Please cheer me up with all the wonderful things to look forward to in Autumn.
I have had enough of heatwave after heatwave. Especially as a dog owner. Ive just stuck on Gilmore Girls as a means of escape!

So please join me here if you can't wait for Autumn and share any of your Autumn joys!

Put it in the Christmas section in the hope of finding my kinda people! I

I love autumn!

I love everything about it - the chill, crunchy leaves, the colours, dark evenings, candles, proper clothing - I definitely have a better wardrobe in autumn, I never feel "dressed" in summer. It's all floaty dresses or loose tops and sandals or canvas shoes. Gimme trousers, a jumper and a good pair of boots! Oh, and a scarf!

I've started buying some decorations and themed books. I'm all set!

The heat is killing me. I can't wait to not be sweaty all the bloody time.

See i adore Autumn, but nowadays dread the cooler months as heating my home is so dear and i struggle to afford it. How do you not mind abut this/deal with this, or is money no object?

I bought a heated throw off Amazon! It’s a wonderful thing! I have an electric blanket and a German Shepherd on my bed, so am always warm in bed, and the throw is so lovely to read and watch tv under, I don’t need the heating on.
Theres something very snuggly about the throw, very Autumnal! I think it was around £22? Worth every penny!

I’m an autumn lover! Always loved September. Used to adore going back to school as a kid.

Had a little baby DS in March and have endured the summer. I can’t wait to dress him in jumpers and already have some pumpkin themed outfits for him. He’ll be six months in Sept and when I’ve had harder days particularly with feeding the thought of autumn and weaning him on some nice autumn veggies has kept me going.

I’ve had a bit of post partum anxiety and the heat has one hundred percent contributed to that, the hotter it gets the more tense I feel so I’m really looking forward to sticking coat on, breathing some fresher air and feeling the leaves crunch beneath us on our walks with little boy.

Get me to the pumpkin patch with a spiced latte. I am genuinely ticking August off the calendar day by day.

hotmumshit · 12/08/2026 22:17

Its also when dd goes back to school! Shes been off since april and I am READY!

humptydumptyfelloff · 12/08/2026 22:18

I’m so looking forward to autumn now.
i feel ready for it after this long very hot dry spell

cant wait to have warm socks on my feet again with fluffy slippers or Uggs, big chunky jumpers and leggins, scarves,
snuggling down with the curtains closed all warm inside watching autumn tv which is my favourite time for tv as lots of new things are added

roast dinners yippee

I am not a fan of cooking and the summers are even harder however I love a slow cooker chilli or bolognaise ,a good old roast on a Sunday,a decent home made lasagne and good old hot chocolate

veryautumnal · 13/08/2026 11:11

As the name may suggest, I think I have found my people… I’m counting down the minutes to those first days of Autumn when the leaves are golden and crunchy, the air begins to cool, and no outfit is complete without a cosy scarf or a hot chocolate in hand.

If anyone has some photos from Autumns gone by I’d love to see them! I have a full Pinterest board of beautiful autumn trees, conkers and everything in between.

LivingForRedWine · 13/08/2026 14:13

I feel exactly the same. I have always loved autumn more than any other season and this year we have just moved into a new house with a log burner. I can not wait to get all snuggled up in front of it with a good book with candles lit all around me while its dark and cold outside.

hotmumshit · 13/08/2026 15:14

Trying to arrange an autumn door surround, along with a wreath 😍

Bobbieiris · 13/08/2026 17:15

Loving this thread as enduring the heat 🥵 love the idea of seasonal film and TV ideas. I really feel I've watching the good witch sp might watch some of that tonight. It's a bit cringe I know but an easy watch.
Absolutely love the 1990s little women for winter time! 😊
Been reading 'the other side of Mrs wood' about a victoriana spiritualist which is very autumnal.
Been tempted to go through my daughters winter clothes but think it might be a bit to early!

birdysong · 13/08/2026 17:19

Today's weather has been dreadful! 36 degrees and so limiting with a dog.

I bought some autumnal themed tops and jumpers today - may have a look in the autumn box in the garage to see what's in there!

I have occasionally had glorious Autumnal scenes as my wallpaper on the IPad. There are some stunning ones out there!
I just googled “scenes of Autumn” and found loads🍂🍁

RowsOfFlowers · 13/08/2026 18:36

I want to be in leggings, Uggs and snuggly jumpers!
instead I’m sweating my butt off at home in pj shorts in front of a fan. Also roll on hot chocolate weather 💕🫶🏻

Sasha07 · 13/08/2026 21:43

Ok, hear me out, it's set late summer, not Autumn... But...
I'm watching Labor Day on Netflix. First time I've came across it. Most scenes have a lovely golden glow, they make peach... Pie? Peach cobblers? Something with a crust anyway. We see it browning in the oven! (Home baking always makes me think of Autumn!)

There's nothing specifically Autumn but it has the vibes. Brown wooden furniture, soft brown/golden lighting, very easy to watch and get into, if you're bored and looking for something to watch.

Very basic storyline: Kate Winslet is depressed after becoming a single parent, her ex has moved on to a new family (they're not part of it.) An escaped, convicted murderer becomes part of the story. I think it's kind of an unsettling feel good movie, maybe not the right term but...? Not sure yet, might have twists and turns. I'm only 30 mins in, it didn't seem like something that I'd usually watch but seems good so far.

Purplebunnie · 13/08/2026 22:06

Gilmore Girls has quite a few episodes where the town is dressed for autumn/Halloween. I gave it a miss last year but my re-visit this year

RowsOfFlowers · 14/08/2026 07:37

I don’t get the obsession with Gilmore Girls for some reason, it must just be me but I find it a bit bland and don’t see the hype 🙈

QuokkaCutie · 14/08/2026 09:45

regarding Autumnal tv, how about the “ Motherland” Halloween episode?
Lee Mead looking like a sweet little gnome😄

Ooh yes that's a good idea. A bit like the crackling fire in the background on Netflix.

I'm enjoying this book currently and have collected all the seasons. I am foraging like crazy and have a freezer full of blackberries not to mention tonnes of last year's sloes. I also take an empty bread bag to the woods with me every day and fill it full of pine cones for decor and for putting on the fire (don't use fire lighters) I have also just made my second pan of chilli jam with our glut of tomatoes. That's 10 jars to see us rhrough the year. I'll likely made another half dozen before summer is over, as they get given as Christmas gifts (these are expected by friends and family now as I have been doing it for 25 years) Cobnuts and apples to use up today, so thinking of kentish connut cake with Spiced apple compote (very autumnal) Finally, I'll be taking paper bags to the woods to fill with dry twigs to use as kindling.

Ooh, you’ve taken me right back to my childhood, with the mention of cobnuts and foraging for berries! You must live in a fabulous area , like I used to? I’m by the sea now which is nice but you don’t get the ‘green’ of the countryside, or such an obvious change in seasons with all its offerings. We used to get a glut of damsons - but only every other year and my Ddad used to share them amongst the older ladies of the area. We in turn, used to get carrier bags of new potatoes, tomatoes, apples etc tied to our door handles as neighbours shared their home produce.
A lifetime ago, it seems…

And you write beautifully!🍁

I love the descriptions from Tolkien of autumn in Middle Earth - a time of fading golden light, chill winds from the mountains, and a deep, bittersweet transition toward winter.

"So the days slipped away, as each morning dawned bright and fair, and each evening followed cool and clear. But autumn was waning fast; slowly the golden light faded to pale silver, and the lingering leaves fell from the naked trees. A wind began to blow chill from the Misty Mountains to the east. The Hunter's Moon waxed round in the night sky, and put to flight all the lesser stars."

Aldi had super cute pumpkin candles in store yesterday, and I've done 2 blackberrying outings with the DC.

It's 17°C overnight, but Saturday to Sunday night will be 12°C (quivers with excitement!)
