Think this has just been released this morning. I have no idea who James Norton is but it’s an alright watch!

I liked it, and I’m so bored of all the same things each year, with Kevin the carrot and the bfg. They usually do a few iirc so they may still have dawn french in one still but it’s probably the best one I’ve seen so far.

I would agree. They’ve done a good job this year.

I don't really like it tbh! James Norton is gorgeous but it's all so middle class Christmas, usually the big shops adverts were to disguise the fact they're trying to sell things and it's all very in your face this year with this and the John Lewis one.

The Bear and the Hare was the pinnacle of Christmas ad TV for me.

It’s certainly a million times better than this year’s John Lewis one.

We are all so different. I hated the bear and the hare advert. My favourite was years ago with the young boy desperate to give his parents their gift. Or the boxer on the trampoline!

Can’t argue with hot, as they say.

How can you not know who James Norton is? (Misses point)

Lovely and full I guess of M&S products, is this the general M&S advert or the ' food ' one.
Maybe DF will be in/on a purely food one, if they do one this year.

I agree it’s far too nakedly product-centred. Also, the slightly camp ‘You two look great! Love the earrings!’ bit reminds me of Rupert Everett at the wedding rehearsal in My Best Friend’s Wedding.

I didn't hate it but stopping a lost stranger and just inviting them in would never happen, even if they did look like James Norton.

I’m afraid Dawn French has become rather a figure of derision and controversy since she started posting her SM video shorts. They have been much criticised and parodied. Such a shame to see. She actually didn’t seem well tbh after her driving ban episode recently.

Perhaps M&S is choosing to avoid any difficulties in that area?

But that is the whole point - to sell M&S

I've seen some things on the advert that I actually want to buy- which is so much better than the JL where I can't see what they are selling.

M&S is middle class- I am fed up with this narrative that we have to apologise for that.

Sure, that’s what advertising is for, but most Christmas ads are much more subtle about product references eg past JL ads like the lonely penguin, the trampolining dog, the little boy dying to give his present etc.

Gosh, I know nothing about any celebrity but I do know who James Norton is and my life is the richer because of it!
He was in Happy Valley, Grantchester and lots of other things. Amazing actor. Very handsome. And has a degree in Theology from Cambridge if memory serves…

I’ve never liked Dawn French so I’m pleased. She’s not funny with her repetitive fat jokes, at her own expense but so facile. She should stick to acting if she must appear on my telly

If you want to see a lovely ad, look for the Sam Clegg he makes one each year to support charities and wrote the music himself

The dinner party reminded of a former neighbour. She would put on a fabulous spread and it really was open door/all welcome. Never enough seats or plates but always plenty of food. And sherry.

I like that underlying goodwill to all theme.

(Although if Amanda has been going to M&S for years, how did he not recognise a pig in blanket?! Or was he out on deliveries and she and her friends ate all the goodies before he got back? 😁)
