Supermarket run on Monday - what isn't on my list yet?

Planning to dash to Lidl followed by Booths fairly early Monday. My list is very short so I'm sure I've forgotten something!
It's just us 4, with maybe 4 or 5 neighbours coming over on Tues afternoon. Turkey is coming from the butcher on Tues and a veg box on Weds.
So far I have
A few oven bits for Tues afternoon
Puff pastry (for a Christmas tree tear and share - already have mincemeat)
Fake Bailey's
Cheese
Stuffing
Pigs in blankets
Crisps
Fancy gravy
Fancy custard.

Already have a gingerbread house kit for after Christmas, brandy butter, Christmas pudding.

I've just looked up Coole Swan and you can only get it in Tesco Extra - boo. We don't have one within about 30 miles (we are next to a body of water and it always says "nearest shop X" which is 50 miles by road).

They have it on amazon

Lemsip - my lot are going down like flies.

Have you got enough tin foil, baking parchment, washing up liquid and cooking salt?

cranberry sauce?

So glad you posted this! Completely forgot tin foil on my shopping list and I used the last if mine at the weekend! Thank you, you have just saved my Christmas Turkey!

Cream ?

Ice cream, a couple of years ago I took a pudding course to daughter's house and forgot to get the ice cream out of the freezer, a drive round saw me paying about £7 for a tub the size of Ben and Jerry. It would probably have been faster and cheaper to run home to get it!
Things I've needed last minute, foil, cling film, hash browns for breakfast and of course Alka Seltzer or similar.

I don’t bother with the constraints of a list. I prefer to just get to the shops, immediately panic and start frantically throwing huge quantities of absolutely everything into the trolley, “just in case”. I’ll also try to ensure that all 2 litres of double cream I buy will go off before NYE just to make sure that I have to throw it out.

Goose fat for the best roast potatoes.

MandySometimes · 19/12/2025 22:29

Stollen. As long as you have butter you don't really need anything else 😊

MarxistMags · 19/12/2025 22:31

Tin foil ? Have you plenty ?

Crunched · 19/12/2025 22:39

Orange juice for a breakfast mimosa and peach schnapps as an alternative?

A nice chutney for boxing day leftover
Pickled onions. Some nice cordial for non drinkers

Perhaps writing a daily menu plan will help jog the memory?

I’ve just got to buy fruit for a pavlova (southern hemisphere resident). Picked up extra packets of jelly flavours the other day and a big bottle of cream (we whip it with a bit of icing sugar to sweeten). I do fruit jelly cups with leftover small fruit from the pav decorating.

apart from those, if there’s any decent specials on, I will top up on Monday and avoid the town where I shop after that…

Mylittlelove · 20/12/2025 00:43

A biscuit selection box and a box of heroes , Ferrero rocher etc.
cream crackers

patooties · 20/12/2025 01:45

We never have enough ice, lemon, limes.
DH always has to go out on Xmas eve for cream / butter / oils / foil/ ice cream / lemonade.

BrendaSmall · 20/12/2025 06:35

Mince pies & clotted cream

we went to Lidl yesterday to do our shopping and they didn’t have any of the cheap veg in and all the small oranges were rotten!
So now I have to try to go one night after work which is a nightmare as working for the next 4 days!

ClaredeBear · 18/12/2025 20:03

I have to get some Greek yoghurt as it’s what the family prefers to have with Xmas pudding. Possibly a bit niche!

We have this too but never considered it niche.
Pulling Crackers and more fizz.

AgeingGreycefully · 20/12/2025 07:56

Lots of coleslaw and chutneys to go with all the leftovers! I have frozen pastries in for breakfast too with fresh berries and Buck’s Fizz!

In Ireland you can buy whipped cream which has Baileys in it. I think it’s only available at Christmas time. It’s delicious though!

Aldi have it too

Willyoujust · 20/12/2025 10:32

Following!

SleafordSods · 20/12/2025 10:52

I’ve forgotten the Mayo! Luckily there seems to be plenty of shopping days to go Smile

Judecb · 20/12/2025 10:55

Canapés/nibbles for guests plus vegetarian options? Good luck. It sounds like you're covered.

DeanElderberry · 20/12/2025 11:23

I walked round not with a shopping list but a list of what I hope to eat each day until January 1st, and the things I had forgotten but now have are: Batteries; horseradish sauce (to go with smoked fish); readymade custard for lazy trifle.

I was already intending to get salad stuff and clementines.

Mostly sorted now, (I hope).
