I haven’t seen one of these thread yet this year and with lots of “help need ideas for…” type posts thought might be useful, plus I’m nosy and love hearing what everyone has bought their DC

(misers, moaners and the “DC should only gets a resource book, pair of socks and a satsuma” brigade need not comment.)

Three teenage girls 14, 17 & 18 was in my element shopping for them this year if I’m honest.

I have never heard of stocking and sacks together - I thought it was one or the other. Also never heard of table presents.

I'm really excited to give DC4 their presents this year! They are really in to it this year! Also managed to get most of it on offer/Vinted/Facebook marketplace/free which felt satisfying. Love a bargain hunt.

Under the tree from us and GPs they have -
Barbie Malibu house
Barbie dream pool
Barbie
PJs
Our Generation doll and clothes
Our Generation school set
Board game
Colouring book
Bike helmet
Duvet cover
Small Lego set
Lite Brite.

The stocking is ridiculously full because GPs have gone mad collecting tat over the year! But my own contributions are

Socks
Satsuma
£1
Bluey bath bubbles
Pens
Notepad
Mini pot of jam
Dinosaur egg
Stickers
Chelsea doll.

OP you can get snarky but those lists are insane. I can't imagine ever giving my kids so much stuff in one go. You must be able to see that your post is quite insensitive. There are thousands of posters on Mumsnet struggling to find the cash for one main present. There was really no need to share those lists.

Yeah, definately just wanted to tell everyone how much disposable income she has 😂

Wambamaloomaawambamboo · 18/12/2025 12:01

MiddleAgedDread · 18/12/2025 06:50

Surely that’s a bed present??

They were taking the mick.........

seekinghoneymoon · 18/12/2025 12:02

I really like the idea of a table present, I'd never heard of it but might start implementing it. We used to have a "one last present" as kids but we never knew when it was going to be given which I found annoying, so table present is perfect!

You say you do both stockings and sacks - are these given at separate times? Or is the sack just there because not everything fits in the stockings? Our stockings were always the size of a pillowcase, hence the confusion!

Katypp · 18/12/2025 12:03

Didshejustsaythatoutloud · 18/12/2025 11:57

Yeah, definately just wanted to tell everyone how much disposable income she has 😂

But this type of thread runs every year. Is there some reason why it should not run this year?
Maybe the frugaleers would like to start a thread on their pared-back Christmas of second-hand books, satsumas and one item of Vinted clothing which will leave their children overwhelmed. I'm sure there will be plenty of takers.

heroofalexandria · 18/12/2025 12:08

It’s DD’s first Christmas she’s 1 in January. Been a bit concerned about going overboard because know she’ll get more in literally 3 weeks but fear grandparents may have scuppered this.

from us she has:

Wooden pram and soft baby from Little Dutch
Some stacking ice creams
2 ‘that’s not my’ books
Set of maracas

and then a stocking including some wooden vehicles (Aldi!) another smaller soft dolly, a new swimming costume, slippers and a bag of satsumas (her one true love 🥰)

grandparents various have bought the happy land play farm, a balance bike, a tonie box and a little tikes cosy coupe because they got all excited 🤣 think some of those will be joint Christmas and birthday though.

housethatbuiltme · 18/12/2025 12:13

ilovepixie · 18/12/2025 06:41

A stocking and a sack?

We do both.

A stocking is simply tradition and is a nod to St. Nick who was a real saint and completely different to Santa Claus.

A Sack is the presents from Santa Claus.

I don't think its necessary to do both or either but they are completely different things from different origins and cultures.

PairOfPennies · 18/12/2025 12:30

We do stocking and one small gift from Father Christmas. The sack/ any ‘maim’ present was always from us. We chose to do it this way after hearing my nephew ( who’s much older than my dc) ask why Santa had given him a bike and a classmate only got something small.

I’ve never heard of many traditions that diffferent people do. I guess everyone’s Christmas is personal to them.

SnowyVillage · 18/12/2025 12:30

Katypp · 18/12/2025 12:33

I did forget one type - the newly-evangelical shunning the commercialism of Christmas posters, usually identified by over-use of the word 'tat' with bonus points for 'straight to landfill'

A judgy comment and nothing to add of relevance to the post?

I’m asking a question. Why a stocking and a sack? They are both basically the same thing. No need to be so arsey.

Even the best riders need a lesson occasionally.

Its not an alienware or legion one! It's a HP one I got in the black Friday sale that has a gaming spec. I'd been watching it for a while so bought it as soon as the price dropped!

I’m asking a question. Why a stocking and a sack? They are both basically the same thing. No need to be so arsey.

For my DD the stockings are a mix of small presents from us and Santa, the Santa sack is for presents just from Santa which are normally on the list she writes to him. I've always told her Santa doesn't make tech so she asks him for things like Slime, Jellycats, toys, pj's etc
