Does anyone else have a wrapping paper "theme" for each person and then change their mind and re-wrap everything?

Or is it Just Me?

Yes and no.

I assign a wrapping paper to each individual, but I don't change my mind and then re-rap.

I love wrapping. Many, many, many people tell me they've never seen such beautiful parcels.

hollyroger · 16/12/2009 21:01

fraeks

MrsRigby · 16/12/2009 21:01

Oh and I've already told DH which paper to use when wrapping my presents.

hollyroger · 16/12/2009 21:04

I bought that ikea set last year willie - was nicer colours (for my taste though) as it was same designs but red, white spots/hearts, and orange and red stripes, and green and white stripes. Looked very bunting cupcake actually. And best of all I could use it for ds and dh birthday pressies as it wasn't in-yer-face festive

Wheelybug · 16/12/2009 21:05

Different paper for different people yes - as in:

DH's family
My family
DH
DD1
DD2 (well this is her first christmas, this is the plan)
stocking diff paper (obv)
other children

WeThreeNinks · 16/12/2009 21:06

I have been known to re-wrap all of one DC's presents because they didn't after all "go" with the others under the tree

PoppityMerryGentlemen · 16/12/2009 21:06

My wrapping always starts off at the end of November with good intentions, themed, beribboned, tagged and neat.

I plan on wrapping a couple up every so often to keep on top of it.

This lasts until about 8 presents in and then the remainder are left until Chritmas Eve to be wrapped hastily into crumpled, over-cellotaped nightmares with the recipient written on in felt pen if you're lucky.

I can never keep the momentum going

It makes for an odd selection when I am giving them out. I always blame the DCs for 'helping' me with the later ones[shame]. That way I get to make out I am both arty (nicely wrapped few) and good at involving my children (snort)

bonkerz · 16/12/2009 21:08

i have 3 types of wrapping paper for the kids and have wrapped accordingly which means i have not needed labels for childrens pressies and this worked really well last year as far as they are concerned the pressies under the tree are for other children and santa will collect christmas eve and leave their pressies. I have different paper and labels for everyone else and use bags as much as possible for adult gifts!

titferbrains · 16/12/2009 21:08

I wrap in newspaper and decorate in ribbon. Occasionally I look for a comedy headline to match the gift. My family think I'm nuts but now wrap my gifts in newspaper so that's helping the planet just a weeny bit. I do get a bit funny about selecting the right bits of the FT to use as wrapping paper - they do amazing adverts with great colours, my DH scratches his head wonderingly when I screech at him not to throw that bit of paper away

nappyzonecantrunfortoffee · 16/12/2009 21:09

god no - my wrapping is crapper than crap too - today i put my works secrt santa present on display with the others and everyone was peeing thereselves laughing as not only did it look like a penis (its was a bottle on top of a tin of biccys) it had so much cellotape round it and general scruffiness one of my kids may as well have wrapped it which i will claim actually happened if it gets out it was from me. I used abot 4 metres of paper for it as well just to get it covered - no wonder my house is a bomb site after unwrapping!

Georgimama · 16/12/2009 21:11

My SIL is a wrapping nut. A couple of years ago she sat me and my mum down for a wrapping master class. She had boxes with callophane, sprinkles, stickers, gift bags, labels, the lot. It took half and hour to wrap one measly present. No ta.

WillieWalsh · 16/12/2009 21:21

HAHA! everyone has the ikea wrap
it looks kind of scandawegian folksy in a nice way imo

CybilServant · 16/12/2009 21:23

I used to be anal about wrapping (but ony my own pressies, no one elses) Now I have turned into the grinch, I just don;t care

CremeDeMenthe · 16/12/2009 21:25

hollyroger i had the green/orange ikea wrap last year - with the heart shaped labels .

wasabipeanut · 16/12/2009 21:26

I think the OP may be a little mad, in the nicest possible way. We are "theming" this year with brown paper for everyone perhaps tarted up with remenants of whatever pretty paper is kicking around.

I reuse any nice ribbon and buy coloured luggage labels and use ink stamps and gold/silver pens, cinnamon etc. Also collect gift bags and reuse.

We did the same last year and it was brilliantly cheap and drew a lot of comments!

I have to say that I don't consider myself a proper lentil weaver but something about masses of shiny wrapping paper going into landfill makes me feel a bit queasy.

WillieWalsh · 16/12/2009 21:26

i dont care
but this coordiantion thing is SO easy adn makes it look great

the black with white hearts on with red ribbon looks very N European

Tizzyjacko · 16/12/2009 21:28

madder than a bucket of snakes.....

midnightexpress · 16/12/2009 21:32

I like a bit of co-ordination but do not re-wrap.

Except this year, when ds2 (nearly 3) found a pile of presents intended for his cousins and opened them all.

catastrojb · 16/12/2009 21:34

eh? i'm not allowed to wrap anyway, dh does it beautifully and then the cats chew the ribbons off once they go under the tree.... no themes though, that's a bit odd.

morningpaper · 16/12/2009 21:37

I DO feel guilty about the landfill contribution

I very much like the newspaper idea but it doesn't sound ENORMOUSLY festive

OP posts:
SantaClausImWorthIt · 16/12/2009 21:39

This is what I have used - very festive and very eco friendly

titferbrains · 16/12/2009 22:01

morningpaper it does look festive if you use good ribbon and I usually start by only using magazine pages, and then use newspapers for larger items. I do shiny ribbon with curls and a bow.

crankytwanky · 16/12/2009 22:11

Yes!

All the paper has to match, and be "right" for that person & gift.
eg Grandparents get wrapping paper from Past Times, or something trad.
DH will get blokey & funky.
Young people will get scandi chic.
Children get, y'know, child-like. Cartoony.
Presents from santa get a paper of their own.

It must all match my "theme" too.

I must say Ilike the newspaper idea, although I would use a hebrew newspaper. (I am making paper chains with it, coz after careful consideration, I have deemed hebrew the most christmassy text.)

MadBadandCoveredinTinsel · 16/12/2009 22:11

I do a theme up to a point (ie Santa does not use the same paper as me, oh no) but re-wrapping because of a change of theme is a bit desperate/lead me to the van, I fear.

vachebleu · 16/12/2009 22:25

Ha ha MP, I knew this had to be you! I have bought lots of ribbon to try to keep up with you, but I won't be re-wrapping them, once is Enough!
