I haven’t seen one of these thread yet this year and with lots of “help need ideas for…” type posts thought might be useful, plus I’m nosy and love hearing what everyone has bought their DC

(misers, moaners and the “DC should only gets a resource book, pair of socks and a satsuma” brigade need not comment.)

Three teenage girls 14, 17 & 18 was in my element shopping for them this year if I’m honest.

Phew all done, looking at this I think there is a gap in my youngest DD’s sack (like to keep things equal) so I’d love to read what you have all got your DC.

Well I went completely overboard this Christmas... DD is nearly 2. In our house we do something you want, something you need, something to wear, something to read, something to do and something to share....but I epically fudge it (the categories are more to keep me focused !) . She doesn't have family apart from me and her grandad so this is everything she will get. I will definitely do less next year (I fear I shall say this every year)!

Stocking
Small paddington teddy
Toothbrush & strawberry flavour toothpaste
Sand timer (for teeth brushing)
Her first pack of hairbands
Go find it Scavenger hunt cards
Tiger who came to tea Book mark
Expandable flannel for the bath
Kikkerland Kaleidoscope
Satsuma
Letter from santa

Presents
Santa- 5ft parachute, teddy bear (one of my childhood ones passed down)

Want - gruffalo floor puzzle, orchard toys word game
Need - early reader books (50 book box set), phonics cards (she loves cards!)
Wear - ballet outfit, ballet shoes & small maileg mouse in ballet outfit
Read - Angelina ballerina box set (continuing the theme 🥴) and story orchestra book
Do- Connectix
Share - tic tac toe, lotto game

Her grandad has also got her some books
Godparents - colouring book, sticker book, crayons, fairy wings, a couple of books and a dress

I managed to get quite a lot second hand or massively reduced. I know it's all things she will love and use. Saving outdoor toys for spring/summer for her birthday in march

Honestly, I read the presents for teen girls and have no idea what they are! 🤦

Your girls are very lucky. You have bought them lots. As long as gifts are used and appreciated then it's all good imo

SpiritOfEcstasy · 18/12/2025 23:24

DD15 -

I'm being boring and giving my kids and their spouses money for Christmas. My grandsons are both aged 2. Originally both families were planning to be with us for Christmas so I wanted to get them same presents to limit upset and wanting to play with each other's gifts. We did the same last year and it worked really well. Now it's just one family so I'm going to have to find a courier after Christmas to take the parcel for the others!

Speed Track - the medium set with cars
An engine that you can take apart and build, makes noises and has flashing lights.

A monster hand puppet
A wrist torch
A little rechargeable mouse
A 3D printed dragon

And, as a present for our house - a tent in the shape of a castle.

Amore03 · 19/12/2025 00:05

Everyone is different and have their own limits when spending at Christmas.

My sons are 22 and 26 . I ask them what they want for Christmas early because they never know so it takes me 3 weeks to finally get ideas .

My eldest has a bike so I gave him a substantial amount to buy things. I also got him tracksuits and trainers .

My youngest , he likes clothes so he had a jacket , tracksuits , 2 new Tom ford aftershaves ( only 30ml) so he can decide which one he likes . A few t-shirts . I buy my son’s designer clothes, and Nike & Adidas. I also got little extras .

My sons don’t ask for anything and do ask me to stop .

They never ask me for anything in the year either so I do like to spoil them at birthdays and Christmas.

FrightfulNightfull · 19/12/2025 00:06

@Seawolves
I feel like we have similar lives! I hope your little boy loves his gift (my DD will probably ignore the ones I got her / being 8 and having her way she’s unlikely to engage but I hope). I have no idea what it’s like to be able to successfully buy items for my child - never mind so many - and I can’t even start as to why Christmas is sad for so many people for so many reasons.
OP - look people don’t like the show ponies or whatever for Christmas for multiple different reasons. But it’s a free world and you’ve clearly got the resources and care for your children to indulge anything they could want. This is mostly a good thing.

Oh I am enjoying this thread. It's like a klaxon to all the MN types who just love to opine on this type of thread.
We've had the out-braggers, the ones offended on behalf of others ('some people are struggling' - note 'some' not me obviously but I will show off my virtue credentials by worrying about Them), the ones shocked at spending anything above £10, the ones showing off about their humble Christmases, the ones keen to share how little their children expect, the wide-eyed who just 'don't understand' how you can spend that much...
Have I forgotten anyone?

The ones listing what they got for their kids at OPs request and as they do realising they have indeed bought more than they planned/budgeted and trying to justify it by saying stuff like "the kids needed it/will appreciate it etc" while making a promise to themselves to not go overboard next year (but of course will). Just me?

The lady who bought her husband a coat also deserves her own category

Redragtoabull · 19/12/2025 00:55

I’m just reflecting on a few years when my SIL bought obscene amounts of presents for her two boys. Earlier that year she had found out her husband had been having a long standing affair and she was compensating and in competition with her X. We all just looked at the great mound of presents on Xmas day aghast. Unfortunately it seemed to set the trend for them expecting her to fund them financially and they went into adulthood and she ended up selling her house, moving into a box in a crummy part of town and handing over her cash to them.

PenguinLover24 · 19/12/2025 06:24

Something that wasn't done in my family was the stocking. We had one but we just hung them up and I've done the same this year with my DD who is two in early next year, maybe I should start a new tradition by filling them 🤔😂 I love the table present idea! When I read yours I just think "wow so much self care stuff I still to this day don't use anything and just use a basic moisturizer" 😂😂 I think if my DD likes all this stuff in the future I'll need some serious help 😂😂 my DD is loving all the lights this year and keeps saying Santa 😂 we have her:

a wooden kitchen with wooden food and an apron
LOTS of figures (she's obsessed lol) anything from teletubbies to Pokémon 😂
A sit on scooter than converts into a standing one
Etcha sketch type thing!
Lots of crafts stuff which she loves

I actually can't remember most of it as it's been wrapped since October 😂 will be a surprise for us just as much 😂

Us adults it's mostly edible presents 😂😂 but also a 1% club quiz book!

Bollocks.

It takes more than one day a year of spoiling them to create that level of entitlement.

I fully indulge mine at Christmas, my list would be on par with the OP's, more some years. Yet my kids - two now adults - are both kind and generous yet very sensible with their money. They save for the big things, work hard for what they want. They expect nothing but appreciate everything. That's because of how they were raised. That one day a year - okay two if you include birthdays - where they are given a mountain of gifts doesn't negate the other 363.

CharnwoodFire · 19/12/2025 06:44

Omg.
Like, my parents gave me only a duvet for Christmas one year, and that was a good present year...

Wanttobeok · 19/12/2025 07:02

I can't post DS 14 list as we get notifications from each other's Google accounts for some reason so he may see it, but it wouldn't help most people with a DS anyway as it contains a lot of Makeup and taylor swift merchandise 😅

Oh we don’t need riding lessons, we have our own horses…

You don't come across as awfully pleasant with these posts! We had horses as pets when I was a teen and my parents never saw it as anything to brag about. You come across as someone who just wants to make others feel inferior! People don't start posts like this because they don't want to kick people who haven't got the funds to give their kids much this Xmas!
People like you cause a lot of problems and upset for some families because kids like yours go to school and brag about getting thousands of pounds worth of branded crap and it makes other kids and parents feel like shit! All because mummy needs to feel posh and rich and above everybody else!
Why do they need an upgrade if their current phones are all working fine, it's a waste of money for phones that could get nicked, lost or broken when they go back to school etc after Christmas.
Im a traveller and a lot of my money goes on seeing the world with my partner and if we had kids I want them to have experiences in life, not a pile of branded crap that will go in draw somewhere.

Your kids are also at an age where they need to learn financial reality because when they leave home and get jobs, they won't be able to afford the luxury lifestyle you give them.

Clefable · 19/12/2025 07:38

This thread is frustrating as I keep coming back to read more lists as I love seeing what people have bought and instead it’s just a bunch of posts from miserable whingers. Thanks to those who are actually posting their lists!

Enjoy your world travels, what an exciting (and expensive) hobby to be able to tell MN about.
