Hate it. Makes it feel like only those with huge resources and massive houses can give the (ridiculously brattily presented) grandchildren what they want. Why does granny think a 7 and 9 year old would be interested in a toddler toy push along dog? Why can’t she communicate with them? Sit down and play some drawing games with them? Who has the space to turn an entire otherwise unused room into a disco?

And no one should ever been encouraged to use those awful autoricks in London. They are a total tourist rip off, massively over-prices, contributors to the worse kind of noise pollution and generally very dodgy.

Lovely, just so lovely 💓💓💓

Kristin Scott Thomas is so amazing and so many mumsnetty things in it.

Terrible behaviour from the children and grandchildren, but Kristen Scott Thomas looks gorgeous 😀What about Father Christmas though?

ExtraOnions · Today 07:21

JL had a run of great adverts … I have no idea if they have changed agency or something, but they have been off the boil for a couple of years.

The Jouney, The long wait, Monty the Penguin, I even loved the Boy and The Piano.

post lock-down it’s all got a bit performative / issue led. (And the music isn’t as good)

A671090 · Today 07:21

What? First desk has got grand children?

countrylifeorcitylife · Today 07:26

Oh I think it’s lovely!!!

AndAllOurYesterdays · Today 07:27

I didn't like that at all. The worst thing about it is the pink autorick ride- my kids are always asking to go on one and I say every time that they are expensive and dangerous and now JL are presenting them as 'fun'!

AndAllOurYesterdays · Today 07:28

My favourite ever was the one with the dragon who kept setting things on fire

Moonfrothy · Today 07:31

An advert that encourages and normalises bad manners, disrespect and ineffective parenting - yes John Lewis that's exactly what the nation needs for Christmas! The wallys.

It's so obviously awful. Maybe the younger generation think this behaviour is normal and all okay so just don't see it - that's even sadder.

AlmostAutumn26 · Today 07:39

I don't like this one ... disappointing as I love waiting to see the JL advert.

Grand parents shouldn’t have toys. They parents should bring some thing for the kids to do. Especially at the age the kids are in the advert.

Having 1 locked room to keep kids free is also perfectly reasonable. And the mum just shrugging saying they need something to do is infuriating.

It would have been much better if when mum said they need something she goes out and buys stuff to do some baking, craft sets, board games, even her playing Mario kart. Using JL to facilitate experiences with her grandkids.

Missed the mark for me.

Improved after Gramdma left those shitty badly behaved kids behind and went on a shopping trip. Ending would be much improved if it was Grandma surrounded by lovely things she had bought herself from John Lewis, with the kids locked outside in the cold.

Yes much better idea !

Matingincaptivity · Today 07:51

I didnt mind it but found the music intensely annoying

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · Today 07:54

That was disappointing. Once upon a time John Lewis adverts were good ! That was just awful.

acergarnet · Today 07:54

Horrible advert, horrible kids and I really wish KST had opened the door to Jackson Lamb rather than her awful family.

My favourite has always been the dog on the trampoline, that was a great ad.

Stifledlife · Today 07:58

I didn't like it. Fabulous cast. Beautifully filmed. Terrible sentiment. Spoiled little sh1ts and a kind, lovely woman turning herself inside out to please them. Sod that.

ManhattanMime · Today 08:00

Those kids were so rude when they saw Pickles. Mine are older now but they would have jumped on Pickles and shown some excitement, partly from gratitude but they would have quite liked him too! Didn’t like the spoilt children at all.

And there was not enough ‘John Lewis’ in the ad. Alan Sugar would not have approved of that ad if his apprentices created it!

A nice idea but a missed opportunity I think to make it fab.

I think the kids are awful, it’s a no from me

I agree. It's one of the worst adverts I've seen. Awful.

Allschoolsareartschools · Today 08:02

There will never be any JL ad better than Monty the Penguin for me😍
Not impressed at all with this, utter brats, pathetic parents & what's the message? Spend more money to create so called 'magic'. Not for me I'm afraid but I'm fed up with the whole Christmas ads thing anyway!

ManhattanMime · Today 08:02

My fave was the 2011 one, The Long Wait ❤

Same. It makes me cry every time! Loved it.

BetterAttitudeNeeded · Today 08:05

So disappointing in so many ways. Huge house, I love Kristen Scott Thomas but grandmotherly vibes she does not give. Spoilt children and entitled parents, a tuc tuc which is just awful and no Father Christmas it just felt sad and like they'd missed the whole point.

Bet Fisher Price are happy . My adult children had that dog . Not the best JL advert .

Yes, I'm in my 50s, and I (well, it ws my sister's) had the dog. I remember how the wheels clacked and the paper peeled off.

She broke it because she put it in a paddling pool to see if could swim (sadly, it could not).
I think it was called Snoopy.

As for the advert, I I like KST, but I hate the song- so that would make me switch off anyway. I get the nostalgia element- but that's 2 years running now, time for a change. And maybe an actual Christmas song. That would be different. (for JL).
