****NormaStanleyFletcher would like to say sorry as the Christmas Appeal Matching is slightly delayed****

Sorry folks

Some idiot company decided to give me a full time job earlier than expected, and I have a MASSIVE document to finish; they are paying me a load of money (well more than I have ever earned before) so I feel duty bound as the eager newbie to get it done in my free time...

I have no internet access during the day apart from BBC, tfl and a couple of others.

I have also been ill, not with a hangover from the Christmas Party, but with earache, and have had v little sleep, so had to have the day off work yesterday (so much for the eager newbie)

Anyhoo - this means that the matching will be delayed by a couple of days. Sorry

If you have a particular need to be matched early, drop me a mail ([email protected]) and I will shove you to the top of the list.

Thanks for listening.

Please bump this

Ta

I've still not heard about who I'm sending to.

I've just checked and I am all set up to receive CATS (even though I don't really know what they are!)

MuffinToptheMule · 09/12/2009 20:47

I've not heard either.

magicofchristmas · 09/12/2009 20:57

I think Norma said something last night about waiting for childrens ages and addresses before she could do some of the matches.

I for one require those kind of details for my matches as I have bought a load of stuff already.

I'm sure we will hear soon enough.

MerlinsBeard · 09/12/2009 21:15

Whilst I do think it lovely for ppl to recieve between Xmas and new year, the spirit of the MN Xmas appeal is that peoples children recieve when they may not get much. I remember one particular Mnetters tree ONLY had gifts from MN.

I realise that may make me incredibly unpopular but I thought that was kind of the foundation if the appeal (and yes I was here for the first one after the farepak fiasco)

magicofchristmas · 09/12/2009 21:23

I agree MOM, but, if you don't know where to send the stuff or what the family is like then the task is very difficult.

Norma has been ill and also busy with work.

Now she can get this all sorted she has the added pain of not being able to contact nominees.

alwayslookingforanswers · 09/12/2009 21:27

Last year quite a few people recieved things after Christmas and they were just as much appreciated/enjoyed as the ones that arrived in time for it.

When I was a kid we often used to get presents after Christmas (yes even ones from "santa" used to turn up later sometimes) - my mum just made up some daft excuse about the sleight having broken down, or bad weather or something meaning he was delayed.

I'm sure if ones come later then those that recieve them will come up with a good enough excuse, and if they are in a position where there will be no presents under the tree at all on Christmas day I bet they've already got answer prepared for the day (if they haven't already prepared their DC) - and so "late" arrivals from Santa MNers will - I'm sure be explained in a satisfactory manner.

MerlinsBeard · 09/12/2009 21:30

I can imagine MOC. I wasn't having a dig at Norma, although I agree it does sound like it (I am sorry it appears that way Norma)

NormaStanleyFletcher · 09/12/2009 22:45

Well I have now found that I don't seem to be able to connect to wifi hotspots during the day

SO that was good

May have to take the day off on Friday

Norma,

Is there anything we can do to help? While I agree it is a Christmas appeal I agree with FAB. These people are not expecting anything and if it comes a little bit after Christmas then it might be an added bonus.

OrmIrian · 10/12/2009 08:03

fletch! Don't worry if it is delayed. Much nicer after christmas when everything is flat.

FabIsVeryFestive · 10/12/2009 08:25

Norma - please don't take a day off work to do this. I am free from about 9.50 this morning so more than happy to help in any way I can.

If everyone can just accept this is going to be done differently from other years then there will be no stress. It really doesn't matter if the gifts come after Christmas. No one knows who is getting anything so tbh if a Mumsnetter's child has nothing that isn't anyones fault. I know that will be taken the wrong way but I hate the thought of Norma getting stressed and having to take days away from a new job because she feels pressure to get things done now. What I mean is if someone can't get their child much they can't get much, the thought of them getting something from Mn isn't going to make them have less money iyswim.

Thank you for doing this Norma.

MarioandLuigi · 10/12/2009 08:33

I totally agree with you Fab.

EccentricaGallumbits · 10/12/2009 08:47

me too.

as and when and post chhristmas treats would be brilliant.

arisHOHOHOcat · 10/12/2009 10:30

i agree with Fab too.

Thank You!

DisElfchanted3 · 10/12/2009 10:34

Norma, lots of people have offered to help, why not just pass the info onto others and let them sort it, there are lots of SAHMs here who have a bit more time one their hands

sanTALClausiscomingtotown · 10/12/2009 10:41

A post christmas mn christmas does sound like a good idea!

Mamazontopofsantabeingrude · 10/12/2009 10:42

You are doing this as an act of incredible kindness, don't jeapordise your job in order to complete it.

Do what you can, pass on some of the pressure to others (delegation is the greatest tool of a good leader) and if some people get an extra surprise after crimbo then so be it.

they can't be disapointed by not recieving something they had no knowledge was on offer.

FabIsVeryFestive · 10/12/2009 10:46

Can I just appreciate your support for my post as I was worried it would come out wrong.

JackTheHallsWithBauersOfHolly · 10/12/2009 19:41

I am confused by all the worry TBH, surely Christmas doesn't end until 12th Night?

And what Fab said

should i have had an email by now?

VirginPeachyMotherOfSpod · 11/12/2009 19:44

As others said, Christmas is 12 days. It's an act of charity and kindness, and should be seen as such.

You're doing fine Norma, don't let self doubt ruin it for you.

NormaStanleyFletcher · 11/12/2009 22:27

OK - fall out of mamoth document is done

It is difficult to pass anything on as I have promised anonimity and stuff to loads of people who have said that they don't want to be outed.

I have to admit that last night I took a night off. I went to my works christmas do and got indescribably legless (beer followed by wine followed by sambuka followed by tequilla ). It was huge fun. I had fantastic bantering arguments with people, but the best part, apparently, is when one of my colleagues started calling me Love, and it didn't go down well ...

anyhoo - while I was out DH was doing matching, and the rest is nearly finished. TOmorrow night should see it all done

andirobobo · 11/12/2009 22:38

Well done DH of Fletch....we hope! Is he of the reliable sort and understands the importance of the whole matching scenario or a joker??!!

Only joking - you have done a stirling job - great to volunteer and will be sooo worth it in the end.

magnolia74 · 11/12/2009 23:00

Norma......you are truly incredible for doing this
Huge admiration from me xxx
