Does anyone else have a wrapping paper "theme" for each person and then change their mind and re-wrap everything?

Or is it Just Me?

you are definitely mad as a box of mad frogs.

I have only gone back to using wrapping paper this year because DS is now 2 and will wnjoy unwrapping things so much - for the last few years things have been "economy wrapped" - in re-usable bags or not at all.
My only criteria were "child-oriented" and "cheap".

I like to have an overall theme as well as using an appropriate pattern of paper for each person but I also feel compelled to reuse any remaining paper from previous years so this year I had so many different types it's a bit of a mess! Also have to have matching tags and DH has to write the tags for his family so that his Mum doesn't get a present where I've written 'Mum' on it.

uberalice · 17/12/2009 12:18

Nope. In fact, I've been known to wrap birthday presents in Christmas paper if that's all I've got to hand. I don't give a shit, me.

Flame · 17/12/2009 12:19

nutter.

i do tend to have paper per child, but that is as far as i go.

IT'S JUST YOU!!!

Talk about making life harder for yourself

Having said that, I admit I do have two themes: brown paper and red string for adults (very traditional) and something bright and shiny for small children.

But THAT'S IT.

Clary · 17/12/2009 12:27

some of you people are totally mad

I mean, I quite like wrapping presents nicely, but a theme??? Rewrapping??????

And why does everyone keep mentioning cinammon? How are you all using this?

I have bought totally bargainous paper from Aldi, £1.29 for a 13m roll, have wrapped more than half of the pressies and there's still lots left.

Santa uses different paper though.

There's not a lot of point in a big fancy wrap here as Santa brings all the gifts under the tree as well (tho the DC will recognise the paper lol) so they are only there for a few hours!

Cinnamon and star anise......
Instead of bows? Slipped stylishly into the ribbony bits.
Had one year when house was full of bits of straw as well, as I intertwined that with the cinnamon (and star anise)
(Nigella then copied me in her Christmas book)

olivo · 17/12/2009 12:40

I'm a bit confused - what is the point in having a theme if your presents are going to sit under someone else's tree once you have given them to them? how do you know your theme will match their tree? Or why do you keep their presents under your tree?

I genuinely didnt realise people put so much thought into wrapping gifts - i shall be more appreciative in the future!

Tell it like it is, kerry!

yomellamoHelly · 17/12/2009 12:43

Don't have a theme but use a roll of paper per person to save on having to do labels as I go. Can then label (much) later. Hate wrapping so find it easier to get it over as quickly as possible.

Bucharest · 17/12/2009 12:43

I must admit, I don't sit presents under the tree.
They go to Santa and then arrive in a sack.
So,I go to all that trouble with me cinnamon sticks, and they aren't even on display anywhere.

drinkystinkyuletidegubbins · 17/12/2009 12:44

OP -you should change your name to wrappingpaper

No - no theme. Start off with nice wrapping paper, then run out, run to corner shop and end up with assorted parcels wrapped in clashing designs of inebriated penguins and asthmatic santas in amongst the beautifully wrapped gifts...

Antdamm · 17/12/2009 12:46

I buy a massive pack of assorted cheap paper at the start of each year and use that. You get a mixture that way.

I use a 'nice' paper for DS as we pretend that Santa has brought them. That's as far as we go. I would love to be organised and do themes for each family or something, but I am terrible at organising.

I used to do all the wrapping, but DP does most as he is better at it. I just buy all the pressies and hand them over

Job done.

estar · 17/12/2009 12:49

I do like the look of all the pressies once they've been wrapped, so I tend to go with something like blue and silver stuff one year, and red and gold the next - all cheapy stuff, some kiddy-fied, others more posh looking.

BUT if you go with themes and paper for each individual, how the heck do you do that without masses of waste? Do you measure the presents before you buy the paper? Only get certain sized presents? Or do you have a secret storage area with masses and masses of leftover paper??

Bucharest · 17/12/2009 12:52

I have a hoooooge Christmas box in the bottom of the wardrobe with all my spare bits and pieces and decorative items.

GooberChev · 17/12/2009 12:56

Boxofrogs you.

andirobobo · 17/12/2009 13:10

I too use themed paper - not quite in the same vein as MP though.

Santa has his own children style paper.

I used one set of paper for my Brother and his family as they are not seeing us this christmas - so their presents have been sent down to them - they will not know that their paper is different to the rest!

I used one for my family and for my DH's family. This year I have black paper with silver and turqouise snowflakes on - quite tasteful! Silver tags and silver ribbon conplete the look.

I then wrapped one childs pressie in a box we received a present in a few years ago, and my SIL and Aunty had theirs in bags from last year - so recycled as well!

I tidied up some cupboards in my FIL's house (as he asked us to while him and his ladyfriend are swanning off around the world for 6 months) and 'found' some bags and ribbon, so I relocated them to my house!! THat is kind of recycling isnt it??!!

AMumInScotland · 17/12/2009 13:16

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

and breathe....

This thread is a joke, right?

My "theme" is "Christmassy". Whatever paper is on top of the wardrobe, plus whatever I then buy at the last minute when I realise there isn't enough. Ditto tags. Ditto ribbons and bows.

It all looks very festive....

Guad · 17/12/2009 13:18

I have a theme for each person but have never changed my mind and re-wrapped, mainly due to wrapping at the last minute.

I do decant my washing up liquid though. I can't be bothered to lug the massive 5 litre bottles dh buys up to the sink each time. It dribbles and makes a mess.

Guad · 17/12/2009 13:19

lol at my theme is christmassy
