Supermarket run on Monday - what isn't on my list yet?

drspouse · 18/12/2025 19:49

Planning to dash to Lidl followed by Booths fairly early Monday. My list is very short so I'm sure I've forgotten something!
It's just us 4, with maybe 4 or 5 neighbours coming over on Tues afternoon. Turkey is coming from the butcher on Tues and a veg box on Weds.
So far I have
A few oven bits for Tues afternoon
Puff pastry (for a Christmas tree tear and share - already have mincemeat)
Fake Bailey's
Cheese
Stuffing
Pigs in blankets
Crisps
Fancy gravy
Fancy custard.

Already have a gingerbread house kit for after Christmas, brandy butter, Christmas pudding.

Such a good idea for a thread ,

cleo333 · 18/12/2025 19:53

Cream ?

Gowlett · 18/12/2025 19:53

Nuts?
Whipped Cream?

drspouse · 18/12/2025 19:56

I have nuts, but could get some more. I will have brandy butter on my pudding and everyone else will have custard but actually I did want cream for a possible Yule log.

What do you do for breakfast on Boxing Day. I have stuff for a cooked breakfast on my list as that’s what we have

We will just have normal breakfast but pastries for Christmas day need to go on the list! I'll see if I can get frozen ones.

Have you got enough tin foil, baking parchment, washing up liquid and cooking salt?

cranberry sauce?

Egglio · 18/12/2025 20:01

titchy · 18/12/2025 19:58

More cheese.

Ah you got there first! Never enough cheese!

drspouse · 18/12/2025 20:02

I have an embarrassingly large number of jars of cranberry sauce I keep forgetting I bought, and I just opened new rolls of both those.
But thinking of foil reminds me I forgot streaky bacon.

I have to get some Greek yoghurt as it’s what the family prefers to have with Xmas pudding. Possibly a bit niche!

Chocolate Yule Log & Baileys Cream.
So sorry if you don’t have it in the UK!

drspouse · 18/12/2025 20:05

Is that an actual flavour?

Craftysue · 18/12/2025 20:06

Any gifts need batteries?

drspouse · 18/12/2025 20:08

I think only one for DS birthday (early Jan) so I'm putting that off till the following week.

Whowahway123 · 18/12/2025 20:15

Turkish delight / chocolate Brazil nuts

lifeonmars100 · 18/12/2025 20:19

bread and milk, I tend to overlook the day to day stuff

Fbfbfvfvv · 18/12/2025 20:22

Soft drinks

And what are you having for breakfast?

Mudflaps · 18/12/2025 20:23

Don't bother with 'fake baileys', get some Coole Swan, its far superior. I used to drink Baileys occasionally until I tasted Coole Swan almost 18 years ago and I haven't bought Baileys since. First tasted it at Dublin Airport duty free where samples were being handed out, I enjoyed it so much I bought two bottles to take on honeymoon!! Ended up giving one bottle to hotel housekeeping in Vegas because she was so interested and curious about Ireland, she came back to tell us she had a glass with her husband and loved it.

Good call!
@Mudflaps I'll look out for that!
Soft drinks - good call - DD will like some elderflower and maybe J2O for both kids.
Breakfast as above - normal food or pastries.

Yes to Coole Swan! It’s delicious!

Chocolate Yule Log isn’t a Baileys flavour.
Not mad about the flavoured ones TBH…

I mean a tub of Baileys Whipped Cream.

drspouse · 18/12/2025 20:38

I've just looked up Coole Swan and you can only get it in Tesco Extra - boo. We don't have one within about 30 miles (we are next to a body of water and it always says "nearest shop X" which is 50 miles by road).
