tree theme is white and silver so all the paper must be the same colours with co-ordinating ribbons and bows. Presents look lovely under the tree and often get comments on how nice the gifts look.

If someone gives us a gift wrapped in paper that doesnt fit in with the scheme it tends to get put behind the other nice ones to keep the overal picture looking nice..

pigleychez · 16/12/2009 23:10

I also have this to keep my wrapping paper in.

Is that too organised for MN??

this year i have gone simple with the wrapping- i have red, gold, silver, pink and purple plain foil paper! no ribbons, bows, cinnamon or any other weird stuff. plain sticky labels in red, gold and silver. nice and easy, and i dont re-wrap any from other people

mumeeee · 17/12/2009 11:02

No. Just wrap in whatever wrapping paper we have, To much hassle to buy and wrap differntly for different people.

Lexilicious · 17/12/2009 11:14

hanaflower you kept to a theme when you had a 4 week old??? and did an oldies option??? Or did you buy and wrap it all while waiting for the baby to decide it was time to pop? (forgiveable)

FolornHope · 17/12/2009 11:15

i must admit ( guiltlily) when someone goes overthe top with wrapping i coo and say " wow how nice" but privately think
kind of

sheesh

Notquitegrownup · 17/12/2009 11:18

SantaClausImWorthIt - I haven't read every post, so apologies if you have said, but where did you get your recyclable paper from, please, online. I hadn't realised that ordinary paper isn't recyclable

SantaClausImWorthIt · 17/12/2009 11:25

From Oxfam - link is further up the thread!

MummyTumble · 17/12/2009 11:26

I wrap to a theme for each person. That way I don't need labels and only I know which present is for which person and stops them snooping, and shaking the pressies, guessing and spoiling surprises . DD thinks the presents are for other children as they don't have a label with her name on...stops the nagging too!

BaronessBarbaraKingstanding · 17/12/2009 11:26

past years i'v had themes/colour schemes for wrapping, this year I have so much paper left over from previosu years I'm just using it up.

theme for this year is mish mash.

"I used to co-ordinate gift wrap with the decor of the room in which the gift would be opened.

Then I Got A Life"

Or a job

slinks back of to her marking trying not to panic that NOTHING is wrapped and that the amazon orders went through last night and the DC have no presents yet!

Must get those blardy exams marked though

Bucharest · 17/12/2009 11:37

Oh, MP, thank goodness I'm not alone.

I decide on an annual theme, sometimes it's brown paper and string and star anise and cinnamon sticks, this year it's red and white and Gisela Graham decorations fastened on.

I frequently re-wrap, even for dd, who lets face it will not notice.

I love the wrapping as much as the opening.

Come Saturday afternoon (all my gear has been online shopped and is waiting for me in Blighty) I shall be listening to Radio 2 and having a lovely time with the sellotape and snowflake lace things.
