Think this has just been released this morning. I have no idea who James Norton is but it’s an alright watch!

Love it, of course I'd invite James Norton in & never let him go 😆

Sure, that’s what advertising is for, but most Christmas ads are much more subtle about product references eg past JL ads like the lonely penguin, the trampolining dog, the little boy dying to give his present etc.

But they need to convert into sales- especially now in a tough financial climate.

There is no point spending millions making lovely adverts if it doesn't translate into sales.

He does make me have bad thoughts.

I would so love him to be Bond.

I just watched all the Aldi ones from over the years. Oh my God, the difference in prices!! 🫣

PetrichorPam · Yesterday 08:32

Oh thank you! That’s made my morning. Love it!

But that is the whole point - to sell M&S

I've seen some things on the advert that I actually want to buy- which is so much better than the JL where I can't see what they are selling.

M&S is middle class- I am fed up with this narrative that we have to apologise for that.

Eh? I don't see what is middle class about M&S. It is just a shop that sells food, and clothes! Overpriced, for what it is, imo.

I love it. Thanks for link. Gorgeous x

macaroon8 · Yesterday 08:38

Liked it. Much better than the John Lewis one which is just so entitled. At least this one is about sharing and community.

macaroon8 · Yesterday 08:39

James Norton is pretty controversial.

Yiayoula · Yesterday 08:44

Well, that brightened up my Friday morning!
Not the best M&S one ever, but streets ahead of flipping Kevin the Carrot.

We are all so different. I hated the bear and the hare advert. My favourite was years ago with the young boy desperate to give his parents their gift. Or the boxer on the trampoline!

Edited

Oh yeah I forgot about the boy and the gift one! That's a brilliant one with a lovely message behind it, whilst still being about buying gifts to satisfy the shops target. This one just seemed so much on appearances and nothing deep about Santa discovering how everyone celebrates Christmas, just one affluent way to see in the season in some lovely London terraces.

WoolHatEnthusiast · Yesterday 08:46

Fantastic Christmas advert, this and the Argos advert are brilliant this year.

Caramac045 · Yesterday 08:59

I’ve not seen any Christmas adverts yet. Probably quite pleased as it’s a bit early, (although I have made several gift purchases).
I look forward to seeing James Norton. Just lovely.
I find Kevin the Carrot quite unappealing.
I must live under a rock, I am completely unaware of anything about Dawn French. Off to google.

What's wrong with middle class Christmas again?

I like this ad, though not a tear jerker it's light and fun.

Exactly, why shouldn't they market to their demographic? Being honest, that's not people buying their xmas dinner in Farmfoods for 3.18 a head is it. Not everything is for everybody.

JuliaBraverman · Yesterday 09:04

Love it… thank God no Dawn!

But do we know that the trampolining dog or the boy dying to give his present translated into fewer sales?

thisismeithinkorisit · Yesterday 09:08

he's a phenomenal actor on stage, if you ever get to see a showing of A Little Life with him in it, pack hard liquor and a big box of tissues.

I'm not so keen on Mrs Claus.
I liked the advert tho, it's very sweet but I'd have liked to see him with kids given he's Santa. snow ball fight and snow men etc.

I think there's a very cynical reason why they haven't included kids or a family.

Best advert so far by miles.

But theres no rules about what Christmas ads should do . And the retail arbiter is struggling more this year than in previous years so I dont blame them for marketing their good more heavily.

I mean lets face it the JL advert is dire.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · Yesterday 09:13

James Norton is such a good actor. Watch happy valley!

Sidebeforeself · Yesterday 09:13

Sector not arbiter!

I didn't hate it but stopping a lost stranger and just inviting them in would never happen, even if they did look like James Norton.

You do know Santa isnt real dont you?😀

BeeDavis · Yesterday 09:17

Once I saw him topless, I feel like I just floated through the rest of the ad 😂😂

teaandtoastwithmarmite · Yesterday 09:17

I love this advert!
